"The shrine of Zera," a young Natsu asked
"what's that, master," a younger Mira asked, sitting next to Natsu. It was a cold night, the sounds of crickets filling the air. As Mavis turned to face the two children looking at her with curious looks, Mavis let out a sigh. As she turned to meet them, she could see Lisanna had fallen asleep on Natsu's shoulder, and Elfman was asleep on Mira's lap, so at least she wouldn't have to explain it to many people, "you don't have to tell us if you don't want to."
"No," Mavis said, "it's just" she looked to the sky; many stars filled the sky. A part of her was hesitant but she ignored it "the shrine of Zera," she smiled, looking back at the two kids. "I'll tell you, but you have to promise me to keep it a secret" the two nodded eagerly, shifting a bit making Lisanna and Elfman stir in their sleep "okay," Mavis said, "the shrine of Zera is the final resting place of an old friend," Mavis said "she was known as the first fairy," she said "much like me she loved to hear stories of fairies" Mavis smiled "she passed away when I was younger" she admitted "so to honor her I made a shrine even when we were young she was called a real fairy, so I figured it would be perfect for her"
"Wow," Natsu, "I wanna see the shrine."
"Me too, master," Mira asked a rare excitement in her eyes "can you take us to see it" Mavis let out a small chuckle at the pair's request.
"One day," Mavis admitted
"I'm sure Zera would love to meet you two" In an unknown part of the island lay's the shrine of Zera, the final resting place of the first fairy. The light in the middle shined the area, creating a large circle. The snowfall that came to the island evaporated as the light stopped before disappearing again. trees grew around the area as several as the light shined again
The one thing I couldn't say
"How the hell do you know about the shrine of Zera" Natsu shouted. There was a rage in his voice as Bluenote glared at him.
"Tell me where it is," Bluenote said again, "now."
"What do you want with that" Carla asked
"it's obvious," Happy said. "Mr. Ponytail obviously wants to become a child of magnolia, so he is trying to find the shrine as well." Happy told everyone as if it was obvious
"There go my brain cells," Carla muttered as Happy was flattened on the ground "oh no, Happy," she screamed.
"you'll be looking for a while," Lucy shouted, "cause we don't know where it is," Lucy called, "and even if we knew, we sure as hell wouldn't tell you."
"You lie," Bluenote said, "as Mavis' chosen son," he turned to Natsu, "you should know where the shine is" he smiled as Lucy felt flattened into the ground. "Tell me before I flatten your friend here till she pops," he screamed as he pushed Lucy to the ground.
"Lucy," Cana called

"What do you want with Zera's grave" Natsu shouted, "tell me."
"I want the secrets of Mavis Vermillion's magic," Bluenote said, "the power she wields, fairy law, Fairy glitter, powerful spells that could destroy nations," he said, "and the rumored third grand fairy spell" eh smiled "I care not of Grimore hearts goal "only to further my ambitions."
"As if," Natsu shouted before Bluenote squashed him, "I'm a human pancake."
"Which one of your friends will you let die first, Salamander," Bluenote asked only to back up when Natsu started to stand up.
"I am Natsu Dragneel," Natsu shouted, trying to stand up "son of Igneel, the fire dragon slayer" he glared at Bluenote as he stood up, shocking everyone "it's going to take a lot more than this to take me down," he shouted as he broke off into a run.
"Wow, he's running," Wendy said
"He must really hate losing," Lucy muttered as Natsu then jumped, shocking everyone there "he jumped," Lucy screamed, "under all this pressure."
"I'm not telling you a damn thing," Natsu shouted as he was blasted back, landing on the ground.
"No, Natsu," Cana screamed. as he managed to stand up again
"Tell me where it is," Bluenote asked
"you'd have to pry it from my cold dead corpse," Natsu shouted. "I'll never betray my master like that.
"So be it" soon, he crushed everyone under an enormous weight save for Mavis, "then you will die."
"Not on your life," Natsu screamed as he slammed the ground. He roared at Bluenote, making the man fall, releasing everyone from the spell "damn it," Natsu said, "this guy is tough."
"Natsu," Cana asked, "are you okay." Natsu sat up before looking at her seconds passed as he placed a hand on her shoulder bringing her in to whisper something in her ear
"Cana," he asked, "do you trust me."
