Chapter 1: "Where am I?"
Back in Sonic's world: Three months after the events of "Sonic and the Power of the Wisps-Alternate Ending"...
Mobius was a beautiful planet where humans and Mobians lived together in peace and harmony. Yet there was one evil doctor who always attempted to take over the world, Dr. Eggman, who once again is causing trouble for yet another evil scheme. But there was also a hero who always got in his way, and that hero is none other than Sonic the Hedgehog, a fifteen year old hedgehog who had foiled his latest plan a few months ago which also cured Sonic from his two month battle of guilt and was now back to his true normal self, thanks to his friends and he vowed to become stronger and more careful.
At this moment, Sonic was chasing after the familiar Egg Mobile that belonged to Eggman who was attempting to get away from him, the vessel holding a container little Mobini animals who were helpless and crying out for help, terrified. The blue hedgehog was determined to rescue them and defeat his enemy once and for all.
They sped through the everglade fields of green hills and dandelions, but while the blue hedgehog would normally admire the scenery, being the lover of nature, he was focused on saving his friends.
"Will you stop foiling my plans, you little pincushion?" The evil scientist growled angrily as he looked over his shoulder, glaring at the young hero of Mobius who glared back.
"Give back those critters, Eggman or I'll make you!" Sonic demanded as he continued to run after them.
"Oh, I'll give you something, hedgehog..." Eggman sneered evilly with a nasty grin, holding up a small remote with a red button, and snarled. "THIS!"
The bottom of the hovercraft opened up, revealing a huge pair of mechanical hands with laser-rockets on top, firing at the teenager who rolled his eyes and easily dodged them without a single scratch and kept running.
"Give me a break. You seriously think that'll slow me down? You're way outta your league, Egghead!" The cobalt hedgehog scoffed with a wide smirk.
Sonic then jumped and went for a Homing Attack to smash his way against the arms that easily broke off and at the back of the Egg Mobile, causing it to lose altitude and control, much to the madman's horror as he screamed and began to panic. The fifteen year old didn't stop there as he then Spin Dashed into the arm that was holding the capsule of trapped animals and quickly back down, landing and easily caught it despite the container being heavy, but he set it onto the ground and cracked it open, letting out the poor traumatized critters who cheered and chattered happily.
"Hey, guys. Don'tcha worry! Everything's okay." Sonic greeted the critters who ran up to him, and hugged him, making him laugh at the ticklish sensation. "Whoa! Take it easy! Ha ha ha!"
"Don't celebrate yet, hedgehog!" Eggman's voice snapped the teenager and the animals back to reality, and when they looked to see, they gasped in shock with their eyes widening, as the evil doctor's Egg Mobile managed to recover, with the man glaring angrily at them. "I'm not through!"
"Ooh, I'm terrified." The blue hedgehog deadpanned, glaring back as he stood protectively in front of the critters who huddled up behind him, frightened. He then said to his enemy seriously. "You're gonna have to try harder to scare me off, Baldy McNosehair!"
"You little...! STOP CALLING ME THAT!" The evil scientist snapped furiously with his face turning as bright red as his suit, pounding the panel on his Egg Mobile.
"What would you rather, then? Ro-butt-nik?" The hero of Mobius taunted with a grin. "I'm kinda starting to miss calling you that, Eggster."
"One of these days, your mouth is going to get you into more trouble that I'll catch you off-guard!" Eggman bellowed.
"Here's a little newsflash, Eggman: You already did that to me five months ago. I'm not letting it happen again!" Sonic retorted.
"Well, too bad, because I've got you this time, and you won't be getting away!" The evil scientist growled and readied to push button, preparing to fire...
Only for Sonic to quickly Homing Attack right into the Egg Mobile and bashed it several times without giving him a chance to say or do anything further. As the mad doctor screamed and panicked with his Mobile now losing power and put out of commission, the cobalt quickster then leaped away just as the familiar sight of the Tornado 1 flew in with Tails at controls, and Sonic smirked with a thumbs up.
While the blue hedgehog landed on the plane, Tails locked on target on Eggman who tried to get away despite knowing that he had lost yet again, before the now nine year old two-tailed fox pushed a button button on the panel. The bottom of the plane behind the propellers opened up and revealed some kind of small cannon that was not in the way or in any danger of taking the plane down, aimed at the giant wolf.
