I stood in front of the building in front of me, taking in its form and the lettering written into it to promote the business. To any normal person this building may seem like any ordinary clinic in a small town. But to me, it was much more. It was home.
The tiny bell rang out as I pushed the glass doors leading into the clinic open. I barely managed to stop myself from gasping out when I entered the building. Everything was the same. From the way the medicine was organized on the shelves, to where the cash register was placed. Even the old musty smell that I had grown used to was still there.
"Welcome!" a female voice called out. "Are you here to pick up a prescription?"
I turned towards the voice and my eyes went wide. My own mother was walking out from the back of one of the shelves and made her way towards me. Her face, her smile, even the way she did her hair and the perfume she wore was just how I remembered it. And she was alive and well.
Even the nametag she wore on her shirt was the same. 'Masaki Kurosaki'.
But I knew damn well that the woman in front of me, no matter how similar she looked, was not my mother. My mother died protecting me from a hollow. And it has been many years since then.
"I…" I babbled. My mind felt like mush trying to process everything that was happening.
"Oh my. You seem pale. Do you have a fever?" the woman asked worriedly. "Should I call in the clinical doctor?"
"I-I'm fine!" I blurted out. "Just wanted to buy some pills for a headache. That's all."
"Okay!" She nodded and reached under her counter and placed a small plastic bottle onto the counter. "Will this do?"
"Yeah…"
I walked over to the counter and placed a 500 yen coin on the counter.
"Wow! You know exactly how much it costs!" she complimented, taking the coin from my hand and placing it into the cash register. "Is there anything else you need?"
Before I could answer her, the door behind her burst open. Two small children ran out from behind the counter and ran in circles around me. One child had short black hair and dark eyes, and the other had light blond hair.
"Karin! Yuzu!" Masaki scolded. She scooped up the two girls in her arms in one fell swoop. "What did I say about running around when the clinic is open?"
"Waaah! Karin keeps on pulling my hair!" Yuzu wailed with tears in her eyes.
"That's because Yuzu won't stop complaining about not seeing mommy!" Karin rebuked. "I told you not to bother mommy while she's working, and you won't listen!"
"Girls, that's enough," Masaki said. Both girls immediately shut up and stared at their mother's face wistfully. "I have to take care of a customer right now. Go to your rooms and stay there until I finish up here. Understood?"
"Okay…" both girls whimpered.
After the girls sauntered upstairs to their rooms, Masaki turned to me and bowed her head. "I'm so sorry! I don't know what came over them. My daughters are usually well behaved, so I promise that this won't happen again!"
"Ah, it's fine," I replied with a light chuckle. "I'm quite used to it. I have two sisters myself after all."
"Is that so?" Masaki inquired. "Are you the oldest?"
"Yeah. One is usually serious, so she doesn't really express her emotions. The other is kinda a crybaby, so she tends to be very emotional." I explained.
"Guess we have something in common!" Masaki laughed. "Karin and Yuzu are polar opposites despite being twins. But aside from the occasional fight here and there, they get along very well."
"Do you...have another kid?" I carefully asked. I hoped my question didn't come off as too intrusive or creepy.
Thankfully, Masaki seemed completely fine with my question. "Not right now. Those girls are all I have right now. Though my husband is always talking to me about wanting a boy next."
"I'm sure if you do decide to have one, he's going to be a bundle of energy, just like those two girls." I commented. It took everything I had to keep my voice from shaking.
"Yes. I'm sure he's going to resemble his father more." Masaki finished with a laugh.
Masaki quickly handed me a receipt for the pills and I shoved it into my pocket. I slightly bowed towards her and made my way to the clinic's doors.
"Um, excuse me!"
I stopped in my tracks and glanced at Masaki. Thinking I forgot something, I checked my pockets and glanced at the counter. But she looked like she wanted to ask me something.
"Have we...met somewhere before?" Masaki asked.
I nearly crushed the bottle of pills in my pocket as I turned away from her.
"...No. I haven't met you until I walked in here."
"Oh, okay. Thank you for coming to the Kurosaki Clinic! We appreciate your patronage!"
