Chapter 16: Virmire

Sentry Omega, Hoc System, Virmire

Yang

The trip to Virmire was all too quick for Yang, who had started training as soon as the last mission was over. Liara's mentorship was great, and she even said Yang was a natural. Yang just figured it was probably because of her aura control, having already used that for years, biotics didn't feel too much different and she was able to learn in leaps and bounds what took other humans months or years. But the energy it required was a lot, and with the fighting, albeit not very intense for Yang given where she came from, was tiring her out.

A brief sleep after loading up on food and water, she was woken when Joker announced they'd arrive at the planet. Her shoulders relaxed as Shepard called out the mission team to deactivate some defence towers. The Commander took with her, Tali, Kaidan, Garrus, and Ingersoll to solely act as the driver. It gave the rest of them time to suit up and get ready for whatever might be waiting for them if Shepard called for aid.

Making sure her armour was air tight, her shotgun and newly gifted pistol had plenty of ammo, Yang took out the ammo for her gauntlets and looked at them. No more use, not on this mission anyway. She was getting low on her reserves that she carried with her, but she did have a plan to get more. Tali was the genius on the ship, at least to Yang, who had given the Quarian a couple of her gauntlet shotgun shells to study and hopefully replicate. But that would take time, so for now she went without.

"Prepare for disembarking, Shepard reached the Salarians, we're landing close by." Joker said over the intercom.

Yang was about to put her helmet on when Wrex gave her a small push. "Air's breathable kid. I'd still take it outside if a firefight happens. But like you said, that aura or whatever you got might help."

Smiling up at the giant creature, Yang nodded. "Thanks Wrex."

"Emhm." The Krogan answered as they felt the ship touch down a moment later.

Yang followed Wrex out, the second from inside to touch the ground, or water they were having to walk through. Damn, these are airtight. Can't even feel the water. Looking around, she could see cliff faces all around, palm-like trees and other greenery growing mostly above, but also from the cracks or flat areas of the cliffs.

"Beautiful place isn't it?" Liara asked as she walked by.

"Ah, yeah, it really is. It's been a while since I've been able to hear the beach in the distance too. Back home and in Vale, it was pretty easy to see and not far to go and you'd hear it." Her smile faded as she recalled home.

"Maybe you can find a new home on one of the human colonies, or their homeworld. I'm sure they have lots of beach properties." Liara said as she tried to lighten Yang's mood.

"Maybe… but let's go find Shepard. I really want to know what we're doing here and if we're fighting." Giving an excited, toothy grin, Yang and Liara made their way towards where the rest of the ground team members were gathering.

"That is a repetition of our task. I lost half my men investigating this place." A green skin toned Salarian said, sounding more than a smidge frustrated.

"So what have you found?" Kaidan asked, which is what everyone was really after.

"Saren's base of operations. He's set up a research facility here, but it's crawling with geth and very well fortified." Yang smirked and looked at Tali and then Wrex, she knew those two would be helping Shepard. Wrex was a powerhouse and Tali was their Geth expert.

"Is he here? Have you seen him?" Shepard asked quickly, an urgentness to her voice.

"No. But his geth are everywhere, and we've intercepted some comms referring to Saren. This is his facility, there's no doubt about that." There was a mixture of feelings for Shepard and some of the crew who were really hoping to find and end Saren.

"You said research facility. What's Saren been researching?" Shepard asked.

"He's using the facility to breed an army of Krogan." The Salarian answered. Immediately Wrex stepped forward while Yang thought that Saren's work was actually, good.

"How is that possible?" Wrex questioned, moving to the front of the group and right next to Shepard.

"Apparently, Saren has discovered a cure for the genophage." The Salarian sounded disappointed, and worried.

A cure for the genophage. Yang hadn't been there long, but given her specific background readings, she had gotten a bit of knowledge about how the Krogan people were a people who had been on the decline over a millennia.

"The Geth are bad enough. But an army of Krogan… he'd be almost unstoppable." Shepard commented.

"Exactly my thoughts. We must ensure that this facility and its secrets are destroyed." The Salarian declared.

"Destroyed? I don't think so. Our people are dying. This cure can save them." Wrex argued.

"If that cure leaves this planet, the Krogan will become unstoppable. We can't make the same mistake again." The Salarian responded, with Wrex stepping towards him.

