As Rhea walks through the hallways towards their bedrooms, she couldn't help but be disappointed by Five's reaction to her. Sure, he'd clearly gone through something - time travelled is what Mr. Hargreeves had always suspected – but why be so suspicious of her?
She hadn't a clue what he was like other than what the others had said about him, though the opinions varied between whom she spoke to. Luther mainly complained how Five always thought he was better than them, even though he was Number 1, ergo the leader. Diageo and Allison didn't really say much about him other than he was very clever and always wanted to improve on his powers. Ben didn't want to talk about Five after he disappeared, so she never pushed, and Klaus always said he was the least affectionate of the seven.
Vanya was the only one who really spoke often and fondly of Five – she had said that before Rhea had arrived, he was the only one who was kind whereas the others had picked on her for being powerless. She also used to gush over Five's ability to learn new things with ease in order to be smarter than everyone, but when he was with her, they'd make peanut butter and marshmallow sandwiches and just talk. Vanya was so animated when she spoke of him, that Rhea had suspected that her new sister had had a bit of a crush on the missing boy. At the time, Rhea thought Five sounded intriguing and she was a little jealous she hadn't gotten to know the boy she couldn't take her eyes off as he stormed out the Academy.
Rhea pauses at Ben's bedroom door and leans on the doorframe to study the room she hadn't seen in years. Her gaze focuses on one of his jumpers that had been haphazardly thrown on his bed on the morning of That Day. Mr Hargreeves had declared that no one was allowed to move or touch anything in there after Ben's death, which she always had hoped was because it was too hard for him too - not to remind them all of their failure as he so often boldly stated. That Day in 2006. The day they found out how cruel real life outside the Academy really was. It impacted and changed all their lives, especially hers and Klaus'.
Klaus had confided in her long ago that Ben was still with him in ghost form and had tried to convince her it was his fault. He hadn't delved into how it was his fault, mind you, but Rhea always tried to assure him that Ben probably preferred to stay and look out for him rather than disappear completely. Whether or not Klaus believed her, Rhea couldn't say, but he did say he felt a little better that his secret was half shared.
Rhea stands there for a few minutes to mourn her first friend and loss at the academy then she pushes off the frame to walk to her old room. Sure she could have spatial jumped there, but she was so tired from the flight over, she just wanted to relax after the long journey. Travelling by air helped her feel more 'normal,' though it was damned near impossible to be most of the time – what with being a Hargreeves and all.
Passing her mirror framed with nostalgic teen pictures from J-14 and Tiger Beat magazine clippings, she can't help but be transported back to her past as her still 16 year-old face stares back at her. As she moves around the room, she is reminded of the days Vanya sat on her bed crying, either because of the others' meanness or Mr. Hargreeves shooing her away from their training sessions. She can see young Ben and Klaus laughing from the doorway that day they tried to scare her with a dead spider. Her old hairbrush even reminds her of a teen Allison standing behind her trying to braid her hair into a style they saw in a Julia Roberts movie. She also remembers Diageo lying in the middle of her bed…
Rhea shakes her head to clear the memories. Clearly, she'd been away from this house too long, so she resolves to try harder to stop these thoughts and memories creeping back in.
Lying down on her bed, she sinks into the same old comfy pillows and embraces the scent of clean, fresh linens. Mom, (at Graces' insistence she call her so) evidently knew she would come back; the others' rooms no doubt had also been given fresh bedding in preparation for their stay.

Just when Rhea's about to doze off, she hears the familiar surge of a spatial jump coming from upstairs. Five. Of course it was him, who else could do that besides her. Suspecting he probably wouldn't be bothering her anytime soon, she turns over to face the wall and tries to ignore the clanging of clothes hangers and muttering sounds carrying down the stairs from his room. A few minutes later, she hears the same surge, only this time it's louder, like it's closer?
Five emits an awkward quiet cough. Oh bugger, he's in here - Rhea's thoughts scream. She opens her eyes and promptly sits up on the bed to face him, grateful she was on top of the covers.
"Erm, hi," she croaks. Annoyed by how her voice betrays her to show her nerves, she subtly tries clear her throat, "can I help you with something, Five?"
Dressed in his old Umbrella Academy uniform and hair combed back, Five looks at her with the same intense expression he did when he first saw her in the courtyard. He looks as though he's trying to figure her out, but his old eyes don't even hint if he's deduced a positive or negative result. He's practically emotionless, yet exceedingly calculating and almost curious? - Her thoughts buzz.
"Look, the others explained who you are. And I know that a Rhea did exist in this house – I just needed to confirm you were her, alright?" He glances down at his feet then scuffs some dust off his black shoe using the carpet. Apparently he wasn't going to expand on that.
"Is that supposed to be an apology," Rhea asks incredulously, "for the way you just show up here after all this time and the first thing you do is accuse and threaten me?"
"Well no. I'm trying to say I get why you're here but I'm not sure I can trust you as I know hardly anything about you." His eyes peek up again, but this time he avoids eye contact. "Diego and my delightful siblings told me to come up here and speak to you - I was, as you can see, outvoted." He then mutters, "even though there are far more important things to be getting on with right now."
