I had this crossover idea recently and decided I wanted to just do it. As you know, some characters will be replaced by the Legend of Korra characters, and no bending the elements, only guns. As you can guess, Korra will be Korra McClain in my story and Tahno will be her love interest during her reluctant adventures to stop very evil villains who mostly are after the same thing. Anyway, don't let me keep you all waiting, enjoy The Die Hard legend of Korra, my dear friends.
Arriving at the Christmas party
In 1998, on Christmas Eve, at the Los Angeles airport, a plane was landing. And in that plane, a 17 year old girl was holding the arms of her seat, as she barely liked flying while the man beside her smiled and asked. "You don't like flying, do ya?"
"What gives you that idea?" The black girl with long hair in headbands and a ponytail asked.
The man then asked with a smile, thinking he could help her a bit. "You wanna know the secret to surviving air travel?" Making the girl listen. "After you get where you're going, take off your shoes and socks. Then you walk around on the rug barefoot and make fists with your toes."
This confused her a bit. "Fists with your toes?"
The man laughed and said. "I know, I know. It sounds crazy. But trust me, I've been doing it for 9 years. Yes ma'am. Better than a shower and a hot cup of coffee. Hahaha."
The girl smiled. "Okay." Before she and the other passengers began getting up and collecting their belongings. The man saw the handle of a gun and was a bit worried before she assured him. "It's okay, I got a license and a permit." Making him nod. "I dream of being a cop 1 day and to do that, had to practice with guns, and I even take self defense classes. Trust me, I have the talent and skills for it, so once I fill out my application, I'm in the academy." Before getting down a large teddy bear she brought for some kids she knew that lived in the city.
The girl then gently passed an attendant and made her way off the plane and into the airport. And once outside, she got out a cigarette and lit up, taking a drag and blowing out the smoke. Ever since her parents moved to LA, which caused a fight between them, as she'd gotten her own place and didn't want to leave her home city, she'd taken up smoking to relieve stress and despite wanting to be a cop, she'd been a bit of a rebel girl and her parents only found out about her bad habit after they were settled in. And so, wanting for transportation, she found a nearby bench and sat down while smoking her cigarette to pass the time.
Meanwhile, at the place the girl was visiting
As Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 in G Major was playing in the background, the CEO of the company was walking up to the rail while greeting his board members in a friendly way before he addressed his employees. "Ladies and gentlemen! Ladies and gentlemen!" He called out, getting the attention of all but 4, who were walking up to their office. "I'd like to thank each and every 1 of you for making this 1 of the greatest years in the history of the Nakatomi Corporation!" He said, making them clap their hands. "On behalf of the chief executive officer, Mr. Ozu, and the board of directors, we thank you, 1 and all and wish you a merry Christmas and a happy New Year!"
"Happy New Year!" The employees cheered.
As the 4 top employees, Tonraq, Senna, Ridaq and Laira were walking to their shared office, an employee named Harry Ellis walked up to them. "Hey, guys, what about dinner tonight, huh?"
Senna only said. "Not interested, Harry."
"And it's Christmas Eve." Laira added after her best friend. "Families, Stockings. Chestnuts? Rudolph and Frosty? Any of those ring a bell?"
"Actually, I was thinking we all have mulled wine, nice aged bries…and a roaring fireplace. Know what I'm sayin'? Ellis asked with a hint of lustful intentions towards the ladies as they entered the office, with their pregnant friend Pema on the phone with her children.
"Pema, it's 5:40." Senna said with a smile.
"Why not go join the party? You're making us feel like Ebenezer Scrooge." Ridaq added.
"Well, I'd really love to, but I'm really busy talking to my sweet little Ikki, Mr. Jones." Pema explained.
"How about we all talk to her?" Senna asked, wanting to speak with the sweet little girl.
"Of course." Pema said, putting the phone on speaker. "By the way, Harry, see if you can find Tahno and send him here."
"Last chance." Harry said to the married women.
"Go." Ridaq told him.
Senna then greeted Ikki over the phone. "Hello, little Ikki. This is Mrs. Gennero speaking."
"Ms. Senna! When is mommy coming home?" Little Ikki asked.
"Pretty soon. Pretty soon. You and your sister and brother will be in bed when we get there, though." Senna answered sweetly.
