Chapter 9: The Lost Souls

(Guili Plains)

I slowly walk through the grass, taking in the sights around me.

A full moon shines in the night sky. A beautiful image is portrayed as it's light illuminates the silent, peaceful grasslands. At least, that's how it's supposed to be. Unseen to the naked eye, is a sight so tragic, I can't help but let my tears fall.

What I see here, that no others can, are lost souls. The souls of the abyssal army that was recently laid to waste here. While their bodies may disintegrate upon death, their souls still linger.

As I look around, I can see the lives of every single one of them. From their birth to their death, I can see the memories that have been etched into their souls. I can see it all. The fall of Khaenri'ah, the wrath of the gods, the formation of the abyss, the petty and spite of Celestia, and… so much death.

"These people were ruined by the gods, had their friends and families slaughtered in front of them, and watched as their beautiful nation, that was built from the ground up by their own merit, was mercilessly destroyed by the unjust actions of the gods. They are angry, vengeful, and worst of all, broken. As if they hadn't yet suffered enough, the petty gods of Celestia and their ridiculous Heavenly Principles!"

I close my eyes, and speak, projecting my voice to the souls.

"You people have been wronged. Forced into such a state due to some petty rules that don't matter. In your rightful fury, after having everything you once knew and loved stripped away, your souls became doomed to wandering for eternity, not allowed back into the cycle of reincarnation. After your souls have finally left your bodies, you are supposed to be damned to that hell of an afterlife."

I can sense the emotion running through them. Anger at my being a goddess. Confusion, at my complete dismissal of the Heavenly Principles. And hope that I, a goddess, can understand their plight and change things for the better.

"My name is Ereshkigal, the goddess of Death, and I will allow all of you to reincarnate."

The surprise and joy they felt at my statement was immeasurable.

"Well, here goes nothing!" I think, not actually knowing how I'm supposed to do it.

"May all pass on without regret in their hearts, and sleep, eternally peaceful." I chant my divine ideal, channeling my elemental energy through my voice, and casting my judgement.

"[Border of Life and Death]"

The moment the spell was cast, all the lost souls of Khaenri'ah were set free. I turn to leave, and begin the long walk back to the Parlor, a bright smile on my face.

(The next day)

"Ya know, when I woke up this morning, the last thing I expected to see was the one who turned me into a goddess, the one who rules above the gods and can simply erase all that exists at a moment's notice, the one who created and ruled all that was, all that is, and all that will be, drinking tea with Zhongli in my dining room." I think to myself as I immediately recognize the presence before me.

"And yet, here I am, not even surprised at what should be a world shaking event," I think as I sit down, drinking my tea with tired acceptance.

When I'm finished, I look up and regard the absolute entity before me.

"Why are you here, Paradox?" I ask the now seemingly amused girl.

"You weren't being entertaining enough, so I came down personally to shake things up a bit! You should always be on your toes when it comes to me, though for those against me, it won't matter anyway." she says nonchalantly.

"I figured that was why, watching a daily routine be fulfilled isn't that entertaining."

"Unless it's a montage, those are usually cool."

(Zhongli)

As those two rattle on, I can't help but feel dumbfounded by the paradoxical girl, who is apparently named accordingly. An hour ago, I heard a knock on the door, and when I opened it, imagine my surprise when I saw the one, true ruler of existence at the door, asking if she could come in and have some tea.

{REALLY sorry that this took so long! Especially since it isnt finished! this is like half of the chapter! I'm mostly posting it now to remind people that I am still working on it! December was just so hectic and all over the place that I couldn't do much work on it! Rip. Anyway, consider it a teaser for the comedy that is bound to ensue! When find the time to finish the next part of the chapter, I will be laughing the whole way through! And for those of you who keep asking for fluff, I'm working on it! I'm just not great at it! Lol. anyway, thanks for reading!}