"We are not a mistake!" He growled, walking away thereafter.

As Yang and a few of the others watched Wrex go, the Salarian spoke again. "Is he going to be a problem? We already have enough angry Krogan to deal with."

"He'll be fine, I'll go talk with him." Shepard answered.

"Appreciated, Commander. My men and I need to rethink our plan of attack. Can you give us some time?"

"Go ahead, Captain. I'll be back soon."

As the Salarian went off to talk with his men, Shepard turned to look over her own subordinates. Yang looked at her, figuring that surely Shepard wouldn't just destroy the cure for Wrex's people.

"Looks like things are a bit of a mess." Kaidan said.

"Yeah. I wouldn't be so worried if it wasn't for Wrex. He looks like he's going to blow a gasket." Ashley added.

"Can't blame him." Yang interrupted. "That guy said Saren found a cure for his people, people that are dying out. You really think you'd destroy a cure if humanity was going extinct?"

"Shut up. Don't pretend like you know anything, Yang." Ashley snapped.

"Enough! I will go talk to Wrex." Shepard looked to Yang and then at Ashley. "Yang, you stay here, Ashley, be ready… just in case." Just in case simply couldn't happen.

Yang's lilac eyes widened and turned a blazing red for just a moment as her adrenaline started kicking in. Her eye colour caught Shepard's attention who reached for her pistol slowly.

"Touch it, and I promise you and Ash will be in the hospital before you even know what happened." Yang threatened, her blood boiling while the three humans plus Liara looked at her.

To her credit, Shepard moved her hand away from the weapon and stared right back at Yang. "I guess there are things you're still hiding. Got a few more tricks up your sleeves?" Yang didn't smile, didn't say a word. She was ready to launch if anyone tried anything. "Ash, stay here and let me deal with Wrex." She gave one more look at Yang before turning and making her way over to Wrex.

Yang's eyes eventually turned back to lilac as she watched from a distance, completely ignoring Ash who stood between her and the direction of the two having their conversation. She didn't care though, Ash was nothing to her, weak, frail, in the way. Don't fuck this up Shepard, or you'll be just like Ironwood.

Shepard

Shepard knew approaching an agitated Krogan alone was a dangerous thing to do, even if one knew the Krogan. Wrex was intelligent, strong, gifted in biotics too. She was sure he'd be able to take her down one on one, but she hoped he'd see reason.

Stopping just a couple of metres away from Wrex, she wondered how to begin reasoning with him before he started it for her. "This isn't right, Shepard. If there's a cure for the genophage, we can't destroy it."

"I understand you're upset. But we both know Saren's the enemy here. He's the one you should be angry with."

"Really? Saren created a cure for my people. You want to destroy it. Help me out here, Shepard. The lines between friend and foe are getting a little blurry from where I stand." Wrex had a point there, as did Yang. If it was human lives at stake, would she be able to allow the cure's destruction?

"This isn't a cure, it's a weapon. And if Saren is allowed to use it, you won't be around to reap the benefits. None of us will." Shepard said, truly believing the vision she saw was a warning.

"That's a chance we should be willing to take. This is the fate of my entire people we're talking about!" His face came just centimetres from Shepard's. "I've been loyal to you so far. Hell, you did more for me than my family ever did. But if I'm going to keep following you, I need to know we're doing it for the right reasons." As Wrex finished, he suddenly drew his shotgun and Shepard answered by doing the same.

Sweat ran down her neck as she felt her finger on the trigger. She didn't want to pull it, didn't want to have a real fight with Wrex. He was a friend and she hoped he saw her in the same light.

"Wrex," Shepard lowered her shotgun, holding it at her side, making herself vulnerable to him. "These Krogan are not your people. They're slaves of Saren. Tools. Is that what you want for them?" Wrex kept his eyes fixed on her, but Shepard could see he was still thinking about how to act. "What I saw in the beacon from Eden Prime, what the cipher helped me to see. It was blood and gore, flesh and machine. The Reapers, Saren, they want to use the Krogan, please."

"No." Wrex answered in a low, sorrowful tone. "We were tools for the Council once. To thank us for wiping out the Rachni, they neutered us all. I doubt Saren will be as generous." Although it seemed they were in agreement, he still left his weapon pointed at her for a few more seconds before holstering it. "Alright Shepard. You've made your point. I don't like this, but I trust you enough to follow your lead. Just one thing. When we find Saren, I want his head."

