Last time on a fairy tail re-told
Natsu: we won
Wendy: we were able to beat master Hades
Erza: and now it's over, we can rest easy for a bit
Lucy: I can sleep for a week after that
Gray: just a week
Natsu and Mira stood behind Mavis as she sat, the cool breeze brushing past them "so master," Mira asked "what are we going to do about the trial" she asked as Mavis opened her eyes, looking at her "we clearly can't continue with how injured everyone is" Mira told her.
"don't worry," Mavis said, "Zera told me of certain events," Mavis told them, "And I think I made a decision."
"Really," Natsu asked
"Who," Mira said
"All in due time, my children," Mavis said, smiling, "all in due time."
Daybreak on Tenrou Island
On the Grimoire heart airship, Kain and Rustyrose had since fallen to one knee as Hades looked in shock as Zeref walked up to them. "I don't believe it," he muttered, "lord Zeref is standing before me," Hades said in amazement "is this a dream or a fantasy" he looked him over before realizing something "the keys," Hades said, "go fetch them immediately" he called to Rustyrose and Kain only for them to remain in place practically shaking where they stood.
"I can't move," Rustyrose said
"Not a muscle," Kain added
Zeref sighed as he looked at Hades "you won't be needing those keys, as you can see," he told him, "I am wide awake" Hades sat up in horror, "how many atrocities did you commit to attaining those keys? Did you count the lives you took, the widows you made, the children who will never grow up," Zeref said as he overlooked Kain and Rustyrose, "or the lives you ruined, the people who you have given false hope to"
"What do you mean," Hades asked
"The keys you mention," Zeref told him, "Are nothing but falsehood made by a group of fanatics who wanted nothing more than my resurrection, and you took their words as gospel. the Keyes you have are unnecessary as I am already wide awake."
"How," Hades asked, "you could barely hold your own against one of my underlings," he shouted as he placed a hand over his eye. "I saw it with my devil's eye."
"at the time," Zeref said, "I was at my full power," Zeref admitted, "but now my strength grows," he said as Hades and the others could only watch in fear as they felt the magnitude of Zeref's power "long ago, four hundred years ago to be exact, I witnessed countless wars and was the cause of many death, however," Zeref stopped "as if by a miracle I found out the true value of life, but this accursed body of mine would steal the souls of those the more I valued it" a look of sorrow came over his face "to attain my true power, I must forget the true value of life itself" Zeref explained.
"So, you were waiting for something to make you want to fight against life," Hades asked.
"Yes," Zeref said, "The sins of morality shackled me, but your abysmal actions have freed me at last" Kain began to cry as Zeref towered over them as Hades stood up, "and with your wicked thoughts and the war, you caused you have awakened him," Zeref said "you have awakened Acnologia" he shouted "and for that sin, you must be punished.
"Wait," Hades begged. "I still have questions for you, lord Zeref," he shouted "what is Acnologia," he asked before stopping.
"Farwell Precht Gaebolg," Zeref said, shocking the man as a look of realization came over him. He tried to move, but Zeref clasped his hands together, a black wave coming over them "for this is your sin alone," he told him.
"So repent while you still can," Zeref told him "you killed our master."
"he's dead as a doornail," Kain muttered.
"Death is too good for you," Zeref says, "may you suffer in hell for what you've done" Zeref stopped a feeling coming over him "he is coming," he muttered.
"Acnologia"
Miles away on a small ship Meredy and Ultear sat in a small boat. They had found the waves were the only thing that kept them company as they sailed away from Grimoire heart Ultear looked at the girl who had yet to say a word since she had found her smiled as a couple of dolphins went past them. Ultear smiled "hey," she said, getting the girl's attention, "dolphins," she said, hoping to spark some conversation. Still, Meredy said nothing, looking away "look," Ultear noted. "we're going to have to put Grimoire heart behind us," she said, "and Zeref," Ultear said, "I know how you."
"Why did you come back for me," Meredy said, cutting her off. "For that instance, why do you always come to me."
[##Past story ost##]
"I," Ultear stopped, "do you remember when you the first time you called me Ur," she said, looking into the distance as Meredy nodded. "I told you about my mother, and I'll never forget your reaction" she smiled at the memory she looked at her, "we had a huge argument over how a mother could never truly hate their children."
"I remember," Meredy muttered.
"The truth is," Ultear said, "my whole reason for trying to reach the grand magic world was to go back to a time when my mother loved me," Ultear admitted, "to see her one more time" Ultear laughed. "I caused so much suffering, and I killed without remorse, always believing that it wouldn't matter because I would start over when I did it."
"Was it worth it," Meredy asked
"No," Ultear said, "cause you were right," Ultear told her. "My mother didn't even hate me, " she said, tears forming in her eyes "we were both victims of a lie," she said, "a cruel lie that took her from me, and me from her" she laughed, "but what makes it worse."
