Chapter 19

Norrington gave Elizabeth a hand disembarking from the raised longboat. "Elizabeth, I'm relieved you're safe." His eyes traveled to Morgan holding his hand out to help her as well. He then looked at Jack with narrowed eyes. "Clap him in irons. And behind his back this time."

"Commodore, you can't do that!" Elizabeth said, her eyes going wide.

"You're speaking up for him again?"

"He can locate Isla de Muerta - but I doubt he'll be willing to help us from the brig."

Morgan shifted a bit nervously. She also knew the way to Isla de Muerta.

"We had time to get to know each other." Jack pointed out knowing that she was very much right.

"We are bound for Port Royal, not Isla de Muerta."

"No. The pirates have taken Will -" Elizabeth said, trying to plead her case to Norrington.

"Your father is frantic with worry. Our mission was to rescue you and return home. That is what we shall do. Mr. Turner's fate is regrettable. But so was his decision to engage in piracy."

"Commodore, please!"

"Norrington, think about it ... the Black Pearl, its captain and crew, the last pirate threat in the Caribbean. How can you pass that up?" Jack questioned looking at Norrington.

"By remembering that I serve others, not only myself."

"Commodore, I beg you - please do this ... for me. As a wedding gift."

Morgan took a breath crossing her arms slightly. Her father was trying to talk Norrington into something and Elizabeth was also doing the same. Morgan pursed her lips in silence.

"I understand that you will accept my marriage proposal on the condition I rescue Mr. Turner?"

"Not as a condition - a request."

Norrington considered and then looked to Gillette. "Free Mister Sparrow, and prepare to come about. He'll give you our heading."

Gillette unlocked Jack's manacles.

Jack raised his brow. "Congratulations, sir."

The crew men began to lead Jack towards the bridge.

Sailors went about their tasks, and the ship began to slowly turn.

"Elizabeth, I hereby withdraw my proposal."

"What?" Elizabeth was slightly shocked at what Norrington was saying.

"I know where your heart truly lies." Norrington said softly.

Elizabeth looked at Norrington in a new light. "And now I know ... where yours does, as well."

The two of them gazed at one another for a moment.

Norrington then looked away. "You may seclude yourself in my cabin. I'm afraid we do not have any ladies' clothing aboard."

"Then I can wear men's clothing." Elizabeth stated looking at Norrington.

"That would hardly be proper."

"Well, I am not going to stay hidden in some cabin, or I suppose it's going to be heaving bosoms and bare for the remainder of the voyage!"

Norrington looked exasperated, but then couldn't help but grin. This was why he loved her.

Elizabeth grinned back at him.

"Murtogg, take our guest below, and find her some trousers, and a shirt."

Elizabeth allowed herself to be escorted away from Norrington and Morgan.

Norrington watched her leave and then turned his gaze to the sea.

"You're very kind." Morgan said, leaning against the rail taking a soft breath.

Norrington turned his head to Morgan. "Her heart lies elsewhere."

Morgan nodded her head. "With Will." She admitted softly looking over at him shyly.

"What you did taking a ship…"

"I ended up getting marooned on an island with my father and Elizabeth for a while due to a mistake that was made. I didn't really save her." Morgan shook her head lightly.

"You may be the daughter of a pirate…"

Morgan shrugged her shoulders. "I'm surprised that you didn't lock me in the brig with manacles."

"You're not branded as a pirate."

"There is a reason behind that. I wasn't even around when he was branded… or my mother." She let out a soft breath. "But you are kind enough to be going after Will and saving him." Her lips quivered a little bit as she looked back out to the sea.

Norrington looked at the young woman as the wind blew through her hair. "You were brave to do what you did."

Morgan looked over at him. "It's in my blood I suppose." She admitted softly.

"But you sound like you're not happy with your life."

Morgan let out a breath and turned slightly toward him. "I'm a pirate… and I don't really want to be that." She said softly and shook her head lightly.

"You don't want to be like your father."

"No." She admitted as she shook her head lightly again. "I want something more." She slowly moved away from Norrington and took a soft breath, biting her lower lip softly. She was rather surprised that Norrington was talking to her. Perhaps there was more to him than what she had thought.