Shepard smiled and holstered her weapon, then as Wrex looked away, she moved forwards, pressing against his large form, trying to hug him. He was indeed massive, and her arms couldn't go around. "Wrex… if we get time while we're in there, I'll have Tali search the databases for anything that might help create a true cure." Feeling a large hand patting her back, she slowly moved away and looked up.

"Good, because tools can be useful in making finer, more refined creations." There wasn't a smile, but Shepard could swear there was a softness to his voice. "Get going, I'm sure that stupid Salarian is waiting for you." He rumbled, turning back to look at the water that led up to the wall before them.

"All right, Wrex. But you're coming with me on this one. If we have to fight Krogan, I want you by my side." He didn't answer her though, and Shepard returned to find Captain Kirrahe.

Yang

Once she had seen Shepard embrace Wrex, Yang's grim and serious expression softened and she turned her back on Ash. Walking away, she'd find Tali and hang out with her before Shepard gathered everyone for a briefing about the mission.

"Captain Kirrahe has come up with a plan to distract our enemy. Three teams will attack the front of the facility while a fourth team led by myself will infiltrate from the rear and secure a place to deploy a nuke that will wipe out the facility." Shepard seemed fairly confident with the plan, and Captain Kirrahe nodded in agreement. "Kaidan, you'll go with the Normandy and prep the nuke. Once the site is secure I'll radio for Joker to come in and deliver the payload."

"Roger that Commander." Kaidan answered.

All Yang could think about was the bomb Ironwood had tried to deploy into the giant Grimm whale, and then again as he threatened to use it against the people of Mantle if Yang and her team didn't turn themselves in.

"Williams, Maulden, Ingersoll. You three are going to be joining the three diversion teams under Captain Kirrahe's direct command." Shepard then announced.

"Apologies, Commander. But I only need the one." Kirrahe said.

"I remember, but I feel like your teams will all be more effective with three of my finest soldiers." She put a hand on Kirrahe's shoulder. "Suicide missions aren't really my thing." Turning back to her crew, she scanned them. "My squad will be called Shadow, and I'll be taking… Wrex, Tali, Liara, Garrus." Her eyes lingered on Yang, remembering how her eyes blazed red. She still couldn't trust the girl completely, but it was better to keep an eye on her. "Yang too."

"Once the payload is set, the three assault teams will need to pull back out of the blast range. There is a lot of danger here, as the Geth and Krogan defending Saren's facility could pursue our retreat. There is a chance that none of us will survive." Captain Kirrahe added, looking over the three humans.

Yang did the same, looking at them and realising the conviction in their eyes. She didn't like two of them, but she couldn't help but respect them for accepting even though their lives were on the line. Like hunters, they work and fight to keep others safe. Even if their lives are at risk.

"Master Sergeant Ingersoll, you will be with team Aegohr and myself. Second Lieutenant Maulden, you'll be with team Mannovai. Gunnery Chief Williams, you will be with team Jaeto." Captain Kirrahe said, with all three saluting the Captain.

With the teams decided, Kirrahe called his soldiers over too. He started speaking, a speech of encouragement that Yang found entertaining and effective, her own adrenaline pumping as she was about to go on her most vital mission in this new galaxy. Standing next to Tali and Liara, she would whisper to them as Captain Kirrahe spoke about holding the line.

"If things get bad, hide behind me or use me as cover. I can take more of their shots than either of you."

"A human shield?" Tali asked while Yang just grinned.

"You've already taken one large blast for me, Yang. I cannot allow you to take another." Liara whispered back.

"That's what friends do right?" She looked at them both before Captain Kirrahe finished up with his speech and Shepard ordered them on their way.

Being told she should have a weapon out at all times, Yang opted for the pistol she had on her. Garrus and Shepard led the way with Wrex close behind. She along with Tali and Liara came up last, all prepared for a fight.

Yang caught herself looking around her group. There were only two humans amongst it, Shepard and herself. The rest were all aliens, much more different than any Faunus on Remnant. Yet they were all working together and following Shepard's lead. If only the Faunus and humans could get along on Remnant. Salem wouldn't stand a chance.

"Commander, if you see any way to undermine their defences, we could definitely use the help." Captain Kirrahe said over the comms.