"Target locked on...Rocket away!" The fox cub shouted, pushing the button again. The small cannon fired a small rocket which shot out straight towards the evil scientist who looked too late and screamed in terror.
To his bewilderment and Sonic's surprise, the rocket exploded into dust and was replaced by a huge blue gum-like stuff that spread out and completely covered Eggman and his Mobile, causing it to now lose power and crash onto the ground, becoming stuck.
"Egad...! What is this, giant bubble-gum!? Ugh! I-I'm stuck!" Eggman grunted, trying and failing to free himself.
Sonic let out an impressed whistle, smirking as he couldn't help but joke. "Guess that was a cool sticky situation. When'd you built that, Tails?"
"It's a special blinding gum that can only be washed off by water or rain. I haven't given it a name yet, but I made it in case we had a situation with Eggman's robots. I thought it'd be a good idea to distract him in cause he controlled a giant robot again, but then I thought, why not use it for now and get him while we still can?" The younger Mobian explained sheepishly.
"Well, I'd say it sure came in handy now." The blue hedgehog chuckled with a shrug, laughing as his surrogate little brother landed the plane and he hopped off the wing before approaching his nemesis. He grinned at the sticky situation the unfortunate human was going through. "What's wrong, Eggman? Bubblegum blew up in your face?"
"This isn't over, hedgehog! I've got a back-up plan you won't be expecting!" Eggman growled, only to yelp as he was yanked back into the ground as he tried to stand up.
"Yeah...but that back-up was a back-down." Sonic smirked, folding his arms, just as GUN helicopters flew in and on a motorcycle, Shadow the Hedgehog arrived while soldiers hopped out of the aircrafts and the humans gathered around the evil scientist who gasped in shock and disbelief.
"W-what!? What is this!?" Eggman demanded.
"After everything we've been through, I knew that I couldn't take anymore chances until you learn how to behave yourself and finally give up your stupid taking over the world schemes." Sonic responded, now frowning a little with a sigh. He felt a bit guilty over this, but given how much things had gone through and just two months ago the attack at the Kingdom of Soleanna, plus in Isalenna in Tesrod Village where Eggman attempted to try and gain both the dangerous and evil treasures such as the Scepter of Illusion and the Sun Stone...
He couldn't take any more chances.
"Dr. Eggman." Shadow began as he approached the evil scientist, while hiding an amused smirk over the doctor's sticky predicament. "You are under arrest for treason against all of Mobius, and do not do any funny business...Or I will end your miserable and pathetic life."
The other GUN agents, having been requested by Sonic and his friends since they had been monitoring Eggman for months now just in case and luckily they had figured out what his next plan was. It was simple, Sonic distracts Eggman while he rescues the Mobini while Tails would arrive after shutting down the mad doctor's facilities he had been secretly building, and Knuckles, Amy and even Sun who had arrived earlier would capture Decoe, Bocoe, Bokkun, Orbot and Cubot to make sure they wouldn't help their creator to escape.
"Hope you enjoy your stay in jail, Eggy." The blue hedgehog smirked a litle once more, as the evil man was hand-cuffed and taken to the helicopter.
"I'll be back, Sonic! Just you wait!" Eggman vowed as he was shoved right into the helicopter to be taken away to the GUN HQ, no doubt to be put straight into the tightest security cells.
As Sonic and Tails watched the helicopters go, they and Shadow stayed behind a little as the young cub said happily. "That should keep him busy for a while."
"Yep. Maybe even longer, knowing how stubborn that guy is." The blue hedgehog rubbed his nose, before turning to the Ultimate Lifeform. "Hey, thanks for helping us out, Shadow."
"You should have done this with Dr. Eggman a long time ago. It would've made things less of a headache." The black hedgehog muttered.
Sonic shrugged apologetically. "Yeah, but I had things under control at the time and, well...much as I hate to admit it, I was reckless and overconfident back then. Guess you could say all of the crazy things that's happened in the last five months made me get a reality check."
"More like you didn't realize that the doctor was becoming more dangerous the more you defeat him and let him go." Shadow scoffed.
"Yeah, don't remind me. Learned that the hard way. I just...you know, I was pretty stupid." The teenager admitted, trying to stay cool before smirking. "But it's all the past now. With Egghead in jail, and we all foiled his evil plot before he could even get started on it this time is a way past cool accomplishment, right?"
