DISCLAIMER: I do not own Henry Danger
PART FIVE
Four Years Later
Henry stepped into his and Charlotte's new apartment. Boxes were still piled up, waiting to either be emptied or disposed of. The two of them moved into their first apartment just over a week ago, a week after graduating from college. They had moved back to Swellview after Henry got a job as a community athletic coach, going into schools and providing sports education. A day later, Charlotte was offered the job of support worker at an education charity. Life was pretty good for Charlotte and Henry.
Life had been good for the past four years; Henry at De Loughrey and Charlotte at Harvard. They saw each other on weekends and school breaks. Both somehow also juggled jobs as well, Henry working in the same hotel chain he did in his gap year, and Charlotte tutoring high school students in math. It was a busy four years but they made it work, as well as seeing Piper, Jasper & Ellie, and their families.
'Char?' Henry called out as he walked further into their new apartment. Ahead of them was another night of unpacking boxes. How was it that they had so much stuff? Henry opened the fridge door. It had nothing in it except take away containers. Leftover Chinese was on the menu for tonight. A thunk from the bathroom made Henry look up.
'Char?' he called out for a second time. They had only been at their new jobs a few days so didn't know each other's schedules yet. The bathroom door opened and Charlotte walked out. She had a look of shock and confusion on her face. 'What's up?' asked Henry. Charlotte handed him something. 'What's this?'
'A pregnancy test' said Charlotte.
'Hmm?'
'A pregnancy test.'
'Hmm?' Henry's eyes were getting wider. It was like the time Charlotte told him he wasn't graduating high school.
'Stop that' said Charlotte, irritated by it.
'You're pregnant?'
'Apparently' said Charlotte.
'What do you mean apparently?' asked Henry. 'We were careful. We've always been careful.'
'Do you remember Jackson's graduation party?' asked Charlotte.
'Barely' said Henry, thinking back to their friend's graduation party roughly a month ago. It had been a big party and they both had drunk more than they normally did. The effect was that they must have forgotten to use protection.
'I think that's when it happened' said Charlotte. She took the pregnancy test from Henry and showed it to him. On a tiny screen it said 3 - 4 weeks.
'You're 3 weeks pregnant' said Henry, still dumbfounded.
'Roughly. It might be a bit longer because of how they calculate it based on your last period.'
'What?' Henry was so confused.
'It doesn't matter,' said Charlotte. 'What matters is that we're barely out of college and I'm pregnant!'
'Well, technically we were both still in college when you got pregnant' said Henry, instantly regretting it at the look Charlotte was giving him.
'Not helping!' cried Charlotte.
'Sorry. Sorry' said Henry. He looked at her, seriously. 'You're pregnant' he said again. She nodded. 'We're having a baby' he said, his voice full of emotion. Charlotte nodded again. She felt tears begin to form.
'What are we going to do?' she asked quietly. Henry stepped forward and wrapped his arms around his girlfriend (and baby).
'I don't know,' he said. 'But it'll be OK.'
Later that night Charlotte was standing in the bathroom, in front of the mirror, staring at her reflection. Charlotte didn't know what to do or think. This morning, everything had been normal. She and Henry had been two normal 23-year-olds, in their first jobs out of college, in their first apartment together. In the space of an hour, their lives had taken a 180 turn.
It had been a colleague at work asking if Charlotte had any pads or tampons with her. Charlotte searched her bag, couldn't find anything, to then stop and think about when her last period had been. It had been before graduation.
Standing in the bathroom, Charlotte pulled back her top a little bit and ran a hand over her lower stomach. No bump had formed yet, but it was only a matter of time before it started growing. What would she look like pregnant, thought Charlotte. How would her body change? The body she worked hard to keep fit and healthy.
She turned around and saw Henry standing in the doorway.
'What?' she asked.
'Marry me' he said.
'Hmm?'
'Marry me.'
Charlotte looked at her boyfriend slightly aghast.
'No.'
'Hmm?'
'No.'
'Why not?'
'Hen, you're only asking because I'm pregnant.'
'That's not true.'
'Yes it is.'
'No' said Henry, forcefully.
'So if I wasn't pregnant, you wouldn't be proposing?' Henry tried to figure out what to say. 'Thought so' said Charlotte and she barged her way past Henry into the living room.
'I'm not asking you to marry me because of the baby, Char' said Henry. Charlotte turned to face her boyfriend. 'Though I admit it may have sped things up a little bit.' He walked around the sofa and stood in front of Charlotte. I was planning on proposing in August. Our anniversary,' he added. Charlotte looked at Henry, unsure what to say. 'I asked because you're the love of my life and I don't want to just be your boyfriend anymore. I want to be your husband, get to introduce you as my wife.' Charlotte giggled. 'I want to marry you because you always know how to make me smile, because of that look you give me when I tell bad jokes but you still laugh anyway. You challenge me and inspire me and make me want to be a better man Char. The best man I can be for you and our family.' Henry gently placed a hand on Charlotte's stomach. She glanced down and placed her hand on top of his.
'So, Charlotte Grace Page, will you marry me?' Henry held up a ring; a thin gold band with a single diamond.
'Where did you get that?' she asked, slightly dumbfounded he even had a ring.
'Bottom drawer of my nightstand' said Henry.
With tears in her eyes, Charlotte leaned forward and kissed Henry.
'Is that a yes?' he asked. She still hadn't given him an answer.
'Yes' she said, and Henry's face burst into a huge smile. He placed the ring on Charlotte's finger and kissed her passionately.
'I love you so much,' he said quietly.
'I love you too,' she replied.
Hope you guys enjoyed reading. I hadn't originally planned on posting this but I changed my mind.