"Copy that, Captain. Shadow, keep alert. We're now a part of something that could end Saren's plans." Everyone nodded, even Yang.

It wasn't long until Shepard relayed that the other teams had come under attack, diverting the Geth and Krogan towards them. Though they too quickly found Geth protecting the direction they were coming from. Geth troopers, rocket drones, and even a couple of Krogan were encountered along their path. Gunfire erupting for in minute intervals at a time as Shadow team dealt with every foe they encountered.

She watched as Tali worked on a console and asked what was happening. Tali just informed her that she was disabling the Geth's communications and triangulation frequencies. So they are programmed like robots?… Penny. She thought, recalling the virus that rocked her and caused a lot of trouble.

Proceeding on and finding a kind of refuelling station where many of the flying drones were, Shadow took the fight to them too. Causing the fuel tanks to explode with some electronic skills, Yang watched with fire reflecting in her eyes, two massive explosions that took out a majority of the drones and damaged the others. Cleaning them up, Shepard once more ordered them forwards and soon the base itself came into view. Dealing with a couple of charging Krogan, a Geth Destroyer and a few smaller Geth troopers, the team made their way into the first layer of Saren's base.

Coming onto and crossing a somewhat pointless bridge, at least to Yang, the team would come to a single console with a door on either side. She had gotten used to what the red colours on the doors meant. Locked and requiring some sort of hacking, which is when Shepard had Tali take a look at the console.

"We've got access to base security. We can cut the alarms from here. Maybe even trigger alarms on the far side of the base." Tali informed the group while Garrus watched further along the bridge. "It'll clear the guards out for us, but they might be too much for the Salarian teams to handle."

"They're already risking a lot. Let's fight what's inside Shepard." Yang said.

"Yeah, I'm still mad, smashing Geth and killing things sounds like fun." Wrex said, agreeing to leave the Salarians with what they were currently dealing with.

"Like they said, Tali. Disable the alarms, but prepare for more combat than we encountered on our way here." She said.

The doors unlocked and Shepard ordered them to split up and enter two of the doors. The first in each were Yang and Wrex, both of whom fell under fire immediately. Connecting against her shields, Yang felt the bullets connecting. Engaging in a fight from range was odd for her, so she moved closer and drew her shotgun instead.

Explosions from grenades and rockets sounded off, crates were blown open or apart, the floor and walls marked with scorch marks big and small. Dodging a charging Destroyer, Yang started to strike it with her fists, quickly denting and putting it off balance before she saw its faceplate shatter. Checked behind her, she could see Garrus with a rifle point over her way. So he doesn't dislike me then. Though that was little proof, people could still hate one another while fighting an enemy together.

The fight continued on, but when Salarians started reinforcing the Geth, Yang pulled her punches. At least until they started shooting at her too. Advancing to knock them down, she was surprised to see them get riddled with bullets and their clothing turn green.

"What the hell! Those were Salarians!" She yelled while the rest were put down.

"Stay alert!" Shepard commanded, walking to Yang and squaring up with her. "Anyone who fires at my people gets filled with holes."

"Shepard, Juggernaut ahead." Garrus warned.

"Tali, Garrus, prepare to take down its shields. Liara, you and I are going to hit it with biotics. Wrex, Yang, dismantle it." Shepard ordered with a grin.

When the Geth Juggernaut rounded and locked onto them, it only got one round off before it was assaulted in multiple ways. Shields were depleted swiftly and then it was lifted and thrown against a wall. As it got to its feet there was a human Krogan charge that damaged both it and the wall. Then it was lit up with bullets before falling to the ground a beaten and broken mess.

"That was supposed to be fun." Wrex grumbled, kicking the weapon from its grasp.

"You could always shoot it." Yang offered, to which Wrex grinned and did just that, blasting a hole in its synthetic chest.

"Enough you two, we've got a bomb to plan and the quicker we do it the less likely the Salarians are to loose many lives." That was a quick way to get Yang to refocus and she fell in behind Garrus.

There was a voice that called to them as they ran through another room, making Yang take a look, spotting prisoners in cells. Salarians! They're alive too. She went to jump over the side when a hand grabbed her.

"I can't afford you getting injured through foolish actions. We'll find a way down." Shepard said.

