Hey, fairy tail fans, and welcome back to a fairy tail re-told. The grand magic games arc is well underway; this will be a long one, so I'll try to make sure it's good as possible. In any case, while the last chapter was a setup, I feel this chapter is the start of the arc since this is the chapter we learn about the grand magic games and all that. And don't worry, I have a relatively good way of getting Natsu and the gang into the games despite not being in a guild. but more on that later, for now, let's get into the story
Last time on a fairy tail re-told
Natsu: so, we know the guys who have a grip on Magnolia. Now, what do we do?
Wendy: we find a way to hit them
Erza: easy now we don't want to cause a full-on guild war
Lucy: Yes, we've had enough of those
Gray: enough to last a lifetime
Happy: Aye
Wendy: you guys are no fun
Lucy and Wendy sat outside the dragon pub. Lucy was busy finishing doing Wendy's hair "you know I'm surprised you stopped wearing pigtails," Lucy said "they would make you look so cute," she gushed at the young dragon slayer whose face turned pink.
"Yeah," Wendy said, "these days, I mostly wear my hair up in a ponytail" she stood up, "thanks for helping with my hair, though, Lucy."
"I may not be Cancer, but I can hold my own," Lucy bragged "besides, not like you need my help to be any cuter," she said as Wendy let out a small giggle.
"it's so peaceful right now," Carla said as she looked around. "Shirotsume may not be Magnolia, but I must admit I am growing fond of this place." she smiled as the wind blew across her face
"Yep," Wendy said, "this is the perfect place to lay low," Wendy said, "no guild are in the area, so guild wizards only pass through town if they're on the job."
"And I'm guessing it doesn't help that people in town started coming here asking you for help, right," Wendy said nothing as Lucy let out a laugh.
So, we aim for the top.
"Man, this weather is perfect," Happy said "can we just do nothing today," he asked.
"I second that motion," Natsu added.
"We should enjoy the peace and quiet while we can, " Carla said, "knowing our luck; there is no telling when this will happen again."
"Yeah," Natsu said
"Well then, find me a chair," Wendy screamed
"Hey, don't leave me out," Lucy said
"Hey Natsu," a voice called. Everyone looked up to see Max walking up to them "you busy man," Natsu shook his head. "That good, so what do you say to a fight," he asked, shocking everyone there.
"What's your angel," Natsu asked.
"Nothing, man," he said, "just wanted a rematch after last time."
"Last time," Lucy asked.
"Natsu and Max fought once a while ago," Happy informed them. "Natsu won, of course, and I guess he wants a rematch."
"You know how Miko gets, man. I don't want to get kicked out." Natsu muttered he wasn't really up for a fight right now. There was a lot on his mind, and honestly, he would rather sleep right now or have some food or both; both are good.
"we're outside," Max said
"This might be a good chance," Wendy reasoned. "It might let you see your power going against another wizard," Wendy told him. "We are going to have to go against Sabertooth eventually."
"Fine," Natsu said, sitting up "guess I could use a good brawl" he smiled. "I'm all fired up," Natsu shouted as he charged Max, who ducked out of the way, landing a kick on Natsu's back, sending him away "wow, I see you've been training for the past seven years."
"Yep," Max said, "I've been working on my fighting chops."
"don't you dare embarrass me, Natsu," Wendy screamed
"Is Natsu getting schooled by Max"
"Take this" Natsu screamed as he slammed against Max's sand magic again "{fire dragons: Iron fist"} he shouted as he created a cloud of large dust that could be seen over them.
"Come on. Man," Max teased, "come at me with all you got" the current mood of the air was gone as Natsu and Max started to release their magic power in the air as everyone gave the pair space so they could have their whole fight without the worry of hurting them.
"Light flame dragon mode," Natsu screamed as lighting started to surround him "{Lighting flame dragon: roar}" he screamed as a large blast shot past, narrowly missing Max as he backed up in fear "man, that was way more powerful last time."
"I think I'm a good man," Max said. "I don't feel like dying today."
"That wouldn't have killed you," Natsu said "trust me, I was pulling back as much as I could"
"Yeah," Lucy said, "you should have seen it on Tenrou Island. From what Levy told me at full power, that attacks turned the sky orange," Lucy laughed. "it was night time by the way."
"don't joke like that, Lucy," Max screamed
"You okay," Wendy asked
"Yeah," Natsu muttered
"You might want to get some practice with that before pulling it out in a real fight." Happy laughed
"We have a serious problem," Gray said
"How long have you been there," Lucy asked
"We were asleep for seven years right," Gray said. "Powerhouses like Natsu, Mira, Gildarts, heck, even Erza might not have felt it, but the rest of us have probably gotten weaker due to us sleeping."
