"I want it on the record that I'm only here because I think this is perhaps one of your worst ideas mom. I do agree that Charlie is being needlessly stubborn about this, but she does have a right to feel the way she does. She worked every single holiday for seven years, because of Santana. She's just finally getting to a healthy weight and getting her finances in order. Santana did a number on her and the moment Charlie's ready to set that aside, Santana ghosts her." Quinn sighed as she followed her mother. She loved her wife, she loved her parents, but she had no idea why Rachel thought it would be a good idea to goad Judy into interfering with Charlie's life.

"Your objection has been noted Quinn," Judy informed her daughter with a shake of her head as she looked around the hallway before finally spotting the apartment in question. "Personally if you disprove so much, I would think that you wouldn't be here, so you could claim plausible deniability."

"Please, Charlie's never going to believe that I didn't know anything about it. This has Rachel's hands written all over it. I'm just here to make sure that this doesn't end in a disaster. Because this has disaster written all over it," Quinn insists.

Judy rolled her eyes, and shot her daughter a look. "You're only here because you're curious about this Santana person, and want to give your stamp of approval or disapproval."

"I know what she did to Charlie, I know that I don't like her. I'm just willing to tolerate her because at the end of the day they're probably going to end up together and somehow I'll be the one babysitting their obnoxious children," Quinn grumbled.

Judy rolled her eyes once more, as she knocked on the door, getting into the building had been rather easy. All she had needed to do was wait until someone was entering and follow right behind them. At least it was a nice building, even if the security was lax. "Quinn—"

The door to the apartment swings open, and both Fabray's turn to see Santana staring at Quinn. She tilts her head, and pauses for a moment. "Huh, I didn't know she had an identical twin." Santana stated, she really didn't know much about her soulmate.

Judy looked over at Quinn, her daughters were identical, sure they carried themselves differently, she couldn't stop Charlie from slouching despite her many attempts to do so but while she could always tell her girls apart most others couldn't. Rachel had been able to tell immediately and it was clear that Santana was Charlie's soulmate. "How could you tell?"

Santana shrugged her shoulders, "Is Charlie okay?"

"I imagine so, she's not exactly aware that we're here," Quinn muttered under her breath.

Judy immediately extended her hand and flashed Santana a smile, it didn't quite meet her eyes as she was intent on finding a flaw that could justify Charlie's reaction to her soulmate. She had heard the stories but the way Charlie described Santana it was hard to believe that this short woman was a fire breathing dragon. "Judy Fabray, I'm Charlie's mother."

Santana hesitated for a moment, "Doctor—Santana, just Santana," she says, taking Judy's hand and giving it a firm shake.

"I know, my daughter has spent over a decade talking about you," Judy explains. "That's actually why I came, I was eager to meet the woman who is my youngest daughter's fated one. I honestly have no idea why Quinn tagged along."

"Mom."

"Quinn dear. It's not as if I don't understand why Charlie's upset. But I want Charlie to be happy, she certainly deserves that, and right now she isn't happy. I need to know if this relationship is worth salvaging, because you know what it's like being with your soulmate. Even if your father gets on my nerves at times, and we argue, there is no one I trust more than him, and I love him deeply. He makes me happy in the way Rachel makes you happy and Charlie deserves that."

"I—I treated your daughter very poorly. It got worse when I realized she was aging and I thought that she had found her mate. I know that it isn't an excuse but when you've been alive for over two hundred years it just kind of hurts to see everyone getting to meet and have families with their fated ones," Santana licks her lips. "That's not an excuse, nothing can excuse what I did. It's an explanation and even in my ears it sounds awful. I was supposed to be helping her but instead I just bullied her. Despite my best efforts, your daughter is a brilliant surgeon."

Judy didn't say anything immediately instead taking a moment to look around Santana's apartment, she finally turned to look at Santana. Charlie had never mentioned Santana was over two hundred years old. It wasn't an excuse but Santana's reactions suddenly made sense. "Charlie doesn't know how to be on time, she's gotten better at it over the years, but she has always been late."

Santana flashed Judy a small sad smile, "I understand that you're here for Charlie, but I need to walk a tightrope. Charlie needs space to figure out how she feels about me, and I need to respect that while still trying to earn her forgiveness."

"Are you apologizing for abandoning her as well?" Quinn asks, crossing her arms over her chest. "Charlie was ready to seal the deal only to find out that you had abandoned her."

"I was trying to give Charlie what she wanted, at the time she didn't want anything to do with me. She was planning on leaving, and I didn't know when I would see her again, I thought it was what she wanted," Santana said defensively. "Being near her hurts, being alone knowing that your soulmate wants nothing to do with you?"

"I mean can you really blame her—"

"Quinn," Judy snapped. Her voice caused Quinn to stop and look at her. She flashes a smile at her daughter before turning to Santana, "I do admit that I do have an ulterior motive in coming to see you. Charlie swears you're the best cardiac surgeon in the country."

"I've been doing this for over a hundred years, I just have more practical experience than most other surgeons, and I keep refining my skills," Santana admits, for the first time in her life being humble. She wanted Charlie's family to like her.

Judy smiled, it looked like she had managed to kill two birds with one stone, at least if Santana agreed to her plan. Her daughter was hurting, and she was angry and approaching her while she was still stewing in that anger was a recipe for disaster. But Charlie would hurt more if her father dropped dead from a heart attack. "Well I have an idea that might help you win her over. Or at least get her calm enough to talk so you two can hash things out."

Santana paused, she wasn't quite sure if she should be weary of doing what Judy asked. The last thing she needed was for Charlie to get mad at her for manipulating the situation. "Let's hear this idea of yours, but I reserve the right to refuse it if I think it veers close into manipulating her."

Judy smiled, Santana would make a fantastic mate for her daughter. Judy turns to Quinn, "Quinn, I'm going to need a few moments alone with Santana."

Quinn shook her head, "Mom I honestly don't think—"

"Lucy," Judy said firmly, causing Quinn to scowl at the name. "Just a few moments."

"Fine." Quinn grumbled leaving the apartment and closing the door.

Judy waits for a moment before turning to look at Santana, "Even as angry as she is with you, she always insists that you're the best surgeon she's ever worked with. That's why—her father—my mate needs a bypass surgery—"

"I'll do it," Santana interrupts. "But we're not going to tell Charlie that I was the surgeon. I don't want her to feel indebted to me. I've been alive for so long if I have to wait another hundred years for Charlie to forgive me then so be it. I'm going to need to see his file and figure out which hospital in this town I still have my hospital privileges for."
