Chapter 8: Judas and The Betrayal
Outside...
Hotaru was facing Kyo's back. The noise from the pub was killed by the awkward silence surrounding the two men. Kyo lit a cigarette trying to cool his head. He didn't know whether he should ask Hotaru to explain everything because he was just assuming that Hotaru was somehow involved with the burning incident. He remembered the note in the blue envelope. "The last supper"
"What were you trying to do to her in the kitchen Hotaru?"
"I was just helping her with the dishes"
"Hotaru... You tried to kill Yuya didn't you? You were the one who burned her building weren't you?" said Kyo grabbing Hotaru's collar, his face carved with fury.
Kyo was surprised at his own reaction and he wasn't sure what or why was he doing it or why was he feeling that way.
Hotaru looked straight into his crimson orb, "Kyo, you do not want to know."
Kyo let go of Hotaru's collar and walked away. He thought, perhaps, he needs to investigate on his own and of course, to ensure that that woman will not be harmed.
Hotaru went back to the bar and joined the rest of the Shiseiten. Everyone was wasted except Akira who calmly sipped his warm, sweet, mild sake. Yes, it has to be made clear in his mind that it contained very less alcohol because he was not a drinker.
"So, should I be asking you or are you going to tell me what's going on? And, where is Kyo?" said Akira, still sipping his warm, sweet and mild sake.
"He left," said Hotaru bluntly.
Akira, not giving up and trying to drill his way to get Hotaru to clarify the situation "Are you not going to tell me what's going on?"
"No," and he left.
Bontenmaru and Akari pretended to be so drunk but actually sober, looked at each other with puzzled face. The crowded and boisterous club turned silent for the three of them who comfortably parked themselves by the bar. Little that they know, the team of four was dangerously cracking up.
"Okaeri nasai," said Yuya as Kyo walked through the door of his luxurious loft.
Kyo, despite being an egotistical, hard-headed piece of work, felt his stomach fluttered a little when he heard the soft ring in her voice. He unconsciously and softly replied "Tadaima".
He missed Shima-bachan. It actually felt nice to have someone welcoming him home, so he thought.
"Why are you still awake?" he asked.
"Oh… my boss at the part-time job told me to take the night off, so I thought I should finish up my assignments. At least, try to…" said Yuya while writing on what seems to be a mountain of paper on the table.
Kyo walked towards her and leaned forward, his face literally next to hers; studying the textbooks she had spread on the table. Yuya felt her face burning. "Too near!" she thought. Her heart beating so fast, she suddenly stood up.
"Is… is there anything I can get you?" she quickly moved to the kitchen.
"No," said Kyo as he made his way to the stairs.
Yuya stood in front of the kitchen entrance, "Kyo.."
"What is it?" he said, halting his ascending movement.
"Ca- Can I-"
"Can you what?!" He exclaimed. "Shit!" His conscience muttered. He didn't mean to yell. Too many fucked up things tangled in his mind and he accidentally raised his voice. He was strangling himself in his head. Why is he always like that?
She took a deep breath and bravely uttered the words, "Can I use the laptop on the table as well as the printer? I need to type my assignments and print it out by Friday. I only have 3 days left to finish up my assignments" Hands shaking, and eyes shut, in her heart, she was hoping that Kyo would allow her to use the computer.
"Go to bed," he said continuing his steps up the stairs. He paused and stopped, "I don't really think a dogface with chicken brain needs a laptop to do anything." He smirked and strode up to his room.
"Ugh! You don't have to be so mean, you know! Just say no, it's fine!" Yuya stomped out of the kitchen entrance, up the stairs and went straight to her room. "Here I am, trying to be nice to him because we are, well, so-called, housemates. Wait, I'm wrong. I'm definitely wrong. I'm his "servant". Gosh! But somehow, just minutes ago, when he came in, I felt he was at least, if not little, was nice. And his presence next to me…." Yuya's heartbeat went all nuts like as if she jogged a hundred miles. She pressed her face against the pillow in hopes that the thought of how near Kyo's face was to hers will be gone as well as his oh-so-good scent of aftershave lingered and interfered with her common sense. She put the pillow down and later laid her head on the pillow, adjusting her body on the bed while wondering how and when can she leave this place. The thought of Shinrei clouded her mind. She sighed. "He must be worried sick… "
Kyo locked his bedroom door as well as the door connected to Yuya's room. "Why the fuck am I doing this?" He unlocked the doors and sat on his bed. He seems to be disturbed by so many things. He stared at the wall that is separating him and Yuya. "Dogface," he muttered. He took out the blue enveloped with the message "The Last Supper" he had received earlier. "So it was Hotaru, the Judas" he thought. His mind was filled with angst and the desire to find out who was behind all these. Kyo took out his phone, opened a messenger app and started looking for Yuya's name.
He typed: Dogface. I need you to be in office at 8AM tomorrow. Don't you dare be late or I'll kill you. He paused for a while and deleted the whole message. He began typing again, Yuya, please be at the office at 8 AM tomorrow. From Kyo. "THE FUCK!" He retorted to himself and deleted the message. "Forget it."
Tomorrow. Office. 8AM. Don't be late. was the last sent message on his phone before he fell asleep. Recipient: Dogface.
It's only half-past four and Kyoshiro was already up and showered. He was dressed in the traditional attire, a white haori with the Mibu insignia spread across his back and a light grey hakama. "It has been a while since I put this on. This is tailor-made for us every year, but we never have the chance to wear them. I wonder where are Kyo's attire. Maybe he burnt them. Hahaha… Sigh... The last time we wore this was when we went back to the main house during the New Year, around 10-12 years ago, I guess. And we never go back after," he thought to himself.
He put on some cologne, comb his hair neatly, slapped his cheeks gently a couple of times and then took a deep breath and let out a loud, "Yosh!".
He went out of his room and walked straight to the room where they placed an altar for his late mother, or rather, foster mother.
"Dear Mother," he recited in his heart. "So I overheard from Father and Shihodou-san that you were not our real mom. However, that does not mean I love you less now. I still love you and I missed you so much. Mother, I will be visiting the Main House to find out the truth about Kyo and myself. I don't know what will I find out nor what I want to know either. So please, Mother, guide me when I'm there."
"Ittekimasu," he said softly as he stood up and bowed to his mother's portrait. Muramasa who stood nearby watched Kyoshiro carefully putting on his zori and making his way out of the house. It was still dark outside and it was a chilly morning. Muramasa whispered from behind the shoji, "Itterashai."
"Kyoshiro, you're all grown up now, my son" Muramasa carrying a couple of sesame dumpling and placing them on his wife's altar. "My dear Mayumi, look at how big they are now. So grown up and slowly maturing into the world. I wanted to tell them the truth, but I guess I should let them find out themselves. The seal will wear off on Kyo, I'm sure he will hate me more than he already has. I think it's time for me to start my preparation. I feel a strong wind this morning, Mayumi. Soon, we'll be together again."
