Chapter 5
Bonnie met up with Koehler and Twigg who were trying to find the amory.
Koehler busted the door open to the cell block.
Bonnie let out a breath shaking her head lightly as she followed Koehler and Twigg down the stairs.
"This isn't the armory." Twigg complained as he turned to go, but Koehler had stopped him spotting Jack in the cell.
"Well, well ... Look what we have here, Twigg. It's Captain Sparrow." Koehler said, looking at Jack with narrowed eyes.
Bonnie slowed as she looked at Jack with wide eyes. She hadn't expected to see him there.
"Huh. Last time I saw you, you were all alone with your screaming daughter on a God-forsaken island, shrinking into the distance. I'd heard you'd gotten off, but I didn't believe it."
"Did you sprout little wings and fly away?"
"His fortunes aren't improved much."
The two men laughed but Jack didn't laugh.
He stepped forward close to the bars. His anger rose as he saw Bonnie standing there with the two muntious members of his former crew. He had never wished for what had happened to her to happen. She had been away from him for 10 years and she hadn't changed a day. "Worry about your own fortunes. The lowest circle of hell is reserved for betrayers ... and mutineers."
Neither man liked the idea of hearing what Jack had said.
Koehler lashed out grabbing Jack by the throat through the bars.
Jack clutched at the wrist of Koehler and looked down where they had entered the bars in the moonlight; they were nothing but a skeleton. Jack's eyes went wide realizing he was holding a skeleton arm. "You are cursed."
Koehler sneered, shoving Jack backwards hard.
Jack started realizing that the stories he had heard were true and Bonnie was part of it. "The stories are true."
Koehler pushed Twigg towards the door before looking back to where Bonnie stood. "You know nothing of hell."
Then they left him alone with Bonnie.
"Bonnie…" Jack said softly, looking at her with wide eyes.
Bonnie took a soft breath. "You look well Jack with all things considered." She said softly, her voice cracking a little as tears filled her eyes.
"I never…"
Bonnie held up her hand. "I know Jack… were is she?"
"Who?"
"Morgan, where is our daughter?"
"Somewhere around her in town… they didn't catch her because she doesn't have a mark on her arm…"
Bonnie took a shaky breath before slowly backing to the stairs and then slowly walking up the stairs to leave the jail. Her hand went up to the chain that was around her neck taking a shaky breath until she decided to go back to the pearl. She needed to meet back up with the Captain.
PIRATES
Lit by lanterns, no moon was visible beneath the fog, and smoke hung heavily across the deck.
Elizabeth's longboat was raised above the deck rail and the pirates spotted her and stared.
One polite fellow stepped forward to offer his hand to her.
She took his hand and stepped down. She huddled, self conscious in her nightgown and dressing robe.
"I didn't know we was taking captives." Bosun said, looking at Pintel and Ragetti.
"She's invoked the right of parlay... with Captain Barbossa." Pintel explained to Bosun.
Bonnie took a breath as she looked up at the wheel seeing Barbossa turn his head.
Barbossa moved towards the stairs. A cloud of smoke obscured him and walked down the stairs and strided out of the smoke onto the main deck.
Elizabeth looked more terrified than ever, but she could not look away from his eyes. She mustered up her courage knowing what she needed to do. "I am here to -"
Bosun slapped her, almost knocking her down. "You'll speak when spoken to!"
Bonnie's breath hitched in her throat as she watched Barbossa grip Bosun's wrist painfully in his hand.
"And you'll not lay a hand on those under the protection of parlay!" Barbossa said looking at Bosun like he was something on the bottom of his shoe.
"Aye, sir."
Barbossa released him before turning to the young woman. He smiled showing both gold and silver teeth in his mouth. "My apologies, miss. As you were saying, before you were so rudely interrupted?"
"Captain Barbossa ... I have come to negotiate the cessation of hostilities against Port Royal."
Barbossa looked at her rather impressed and amused.
Bonnie pursed her lips together as she watched the young woman plead her case.
"There was a lot of long words in there, miss, and we're not but humble pirates. What is it you want?"
"I want you to leave. And never come back."