"Let us talk to your daddy and Ms. Jones, okay, honey?" Laira asked politely.
"And remember, Ikki, you and your brother and sister better not snoop around the house looking for presents." Pema reminded her middle daughter.
But Ikki wanted to know something. "Mr and Mrs. Gennero, we know that the Jones's are coming, but…is Korra coming home with you, too?"
Senna and Tonraq looked at each other with doubt before answering her. "Well, we'll see what Santa and all of us can do, okay?"
"Put our mother on. Bye, honey." Laira said sweetly.
"Ms. Jones." Ikki called out.
After a few seconds, she heard a lady's voice. "Hello, sweetie."
"Hello, Zue. Did our daughter call?" Senna asked.
"No, Senna, she didn't."
"Well, she probably didn't have time before her flight." Tonraq said. "It might be a good idea to make up 1 of the extra bedrooms. Just in case."
"Don't worry, Tonraq. The kids, Zue and I did that already." Pema's husband, Tenzin informed them.
Pema smiled. "What would we do without you, honey?"
Tenzin chuckled. "We'll see you all in a little while, sweetheart."
"Bye, Tenzin." Senna said before she hung up the phone before she gave a sad look and sighed, thinking that Korra wouldn't come and making Tonraq look at their family picture with Korra in it and push it down in a bit of frustration as Tahno came in.
"Hey, mom. Hey, dad." Tahno said with a smile.
"Hi, son." Tahno's parents greeted with a small smile.
"Mrs. McClain, I heard that your daughter, Korra, might be coming tonight. Is that true?" Tahno asked, as he'd been told a lot about his parents' best friends' daughter.
"Honestly, I really don't know." Senna answered. "She's always been a free spirit. A born and bred New York girl."
"And…our moving here strained our relationship with her because she didn't want to leave." Tonraq added after his wife. "New York has always been part of her. But then again, what New Yorker hasn't felt that way?"
"I don't really blame her. We were born in New York, and so was Tahno. But you guys know that we wanted to raise him in a safer city." Laira said. "But, from what you guys said, she moved out and got her own place before the big move, didn't she?"
"She did. With our job earning us a lot of money, and her own part time job of helping the NYPD part time, she got a very good amount of it to afford her own apartment." Senna answered. "She was fine moving to her own place, as it was still in New York, but when we asked her to move to LA with us, that's when our relationship with her became strained."
Ridaq comforted his friends. "Well, I'm sure that…if she is coming, you may be able to change her mind, for the kids' sake, I hope. She does love them, doesn't she?"
"Of course she does, like her own little siblings." Pema answered.
"Well, I've been really wanting to meet her for a while. Maybe if she's coming, I can talk with her and get to know her a little. Maybe she can tell me what New York is like, from her point of view. I've really wanted to know my hometown, and she may have a few good stories to tell." Tahno said.
"You'd be surprised what stories she could tell you about New York, Tahno." Senna said. "She's much like you: dreaming of being a cop 1 day and she's even taken self-defense classes like you and, against our better judgement, practiced using guns. We had no problem with her wanting to be a cop, we just thought she'd settle for a safe desk job."
"So, she's a girl of action, right?" Tahno asked.
"Unfortunately, like you, yes. You 2 have that, and your dream of being a cop, in common." Tonraq answered with a sigh.
"Well, if she is coming, I'm more than eager to meet her now." Tahno said with eagerness to meet Korra, as they had some things in common.
Meanwhile, with Korra
The young New York girl was still sitting on a bench, holding the bear as a limo pulled up and a young black man stepped out before holding a sign that said 'K. McClain' on it. So she stood up and said. "I'm Korra McClain."
"Argyle. I'm your limo driver." He introduced himself before noticing the bear. "Nice bear."
"Okay, Argyle. What do we do now?" Korra asked.
"I was, uh, hoping you could tell me. It's my 1st time driving a limo." Argyle answered honestly as he took off his shades.
"That's okay. It's my 1st time ridin' in 1." Korra said with a smirk.
A bit later
As Argyle was driving Korra, who was sitting in the passenger seat, to the Nakatomi skyscraper, he told her in a friendly way. "Relax. We got everything in this mug, girl. Look at this–CD, C.B, TV, telephone, full bar, VHS." He said as he laughed a bit. "If you got to trot, I know some guys you can hook up with. Or are you still looking for someone who matches your style?"