I pushed the doors open and walked out into the outside world. Sera was waiting right outside for me. But she wasn't wearing her usual magical girl outfit. She wore much more normal clothes consisting of a teal-colored dress shirt and a somewhat poofy black dress that nearly came down to her ankles. Her look was finished off with a pair of stylish brown boots and her hair was tied into two pigtails thanks to her pink ribbons.
"Find what you need?" Sera asked. Her child-like demeanor was nowhere to be seen, replaced by a more mature one as she looked at me with concern.
"Yeah. I saw what I needed to see." I replied.
With that, the two of us walked side by side down the otherwise empty streets. As we walked, I could see our next destination slowly come up.
"Y'know, it's not like you to look so serious." I commented after a long period of silence.
"Are you okay, Ichigo?" Sera asked.
"I'm the same as usual."
"Even after seeing your deceased mother?"
"...She's not my mother. Even if she looks, sounds, and acts like her. I've already made my peace with her death." I said.
"If you say so…" Sera muttered. "If your mother was anything like the woman I saw in that clinic, I can't help but be a teensy bit jealous of you."
"...I'm sorry." I muttered.
Nearly thirteen months had passed since Sera had made me her Queen and introduced me to the supernatural world. I not only got the knowledge of this world metaphorically and physically beaten into me by Sera, but I got to know her on a much more personal level. She gave me regular house tours of her ridiculously enormous family home every now and then and told me stories of her past, including how she felt distant and disconnected from her parents due to her strict upbringing. Even though Sera was considered one of the most powerful beings in the Underworld, that didn't mean she didn't deserve caring and attentive parents. Demonic or not, no one should be ignored by their parents.
"It's okay, Ichigo. You shouldn't be apologizing for that," Sera softly chastised. "Even if I wasn't well-connected with my family, I still have So-tan. She's all the family I could possibly need."
"Even if she's constantly avoiding you?" I asked with a smirk.
"That's what makes her cute!" Sera squealed with delight. "Ah, I can't wait to see her again and tease her~"
At least Sera was back to her usual self again. Just one mention of her younger sister can brighten up her mood instantly. Maybe a bit too much, but I could understand why she loved her sister so much.
"I will admit, the way Karin tries to act tough sometimes makes her cute as well," I admitted. "I'm sure she and Sona can get along pretty well."
"Yup!" Sera beamed.
"Hey, I think we're finally here." I said as I noticed the sudden influx of students around me. The male students I saw wore the same uniform I had, albeit I wore mine without the tacky black ribbon and my jacket was unbuttoned. The female students had uniforms that bore similar designs to the male uniforms.
"Aw. Our little walk passed by in an instant." Sera grumbled childishly.
"Hey, it's not like I'm going away forever," I sighed. "Besides, you can always drop by whenever you're free. Just give me a heads up before you do."
"Ichigo!" Sera exclaimed. She wrapped me in a hug and I could already feel many pairs of eyes on me.
"Okay, okay!" I growled. "There's people watching. Mind letting me go?"
"No! Give me a few more seconds." Sera whined.
After several agonizing seconds, Sera finally let go of me. I couldn't help but think that the smile she gave me was ridiculously cute. But I'm never going to admit it to her face.
"So, about that clinic-" I began.
"Don't you worry! Miracle Levia-tan will make sure no harm comes to them! I've already set up the best protective boundary I can make around it!" Sera declared with a spin and a wink. "Though, you could probably protect them all on your own anyways."
"Thanks. I mean it." I said with a bow.
My family doesn't exist in this world. But at the very least, I was going to protect the peaceful life this world's Kurosaki family led. Masaki will never have to sacrifice herself to protect me. Karin and Yuzu can finally grow up with a mother and a father. The pain and suffering they went through if my world will be completely unknown to them. If the price to see my family happy and alive was my very existence, then I will never regret paying that price.
"Hm? You got a flower petal in your hair." Sera commented.
"Huh? Do I?"
