Chapter 14

Around Barbossa was a group of pirates, Elizabeth was among them, standing still as stones, in front of a dark cave opening. Their faces looked upward, their total lack of movement was disconcerting.

Above the cave, on the hillock, the pirate Koehler gazed out towards the horizon. Slowly he transformed, head-to-toe from pirate to skeleton.

The moon had climbed free of the storm clouds, rising large and full on the horizon.

The skeleton turned. "Moonrise, Captain! First night of full."

"Hah!" Barbossa turned to his crew. "Be mindful of pits and crevasses. Stay together." He took a torch and moved into the cave.

The pirates followed their captain.

The group kept together under the firelight. The path leads between boulders on a slope downhill. From the echoes and shadows, it was very clear that the cave system was huge.

Elizabeth glanced over, the torches illuminating the caverns off to the side, and just the edge of a mound of coins. Clearly there was more, but the rest was lost in the darkness.

Twigg, gazed upward in wonder, and moved a few feet away from the group.

Barbossa grabbed him as her neared a chasm. "Careful, mate. Fall down there, you'd die and miss Judgement Day - for not even the Lord himself'll come look for you here." Barbossa released him and moved on, descending down, twisting and turning, but always down.

Bonnie let out a breath and followed Barbossa shaking her head lightly knowing that Twigg almost got himself killed once the curse would be lifted.

PIRATES

Cotton pulled a sail line, and looked out seeing something. He lifted his parrot off of his shoulder and stroked it along the back.

"Land HO! Land HO! LAND ho! LAND ho!"

Will moved quickly standing up excited and jumped onto the rigging for a better look at the dreaded Isla de Muerta.

Morgan took a deep breath through her teeth as she looked out, her hands gripped tightly at her sides in nervousness.

AnaMaria was at the helm and stared at Cotton and the parrot. "How does he do that?"

"They'll be anchored on the lee side. Haul your wind, and keep to the weather of the island -" Jack said looking at his crew. He slowly moved to his daughter and put his hand on her shoulder.

Morgan looked over at her father.

"I want you to listen to me this time."

Morgan blinked a few times as if her father had gone insane. "No, you can't ask me that."

"Morgan, you listen to me this time. For once please. Barbossa can't know that you're still alive."

Morgan swallowed the lump in her throat slowly looking away knowing that her father was right. Barbossa would willingly kill her if he knew that she was alive because he despised the fact that he wasn't her father and Jack was. Morgan took a soft breath and nodded her head weakly. "Alright." She said softly.

PIRATES

Flickering in the torchlight the pirates stooped low and entered the cavern and revealed the spectacular treasures of Isla de Muerta. Overflowing in chests of coins, gold and silver ingots, jewelry, objects d'art, jade and ivory, brightly colored silks, furniture, jewels and pearls, mirrors and swords, anything and everything that was of value was right there.

The pirates continued moving through, but Elizabeth couldn't help but gaze in wonder.

"The curse drove you to gather this?" Elizabeth blinked a few times in confusion.

"Aye. And not a bit of it any use to us, only hoarded. But it will drive us no longer." Barbossa replied as he continued to move.

Elizabeth paused, staring at herself in a jewel-encrusted mirror and then was pushed along by Bonnie.

"Best keep going lass. No point in looking in a cursed mirror." Bonnie said, moving her along.

Elizabeth took a soft shaky breath as she continued to walk.

PIRATES

Morgan looked out into the water watching the small boat that her father and Will were on. She pursed her lips together knowing that this wasn't easy for her to do. She bit her lower lip before worrying it between her teeth. She watched them disappear into the cave and she moved away from where she stood.

"You have nothing worry about." Gibbs said, looking over at the young woman.

"You know my father, Gibbs. You know what he's like. He's a moron by all trades."

Gibbs let out a breath and nodded his head. He knew exactly what she meant and she probably knew him better than he did. Perhaps he could only hope that Jack wouldn't do anything stupid that would end up hurting his daughter in any way.
