Chapter 21

Torches were lit as Barbossa led Will, who was guarded by Pintel, Bonnie and a band of pirates into the caves.

Bonnie took a breath as she walked slowly knowing that this was probably the last thing that Will would ever remember all because he had to be brave. She hoped that he would take what she said into mind.

They moved deeper into the caves.

Will moved along rather unwillingly.

"No reason to fret. It's just a prick of the finger and a few drops of blood." Pintel said to him with a coy smile.

"Turner's blood doesn't flow pure in his veins." Barbossa said as he walked. "Best play it safe, and spill it all."

Pintel blinked as he looked at Will. "I guess there is a reason to fret."

Bonnie let out a breath as she continued to follow the crew. She warned Will that Barbossa could very much be this way. She of course knew that Will wouldn't make it out of there alive unless some miracle would be performed. And she highly doubted that her husband or daughter was even alive.

Will noticed a crack running between the floor and wall of the cave widening into a ravine.

"Careful, now. You could fall in and still be wonder'n when you'll hit dirt."

Will made his choice quickly. He intentionally stumbled.

Pintel shoved him forward.

Will continue forward, before grabbing a pirate in front of him, swinging him into the wall of the cave. Catching the pirate's torch and using it to ward off the others. "You deserve to be cursed - and remain cursed!" He stepped to one side and dropped into the ravine. The wall of the ravine became a loose gravel slope. Will hit it and tumbled down disappearing into the darkness.

Bonnie let out a breath and pinched the bridge of her nose rather irritated that he would do something like that.

"Blast him! A pox on him, and his father, and the whole damnable line! Fan out! Find him!" Barbossa yelled in frustration.

PIRATES

Morgan laid on the bed resting, with her arm up over her eyes trying to get at least some sort of sleep, but Elizabeth was moving around causing her to slowly sit up.

Elizabeth looked out the Captain's small porthole and saw the boats laden with Navy men headed to the shore. She turned away from the porthold, wishing there was something she could do.

Suddenly there was a flutter at the window. It was Cotton's parrot.

Morgan blinked a few times as she looked at the bird.

"Drink UP me hearties yo ho! Drink UP me hearties yo ho!" The bird said before fluttering away.

Elizabeth raced to the porthole and then the stern window to see it fly away. She looked down and saw that fastened to the stern of the ship was a rowboat.

Morgan let out a breath seeing the look on Elizabeth's face. "Get going." Morgan said slowly getting up to her feet.

"You don't want to go."

Morgan shook her head. "I know where you are going. And I have to be somewhere else."

"Where?"

"Norrington and his team." Morgan said softly looking at Elizabeth.

"What about them?"

"Something doesn't feel right."

Elizabeth nodded her head softly.

"I'll join you in the row boat but I'll swim the rest of the way."

"Alright." She said softly, nodding her head.

PIRATES

Will raced forward, turning this way and that. He saw a light ahead and headed for it. He turned a corner and ran right straight into Jack.

"Do you have any idea where you're going?" Jack questioned looking at Will.

"Jack!"

"Don't talk. These caves magnify sound. Just follow me." Jack led Will out of the narrow passage and stopped staring.

Will was just a few steps behind. "Are you certain this is the right way?"

"It's the right way."

Will joined him and saw what Jack was looking at. Treasure piled upon treasure, sparkling, glowing, and seemingly endless. At the center was a moonlit clearing and the stone Aztec chest.

"Thank you, Jack Sparrow." Barbossa's voice rang out.

The two men jumped, turning, seeing Barbossa standing right behind him flanked by his men.

The two of them turned to run but more pirates emerged from hiding. It was nearly the entire crew of the Black Pearl.

The pirates grabbed Will and Jack.

Will struggled, but Jack didn't fight at all.

"You couldn't have led him back more directly if you knew exactly where you were going." Barbossa laughed and moved towards the stone chest.

The pirates followed, dragging Will and Jack with them.

"You did know where you were going! You did lead us directly to them!" Will's eyes widened as Jack didn't answer him. "Why?"

Jack looked away as Will was manhandled towards the chest.

Barbossa stepped up to him becoming skeletal in the moonlight and put the medallion around Will's neck. "What was begun by blood, let blood now end!" He raised the knife to Will's throat.

"You don't want to be doing that." Jack called out to Barbossa.

Barbossa pretended to think about Jack's words. "No, I really think I do."

Jack shrugged his shoulders. "All right then."

Barbossa paused and he stepped out of the moonlight. "Why don't I want to do this?"

"Because, right about now, the H.M.S. Dauntless is lying in wait in the harbor."

Will eyes widened. "Jack!"

"And its guns and crew will cut you and your men to pieces the moment you step outside these caves."

A buzz of apprehension swept through the pirates.

"Do you believe him?" Pintel questioned looking at Barbossa.

"No." He then indicated to Will. "But him I believe. He is genuinely angry."

"You've no hope of surviving Norrington's attack ... that is, if you're mortal."

"What're you suggesting?"

Jack shook off the hands holding him, strolling towards Barbossa, Will, and the chest of coins. "Simple. Don't kill the boy yet. Wait for a more opportune moment."

Will glared at Jack at every word he said.

Jack scooped up a handful of coins from the chest. Before slowly dropping the coins one by one back into the chest. "Like after you've killed ... Every ... Last ... One ... of Norrington's men."

"I can't help wondering, Jack, why you're being so helpful and all? Last time you did that, it didn't end well for you."

Bonnie pursed her lips as she looked at her husband.

"The situation has changed."

"That so?"

"Aye. See, after you're done with the Royal Navy, you'll have a bit of a problem: the H.M.S. Dauntless. There you'll be, with two lovely ships on your hands, and what to do? Of course you'll decide you deserve the bigger one, and who's to argue? The Dauntless a first-rate ship-of-line, and with it, you can rule the seas. But if you're Captain of the Dauntless, who's left for the Black Pearl?" Jack smiled and spread his hands indicating he should be the captain of the Pearl. "I sail for you as part of your fleet, I give you fifteen percent of my plunder, and you get to introduce yourself at tea parties and brothels as 'Commodore Barbossa.'" He held his hand out. "Do we have an accord?"

Barbossa licked his lips. It was rather tempting.

"Now, you can take care of the Dauntless, right?"

"Men! Are you up for it?"

The men yelled letting Barbossa know that they were willing.

"Mr. Pintel, select five men to stay here. Take the rest of the men out ... not through the caves."

Jack's expression faltered. He hadn't planned for it. "There's ... another exit?"

"Aye, for us there is."

Bonnie pursed her lips softly knowing that Barbossa would want her to stay there in a way to distract her husband.