Sera walked over to me and I saw her reaching her arm out. I thought she was going to pluck whatever was in my hair out, but I could've never expected what she was going to do next. She gently grabbed my head and kissed me on my left cheek.
"Wha-"
"Heehee. A quick sendoff gift for my hero!" Sera giggled as she quickly skipped away. "Well, see you later!"
My body went rigid as I watched Sera walk away before the crowd of students eventually engulfed her appearance. My left hand covered the spot where Sera had just kissed me, and I could feel just how hot my face felt.
"T-t-t-that damned devil!" I growled under my breath. I spun around and continued to march onwards to Kuoh Academy. I didn't care that the students who had seen what happened were either looking at me with amazement or absolute jealousy. I just wanted to get this day over with.
"Ah, we have a new transfer student coming today. You can come in now."
Taking the elderly teacher's words as the cue, I pushed the sliding door to the side and walked into the classroom. I faced the students all eagerly looking at me.
The first person I noticed right off the bat was a boy with short brown hair sitting near the window. Hyoudou Issei, wielder of the Sacred Gear Boosted Gear. I remember the Underworld being thrown into chaos for a bit when it was revealed that Sirzechs' younger sister had managed to find and recruit the Welsh Dragon itself. A being that was known to have interrupted a war between the Devils, Fallen Angels, and Angels.
That was one of my assignments Sera gave me when she sent me to the human world: to keep tabs on Hyoudou. I'm under strict orders to not directly intervene in Rias' affairs or even Sona's for that matter. I could only interfere if Sona's life was in danger.
And sitting a row behind Hyoudou in the middle was Asia Argento. A blond nun who had been reincarnated into a devil by Rias. She possessed the Sacred Gear Twilight Healing, a very powerful and rare Sacred Gear that could heal anybody. It reminded me of Orihime's abilities. I wonder if she can also make protective shields?
Judging from Issei and Asia's reactions upon seeing me enter the classroom, they knew who I was. I was expecting this, seeing how the entire supernatural world knew my name thanks to Sera literally dragging me to that press conference.
"Ah, you can introduce yourself." the teacher said.
"My name is Ichigo Kurosaki. It's nice to meet you all."
"I see an empty seat next to Issei over there. Please take a seat."
I wordlessly nodded and made my way to the aforementioned chair. I sat down and I could see Issei visibly flinch out of the corner of my eye. I could understand his reaction, but did I really look that scary? Sure, I was a delinquent in the past. But seeing someone look so scared because of me made me feel a little guilty. It's not like I was going to punch him out of the window or anything.
Homeroom seemed to fly by and so did my other classes until lunch time finally arrived. I reached into my bag and pulled out a single onigiri that I caught from a convenience store before going to that clinic. I was about to take my food's wrapping off before I was suddenly surrounded by the students in my class.
"Uh…"
"Say, is your hair color natural?" one female student asked.
"It is." I replied.
"Where are you from? You're not a foreigner, right?" another asked.
"I'm from a place called Karakura Town. It's far from here." I lied. My hometown doesn't exist in this world. The fact that a place called Kurosaki Clinic existed in the vicinity of this school was a complete coincidence.
"Do you have a girlfriend?"
"Huh!?"
The last question threw me off so much that I couldn't help but turn to face whoever asked me that question. She wore glasses over her face and her dirty brown hair was tied into two braids. Her glasses gleamed mischievously as she adjusted them to study me.
"Everyone knows what happened in front of the school," the girl said with a grin. She took her phone out of her pocket and showed me what was on its screen. When my mind registered the image on the screen, I wanted to jump out of the window, despite the classroom being two stories off the ground.
"Kyaaaa!" several girls shrieked.
"Damn you Ichigo!" I heard several boys shout in anger. "Who is she!?"
"No one! She's not my girlfriend!" I shouted in anger.
"Hoh? Even though you're bold enough to kiss in public?" the girl questioned. "She's quite the looker. I bet you do all kinds of lewd things after school. Some of the boys in this school should take a page out of your book."
The glasses girl suddenly lit up. "Ah! If the two of you aren't dating, maybe you have a friends-with-benefits thing going on?"
