Chapter 13

Taking a sip of her latte as she studies the files that she'd been sent, Charlie takes a moment to simply enjoy the moment. Her father had been right, there was far more money in consulting, and using her father's contacts she had managed to get a job as a medical correspondent on a major network. Joining a private practice had also helped her bottom line and was the only reason she could afford such a nice apartment in one of the more expensive areas of New York.

Still—Charlie glances up and looks around her apartment, noting how bare everything was she can't help but frown. Her apartment was relatively empty, sure she had the essentials, a couch and a television and kitchen supplies, but there were also boxes everywhere. She hadn't finished unpacking since she'd moved in here nearly a year and a half ago. She didn't have any pictures up, there were no knick knacks, or books all over the place. If anything her entire apartment was in a constant state of flux, it either looked like she was packing for a move, or that she had just moved in.

Maybe she should actually start unpacking the rest of her things, it had been a year and a half and her world hadn't come crashing down from underneath her. She was doing well professionally, she was doing well financially, and she had made new friends. Sure her romantic life was non-existent, but it wasn't her fault that Santana had just ghosted her.

Charlie's lips curl in annoyance as she thinks about her soulmate, she had tried everything to keep her mind off Santana over the past two years, but it had been just that two years. Longer since she'd actually been intimate with anyone, Santana was the reason her sex-life was non-existent. It was one thing to have a one-night stand when you had no idea who your soulmate was, but ever since she had realized she had been aging the idea of having a soulmate had kept her from scratching that itch. Finding out that Santana was her soulmate—she really had no idea why she hadn't just gone back to her usual one night stands, but she had been busy and the thought of seeing a look of disappointment on Santana's face—

Charlie inhales and tosses her tablet onto her kitchen island and rubs her temples. She wasn't going to spend the rest of eternity sexless, and taking the day and finding a willing partner seemed exactly like what the doctor ordered. She picks up her phone ready to redownload her hookup app when her phone begins to ring and she groans when she sees the name Dr. Anderson appear on the top of her screen. With a sigh she answers the call, "Blaine, I'm not on call today," she reminds him bluntly. It was far too early in the morning to be dealing with his pettiness.

'I'm not calling about that Charlie—uh have a—look you need to get to work, you have a visitor.'

"A visitor? Tell them to come back in the afternoon, I wasn't planning to come in until midday," Charlie reminded him in a bored tone. She was going to enjoy her breakfast, maybe take a long soothing bath and pamper her body and mind before heading to the office.

'She says she's your soulmate,' Blaine whispered, turning to look at the raven-haired woman who was sitting in Charlie's office tapping her foot impatiently. Charlie had never mentioned that her soulmate was Dr. Santana Lopez, if they could get her to join their practice he was sure that they could increase business.

"Is there a short loud, narcissistic woman in my office right now?" Charlie questions gritting her teeth.

'Uh—'

Charlie pinched the bridge of her nose, "Is Dr. Lopez sitting in my office right now?" Charlie asks, deciding to get straight to the point.

'Yes—wait you know that she's your soulmate? But you haven't aged in two years.'

Charlie ignored him for a moment, "Have security escort her from the building," Charlie informed him.

'It's—'

"Blaine, I know who it is and yes she's an excellent surgeon, but Santana Lopez bullied me throughout my entire residency, she then proceeded to stalk me to my new job where her presence tormented me. When I had my bout with the yips and anxiety, she made me feel like absolute shit about myself, and when I went to thank her she ghosted me. She doesn't get a million and one chances, so tell her to go fuck herself and get the fuck out of my office." Charlie doesn't wait for a response, she just ends the call and grips her phone hard. It had been two years, what the fuck was Santana doing trying to worm back into her life?

Not that it mattered, she was going to download a hookup app and move on with her life. Santana Lopez be damned.

~ O ~

Santana tilted her head and looked up at Dr. Blaine Anderson as he reentered Charlie's office, from the look of disappointment on his face, Charlie was still very much upset with her. But this time she wasn't going to just back down, not this time. If what Mercedes had told her was to be believed, then she and Charlie would have figured it out already. "I know that she's upset with me. And I imagine she told you to have security escort me from her office, there's no need for that. Let me write her a note telling her where I'll be for the next couple of weeks, and I'll swing by tomorrow when she's actually in. If you could pencil me in for a consultation that would be great." She said as she got up.

Blaine hesitated, personally he was glad that he didn't have to call security. The last thing that they needed was drama, "I can talk to her if you want."

Santana shook her head, with Charlie's feelings on the matter, she might lash out or simply duck out and she didn't want Charlie to throw another tantrum. "It's best if you stay out of it if you want to keep Charlie employed." Santana explained, as she found a pen and sticky note on Charlie's desk and wrote her soulmate a simple message. She'd be back and she'd keep coming back until Charlie realized that this time she wasn't going anywhere.