"You had a chance to fix it," Meredy told her. "You had a chance to say to her how much you loved her, and you didn't take it," Meredy said, "instead, you ran down a darker path."
"Yes," Ultear said. She looked at Meredy "out of everyone in Grimoire heart, you were the only one who wasn't there based on some power fantasy" she looked into the distance, "and I guess we had that in common, all you wanted, you're wish was to see your mother, again" Ultear smiled "and I guess a part of me felt a kinship with you, and I guess I thought that in our next lives we would be close because we were in this one" Ultear smiled "that we would be friends, family even" she smiled.
"you wanted to be friends," Meredy asked before laughing, "I thought," she looked away she looked at her hand, "at the village we meet, I didn't have many of those," Meredy admitted, "and the few I did have, I killed," Meredy said "they called me a monster," she said "and in a way I was, and I enjoyed it" Meredy smiled "I choose to embrace my monster."
"I guess you can say we were both horrible people," Ultear laughed
"No," Meredy shouted, standing up. "I," she stopped, tears forming. "I just wanted to see her again," she said, "but I" she stopped when Ultear had stood up, hugging her as well. "I still want to find her," Meredy said
"You will," Ultear said, "and like you, one day I might find my mother again" Meredy looked up to her before smiling
"Yeah." Meredy said, pushing away "it is a beautiful sight," Meredy muttered
"Yeah," Ultear said smiling, "we spent so long focusing on the grand magic world, so long trying to reach it we almost missed the beauty in this one." Ultear stood in front of her, both enjoying the sight. "I guess I was right," Ultear said "yesterday, the sun truly had set on my old life," she smiled, "and now is the first day," she looked at Meredy,
"The first day of our new lives."
"you're canceling the trial," Elfman asked, "but come on, none of us found this shrine or whatever," Elfman said, hoping to convince Mavis otherwise.
"Yeah," Gray said, "I was having fun looking for it."
"You mean following Lucy and me," Cana added in.
"I know," Mavis said. "I had a lot planned for whoever found it and other things for us to do," Mavis said, "but after everything that happened, we have little choice," Mavis explained, "all of you are covered in bandages from head to toe, not to mention Juvia" she looked at the women who had yet to wake up "we should try to get back to the mainland as soon as possible."
"First a council member manipulated our memories, then Grimoire heart invaded" Mira shook her head "at this point, we need to stop trying to stay out of trouble because that seems to be the only time it finds us."
"Well, if you guys are sure," Elfman, a hint of disappointment in his voice. "Oh well."
"And also," Mira said, a teasing grin on her face, "you were talking in your sleep, baby bro," Mira said, "Evergreen, Evergreen," Mira said, trying not to laugh, "weird, huh"
Elfman turned red as a tomato and started shouting, "it's not like that," he screamed, "I was just worried about her, that's all."
"Is that so," Laxus said, popping up behind him. He placed a hand on his shoulder, giving him a nod.
"What does that mean," Elfman asked as Laxus walked away "hey Laxus, get back here and tell me what that nod meant," he shouted, running after him as Mira laughed
"Speaking of which," Laxus asked, "where did Natsu run off to."
"He," Wendy spoke up before looking down, "said he needed to clear his head or something."
"Did something happen" now, Mira and Mavis were by Laxus's side as they questioned the young dragon slayer? "I know Hades was terrifying, but he seemed to be taking it well."
"I don't think he had anything to do with what happened on the ship," Wendy admitted, "but if it makes you feel any better, Gildarts followed after him."
"Come on," Mavis said, "we all need things to process," as she started to walk away. "Mira, can you handle things here" Mira nodded her head "good, I need to go check on the Tenrou tree. You kids, stay here and rest up."
"Yes, ma'am"
Lucy noticed Cana looking in the distance "hey, you okay" she asked, getting Cana's attention; she looked at her before shaking her head "what's wrong."
"it's just" Cana gripped her arm, feeling the sting from her attempt at Fairy glitter. everything that had happened came to her mind, "I think it's time I bite the bullet" she looked at Lucy
"it's time I tell him the truth."
Natsu and Gildarts sat near a small hole at the bottom. small fish jumped in and out as the two had fishing poles Gildarts gave a relaxed sigh looking over at Natsu "you okay over there, kid" Gildarts asked, "you never pass up a good fishing trip."
"Aye," Happy said, "best time of my life has been fishing," the feline shouted.
"Yeah," Natsu said, "just a lot on my mind right now."
"You wanna talk about it," Gildarts asked as Natsu shook his head
"Not yet," Natsu said "it's just," he looked into the distance, "have you ever done something and wondered what if you did it differently."