"Get those perverted delusions outta your head!" I was beginning to reach my limit. If this glasses girl continued to make false
I never thought that hearing the bell go off to signal the end of lunch was a beautiful sound until I heard it. It caused the students that had surrounded me to finally leave and go to their own seats. To be honest, I could care less about being interrogated by the students here. It's whenever Sera is brought up that kills me. I just wanted to finish high school as a normal person and complete the tasks given to me without any trouble.
The school day finally came to an end after several hours. I got up from my seat and swiftly left the classroom before I could be further interrogated by my classmates. I took out my uneaten onigiri and began to eat it on my way to my destination.
Despite being a brand new student, I was able to find my destination with little to no problem. The signs around the school and the giant map of the school's layout in the first floor made it relatively easy to find the Student Council Office.
I stood in front of the unassuming doors, about to knock on the doors before I stopped myself. Even though thirteen months had passed since I was reincarnated, I had never met Sera's younger sister in-person before. I remember briefly seeing Sona in the stadium during my impromptu match with Sirzechs. But other than that, I had no personal interaction with her. Should I treat her as the Student Council President or as family? I guess she technically is my sister, though just thinking about it made me feel weird on the inside.
Plus, I didn't want anyone in Sona's Peerage to be scared of me like I was some kind of monster. I had thought that my match had been severely censored due to those old devil coots wanting to cover the fact that I had wounded Sirzechs in the first place. But I could tell that Rias knew what happened considering I chopped off her older brother's arm, and Sona was there in-person. It wouldn't surprise me Sona's Peerage treated me as some kind of high-level threat right off the bat.
Which is why I should make a good first impression so that we can all get along. I pushed the sliding doors apart and my jaw nearly dropped.
The Student Council Office was nothing like I had imagined. The inside resembled the interior of a mansion rather than a regular classroom. The walls were made out of expensive-looking wood and the furniture was beautifully crafted to fit in with the color of the walls. A chandelier hung from the center of the room and shone brilliantly despite it only holding candles.
Yup. I still can't get over the fact that Devils love to show off their wealth.
"Ah, welcome!" a male voice greeted. He was sitting behind a desk and sifting through a stack of papers. "Is there anything I can-waaaaaah!"
The short-haired blond boy, Genshirou Saji, fell out of his chair as soon as he saw me. His eyes widened in fear and his limbs flailed around before he finally got up and ran away from me.
"President! We have a visitor!" Saji screamed.
I heard several audible groans from the other Council members. I slowly walked further into the room to see the rest of Sona's Peerage.
"Saji, can you not cause any drama for the rest of the day?" Sona sighed tiredly. "If you're causing so much commotion over nothing, I'm going to-"
Sona almost dropped the papers in her hands, but she managed not to, choosing instead to place them onto her desk with shaky hands.
"Y-you're Ichigo…" Sona whispered with a shaky breath.
"Yo." I greeted with a wave. I wasn't going to let the fact that the entire Student Council looked at me like I was some kind of hideous monster get to me. "Just wanted to drop by and say hi and meet you all."
"Of course. We knew you were going to show up eventually, considering this is your first day at Kuoh Academy," Sona said after regaining her composure. She briefly adjusted her glasses. "Now, why exactly are you here?"
"Well, I wanted to start off on good terms with everyone, seeing how I'm Sera's Queen and attending this school," I started.
"I see. But there is one thing bothering me to no end," Sona reached over her desk and pulled out a manilla folder. "Ichigo Kurosaki. Aged sixteen. Currently attending Kuoh Academy as of today. Despite sharing the same last name as a local family-owned clinic, you are not related with them in any way. As far as anyone knows, you have no family at all. No mother, father, nothing."
After reading what was apparently my profile, she set the folder down and slowly walked up to me.
"For many years, I have tried to break away from my elder sister's constant coddling. I've fought for so long until I finally got my chance by attending this school. So why, after all this time, did she send you here?" Sona softly demanded. Her voice was controlled and even, but I could sense a hint of annoyance and anger in her voice. Sona was tired of being constantly babied by Sera, and when she finally thought that she had grown independent from her, I showed up.
