Last time: "No, bequeathed. You gave them this. You poured in your personalities, emotions, traits, memories, secrets, everything. You gave them your lives. Human lives are amazing, trust me I should know. Are you seriously surprised they ran off with them?" The Professor said, her eyes narrowing slightly.
"I'll say it again. Isle of Sheppey. Ganger got an electric shock, toddled off, killed his operator right there in his harness. I've seen the photos. This bloke's ear was all hanging-" Buzzer was cut off.
"Even if this has actually happened, they can't remain stable without us plumed into theme, can they boss?" Jimmy asked.
"Guess we'll find out." She answered.
Jennifer clutched her stomach and bent over slightly, "Are you okay? Do you need some water?" Rory asked.
"I feel funny. I need the washroom" Jennifer said walking out the door.
"I'll come with you." Rory said following her out.
Suddenly Dickens sneezed making Amy jump. "Sorry." He apologizes.
"It's ok." Amy says trying to relax.
The Doctor stares at a card tower on the table, "That's me." Buzzer said. "It's good to have a hobby. So what, my Ganger did that all on it's own?" He asked.
"Who taught you to do that?" The Doctor asked.
"My granddad." He answered.
"Well, your Gangers granddad taught him to do it, too. You both have the same childhood memories, just as clear, just as real." The Professor stated.
"No." Buzzer said.
"Scared, disoriented, struggling to come to terms with an entire life in their heads." The Professor said.
"We need to protect ourselves." Jimmy said.
The Professor walked over to the microwave with a meal on a plate and put it in. "Are you a violent man, Jimmy?" She asked.
"No." He answers.
"Then why would the other Jimmy be?" She stated.
"Don't tell me you could eat at a time like this, Professor." Cleaves said, a frown on her face.
"You told me we were out cold for a few minutes when in fact, it was an hour." She said, looking at Cleaves.
"Sorry, I just assumed."
"Well, it's not your fault. Like I said, they're disoriented. Amy when you got to the alcoves, who was in harness?"
"Jimmy and Dickens were helping Buzzer out." She answered.
"Jennifer?"
"She was standing on her own when we got to her." She explained. The microwave dinged and the Professor took the meal out with a towel and handed it to Cleaves. Cleaves just stood there holding the food with a confused expression on her face. A second passed, "It's hot." The Professor stated.
Cleaves gasped and dropped the plate. The Doctor walked over and grabbed her hand gently, "Trans-matter's still a little rubbery. Nerve endings not quite fused properly." He started in a soothing voice.
"What are you talking about?" Cleaves said, yanking her hand away.
"It's okay." He said, slowly.
"Why didn't I feel that?" She asked.
"You will. You'll stabilise." He said, soothingly.
"No stop it. You're playing stupid games. Stop it!" She screamed, turning around.
"You don't have to hide. Please, trust me. I'm the Doctor." He said, calmly.
Cleaves spins around her face half- formed. Buzzer grabbed a knife ready to kill her but Jimmy held him back. "Where's the real Cleaves, you thing? What have you done with her?" Buzzer screamed. The Professor silenced him with a look, and she held down a growl.
The Doctor ignored them, "That's it. Good, you remember. This is early Flesh. The early stages of the technology. So much to learn." He said. bringing a hand up to brush the Ganger Cleaves cheek.
"Doctor what happened to her?" Amy asked.
"She can't stabilise. She's shifting between half-formed and full-formed, for now at least." he answered.
"We are living." G-Cleaves(Ganger Cleaves) said, her voice cracking. Then she started to scream and ran out of the room.
"Let her go." The Doctor said, looking after her.
"Doctor, Rory." Amy said.
"Rory?" He asked.
"Yes, Doctor. Rory!"
"Oh, Rory! Rory! Always with the Rory!" He screamed as she ran out of the room.
He followed her out the Professor, and Jimmy running after him. They ran to the washroom and saw that the mirror was broken and a window to a stall was melted through. "Rory." Amy whispered.
"Of, course, Jennifer' a Ganger too." The Professor said, surveying the room.
"Professor, you said they wouldn't be violent.
"But I did they were scared and angry." She said.
"And early technology is what you said." Jimmy said, pointing to the Doctor. "You both seem to know something about the flesh." He accused.
"Do you?" Amy asked.
"You're not weathermen. Why are you really here?" Jimmy asked, whispering.
"I have to talk to them. I can fix this." The Doctor said, running out of the room.
The Professor sighed, "Thinks he can fix everything." She muttered.
"Wait. What's going on? Where's the real Jennifer?" Jimmy called.
The Professor rolled her eyes, "Do you humans have to put a label on everything." She muttered as she tried to catch up to the Doctor. Jimmy and Amy ran after as well.
The Doctor runs to the corridor and suddenly an acid pipe bursts. Before any can get on him he jumps back, pushing everyone back with him. "It is too dangerous out here with acid leaks!" he screams.
"We have to find Rory." Amy says again.
"Yes. I'm going back to the Tardis." The Professor says. "Wait for me in the din-" She was cut off.