"what" Natsu didn't even look at her, but she could hear the fear in his voice. Her body started to shake. 'I don't even know,' she whispered " I didn't tell Lucy this, but I ditched Gray to continue the trail,' Cana thought to herself. 'I just' she looked at Natsu 'can I even trust myself' she asked as she looked at Natsu. through everything, he always stood by everyone no matter the danger she could get really on him
"With my life" hearing this made Natsu smile.
"Good," he whispered. "I'm going to show you a spell," he said "you only have one shot, so you're going to have to make it count," he whispered as Bluenote walked forward. He whispered the rest in her ear; she nodded, "good, I'm counting on you."
"Do you think"
"don't think," Natsu told her, "You have to know" he smiled as he charged at Bluenote, who only swatted him away.
"You plan on dying, Salamander," he said as he turned to the others before increasing their gravity again, making them scream in pain "your friends will pay the price for your ignorance."
"Not so fast," Natsu shouted "{Fire dragons: Iron fist}" he attempted to punch Bluenote again as he was swatted away, not even touching the man he focused on Natsu smiling as he tried to stand up again only to have his face planted into the ground
"Natsu" Carla screamed.
"Hold on," Happy said, "he might surprise ya" soon, the ground busted into flames, hitting Bluenote, making him release his grip on everyone as Cana stood up, placing a hand on the floor. "Atta boy Natsu" Happy called before being flattened again.
'he's distracted,' she thought. She looked at Lucy. 'Natsu told me to feel for the magic,' she thought to herself 'that because of who I am, I could use it' she looked at Lucy, thinking about all they accomplished while on the island; they were able to stand up to Natsu. figure out the riddle behind Mavis' words, but the reality was, she had to face was one question
"Am I really strong enough"
Flashback
'It was a rainy day twelve years ago. that was the day my mother passed away.'
A young Cana is seen standing in front of a grave, a small dog standing next to her as she cries. "Mommy," she said tears on her face.
'When they told me her will, I found out the name of my father.'
Cana had found herself in Magnolia. She was on the look for her father. She smiled at the thought of seeing her father looking around town. She saw him. He looked down "well, hey there, little lady." Cana walked up to him. He smiled "you might wanna be careful," he said, smiling, "stick around here, and you'll end up smelling like beer and alcohol" he gave a hearty laugh as he walked away, leaving a disheartened Cana.
"Hello," a voice called Cana turned to see Makarov approaching her, "and might ask if you are lost, child."
"umm" Cana she looked at the man who was walking away
"Oh, don't mind him," Makarov said, "just one of the many wizards that come through town" Makarov smiled "come now, you must be hungry," he said
"okay"
'Why didn't he recognize me.'
"Get ready," Mavis's voice rang over the loudspeaker as Cana looked in shock as the city of Magnolia split in two.
"what's going on," Cana asked.
"Oh, that," Macao said, "it's normal around here when he gets back," he smiled at her as Cana watched as the man her father came by. Cana saw him talking to a woman. She smiled as he bowed his head, turning to leave again. Cana tried to reach out but found herself stopping.
'Every time he would come back, he would turn right around to do another job.'
"Oh, hey Cana," the man asked, "you been around a lot, haven't you?
"umm"
"Hey man, Mavis is looking for you," a voice called
"Oh crap," he said " later we can talk later," he said
'It was the one thing I could never say.'
"Wow, Cana," Macao said, "you are picking up fortune-telling," he asked
"Picking up," Wakaba said, coming from behind his friend, "she's a downright pro; all of her predictions are spot on."
"Yeah," Cana said, "my mother used to use a type of card magic" Cana smiled, "she was amazing at it," a look of sorrow came over her face,
"Then why not follow in her footsteps" a voice called. They turned to see Makarov had come to the pub. He smiled "if you want, I can teach you the ways of magic."
"You can," Cana said
'At the time, I believed if I had learned magic, I would get closer to him.'
"Master, I can't do it," Cana cried.
"You have to believe Cana," Makarov said, "you have to let your heart guide you when using your magic."
"I don't understand," Cana said
"You will," Makarov said, "once you find the thing you're looking for," Makarov smiled, "the feeling we have will shoot you to new heights" Makarov smiled at her as Cana stood up again.
'But it didn't bring me closer to him.'
"Something wrong, Cana," a voice called. It had been a few years since she had come to Magnolia, and she had since become engraved in the town "are you alright, child" Cana turned to see Mavis walking up to her.
"I'm fine," Cana said, "just thinking is all."
'What if I'm rejected.'
'What if he never wanted me.'
"You doing okay." the man asked
"yeah"
'He was a powerful wizard, so I decided to become powerful as well, but I'm nothing but a failure.'