"And GUN has the highest security, plus with all of his robots smashed or like Decoe, Bocoe and the other dummies Eggman made also in jail, I say we should be fine for a long time to come." Tails added, though for some reason there was a nagging feeling in the back of his mind that something bad and unusual was about to happen.
Even so, the older hedgehog sighed before shaking his head and said. "I suppose you had to learn somehow. I must report back." He then walked away and got onto his bike, about to drive away when Sonic called him back, making Shadow glance over his shoulder.
"Hey, Shadow! If you wanna have a race again, don't hold back!" Sonic called up, winking with a challenging yet excited grin.
Seeing the younger hedgehog back to his true self while at the same time more cautious now, the familiar brightness in the teenager's emerald green eyes once again sparking with life as he had before the Dark Gaia crisis, it made Shadow secretly relieved.
"Hmph. You're a fool to think that I ever will, faker." Shadow smirked in return.
That only made the soon to be sixteen year old smirk. "Just making sure. It'd be boring if you didn't make it any challenging."
"Be careful what you wish for, hedgehog." The Ultimate Lifeform cautioned, before doing a bit of a wheelie and then drove off to head back to HQ, leaving Sonic and Tails on their own with the little critters who, having hidden themselves away from the humans, cautiously approached once they saw that everything was alright now and huddled up around the brotherly duo who noticed and smiled happily.
"All's well that ends well." Sonic declared, bending on one knee and gently patted a Mobini squirrel who loved how the Mobian hedgehog was so brave, kind, caring and gentle.
"Yep! Everybody's here and safe now." Tails agreed as he gave a Mobini micky a stroke on the head.
"We should get these little guys home. They've been through a really rough day." The blue hedgehog decided, chuckling as the Mobinis continued to cheer on for him and his best friend/little brother for saving their lives from Eggman.
The two-tailed fox nodded in agreement, while thinking to himself. 'I just hope Amy and the others are able to get everything needed for Sonic's birthday paty. This year is definitely going to be the year where we're gonna surprise him! I can't wait!'
"Hey, Tails? You got somethin' on your mind?" Sonic suddenly asked, which made the young cub flinch slightly in fright before turning around and smiled innocently.
"Oh, no! I'm just really happy that today's turned out really great!" Tails lied, sheepishly rubbing the back of his head with a small sweat drop.
Blinking in confusion, Sonic just shrugged and smiled, deciding that nothing weird was going on and with his brother's help, they carefully loaded the Mobini to take them back to their natural habitat.
Unaware that way further ahead, blown against the winds, a figure took shape on a hill not far from Station Square. It took shape of a teenage human boy in a lying position, turning out nearly see-through before becoming much more solid until he is restored to normal. It was Sora, who, unaware of happened around here and unknowingly taken from his world to another, began to regain consciousness after saying his heart-wrenching farewell to Kairi.
'W-wha...? What happened to me?' Those were the first thoughts that came into Sora's mind, as he began to open his eyes, seeing the clear blue sky and white clouds above him, feeling the warmth of the sun and...fresh, soft patchy grass underneath him?
"This place..." Sora murmured, tiredly before sitting up as his memories came back to him. All of his adventures, leading up to...to sacrificing himself to bring back Kairi. Yet he gazed at his hands and found that, to his surprise, confusion and relief, he was alive. "At least... I'm all here."
But why? Wasn't he supposed to be dead? Both King Mickey and Chirithy told him as much; if he used the Power of Waking the wrong way, he would never come back home again; he'd lose his powers, especially the Power of Waking, he would fade and vanish from the Realm of Light, and never return. Unless this was the afterlife.
Confusion filling his mind, the fifteen year old Keyblade wielder stood up and looked around. Everywhere he saw was a beautiful grassy field, and from the distance he could see mountains, a forest, hints of a desert and...looking up ahead, Sora noticed something; were those buildings? Like San Fransokyo?
"Huh?" Curiosity getting the better of him, Sora ran to see for himself as fast as he could and while the buildings seemed really far away, the closer he got, the more he began to leave the field and soon found himself reaching a bit of canyon which was unusual. Eventually he came to a stop on top of a small hill and saw a huge city with towering skyscrapers, a large bridge that was just like the one in San Fransokyo, except this city lacked the radio tower, and all of the cool futuristic technology. He could even see parts of the ocean and beaches, forests that took a train trip away.