"Something like that." Korra answered before noticing the trash on the floorboard.
"Oh, sorry about that. It's the girl's day off and I didn't know you were gonna sit up front." Argyle said while clearing the trash away. "So, uh, your mom and pops live out here or did you come alone?"
"They've lived here for about the past 6 months." Korra answered while lighting up a cigarette for herself while opening the window, taking a drag before blowing out the smoke.
"Meaning you still live in New York." Argyle concluded.
"You always ask this many questions, Argyle?" Korra asked.
Argyle chuckled. "Sorry, girl. I used to drive a cab, and, uh, people would expect a little chit chat. So, you independent?"
"You could say that." Korra said, taking a drag from her cigarette and blowing out the smoke from her nose. "My folks had good jobs. Which turned into a great career."
"And that meant they had to move here." Argyle concluded.
"You're very fast, Argyle. They moved here for that, and to be close to really close family friends, 2 of which have 3 kids and 1 more weeks away."
"So, why didn't you come?" Argyle asked, to which Korra was hesitant to answer. "Well, why didn't you come with them, girl? What's up?"
"Cause I'm a born and raised New York girl, who plans on becoming a cop sometime soon. I can't just give up on my dream, pack up and leave my home city that easily." Korra answered.
"So, in other words, you thought they weren't gonna make out here, and they'd come back home, so why bother to pack, especially when you're independent, right?"
"Like I said, you're very fast, Argyle." Korra said with a smirk at how quick Argyle was.
"Mind if we hear some tunes?" Argyle asked before turning on the radio and hearing Christmas in Hollis. "Yeah, that'll work." He said before bobbing his head to the music.
"Christmas in Hollis, huh?" Korra asked, taking a drag from her cigarette and blowing out the smoke.
"Yep. Great Christmas music." Argyle answered as he kept driving while Korra continued to smoke her cigarette as the music played.
It was December 24th on Hollis Ave in the dark
When I see a man chilling with his dog in the park
I approached very slowly with my heart full of fear
Looked at his dog, oh my God, an ill reindeer
But then I was illin' because the man had a beard
And a bag full of goodies, 12 o'clock had neared
So I turned my head a second and the man had gone
But he left his driver's wallet smack dead on the lawn
I picket the wallet up then I took a pause
Took out the license and it cold said "Santa Claus"
The limo pulled up to the front door of the Nakatomi building and Korra got out while finishing her cigarette and stomping it out on the ground while Argyle spoke to her again. "So your parents see you, you run into each other's arms, the music comes up, and you live happily ever after, right?"
"I can live with that." Korra answered.
"So, if it doesn't work out, you got a place to stay?"
"No, but I'll find a place if it doesn't go well." Korra answered.
Argyle then said. "Tell you what: I'm gonna pull in the parking garage, and I'll wait. You work it out, you give me a call on the car phone." He said, handing her the number. "I'll take your bags to the desk. You strike out, I'll get you a hotel."
Korra smiled, as Argyle was an okay guy. "You're all right, Argyle."
"Just remember that when you sign for the tip." Argyle said with a grin.
"I'll try my absolute best." Korra said with a smile before she went inside the building and looked around before seeing the guard at the front desk. "Hi."
"Good evening." The guard greeted her.
"I'm here to see Tonraq and Senna McClain."
"Just type it in there." He said while pointing out the directory device to locate employees.
Korra touched the screen and it brought up employee names. "Cool toy."
"Yeah. If you need to take a leak, it'll even help you find your zipper. Hahaha." The guard laughed.
Korra chuckled at the joke and searched the M section but didn't see her parents' names. She typed the exit button and pushed the G letter and both her parents' names, and the last name, Gennero, appeared, making her a bit mad, but she didn't show it. So, she pushed their buttons on it and showed that they were on the 30th floor. "30th floor."
"The party. They're the only ones left in the building. Take the express elevator and get off where you hear the noise." The guard said while pointing to the elevator's direction.
"Thanks." Korra said before pushing the exit button again and going around the corner to the elevator. "Fucking hell, Mom and dad." She whispered with silent anger before she began whistling 'Jingle bells' to calm herself, seeing another guard along the way before she pressed the button and entered the elevator. When it opened on the 3th floor, she walked out and walked through the crowd, a bit amazed at seeing the people.