Five begins to inspect her room, his hands stuffed in his navy shorts' pockets. The action reminds her of a kid in detention who just can't understand any reason why he's there. He certainly doesn't seem have any confidence issues like most teenagers had.
"So, what do you want me to do - go? Because I've been part of this shit-show for over half my life and even though Hargreeves wasn't a dad to me, he at least took me in when I had nowhere else to go." Which was true; Mr Hargreeves wasn't a loving person at all, hence why she never felt the need to call him 'Dad' like the others did. Not that Hargreeves was affectionate towards them either sadly, but she summarised the 'dad' title stemmed from infancy.
Five picks up the framed photo of Rhea and Ben from her dressing table, they were about 15 when the picture was taken.
"How come you haven't aged like the others?" Five muses as he studies the image.
Rhea shuffles uncomfortably on the bed and refuses to answer. Realising he spoke his thoughts aloud judging by her reaction, Five continues, "From what I've learnt about you, I know you can teleport like I can, but that doesn't explain why you're also older than you look? The others said it would be up to you to tell me." He sets the frame back down and studies the rest of the dresser. After spotting a diary-like journal he reaches out to pick it up.
An emerald light, that Five notes is the same colour as her eyes, flashes and she's there in front of him, snatching the journal away from his near grasp. "That story can wait. How about you kindly tell me what's going on with your sudden reappearance, or let me go to find out from someone who will?"
Since the room was quite small, like all the others on this side of the house, the redhead was stood a lot closer to him than he expected her to be. His eyes were level with her chest again, and this time he doesn't hide his observation of the way her tight, black, long-sleeved jumper enhances the feminine curves on her slim figure.
Rhea notices the teens' pupils drift downward and just as she was about to say something - and possibly slap him - he steps back and looks into her eyes again with a bored expression. "If you'll follow me back downstairs, I'll summarise what I told the others."
Guessing this was probably his way of extending an olive branch, and deciding she didn't want to be his enemy, Rhea gestures for him to lead the way. Hopefully there's some coffee down there, she internally wishes.

When they reach the main room, Rhea still can't believe what Five had just told her: he's 50 plus years-old, in a 13-year-old body. He came back from the future after 40 odd years and the future is quote, "shit." Well, she could relate to the whole being older in a younger body thing, but the future itself? I wonder what it's like? She contemplates as she sits on the couch. Propping her back against the paisley-covered cushions, Rhea settles her feet on the coffee table to stretch her legs. Meanwhile Five silently stares up at the portrait of himself hung above the fireplace, hands back in his pockets.
Vanya appears in the doorway and timidly approaches Five. She notices Rhea's sat down and beams at her, pleased that she and Five had made up enough to be in the same room together. Though, she was still a bit weirded out by how similar in age the two looked.
"Nice to know dad didn't forget me." Five says to no one in particular, but turns as Vanya approaches.
Rhea feels she probably shouldn't be in the room for this private reunion, so she removes her propped up boots to stand. "Stay," Five commands, though he's not even looking at her, his attention on Vanya.
"Just this once I'll listen to my elder, but only because I'm clearly not getting any coffee any time soon and could do with the sit-down since you disturbed my nap attempt." Rhea mutters and begins to trace the lines of the umbrella tattoo on the inside of her left wrist.
"Read your book, by the way. Found it in a library that was still standing," Five mentions to Vanya as he begins to slowly wander around. Rhea notices that his glance subtlety drifts in her direction just as frequently as it does the other objects in the room.
"I thought it was pretty good, all things considered. Yeah, definitely ballsy, giving up the family secrets; sure that went over well."
"They hate me," Vanya confesses anxiously.
"- No they don't." Rhea reassures her, not wanting her sister to feel isolated and upset again.
Five looks between the two sisters, "Oh, there are worse things that can happen."
"You mean like what happened to Ben?" The trio's expressions turn sombre at Vanya's words.
"Was it bad?" Five softly asks after a moment.
Vanya nods sadly while Rhea looks down to play with the hem of her jumper.
Changing the subject, Vanya addresses Five, "If you read my book, how come you didn't know about Rhea?" Number 8 lifts her head at this, interested in his answer as well.
Five turns his attention to Rhea again with that calculating expression on his face before shifting his attention back to Vanya. "Well, I only had what your book said about her to go on at first. You don't say much about her other than she was your only friend in this house," his eyes shift upwards towards the ceilings' beams, "after my disappearance that is."
Number 7 blushes at his words and her chocolate brown eyes cast away from his too.
Ha. Called it. Rhea smiles internally to herself. Yes, young Vanya so had a crush on him!
Vanya coughs quietly. "She was. I guess I never really wrote about her because she always stuck by me and wasn't around during the worst times in our childhood." Vanya had purposefully left out That Day in her book for Rhea's sake as well as her family's. Writing about Ben's death was just too personal for the world to hear.
Rhea fiddles with the lace of black Doc Martins and internally thanks Vanya again for not really including her in her book. The only pictures Vanya used of her adoptive siblings were black and white images of when they had their masks on, and Rhea was very good at evading the press ever since they left the academy. So it was understandable that Five didn't really know what Rhea looked like.