Unaware that he was in Station Square of the world of Mobius.
"Where am I?" Sora asked aloud.
This was so strange. What could possibly bring him here? Was he really dead, or was he still alive somehow and taken to another world?
"Hmm...If this is heaven, then it's more alive-like than I thought." He thought to himself, folding his arms. "It can't be a dream world in the Realm of Sleep. Riku and I woke all of the worlds, I've never been to this place, and Chirithy told me that the Final World is between dreams and death."
Deciding that exploring this new world he's never seen before even with Donald and Goofy, the teenage boy hurried down the hill to check out this place and figure out where he was. If he was dead and not in the Final World, meaning that he wasn't in limbo, then this was an odd Afterlife. Thankfully there were other ways to get in, so he chose to avoid the bridge and instead went around heading to where normal people where.
Except something was completely different, which as he came to a stop at the entrance of the city, Sora's eyes widened as he saw not just humans but...humanoid animals of all kinds checking everything out and going about daily lives.
"These people...they're just like...Donald, Goofy and the King...!" Sora whispered to himself, unable to believe. This couldn't be Disney Castle of the Country of Musketeers. He has never seen a world where humans and talking animals lived together in coexistence. Then again, he'd seen strange things in other worlds that were considered normal to them.
Talking doorknobs, killer giant playing cards guards, genies and a magic carpet, a goatman training a demigod, a giant whale the swallows living people alive(that memory made Sora grimace and shudder), merpeople with talking sea creatures, pixies that can make people fly(that he missed and wondered how Peter Pan, Tinker Bell and Wendy were doing), a world that celebrated Halloween all year long, enchanted people that were turned into house hold furniture and clocks and whatnot, pirates that were cursed and with a giant octopus(even seeing it and the Keyblade wielder had only been a tad bit scared, but not as much as everybody else), talking gargoyles, even a talking snowman.
Here, at least this was a little bit normal. It was like a mixture of his homeworld, the other human worlds he visited and Disney Castle combined. So he could blend in a little easily as long as he was careful not to break the world order.
"Guess I'd better ask around." Sora decided, and walked around to get a glimpse of this place, passing by people who took notice of him but then paid no mind as they all figured he was just another normal visitor. Even the Mobians paid little attention to him.
'Everything seems so peaceful here. It's almost like this world hasn't been attacked by the Heartless. Maybe this really is the afterlife and...I just haven't seen the other people from other worlds. Well, at least it's not like the Underworld or Davy Jones locker. Heck, it's the second best afterlife besides the Final World!' He thought as he looked around.
"Sonic's gonna be havin' his eyes blown out of his head when he sees how we set up the party!" An unfamiliar rough voice exclaimed up ahead...rather very loudly.
Confused, Sora looked up to see a crocodile, a purple chameleon and a young...giant bee? They seemed to be carrying bags and boxes full of stuff, and it was the crocodile who had spoken. It was Vector, Espio and Charmy, the Chaotix, known as the best ace detectives of all of Mobius...or so they claimed.
"That's what Amy said last year, and Sonic still figured it out." Espio pointed out to Vector.
"This year will be different. Just you wait, Espio. You'll be owin' me ten bucks when I say that Sonic won't notice this time around." Vector reassured optimistically.
"I'm actually with Espio on this one. Sonic seems like the type to figure out his own birthday parties." Charmy rolled his eyes.
Sora, not having heard much of the conversation as it was seemingly hushed despite what Vector just said, but decided to worry about that later and decided to ask them for a bit of help. So the teenage boy hurried over and approached the Chaotix.
"Excuse me?" He spoke up, only to inadvertently startle them as they screamed in fright and nearly dropped all of the shopping bags.
"I already told you, the check's in the mail!" Vector yelled out to the teenager who flinched back and held his hands up.
"Whoa, easy there! Sorry! And...check in the mail?" Sora apologetically said and asked, confused.
"Huh? Wait a second, who the heck are you? Don't remember seeing you around here." The green crocodile blinked once he realized that this young human was unfamiliar. Then again he didn't really pay much attention to humans apart from Sonic's human friends Chris who had moved away a long time ago, and obviously, Dr. Eggman.
"I'm Sora." The spiky-haired teen replied, scratching the back of his head. "Sorry that I startled you guys."
"Sora, huh? Well, at least you're a nice kid." Vector muttered, being ever the forgiving type.