Barbossa and his men laughed.
Bonnie remained silent, gripping her hands tightly at her sides.
"I am disinclined to acquiesce to your request. Means 'No.'"
"Very well." She quickly slipped the medallion off and darted to the side of the rail, dangling it over the side of the ship.
The pirates went silent.
"I'll drop it!"
"My hands are bursting with swag. That bit of shine matters to me. Why?"
"Because it's what you're searching for. You've been searching for it for years. I recognize this ship. I saw it eight years ago, when we made the crossing from England."
"Did you, now?"
Elizabeth glared at him. She wasn't getting anywhere with them. "Fine. I suppose if this is worthless, there's no reason to keep it." She flipped the medallion up and off her finger.
"NO!"
Elizabeth caught it by the chain and smiled at him triumphantly.
"You have a name, missy?"
"Elizabeth -" She stopped herself from saying Swann. "Turner. I'm a maid in the governor's household." She curtsied to Barbossa.
Barbossa reacted to the name Turner and it confirmed what he had suspected of the young woman.
The other pirates surreptitiously exchanged glances and they nodded.
"You've got sand for a maid."
She curtsied again. "Thank you, sir."
"And how does a maid come to own a trinket such as that? A family heirloom, perhaps?"
"Of course." Her face screwed up in offense. "I didn't steal it, if that's what you mean."
"No, no, nothing like that." Barbossa then made up his mind. "Very well. You hand that over, we'll put your town to our rudder and ne'er return."
"Can I trust you?"
Bonnie pursed her lips together knowing that it was not going to be wise to trust Barbossa. Not since what he had done to her husband and daughter.
"It's you who invoked the parlay! Believe me, Miss, you'd best hand it over, now ... or these be the last friendly words you'll hear!"
Elizabeth hesitated for a moment, but she had no choice. She held out the medallion.
Barbossa quickly snatched it from her and clutched it in his fist like now he had hope.
"Our bargain..?"
Barbossa grinned devilishly and then nodded to Bosun.
"Still the guns, and stow 'em! Signal the men, set the flags, and make good to clear port!"Bosun ordered.
For the first time since the attack had begun on the Port, the booming of the guns has ceased.
Elizabeth was surprised and relieved that it was over.
The pirates around them hustled to follow the orders that were given.
Barbossa snapped his fingers and Bonnie went to his side before turning away from Elizabeth.
"Wait! You must return me to shore! According to the rules of the Order of the Brethren -"
Barbossa turned sharply on her, narrowing his eyes. "First. Your return to shore was not part of our negotiations nor our agreement, and so I 'must' do nothing. Secondly: you must be a pirate for the pirate's code to apply. And you're not. And thirdly ... the code is more what you'd call guidelines than actual rules." He grinned at her. "Welcome aboard the Black Pearl, Miss Turner."
Elizabeth stared at him in speechless horror.
The Black Pearl turned back on into the seat.
"Oy girl follow me." Bonnie snapped at the young woman causing her to jump.
Elizabeth slowly followed Bonnie along the deck to the captain's cabin. "Don't hurt me…" Elizabeth said softly.
Bonnie scoffed a bit, before shaking her head. "Girl I'm not gonna hurt you. But you need to realize that you got yourself into a whole lotta danger." Bonnie said, opening the door.
Elizabeth sputtered a little in shock in surprise that the woman wasn't going to hurt her. But what probably shocked her more was that there was a female pirate. "Who… who are you?"
Bonnie let out a soft laugh turning to Elizabeth. "Name's Bonnie Sparrow."
"Sparrow? Captain Jack Sparrow?"
Bonnie looked down, gripping the chain around her neck. "Aye… that would be me husband."
"And that girl that he was traveling with… Morgan… she's your…"
"Daughter." Bonnie looked up at the young woman. "But yer can't tell Captain Barbossa that she's still alive…" She said, spatting out Captain like it was a disease.
Elizabeth swallowed the lump in her throat nodding her head slowly. She wasn't about to tell that Captain anything. Now Bonnie was confirming stuff that she didn't know. She could only hope that she would be fine on the ship without being caught up in danger.