That was when a man saw her. "Hey! Merry Christmas." He said before pecking her cheeks and walking off.
Korra rubbed her cheeks. "Jesus. Fucking California." She said with a bit of annoyance before seeing the middle aged Japanese man watching her. She walked up to him and said. "Hi. I'm looking for–"
But he cut her off. "Tonraq said Senna Gennero?"
"Yeah."
"Then you must be their daughter, Korra. Joe Takagi." The man introduced himself while shaking her hand. "How was your ride in?"
"Nice. I'm guessing I have you to thank for that?" Korra asked with a knowing smile.
"It seemed the least we could do." Takagi answered.
"Quite the place you have here." Korra said with amazement at the building.
"It will be, if we ever get it finished. There are still 7 floors under construction." Takagi said before he led her to her parents' office. "Your parents and their friends went down to the vault to fax some documents. She should be back any minute." But when they got inside, they saw Ellis, who was sniffing something, and to Korra's eyes, her instinct told her that it was cocaine. "Ellis." Takagi said with a glare.
That got his attention and he got up from the chair. "I was just makin' a call and this was, uh, the nearest phone." He lied, which Korra could tell right away.
"Why do I not believe that, you lying, sleazy asshole?" Korra thought to herself.
Takagi ignored that and introduced Korra. "I want you to meet Korra, Tonraq and Senna's daughter." Before telling Korra a bit about him. "Ellis is in charge of our international development."
"Heard a heck a lot about you." Ellis said as he sniffed while taking Korra's hand.
But Korra gently snatched her hand back and said. "You missed some."
"Uh, can I get you anything? Food, cake, uh, some watered down drink?" Takagi offered.
"No, thanks, I'm fine." Korra politely declined while looking at a picture. "You do throw quite a party. I didn't realize they celebrated Christmas in Japan. No offense to you, Sir."
"Oh, none taken, Korra." Takagi said. "We're very flexible. Pearl Harbor didn't work, so we got you with tape decks."
Korra smiled at how kind he was while Ellis laughed at the joke. "Actually, it's sort of a double celebration. We, uh, closed a pretty good deal today. A lot of it was due to your parents, am I right, Jo-Jo?"
But that was when they heard 2 voices coming their way. "You guys go on without us. We'll be along in about 4 minutes at least." Senna said before both she, her husband and Pema, stopped when they saw Korra.
"Korra?" Tonraq asked with surprise as Korra smiled at seeing them again. They walked over to her as he asked. "Have you met everyone, dear?" Before they hugged her.
"Of course she has." Takagi answered with a smile before telling Korra. "Your parents were made for business. They're tough as nails."
"Hi, Korra, it's great to see you." Pema said while hugging her as well.
"Hi, Pema. Great to see you, too." Korra said with a smile, as she'd long had a soft spot for the kind lady.
"We hoped you made that flight." Senna said with a smile that her daughter had come.
"Hey, Senna, why don't you show her the watch?" Ellis asked.
"Later."
"Come on, show her the watch. What, are you embarrassed?" Ellis said before informing Korra. "It's something I got her for her hard work. It's a Rolex."
Korra ignored him and asked. "Is there someplace I can wash up?"
"Sure, sweetie." Senna answered before leading her daughter to the nearby bathroom.
But unknown to anyone, danger was approaching the building, with its occupants having very evil intentions in mind.
When Korra got to the bathroom, she took off some of her clothes, save for her white tank top, pants and shoes as her father said to her. "You'll have to forgive Ellis. He gets very depressed this time of year."
"He thought he was God's greatest gift, you know?" Senna added.
"Yeah. I know the type." Korra said as she washed herself with sink water. "I also know that he's a sleazy cocaine snorter who's tried to hit on me."
"Don't worry, sweetheart, I've got my eye on him." Tonraq assured her.
"So, where are you staying?" Senna asked. "Things happened so fast, we didn't get a chance to ask you on the phone."
"How about instead of finding a hotel, you stay with us at Pema's home. It's big enough for us, our friend, Ridaq's family and we always have a spare bedroom." Tonraq offered. "Besides, Tenzin, Pema and their kids would absolutely love to have you there. And Ridaq's son, Tahno's been eager to meet you. He's a lot like you, especially wanting to be a cop 1 day."