"No problem!" Charmy said happily.
"It was just an accident." Espio calmly said, though he couldn't help but sense something different about the human boy. "Nothing to worry about."
"Right, right." Sora chuckled sheepishly, feeling relieved. At least these guys were nice.
"So, what can we help ya with?" The green crocodile questioned.
"Huh? Aren't we taking a day off to help Amy and Ta-Mmph!" Charmy was cut off when Vector, panicking, quickly covered his face to stop him from revealing the secret in case Sonic was in town since the blue hedgehog had really good sense of hearing whenever he was close by.
"A detective is never really having a day off, Charmy! Sora here came to us, so it looks like he could use some help." Vector quickly protested in a firm but nervous tone, while Espio facepalmed himself and Sora couldn't help but sweat drop at the behavior.
Yet at the same time, he was reminded of how he and Donald would bicker and Goofy would end up being stuck in the middle.
The purple chamelon then sighed and apologetically said with exasperation. "I apologize for my friends' behavior, and well, not to be rude, but we do have a busy few weeks. However, we can help you whatever it is you need."
"Oh, I don't want to bother you guys. I was just wondering if you can tell me where this city is." Sora sheepishly replied, chuckling. "You see, I've never been here before and I'm pretty much lost."
"Lost?" Espio and Vector both blinked in surprise, the latter eventually letting go of Charmy who glared at the crocodile in annoyance, but stopped when he too heard what the teenage boy had just said.
"You mean you've never heard of Station Square?" The seven year old bee asked, surprised.
"Station Square?" The fifteen year old Keyblade Wielder blinked, glancing around once more.
Vector responded. "Yeah, it's one of the most human populated cities in Mobius. Everybody in the entire planet knows that."
"Not everyone." Espio corrected.
'Mobius? Station Square? Wait, so this really is another world? Just how big is this place? And...if I really am alive, then why am I here?' Sora thought to himself, finding himself even more confused. This wasn't making any sense at all. Deciding to forget about it and not wanting to delay these nice people, a little weird but still, any longer, he smiled and nodded. "Okay. Thanks for your help."
Despite the confusion they felt about this weird kid, the Chaotix shared a glance before Vector shrugged and smiled. "Don't mention it, kid. By the way, the name's Vector. I'm the leader of our top detective agency. These here are Espio and Charmy, my best pals and subordinates. If ya need any further help, just dial this number and the Chaotix will help ya out!"
As he was saying this, Vector handed Sora a card which read "Chaotix: If ya need a Case Solved, we'll solve it!" and looked at the back which had a phone number. Well, at least he had a little bit of help, so it was a start.
"Sure. Thanks, Vector." The fifteen year old nodded gratefully.
"Any time, Sora!" Charmy spoke up happily. "Solving cases is what we do best! And sometimes helping out to beat that dumb bad guy Dr. Eggman's butt!"
"We'd best get going. It was a pleasure to meet you, Sora." Espio bowed his head, before he, Vector and Charmy who waved a goodbye, headed off to, hopefully and secretly, Amy's house to deliver the birthday party essentials and accessories for Sonic's birthday, leaving Sora behind which he waved a goodbye as well before he could ask anymore questions.
"...Doctor...Eggman?" Sora murmured, dumbfounded with a raised eyebrow. "That's the weirdest name I've ever heard of."
Not sure what to make of it, and coming to realize that, by miracle or whatever, he had somehow managed to survive and ended up in another world, as Sora gazed at the card the Chaotix gave him, suddenly he remembered what he had and gasped before groaning before slapping himself on the forehead.
"I forgot! The phone thingy! I'm still here, so that means I can just call the others and they can come and find me!" The fifteen year old teen softly exclaimed to himself, before hurrying away to find a good place to make the secret phone call to either one of his friends.
Unaware that he is being watched by a mysterious cloaked figure high above another building, the hood covering the dinosaur-like muzzle, watching Sora's every move as the teenage human ran on the footpath while excusing himself as he passed by people.
"He is the one...the boy who's spirit is similar to Sonic the Hedgehog." The being spoke in a deep voice, before turning around and walked off. Things were about to get interesting.
A/N: While Sonic once again saves the day with the aid of Tails and surprisingly Shadow and GUN to put Eggman in jail once and for all, Sora unknowingly appears in their world and now tries to find his way home. How will this go? Only Space and Time will tell.