"Yeah," Gildarts said, "there's a lot of choices I've made that I wish I could take back" he looked at Natsu, "but we can't worry about choices not made. We can only worry about where the current path is taking us."
"But what if the path takes us back to where we started," Natsu asked,
"Then think about it like fishing." Gildarts, "when you find you're self at such a point, you gotta be patient," he smiled "let life take you where it wants you to go, and when you are given a choice, use all the knowledge you have gained up to that point to make a choice" he looked over to Natsu "whether it's the right or wrong one will be up to you" he could see Natsu smile. times like this brought him he enjoyed fishing with the boy and was glad he could offer him some advice
"I might land a huge one this time," Natsu joked.
"Ya see," Gildarts told him, "That's the spirit." fishing was an authentic bonding experience for men and sometimes a chance to let you process everything gin the craziness you call life, "though you're not going. To land anything larger than me, kid."
"We'll see about that ya old fossil," Natsu joked as the pair started laughing.
"Hey guys," Lucy called, getting their attention as Natsu looked back, a look of realization coming over him.
"Umm, Gildarts," Cana said nervously, "can we umm talk."
"Sure," Gildarts said, "just let me and Natsu finish
"I need to go check in with Mavis," Natsu said, suddenly catching the man off guard as he stood up "thank Gildarts, I think I get what you meant." he smiled "besides, like you always tell me, I can't put off my duties too much," he said "we can finish later" he waved him off
"If you're sure," Gildarts said as his friend stood up and walked up to Lucy
"Come on, Lucy," he said, "you can help too" he smiled as he gave Cana a thumbs up before walking past her. She looked at him before smiling. They didn't say it, but the look she gave him told him all he needed to know. Cana turned to look at Gildarts. Her body was trembling. She could feel sweat forming on her palms as she swallowed the lump in her throat.
"So, what do you want to talk about," Gildarts said "ya know," he said, "you've grown since we've first met"
"Yeah," Cana said
"And you look familiar too. Sorry if that sounds too weird," Gildarts told her, laughing.
"No," Cana said, "well, I was hoping you'd say that," Cana said, rubbing her arm as Gildarts stopped looking at her "you see the reason I ended up Magnolia as well, my mother had recently passed away, and I was looking for my father."
"No," Gildarts told her, "First I heard of it," he told her, "I'm sorry about that."
"it's fine," Cana said
"So, did you ever find him," Gildarts asked? He looked at Cana, who seemed to be getting more nervous by the second.
"You could say that," Cana said, "all I had was his name," she said. She then looked at him wanting to get it out before her small burst of courage died to say the one thing she couldn't "his name was Gildarts" The shock on Gildarts's face was enough to tell her that he had no idea she existed.
[##Ambition within the heart##]
"I was" Gildarts stopped now. It was no secret around Magnolia that he slept around, but he was always safe. It was a lesson he hammered into Natsu's head as well. He may be a pervert, but safety comes first though there were the few genuine relationships he had. And the looking around thing was something he tried to stop after he met. his eyes grew in shock 'no,'
"Look, I know that," Cana stopped "look, you deserved" she was stopped when she felt his embrace around her "let go," Cana muttered.
"Cornelia," he muttered, shocking Cana "why," he asked, "why did you wait so long to tell me," He asked.
"Things kept coming up," Cana said, "and it wasn't like you stuck around."
"I'm so sorry," Gildarts told her, rubbing the back of her head. "Cornelia was the only woman I ever truly loved," he told her. "She meant the world to me; marrying her had to be the happiest day of my life" he smiled at the memories. "When I learned she had passed, it was like a part of me had died," he admitted, "but there was a part of her still with me." tears formed in his eyes as he tightened his embrace. "I'm so sorry."
"it's okay," Cana said, "it's not your fault."
"Yes, it is," Gildarts admitted, "as your father, I should have realized who you were the second I laid eyes on you." he smiled. "I'll make it up to you one day."
"Gild-" Cana stopped "okay, Dad," she said as she fell, tears finally formed, she finally had the weight lifted off her chest. She smiled as the two stayed in silence as she finally embraced her father, the one thing she had wanted to do for years. 'he's so warm,' she thought.
"I'll always be there for you," Gildarts said, "whether it be on the job or if we're hitting up bars."
"I don't think you'll keep up with me," Cana said as she heard Gildarts laugh.
"that's my girl."
The battle is over as many have started on a new path and a new appreciation towards life as they recover from the struggle with Grimoire heart. As Cana finally admits the truth to her father, our heroes have earned some much-needed relaxation, but little do they know something sinister is approaching the Island.
A large shape flies to the Island, a long tail flying through the wind, its large wings rising to the sky as it sees Tenrou Island. Its mouths slowly moved. Steam seemed to come out as its red eyes glowed as it went for the Island, muttering only one thing.
"Dragon born"