"Whoa! I'm not here to babysit you," I replied quickly. "In fact, Sera made me promise not to interfere in any of our businesses. Unless it's a matter of life or death, I'm under strict orders to stay out of your way at all times."
This seemed to calm Sera and the Student Council down. Hearing that Sera had actually thought ahead and ordered me to not meddle in Sona's affairs too much was good news to her. But I could tell that there was something else bothering her.
"That's good to hear," Sona sighed in relief. "But why Kuoh? With your entrance exam results, there are surely more schools you could have attended. While I believe you chose this school because both I and Rias are students here and due to my sister's meddling, surely you have another motive."
"Thats-" Sera was always telling me how smart Sona was. The bookish look of an uptight Student Council President wasn't just for show. She had looked right through me and knew I was here for another reason besides finishing high school.
"I can't tell you."
"Now listen here-"
"I really can't!" I interrupted before Sona could say anything else. "My assignment is really classified. Only the Four Great Satans know what I'm doing. But I promise again not to meddle in your affairs as much as I can."
Sona continued to give me a dirty glare, but eventually tore her gaze away. "If you say so. For now, I will take your word on your purpose for attending this school. Just know that if you try anything else in my territory-"
"President!" Sona's Queen, Tsubaki, hissed.
Tsubaki's words seemed to snap Sona out of whatever mood she was in before. Her face became slightly flushed and she cleared her throat.
"Apologies. Just be sure not to overstep your boundaries. Even if we are technically family." Sona finished.
A soft chuckle escaped my lips as I waved my hand. "Don't worry about it. It's nice to finally meet you in person, Sona."
As soon as the orange-haired teen left the room, every member of Sona's Peerage sighed out in relief. Even Sona couldn't help but slump back into her chair tiredly.
"That...was really nerve-wracking." Saji groaned. "I nearly had a heart-attack when I saw him walk through the front door like that. Just knowing that he was attending this school today made me jumpy all day."
"Still, he was nothing like how I imagined," Momo commented. "He seemed...normal. Too normal in fact. I know he's a Reincarnated Devil and all, but I barely even sensed any magical power from him. It's kinda hard to believe that he cut off Sirzechs' arm."
"That's because he is heavily suppressing his power," Sona explained, causing her Peerage to look at her. "I can never forget that feeling of being suffocated and crushed when he began to fight. Though he did lose, his blade managed to reach Sirzechs. And that mask…"
Sona quickly shook her head to dismiss her thoughts. Ever since she witnessed Ichigo fight, that terrifying mask managed to pop up in her dreams from time to time. It constantly tormented her and threatened to devour her. She was now scared to go to sleep out of the fear of seeing that mask again.
"Mask?" Tsubaki asked.
"Forget it," Sona said. She hadn't told her Peerage about Ichigo's mask, and she had no plans to. "Make no mistake. While that man may seem like any ordinary teenager, he is very powerful. There is a reason why he is classified as an Ultimate-Class Devil. It is in all of your best interests not to associate with him at all."
"Achoo!"
I rubbed my nose as I finished placing the last box into my room. "Guess I should dust this room once I have more time."
Opening the box I had just carried revealed piles of papers and folders. I grabbed the first folder and opened it to reveal a kind of dossier complete with photos and summaries.
The first assignment Sera gave me: protect Kuoh Academy from any kind of threat. Just like when I was a Substitute Shinigami, I had to go around killing any rogue Demons or other threats as part of my daily routine. I didn't mind it too much. It's what I was used to doing before.
The second assignment was a bit more...troubling. I had to keep tabs on Issei to make sure his powers didn't go berserk and threaten the entire world. If it did come to that, it was my job to kill him before he could do so.
I really hoped it wouldn't come to that. The last thing I wanted to do was kill anybody. But if whatever I was fighting was going to endanger the world, then there was only one thing I could do to protect as many people as I could.
