Trailing Sectors, somewhere between what remains of Malastare and Naboo; 60 minutes before the reapers invade Naboo…
The super tactical droid commander, designation, Javelin, stood steadfastly on the bridge of a Providence Class Dreadnought, Usurper. Javelin's fleet had been preparing to commence an invasion on Malastare. Separatist Probe Droids and Dug informants, who were not particularly happy about being part of the Republic, had reported something of great interest, and of great technological discovery to CIS command, and Count Dooku himself had ordered the nearest fleet to investigate. Even though he was programmed to follow the orders of his superiors, he was also programmed for strategy, and self preservation, in order to prevent both himself, and Separatist property from falling into Republic hands. He had calculated, however, that the Republic would be too busy dealing the invasion of Coruscant. If it had happened that is. For all of his programming and calculating, he could not have predicted the Republic knew about the impending invasion, and moved the chancellor to Naboo.
Javelin had been preparing for almost a single rotation to invade Malastare when one of the navigator droids spoke up.
"Commander," the droid said, in the usual, nasally voice the droids had. "We've entered the coordinates for Malastare in the Navicomputer, but we are unable to get an exact location for the planet. It's not on the star chart, sir," Javelin kept his calm, menacing demeanor that made the Republic fear super tactical droids.
"Impossible," he said, in a deep monotone voice. "The charts are correct. Recalculate and proceed with the jump to hyperspace." The B1s nodded and did as they were instructed, but the same error beep sounded on the chart. Javelin walked over to the droid and peered over its shoulder, like a supervisor watching over a new employee.
"Curious. The coordinates are correct, yet no planet appears,"
"That's what I just said," the navigator droid said under his robotic breath.
"It is likely an error with star charts. Proceed with the jump," Javelin commanded, returning to his post watching over the bridge.
"Roger, Roger," the navigator droid was about to broadcast a code to the rest of the fleet to jump, when the Usurper's radar detected movement on the outskirts of the fleet. The other navigator droid pulled up the radar on the bridge's holo projector.
"Uhh Sir? Scans are detecting movement in sector 31. Several large ships are approaching," the droid said, looking back at Javelin.
"Battle stations. All ships prepare to fire. We cannot risk the Republic following our fleet to Malastare," Javelin said, slamming his fist into his other robotic hand.
"The ships do not appear to be Republic in origin sir. They're of an unknown design and affiliation," one of the navigator droids said. Javelin looked out of the view port as the ships were getting closer.
"Curious. They bear a resemblance to our own Trident-Class assault ships. Analyze the incoming vessels to determine our best course of attack,"
"Roger, Roger. Analyzing," one of the droids said. There was silence in the bridge for almost a minute when one of the droids spoke up.
"Commander, the ships do not match any known vessel in the galaxy," Javelin continued to watch the ships out of the viewport when the other droid spoke up.
"Sir! We've detected increased power levels in their scanning technology. It looks like they're analyzing us!" Suddenly, the ships surrounding the separatist fleet began to glow in a blue hue with deflector shields! Javelin quickly realized what they were doing.
"They are replicating our defensive capabilities, shields and armor. Open fire!" The droids gave a "roger, Roger" and fired everything the fleet had at them, to little effect. In turn, the reapers showed their fire power to the Separatist Fleet, launching their devastating beams of energy and physically latching themselves onto the separatist ships. After several minutes of fighting, the separatists had taken out a few reapers, but the reapers had thinned their numbers significantly. The separatists had a difficult time punching through the reaper's newfound shields and armor, along with the reaper's existing defenses, and their already strengthened kinetic barriers. Explosions and alarms could be heard from all over the Usurper.
"Status report," Javelin commanded from his same position on the bridge.
"Commander! We have lost our other Providence Class Dreadnought, and several munificent-class frigates have been destroyed or severely damaged!" One of the navigator droids said. Javelin stood calculating for a moment, and his self-preservation directives kicked in.
"Plot an immediate course for Raxus. We must inform Count Dooku of this new enemy. Any ship that does not obey will be left behind. Commence hyperspace jump," and with that, the crippled few remaining ships of Javelin's fleet made the jump to hyperspace, leaving behind the wreckage of over a dozen separatist ships, with the reapers continuing towards Naboo…
Hey everyone! Here's a quick chapter that explains how the Reapers will actually be somewhat of a formidable opponent, and also wanted to include the CIS for once too. This was the most believable idea I could come up with, and I'm sorry if it's not what others had thought! The reapers realize that the technology of the star wars universe far exceeds that of the mass effect universe, so they determine the best course of action is to basically use their own defenses against them. It's a whole new galaxy to harvest and "bring order" to, so they adapt as such. I've also considered giving the reapers the ability to "replicate" the hyperspace travel abilities of star wars ships, to account for the Lack of mass relays in the star wars galaxy, but that may make them OP. Let me know what you think about this idea though! And any ideas you have! I hope to have another chapter up sometime this week or early next week! As always, thanks for reading!