"Uh, no I'm going with you." The Doctor says, not taking no for an answer. The Professor nods. "Alright wait for us in the dining hall. I want us to keep together, okay. No more wandering off." He says.
"What about Rory?" Amy asked.
"Well it would be safer to look for Rory and Jennifer with the Tardis," He says, walking off with the Professor.
Jimmy pulls open a box and smiles, "Here we go. Distress flares."
He closed the box and gasped as he saw the Professor there. He relaxed when he saw it was just her, "Exit?" She asked.
"Keep going straight. Can't miss it. But your never going to get your vehicle in here." Jimmy said.
The Professor beamed at him, "I'm a great parker." The Doctor and the Professor go to the vat of Flesh in the tower, before going to the Tardis. They both scanned it with their screwdriver and then ran out. Two lips then appeared in the vat and said at the same time, "Trust us." However, neither the Doctor nor the Professor noticed.
After visiting the vat of Flesh they walked out to the Professors Tardis but the Professor stopped him, "Doctor there's something going on with Amy."
"I know." He said, remembering what he was working on before the Professor hurdled into his life.
"I don't know exactly what it is, but if my prediction is right..." She paused, looking sad.
The Doctor cupped her cheek, "I know, I thought of it too." She sighed and took his hand in hers.
"Let's go get the Tardis." She said, smiling. He smiled, too and they walked to the spot where they parked it. They could barely see it. They only saw the first top two panels of the door. The Professor frowned, "How did you get down there?" She said, then she heard a sizzling sound. She looked down and saw that the Doctor had stepped in an acid puddle. "Doctor!" She screamed.
He looked down and gasped. He quickly undid his shoelaces, and jumped out of them, running back inside before the Professor could do anything. Luckily the puddle wasn't very big and she didn't step in it. She sighed and looked at her Tardis, "Is it impossible for you to stay out of trouble?" She asked, before running back inside. "Doctor?" SHe calls out.
"Over here!" He calls back. She follows his voice and saw that he had discovered the Gangers. She smiles, "So, how are you all getting on?"
"Why don't you tell us?" G-Cleaves said, looking tired.
"Well, we have two choices. The first is to tear each other apart. Not my favourite. The second is to knuckle down and work together. Try to work out how best we can help you." The Doctor said.
They all agreed to help and the Doctor and the Professor led them out into the corridor, "Now, I know its hard for you to hold your fully human form. That's why you keep shifting between the Flesh stages, but do try. It'll make the others less scared of you." The Doctor explained. Both the timelords didn't notice Cleaves hiding on the stairs listening.
Back at the dining hall, things weren't going well. "Where's Jen? What have you done with her?" Buzzer accused harshly.
"I haven't seen her, I swear. But look, I'm her. I'm just like her. I'm real." G-Jennifer pleaded.
"You're a copy. You're just pretending to be like her." Jimmy stated.
"Woah, don't talk to her like that. She is a person just like us now. Now no more comments about her being a Ganger." Koschei said, glaring at them.
"Jimmy, on, guys. We've worked together for two years ." She said, pleading.
"I worked with Jennifer Lucas, not you." Buzzer said harshly.
A small side conversation went on between Amy and Rory, "We don't know anything about them, Rory." Amy said, quietly.
"Well, I know that she's afraid and she needs our help." Rory countered.
"Okay let's not do anything at all," Amy said. Then the Doctor and Amy speak in unison, "Until the Doctor gets here."
"Hello." The Doctor said waving. The Gangers walked in and looked disbelieving at themselves. Well, all of them except for G-Cleaves.
"This is." Jimmy started.
"You're telling me." G-Jimmy finished.
"Alright, Doctor, you've brought us together. Now what?" G-Cleaves asked. The Professor grimaced, It's like her tone is just forever set in arrogance. She thought.
"Before we do anything, I have one very important question. Has anybody got a pair of shoes I could borrow? Size ten. Although I should warn you, I have very wide feet." The Doctor gesturing to his feet.
There was a pause of awkwardness. However, the Doctor was handed a pair of brown shoes and he put them on. After another second of awkward silence the Doctor cleared his throat, "The Flesh was never merely moss. These are not copies. The storm has hardwired them. They are becoming people." He said sincerely. The Professor smiled at him.
"With souls?" Jimmy asked.
"Rubbish!" Dickens said, sneezing after.
"Bless you. We were all jelly once. Little jelly eggs sitting in goop." The Professor said, amused as every human(or almost human) pulled a face.
"Yeah thanks. Too much information." Amy said.
The Professor spoke again, "We are not talking about an accident that needs to be mopped up. We are talking about sacred life. Do you understand? Good. Now, the Tardis is trapped in an acid pool. Once I can reach her, I can get you all off this island, humans, timelords, and Gangers, eh? How does that sound?" The Professor said, clapping her hands together and smiling brightly. The Doctor had a sort of awed look on his face when he looked at her.
"Can we make it home for Adam's birthday?" Jimmy asked a smile on his face.
"What about me? He's my son, too." G-Jimmy said.