My ears suddenly began to ring as I felt the sudden fluctuation of magic in the air. I put aside the folder I was holding and closed my eyes.
"Guess it's time to go to work."
I imagined myself wearing my Shinigami robes over my school uniform and Zangetsu was on my back.
I opened my eyes after a few seconds and I was now standing in my room wearing my shihakusho. If there was one thing I liked about being reincarnated as a Devil, it was that it granted me some new abilities. Since Sera knew about my past life as a human, she gave me the ability to freely switch between my physical body and my Shinigami one. This gave me more flexibility on when and where I could fight now that I didn't have my Substitute Shinigami Badge with me.
"This is really convenient. Guess I should thank Sera again for this."
The full moon in the night sky practically illuminated the outside world before like a second sun. I opened the window in my room and jumped out, landing on a nearby roof to focus on the wildly fluctuating magical power I had felt before. It came from somewhere in the west, and this thing was starting to go wild like it was fighting something.
"Better hurry before someone gets hurt."
I jumped from my spot to the next roof and then to the next until I was practically flying through the air to get to my destination. A sudden explosion followed by a building's roof flying off in the distance only pushed me to go even faster.
Not long after the building's roof came flying off, a large arachnid monster was tossed up into the air by an unknown force. It's upper body above its waist still looked somewhat humanoid female, though her chest was out for the entire world to see. Below her waist was a spider's body, complete with eight legs. I gripped Zangetsu's handle and drew it. The airborne demon got closer and closer, and I raised my blade above me.
"Hrah!"
In one swing, the monster was cut in half down its body. It couldn't even let out a wail of death before its body completely evaporated into dust. Landing onto the ruined warehouse where the thing once hid in, I casually propped Zangetsu onto my shoulder.
"Think I went overboard for a moment. Gotta remember to hold myself back more so that I don't affect the Human World too much. I barely felt Zangetsu go through that thing." I mumbled to myself. Sera and Sirzechs constantly nagged me about holding back my powers whenever I visited the Human World. If I let my spiritual pressure run too wild, the entire world could be affected.
"Ahem!"
I turned around towards the voice. Peering up at me and giving me an annoyed look was none other than Rias Gremory and her Peerage. Already I could feel a headache beginning to form.
Up until this point, I had never met Rias in person. The only times she was ever mentioned to me was when Sirzechs wouldn't shut up about her. Seriously, that guy's a major siscon. But now I understand why she was considered an idol in Kuoh. Her looks alone could give any supermodel in the world a run for their money.
Still, when I heard that Sirzechs had a younger sister, I expected someone like a spoiled brat or a ruler that exuded power like him. But the girl before me seemed so...ordinary. Sure, I could sense a ton of power coming from her and she does have the Power of Destruction in her arsenal, not to mention her above-average Peerage. I didn't see the girl of a highly exalted demon family. I saw a regular girl trying her best to act the part of a daughter of the Gremorys.
"Just what do you think you are doing, trespassing on someone's territory?" Rias demanded. "Being a member of a Demon Lord's Peerage does not grant you permission to roam around as you please. As a member of the Gremory Family, prepare to face the consequences!"
"Ah, sorry about that. I thought your territory was the school, not this warehouse," I apologized. "I rushed over here to kill that demon cuz it was an emergency request."
"Hey! I don't care if you're the person that fought the President's brother or whatnot! No one talks to the President with disrespect!" an angered voice shouted out. I glanced over to see Issei stomping over to me. There was a red gauntlet on his left arm with a shining green orb. I knew right away that this was the Boosted Gear that everyone was talking about.
But if this was the Sacred Gear that caused havoc and destruction throughout its lifespan, why did I sense barely any magical power coming from it? It was almost like Issei was wearing a fake replica instead of the real thing. And the last thing I really needed right now was to fight one of my classmates over a misunderstanding.
"Wait, is that the Boosted Gear?" I asked aloud, pointing to Issei. "I can barely sense any kind of power from it, much less a dragon! Did Sera give me the wrong info or something?"
"What was that!?" Issei angrily growled. Rias suddenly stopped him from coming any closer to me.