"That so, huh?" Korra asked with a small smile.
"Yeah." Senna said softly. "And we would, too. We…both really missed you."
Korra thought back to earlier and said with a frown. "I guess you both didn't miss our family name, huh? Since when did you start using Mr and Mrs. Gennero?"
Tonraq tried to explain. "It's a Japanese company, Korra."
"What country this company is from doesn't matter, dad, it's not an excuse to change your name from our family name." Korra said, beginning an argument.
"Let's not do this again, Korra. We did this in July." Senna said, trying to stop the argument.
"We never finished the conversation in July."
"Korra, we had a great opportunity. We had to take it." Senna told her.
"Right. No matter what the consequences. No matter what it did to our parent-daughter relationship, you had to take it."
"It didn't do anything to our relationship with you except strain it because you didn't want to leave New York!" Tonraq said with a bit of force.
"Because New York is our home!" Korra said.
"No, home is where we're all together as a family, but you just couldn't, and still don't see it." Senna countered.
But before it could go any further, Pema came in, with Tahno. "Hey, guys." She greeted. "Tonraq. Senna, Mr. Takagi's looking for you both. He wants you to say something to the troops. I brought Tahno so he could meet Korra and keep her company."
Senna smiled. We'll be right there, Pema."
"Speech time." Tonraq said to Korra. "We'll be back in a few minutes, but this conversation isn't over, especially about your disgusting habit, young lady." He said before he, his wife and Pema left the office, leaving Tahno alone with Korra.
"Really nice, Korra. Very mature." Korra said, lecturing herself before greeting Tahno. "You must be Tahno, right?"
"Yeah. And you must be Korra? Korra Gennero?" Tahno asked politely.
"Korra McClain." Korra corrected. "Gennero's my mom's maiden name."
"Oh. That's an even better name. Kinda has a strong vibe to it." Tahno said with a smile. "My name's Tahno. Tahno Jones. My parents are close friends of yours."
"That so?" Korra asked before noticing how he was dressed. "Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's New York clothing, isn't it?"
"Yeah, it is. I was raised in Los Angeles since I was a baby, but I was born in New York. My Mom told me a few months after I turned 7." Tahno revealed.
"Really? You're a born New York guy." Korra asked with interest. "Have you ever been there?"
"Honestly, no. But my parents have told me about their lives in New York, and ever since, I've been…very curious about my hometown." Tahno said with some sadness. "But, with me being so busy helping my grandma, Zue, and my parents and trying to become a cop, despite being a bit of a rebel guy, I never really had much time to go. But, a born and raised New York girl like you could tell me about that city, from your point of view, could you?"
Korra smiled, as she really did have lots in common with this guy. "Well, we got some time. I'd love to."
"Great. Tell me everything." Tahno said with a smile. "But 1st, what's the disgusting habit your dad scolded you about?"
Korra felt she could trust him and showed him her lighter. "Cigarette smoking. I've been doing it ever since my parents moved. And that reason is actually why I started in the 1st place." She answered before sitting down.
"Oh." Tahno said before he smiled and sat beside her. "Don't worry." He said before whispering in her ear. "I smoke, too."
"Really." Korra said with a raised eyebrow. "Guess that's another thing we have in common. Your parents know?"
"Well, not really. I've always been very careful to hide it from them, even though I have a feeling that they already know." Tahno answered honestly.
"Maybe they do. But if they haven't tried to stop you, they probably think you'll quit 1 day." Korra said while putting her lighter away. "You bring a pack or a lighter with you?"
"No. I didn't wanna disappoint my parents and ruin a special day for them." Tahno answered.
"Well, I smoked my last 2 on the way here, so, guess we'll both have to go buy some more packs soon. If I decide to stay, that is." Korra said.
"I… hope so. I'm really curious to learn a bit about you." Tahno said with a smile. "Maybe you could spend Christmas with me and my family and I'll introduce you to them?"
Korra seemed interested and said with a smile. "I'll…think about it. But in the meantime, let me tell you about our hometown."
It seemed like it was going to be a good Christmas this year for them. But unknown to anyone, danger was approaching the building, with unexpected guests having very evil intentions in mind. And it would cause events that would change both Korra and Tahno's life forever, for both good and bad.