"You? You really think that?" Jimmy said.
"I feel it." G-Jimmy answered, looking to be in awe.
"Oh so you were there when he was born, were you?"
"Yeah. I drank about eight pints of tea, then they told me I had a wee boy and I just burst out laughing. No idea why. I miss home, as much as you." G-Jimmy answered a smile on his face.
"Look, I'm not going to lie to you. It's a right old mess, this. But as you might say up North, oh well, I'll just go to't foot of stairs. Eee by by gum. Or not." The Professor face-palmed. "Good. Right. First step is we get everyone together, then get everyone safe. Then, get everyone out of here." The Doctor said, optimistically.
"But we're still missing Jennifer and Cleaves." Amy said.
"I'll go and look for them." Jimmy said.
"I'll give you a hand, if you like. Cover more ground." The G-Jimmy offered.
"Yeah, okay. Thanks." Jimmy said, the start of a smile on his lips.
Then it all went down hill. "This circus has gone on long enough." Cleaves said, appearing with a device in her hands.
"Oh, great. You see, that is just so typically me." G-Cleaves said, looking annoyed.
"Doctor, tell it to shut up!" Cleaves said harshly.
The Professors eyes glowed gold for a second. Yes she had changed from the person she once was, but she still absolutely loathed people who were cruel to one another. This was one of the reasons why she loathed herself. "Cleaves, stop. Don't be stupid." The Professor said, her eyes narrowing.
"Circuit probe." Cleaves said, gesturing to the device. "Fires about ooo, forty thousand volts? Would kill any of us, so I guess she'll work on Gangers just the same."
"It's interesting you refer to them as it, but you call a glorified cattle prod a she." Koschei said, crossing his arms over his chest.
"When the real people are safely off this island, then I'll talk philosophy over a pint with you, sound good?" She said, making a cruel joke.
"What are you going to do to them?" Amy asked.
"Sorry. They're monsters. Mistakes. They have to be destroyed." Cleaves said. The Professor clenched her fists, not wanting to do anything drastic.
Suddenly the G-Cleaves spoke up, "We always have to take charge, don't we, Miranda. Even when we don't really know what the hell is going on."
Then G-Buzzer ran at Cleaves, the Professor shouted for him to stop but it was too late, Cleaves zapped him with the probe and he dropped dead. The Doctor dropped down next to him, "He's dead."
"We call it decommissioned." Cleaves said.
The Professor was too shocked to do anything. The rage within her was building, but she was frozen in shock.
"You stopped his heart. He had a heart, Aorta, valves, a real human heart. And you stopped it." The Doctor said, his voice filled with anguish, and pain and disbelief. That was it. The Doctor's voice in pain. That broke the resolve left in the Professor's body. No one hurts my Doctor. She thought to her self.
The Professor regained her ability to move and she raised her hand, not hearing what G-Jennifer said. Gold light flooded very fast out of her hand straight at Cleaves. The gold light threw the probe out of Cleaves hand and then went for her neck. Cleaves was too shocked to do anything but right before the Professor could do what she wanted, Koschei spoke up, "Rose, no!" He screamed using her name, knowing it was the only way. "Rose stop! If you do that, you are just as bad as her. Remember who you are now! Not who you were before!" He screamed at her, hoping it was enough. The Professor bared her teeth at Cleaves, but the light slowly retreated until it was nothing but a faint glow in her fingertips. The only thing that remained was her eyes. Her golden eyes, practically swirling with the time vortex.
"Look at what you've done, Cleaves." The Doctor said in his the Oncoming Storm voice even though he was just as surprised at the Professors behavior than anyone else.
Cleaves however, paid no attention to either of them. Even though she was spooked about her encounter with death, she still decided to voice her opinion. "If it's war, then it's war. You don't get it. How can you? It's us and them now. Us and them." Cleaves said, looking for confirmation. Dickens and Jimmy agreed.
The Professor still had her eyes golden, and she walked up to Cleaves until she was close enough to see the fear in her eyes. "If you even so much as harm another person, I will end you faster than you can scream." She said through gritted teeth, not needing to ask for confirmation. Cleaves knew she was telling the truth. The Professor blinked and the gold was gone, replaced by brown eyes. She backed away and walked toward her friends, not able to stand another second in the presence of someone as bad as her. Although there are worse people, The Professors subconscious teased. Like you. She shook her head lightly, trying to rid herself of the thoughts for the time being.
Hello, just want to voice my opinion. Feel free to skip. I just want to say that this is one of my favorite parts of this episode, when Buzzer dies. Of course, I don't like it because he dies, but because of the Doctor's reaction to it. He's so... sad and angry and just so mad that one human being could actually do that to another human being. His voice is just so full of anguish and pain and it just breaks my heart every time. Which is why I wrote the Professor getting really mad at everyone's insensitivity. She knows it hurts the Doctor and she doesn't like him hurt. So yah, my opinion(and a bit of fact). Next chapter should be coming along. MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM ALIREESES, AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR! Enjoy :)