"I have to do this," Cana told Lucy. "I have to do this so I can face him so that I can face my father," she cried.
"Cana," Lucy said
"I want to help you."
'his name was Gildarts'
Cana sat back as she watched Gildart's watch over Natsu and Lisanna, two of her friends. A part of her felt envious of their relationship, and she wondered if she could face her father if she told him who she was. She would be playing with them right now. He wouldn't go on jobs that span for months at a time. He would take the three of them out on fishing trips, that she would live in his house and go to him when she had a nightmare.
"Did you hear," Macao said, "Natsu is replacing Gildarts as the chosen son of Magnolia?"
"Really," Wakakba asked
'I wonder if it would've been me.'
End Flashback
Cana shook the thoughts from her head as she watched Natsu fight with Bluenote her mind was all over the place, and yet she felt nothing 'why did he asks me to do this' Cana asked 'I'm nothing but a worthless failure' she said
"You are plenty strong, Cana" Natsu's words from earlier rang in her head.
'Why am I fighting" Cana asked. She looked at Lucy, Wendy, Happy, Carla. She thought of why everyone was still going as she tried to stand up. 'I want to protect them,' she said, tears forming in her eyes cause I could never tell him the truth,' she smiled as she remembered her time with Mira, Natsu, Lisanna, and Elfman training with Makarov.
'I have something worth fighting for,' Cana said, 'so please, Zera, if you're out there.' Cana said, 'I know I'm not one of her children, I know I'm not worthy of you're gifts, but please give me the strength to fight for my family' Cana screamed as a golden light started to surround her
"What," Bluenote asked as he looked at Cana. "This power," he said, "is definitely from the shrine of Zera."
"I knew she could do it," Natsu said
"You only have one shot, Cana' Natsu whispered in her ear, 'and after, you're going to feel like shit, but it's the only way I see us winning this, I didn't want to resort to it, but this guy is dangerous.'
"I hope you're ready," Cana screamed "cause I'm taking you down," she called.
"How did you access that power," he called.
"Wouldn't you like to know," Cana said, "if you want the power of the first fairy so bad" Cana screamed, "come and get it"
"you will come to regret that," Bluenote said, "to think that you would be granted such power," he screamed "hand it over," he shouted as he focused his magic on her, "that magic will allow me to create power beyond your imagination," his face grew angry "a mere child like you can't handle that kind of power" the ground under Cana caved in "now I will rip it from you."

"Not on my watch," Natsu screamed. Still stuck on the ground, he forced himself up "{Dragon slayer secret art: Flame lotus exploding flame blade} a large gust of fire burst from the ground, forcing Bluenote to slide back, giving Cana a chance she needed 'when using it you have to concentrate' Natsu's voice said again 'if you slip it won't be pretty. so, keep in mind why you're fighting, why your still standing
"Gather! O river of light that's guided by the fairies! Shine! To perish the fangs of evil!" Cana screamed, "please work" Cana shouted, "I invoke {Fairy: glitter"} a large beam of light rained down as a single circle surrounded Bluenote. He tried to force it away, but it closed around him as a large explosion broke out.
"that's a lot of magic power," Wendy said
"isn't this Mavis' magic," Lucy asks
as the effect wore off, the sounds of Bluenote laughing making everyone but Natsu and Cana freeze in their tracks as he swiped away the smoke "is that really the best you could do" he said "looks like ultimate power can still be garbage in the hands of trash like you" he said as he walked closer "I'll be taking that power now" he said, "and the good news is I don't need you alive to do it."
"You okay, Cana," Natsu asked.
"Yeah," she smiled, "you and I make a pretty good team," she said, "We should team up more often." the two looked at each other, smiling almost as if their lives weren't in danger.
"yeah," Natsu said, "reminds me of the old days" he smiled
"Yeah, those were the days, weren't they" Cana smiled as well
"you guys need to run" Wendy screamed
"Get out of there," Lucy called
"Make your peace," Bluenote said, "and make it fast" he then attempted to attack only for someone to block, forcing Bluenote to fly back, much to everyone's shock, the rocks being destroyed as Cana smiled tears in her eyes as his cap blew in the wind.
"You okay," he asked. Cana said nothing nodding as tears streamed down her face. The shadow of the man was removed, revealing it to be Gildarts his attention was on bluenote. His face was full of anger, but she could hear the concern in his voice. It made her feel safe secure, like no one in the world could harm her.
"I am now," she said
"Because your here."