"Very well then. I shall let you off just for tonight. But know this. Even though you may get along with my brother, that relationship means nothing to me. The next time you trespass in my territory, I will not let you off so easily!" Rias demanded at me.
All I could muster up in me was a tired sigh. "Yeah yeah. I really don't know where this territory of yours starts or ends. I was only tasked to keep this city safe from anything too serious anyways. Why don't you draw lines or something so that I can know where to not go next time?"
I leaped off the roof I was standing on and soared through the air towards my apartment. I needed to go to bed early to wake up on time for school after all.
Once the orange-haired teen was finally out of sight, Rias slapped Issei across his face, much to his and the rest of her Peerage's surprise.
"P-President?" Issei quietly asked, his hand over the spot where Rias slapped him.
"Issei!" Asia exclaimed with worry. "President, why did you slap Issei!?"
"What were you thinking!?" Rias shouted. "Provoking him like that!"
"Huh? What did I do wrong?" Issei asked in confusion. He couldn't think of anything that he could've possibly done wrong to anger Rias this much. This was the first time he saw her looking so angry.
"You still don't get it, Partner?" Ddraig suddenly spoke from his body.
"What're you talking about?" Issei asked confusedly.
"That man. Ichigo Kurosaki if I remember correctly. He was able to take on Sirzechs himself and bring him to his knees," Akeno explained.
"So what if he's strong? He disrespected the President and trespassed in her territory!" Issei argued. "Killing that devil was our responsibility, and he just-"
"Listen up!" Ddraig shouted. Issei gasped at his Sacred Gear's sudden shout. "That man is an Ultimate-Class Devil. Even though he was suppressing his power when he fought that devil, his power was so great that I could feel it affecting this entire world. And that was just the instant when he cut that monster down. He's on a completely different dimension compared to you or anyone here."
"He is?" Issei looked to his friends for confirmation, and saw that they all had grim looks on their faces. Even Rias looked deadly serious, her hands balled up into fists.
"President…" Issei mouthed. Rias was sweating profusely and her legs were shaking.
"The next time you see him, run away as far away as you can," Ddraig warned. "Though, you might be dead before you can get two feet anyways. Just some food for thought, Partner."
"An Ultimate-Class Devil..." Issei mumbled to himself. "That guy's at the level I want to reach one day. Is the difference in our powers really that far apart?"
"Achoo!"
I sniffed and wiped my nose with my sleeve. "Can devils catch colds, or is someone talking behind my back?"
I landed in front of my apartment door and stretched my joints. After a satisfying pop from my shoulder, I reached out and grabbed the door's handle before I stopped myself.
The metal stairs behind me creaked and groaned, indicating that someone was climbing up the floors. Normally, I wouldn't be alarmed by this. It's not like I was the only resident in this building. Besides, normal humans can't see me in my Shinigami form.
But this was different. The air became thick with some kind of heavy pressure. It wasn't as suffocating as when Sirzechs revealed his true power, but my instincts as a devil warned me to prepare for a fight.
"The least you guys could've done was wait for me until I got back instead of lurking around," I groaned as I faced the duo behind me. "Plus, how haven't you been caught carrying those dangerous weapons around?"
Both girls wore the signature white cloak of The Church. One girl had chin-length blue hair with a streak of green down the middle. The most noticeable thing wasn't her hair, but the large broadsword she carried on her back. It was completely wrapped in a white cloth similar to Zangetsu.
The other girl seemed to be the complete opposite of the blue-haired girl. Her violet eyes gleamed with energy and her brown hair was tied into twin pigtails in a similar fashion to Sera's hairstyle. There was no visible weapon I could see on her, but I had no doubt that she had some kind of hidden blade under that enormous robe of hers.
"As if we would give a filthy devil proper courtesy." the green-haired girl spat out.
"It is only through direct orders that your life as a disgusting creature is spared!" the pigtailed girl cheerfully explained. "So for now, it is only through the grace of God that you are still breathing! Amen!"
"So, what does The Church and two wielders of Excalibur want with me?" I asked.