In an attempt to bring both girls out of their thoughts, Five continues, "You explained that she trained with the others and was part of the team on missions and things, but you don't mention her powers or why she's a still teenager. Hence my confusion of whom she was upon my arrival... When can I hear that story?" He crosses his arms and looks at them expectedly.
Luckily, both girls are saved from answering as Luther walks in and announces it's time to release their dad's ashes.
\
Of course the memorial had to end with Luther and Diego in a fight. There was no other way with those two. The girls were yelling at them to stop, whilst Klaus was egging them on and waving his pink-rimmed umbrella around. Five was un-phased by it all, but obviously irritated they were all wasting time and Pogo's disappointment in the brothers was evident. Mom's confusion about this whole day was a bit odd, despite Diego insisting she was fine and just needed to recharge.
During the scuffle, Five utters "We don't have time for this," and motions for Rhea to follow him. She looks at him, confused, before he says, "Didn't you say you needed coffee?"
Though Rhea felt she probably should try harder to stop the boys, they clearly needed to fight this out. There was always this dominant / alpha power-struggle between the two of them – maybe this fight would end it? She was tired from the lack of caffeine anyway so why deny herself of her addiction. She shrugs and follows Five, "Count me in."
After they prop their soaked umbrellas inside the door, Five jumps into his energy field and Rhea follows, assuming his destination is the kitchen.
As Rhea steps into the room, her body bounces backwards as she collides into Five's surprisingly firm stance. Five's reflexes are just as fast, and he grabs her by the arms before she can fully fall on her arse. In this awkward position of her butt hanging inches off the ground because of his hold of her, their gazes meet again. As he studies her kohl rimmed eyes, this time, his seem full of concern and what she thought was a hint of embarrassment. He pulls her towards him so she can straighten up and regain a standing position.
Completely stunned by his unexpected and momentarily kind eyes, Rhea utters her "thanks" quietly. Five slowly lets go of her arms and she tries to ignore the heat she can feel rising in her cheeks. Stupid clumsiness, Rhea - she internally growls to herself.
Five breaks the awkward silence, "Of all the space in the kitchen, our calculations pick the same spot? That's impossible," he says in disbelief.
Rhea steps back and away from him, now startled by this as much as he is. "I didn't really think about it, I just sort of… knew I was following you and I think I might have stepped into your teleport," she confesses.
"You followed me through? But we were not even touching." His head tilts to the side as he questions her. The only way either of them had managed to bring anyone else with them through a spatial jump before was by physical contact.
"I guess so. I didn't mean to, it just… happened." She crosses her arms anxiously and moves to look inside the cupboards, "So how about that coffee?"
Five remains where he stood, quietly speculating how that was even possible when Klaus dreamily wanders into the room carrying a guitar in one hand and his ankle boots in the other.
"Aw, little sister, little brother, how lovely it is to see you two together," he unceremoniously dumps his shoes at one end of the table. "There's so much teen cuteness in here, I hope there's still room for lil' ol' me?" Klaus sighs happily as he sits down at the other end of the table and lifts his legs up to start hugging the guitar.
Both of Klaus' adoptive siblings ignore him and Five jolts himself out of his thoughts to go to the opposite side of the kitchen to Rhea to help riffle around for coffee.
Allison enters and sets her coat down on the arm chair, "Where's Vanya?" she asks.
"Oh, she's gone." Klaus replies airily.
Rhea frowns at this since she and Vanya had previously agreed to go home together so they could catch up.
Five carries over an empty french press he found and lifts in in Rhea's direction, "That's unfortunate."
Allison, thinking he means in response to Vanya's disappearance, agrees, "Yeah."
Five resumes, "An entire square block. 42 bedrooms, 19 bathrooms, but no, not a single drop of coffee." Rhea huffs in disappointment.
"Dad hated caffeine." Allison states as if it was obvious.
"Well, he hated children, too, and he had plenty of us," Klaus chuckles, "even added to the collection with this one here." He points at Rhea who scowls at him for the nth time that day.
"I'm taking the car. You're coming with me." Five announces and orders Rhea again. Rhea walks around Klaus towards Five as he turns to leave thinking why not, considering their current coffee hunt in here was a bust. Vanya would understand and they could always chat tonight.
"Where are you both going?" Klaus inquires suspiciously as he sits up in his chair.
Five regards him, "To get a decent cup of coffee."
Next to Five, Rhea nods, "as if there was any other reason I'd follow this man-child." To which Five sarcastically grins back at her. Rhea observes he has dimples, something she suspects would have been quite endearing had his smile been actually genuine.
Allison crosses her arms with scepticism, "Do you even know how to drive?"
"I know how to do everything." He stares at Allison intently for a moment, before he pulls Rhea by the arm into his teleport out of there.
They appear in front of his dad's old car and Five opens the front passenger-side door and waits behind it. Did he just open the door for me? For the second time within a few minutes, Rhea is completely taken aback by an unexpected act from the previously cold Five. She shuffles past him and gets into the car.
Once she's seated, Five shuts her door before he flashes over to the driver side and gets in. As he turns the key and sets off, Rhea can't help but get the feeling this is going to be a long, strange night.
