Meanwhile, on the other side of the swamp Midna and Link were patiently waiting for the others. As they heard a scream, the two became very concerned.
"Should we check on them"? Link asked.
"That was Ivena's scream of course"! Midna replied.
The two traveled back the same way they came to find Zelda and Ursula comforting a bawling Ivena.
"What happened?….Where's Linkle"? Midna asked.
Ivena tried to answer, but she could only spit out a few words.
"Linkle fell…my fault….Linkle fell…my fault"!
She kept repeating these words over and over as if she had gone mad. Midna went over to her sister and tried to comfort her. Link could only fear what may have happened to her. So, before anyone could stop him, he leaped over the edge and fell into the swamp. The others quickly abandoned Ivena and ran to the edge shouting his name. However, they couldn't see the bottom through the thick black clouds that blocked their view.
The first thing that Linkle felt was pain. It burned as if fire covered her. Then, she began to hear voices. There were two of them, and they sounded like children.
"I'm telling you, she's not an ordinary fox"! said one.
"Really? And why is that"?! The other asked.
"First, she's surviving in the Twilight. Second, she has markings all over her. Third, look at her paw! It has the symbol of the Triforce"! The first argued.
"That is a good point…" the second voice trailed off.
"Wait, I think she's waking up! Put on the disguises" The first one said.
Linkle opened her eyes to see two blurry figures. As her eyes focused she noticed that they were two monkeys. One appeared to be female and the other male. The female had a pink flower by her ear as if it were an accessory. The male was much larger and appeared to be a leader figure. Another thing she noticed was that they were upside down. Realizing her mistake, Linkle made an attempt to flip herself over, but a scream of pain stopped her.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you" said the female. Linkle was in shock seeing that the monkey had just spoken. Then, putting two and two together, she realized this must be a power of the fox that she currently was.
"We found you passed out and hurt in the nearby swamp. We have tried to heal your wounds, but with the Twilight covering Faron we were limited. You'll have to stay here for a few days before you can walk. By the way, I'm Saria and this is our Boss monkey Ook" the female explained.
"Do you by any chance know someone named Link"? Asked Ook.
Linkle's ears perked up at the sound of his name.
"So you do know someone named Link"! Exclaimed Saria.
Linkle nodded in response.
"That's great! We do too, and that means that you can be trusted with…" Saria was cut off by Ook covering her mouth.
"Now Saria, we don't know for sure if she can be trusted. What do you know of Link"? Ook asked.
Linkle proceeded to tell the two monkeys about Link's stories and told of the happenings from the past couple days. The two monkeys listened intently and didn't make a sound until she was finished.
"Now are you convinced"? Saria asked.
"Fine…" Ook replied.
Right before her eyes, Linkle saw as the monkeys transformed into two Hylian looking children clad in green. The boy had red hair and freckles, while the girl had green hair.
"Have you ever heard of the Kokiri"? Saria asked.
Linkle shook her head.
"The Kokiri are the ancient children of the forest. We are immortal children who can take on many different forms. We were created by our deceased father, The Great Deku Tree. His son now watches over Faron and has chosen us to watch over the Forest Temple. We know the Link you speak of, because he rescued me from a cage and got rid of the parasite infecting Ook. By the way, Ook is only his monkey name. His real name is Mido. However, we also know another Link. He grew up as one of us until destiny called him elsewhere. Even after death, he lingered and appeared as either a golden wolf or a skeletal warrior. The Link you know eased his regrets and allowed him to pass on to the next world. Now the time for a hero has come again, as the Twilight covers us once again. The only reason we can survive is due to our immortal souls, but we cannot last much longer. The others are currently stuck as monkeys and are being poisoned by the Twilight. We need your help to discover the secrets of the Forest Temple to save Faron". Saria explained.
Linkle nodded in response after waving off the initial shock and confusion.
"However, with your current state, we don't know what to do". Saria sighed.
"I think I can help with that" said a voice in the shadows.
"Who goes there"?! shouted Mido as he pulled out a wooden spear.
"Just an old friend" the voice spoke again.
"I warn you I'm armed" Mido warned.
Link appeared out of the bushes with a toothy grin.
"I doubt you could hurt me with a stick, Mido" he said.
"Wha! How do YOU know my name?! You're not our Link"! Mido questioned.
"There's no time to explain right now, but we need to get to the Forest Temple right away"! Link exclaimed.