"I've fallen from higher, you guys find a way around, I'll get the cells open so we can leave quicker." This time as she moved to vault over the side, Shepard didn't stop her. She landed with ease and took her helmet off for the prisoners to see what she was. A brief exchange of gunfire erupted back up top which made her pause for a moment. They're fine, there's five of them. She thought and stepped towards the cell.

"Well, you're not a Geth. And you're not wearing a lab coat. I guess I'm glad to see you." The Salarian said while Yang tried to get the door open. "Lieutenant Ganto Imness of the Third Infiltration Regiment, captured during recon. I assume the fleet was called in to destroy the base?"

"Yeah… about that. Just one ship." It was embarrassing for her to say, but so far the plan the Captain and Commander made was working.

"I see. Then you must be the infiltration team. I know the captain. He will want this facility destroyed. My team was altered, indoctrinated. He knew about the breeding ground. But the indoctrination is a greater threat, and far more horrifying. I watched good people reduced to mindless husks. There wasn't anything left. Others died during the experiments. I envy them." Husks, she had heard and seen husks. She wondered if he was being serious about the transformations, or just that they weren't themselves anymore.

"Indoctrination…" The word sounded familiar, but where had she- The White Fang!

The door behind her opened and turning with her shotgun, Yang found the rest of her team finally arriving. Moving aside to let Shepard open the door, she mentioned they were being indoctrinated, though given their age she thought that was impossible, or at least terribly difficult.

Shepard took over questioning of the captured soldier, but she let him and the rest out of their cells and expressed that they should make a run for it given the nuke would soon be going off. Some of them just stood there, a few others ran. It perplexed Yang, but what they were saying gave her cold sweats.

"Let's move on, we can't do anything more for this lot." Shepard said, leading the group away from the free yet stationary Salarians.

It wasn't long until they came across more cells, more tortured and troubled Salarians. Tali did mention that something wasn't right with them, though all Yang could sense was that they had been tortured and wanted out. Shepard for her part, had them let out and Yang went to offer a helping hand to one of them but it went for a gun at its side. That's not a prisoner. She realised, recalling what Lieutenant Ganto said about indoctrination. Disarming the Salarian, she knocked him out cold and removed the gun while the others put more bullets in the other indoctrinated captives.

"How… like, how?" Yang asked, feeling guilty and sick.

"I don't know. But whatever it is, we need to destroy however they're doing this too." Shepard said.

There was a complete consensus about destroying the indoctrination facility, and they were beginning to piece together how Saren was controlling the cured Krogan.

"They are just tools… Shepard-" Wrex started.

"Forget it Wrex, we didn't know." Yang saw the brief touch of Shepard's hand on Wrex's forearm before they returned to the elevator and descended.

What they found gave all save Shepard pause. There were husks on machines, not impaled on spikes like they had seen before. They were being examined, right up until Shepard shot one through the head. A collective groan escaped its brethren as the machines stopped and the husks rushed forwards.

It was easy to deal with husks, and given there were so many of them Yang just stood at the front with Wrex, blasting any that came too close with her shotgun. There was return fire though, and Yang spotted both a Krogan and an Asari. Indoctrination… does that mean they are too? She wouldn't get to ask them as they were both laid out on the floor within seconds, flood pouring from their multiple bullet holes.

"Scum, helping to make your own people into tools." Wrex spat, kicking the dead Krogan once. "Alright, I'm done." He grumbled.

Yang wouldn't say a word. Wrex had been in a foul mood learning about the breeding and the cure, now it was just to make them into tools. It was beyond cruel what hope Wrex had been given a glimpse of. At least his fighting prowess hadn't deteriorated though, as when they left the husk room and made their way along another pathway in the sunlight, he tore through a couple of Geth units much like how she could.

Feeling a bit giddy at the thought of going toe to toe with Wrex sometime, Yang laid down cover fire with her pistol. Tali and Liara were there to give her pointers, since a lot of her shots did miss her targets. She knew they'd be making her do target practice later.

Entering indoors yet again, Shepard and Wrex pointed their weapons at a table where Yang got a glimpse of blue before hearing a panicked voice. "Don't shoot! Please."

"Raise your hands." Shepard ordered, the Asari before them obeyed quickly.

"I just want to get out of here before it's too late."

"Who are you?" Shepard sounded angry.

"Rana Thanoptis, neurospecialist. But this job isn't worth dying over. Or worse." Rana replied. "You think the indoctrination only effects prisoners? Sooner or later, Saren will want to dissect my brain too!"

"You're helping Saren?" Shepard gazed at Wrex who bared his teeth. "Give us one good reason why we shouldn't kill you?"

"I… I can help you! This elevator behind me goes to Saren's private lab. I can get you in." Without waiting for Shepard's answer, the woman went over to the elevator which had a red glow to it. Waving a card, it turned green. "See? Full access. All of Saren's private files. Are we good? Can I go?"

"First, what were you studying here?" Shepard wanted to know, so too did Yang. She had been given a second chance in this galaxy, she needed more information about this threat, this cycle.

"It's that ship, Sovereign. It emits some kind of… signal. Undetectable, but it's there. I've seen the effects. Saren uses it to influence his followers, to control them. It's called indoctrination. Direct exposure to the signal turns you into a mindless slave, like the Salarian test subjects. But there's collateral damage too." Rana explained.

"Go on, you're doing great." Shepard mocked.

"Sovereign's signal is too strong. Spend too much time near the ship and you feel it. Like a tingle at the back of your skull. It's like a whisper you can't quite hear. You're compelled to do things but you don't know why. You just obey. Eventually, you just stop thinking for yourself. My first test subject, for example, was the man I replaced."

"So why research it? If Saren controls it, why waste time on it?" Shepard questioned. Yang was just listening, finding it difficult to believe that one could lose their free will just by whispers. If anything, it sounded more terrifying than fighting any Grimm.

"The signal comes from the ship. It makes us obey Saren, but I don't think he controls it. Not exactly. I think… he's scared it might be affecting him." Yang looked to Tali and then Liara, the latter of which was looking at the ground with a sad expression on her face.

Putting a hand on Liara's back, Yang gave a smile. Figuring Liara wasn't liking the sound of indoctrination either, she wanted to do what little she could here to help erase any fear. For both of them.

Listening to Shepard and Rana, she was surprised that Shepard let the scientist go. Wrex and Garrus both voiced their desire to shoot her, before the woman ran from the building.

"Heh, the look on her face." Wrex hummed.

"I just hope she stays away from this kind of research." Garrus added, rolling his neck.

Shepard led them on, weapons at the ready at all times. Going through the door Rana opened for them, they made their way along and to an elevator before getting to Saren's private lab.

The room itself was dark, with the lights only dimly lighting the areas around themselves. Yang had seen labs before, and this certainly didn't fit with her experiences. A grated floor and paths on a decline, a singular one in the centre that ended with nothing to work at, only to oversee what looked like a metallic beam with engravings. There was a greenish glow to it too and it drew Yang's full attention.

"Shepard, is that what I think it is?" Wrex asked.

Shepard went to the edge with him and Yang. "Yeah, it's another beacon. Just like the one on Eden Prime. Wrex, Liara, by my side. Garrus, Yang, watch the door." Shepard commanded.

Yang would reluctantly go and watch the door with Garrus, giving him a smile from within her helmet. Keeping an eye on Shepard too, she saw as the Commander seemed to activate the beacon as it started glowing green, illuminating about half the room in its light. Suddenly Shepard was floating in the air, her hair being blown back like a strong wind was blowing.

"Shepard!" Yang called, but Wrex held a hand up.

"She'll be fine. Happened on Eden Prime, apparently." Wrex didn't sound too confident in his claim, but it was enough to keep Yang at the top of the room.

Shepard wasn't levitating for long, clattering back to the ground and falling to her hands and knees. Yang could hear a gasp for air, though Shepard was already moving. Wrex helped her back to her feet and they, along with Liara, seemed to be saying something. What the hell was that about? Levitating should be something less… normal. Even on her world, levitating wasn't normal unless you had access to a certain kind of Dust.

"It was another vision, the warning. It was… clearer this time." Shepard held a hand to her forehead and looked to be in pain. "Let's get going, we got something extra, that'll be en-

"Shepard. Behind you." Garrus said, pointing to what Yang quickly saw were glowing redlights, only they weren't lights at all, not physical ones anyway.

"A hologram." Liara pointed out, her fascination only growing as more red light began to glow, merging into what looked like a large crustacean in appearance.

"I get the feeling something bad is about to happen." Tali voiced from her side of the group.

What came from the hologram, was a deep and robotic voice that resonated with each of them.

"You are not Saren."