"Oh yeah," Wendy said as if a light bulb went off in her head, "I know just the person to ask," she said, smiling
moments later, Lucy and Gray both found themselves being looked over by Porlyusica, who wasn't too pleased with seeing them "what have I told you about bringing guest here" she shouted
"Oh, get over it, ya old bat," Wendy retorted "besides, I need to know there's a way to help them increase their magic power."
Porlyusica let out a sigh as she turned to face the girl "you know as well as I do that the only to increase one's magic power is through time," she said
"I know that, but why are Gray and Lucy weaker now than they were seven years ago," she asked, "it doesn't make sense."
"As you told me," Porlyusica said, "Zera preserved them in the fairy sphere for seven years," she asked to which Wendy nodded "since they were kept in the same period" Porlyusica stroked her chin "as you know the magic power the flow in our planet grows with each passing year."
"It does," Lucy asked.
"Yes," Porlyusica said, "nothing to be afraid about. It's just a natural part of the cycle here on earth land, and the reason people are born with magic power."
"So, wait, did us being stuck on Tenrou Island affect us," Gray asked
"In a way," Porlyusica said, "people like Gildarts wouldn't notice it," she explained, "and thanks to Mavis Natsu and Mira, power grows, and the tenrou tree negates this type of thing, but you all lost Mavis mark" she shook her head "meaning that your bodies haven't been able to grow with the planet and with you powering the fairy sphere for seven years."
"Is there anything we can do," Gray asked
"No," Porlyusica said, "all you can do is let your bodies grow on their own"
"So, we're back to square one," Lucy said, "and Mavis is still recovering after everything that happened on Tenrou Island."
"it'll be fine," Wendy said, "but at least you aren't going to get any worse," she said as they all got up to leave, bidding the elder wizard Farwell as Wendy snagged a book of the shelf. "I'm stealing this," she said as she left.
"Wendy" Carla shouted
"What," Wendy said, "it's a good medical book."
"you two seem close," Lucy said as a solum look grew on Wendy's face
"It started a while after you guys disappeared," she admitted. "I started going to her to learn more about healing magic" Wendy smiled as tears started to form in her eyes "she just" Wendy stops "she smells so much like her, ya know."
"Like whom," Lucy asked.
"My mother," Wendy said, "the sky dragon Grandeeneey."
"Wait, what do you mean," Gray asked "is she Grandeeneey," Lucy asked
"No," Wendy said, "while their scents are similar, there is a key difference," Wendy said, "and not the fact she is a dragon, but there a difference in scent, almost like the one the Edolas me had," she said
"was, it, so that means," Lucy asked but decided to drop the subject when she saw the sorrowful look in Wendy's eye. Despite it being fourteen years it was easy to tell the sting of her mother's disappearance hurt her more than anything
"it's alright," Wendy said, trying to change the subject "come on, let's get back," she said

Back in Shirotsume, Natsu and Cana watched as Gildarts walked up to them both. Smiling behind him was Mira "go easy on him," Natsu said, patting her on the back "okay."
"I'll try," Cana said as Gildarts came up to her
"Hey princess," Gildarts said
"I thought I told you no nicknames," she said as Gildarts backed up. Natsu and Mira nodded as they walked away, giving the father and daughter some space.
"Fine," he said, looking away, "look, it's about time I get to hitting the road again," he said as Cana looked away. "I know it may feel like I'm running off again, but" he was stopped. When Cana held up a finger,
"No, dad," Cana said, "I."
"You could always come with me, I mean," he said, "these past few weeks have been fun," he smiled, "and I'll admit it's nice having you around, Cana."
"As tempting as that offer is, Dad," Cana smiled. "I can't," she looked away." I want to be there when getting our home back," she said. "I need to be there."
"Yeah," Gildarts said, "Magnolia is still all our home," Gildarts said, "but it can't be me who has to win it back."
"Yeah," Cana said as Gildarts handed her something,
"If you ever need me." he said, "call me, and I'll come running."
"Alright, Dad," she said as Gildarts started to walk away. She didn't know when she would see him again, but she was glad that he had a reason to come back as she looked over the card that had a stupid picture of Gildarts on it 'stay safe out there, dad, "Cana screamed as Gildarts turned to her giving her a smile "love you" she shouted.
"Love you too; sweetie," Gildarts called back as Cana turned away
'I told him no nicknames, ' Cana giggled as she walked up to Natsu and Mira, "you two look happy."
"Oh, nothing," Mira said. "I'm just glad to see you so happy, Cana."
"Yeah," Cana said, "speaking of which," Cana asked, looking around, "where's Mavis."
"She is talking with Erza," Mira said
"You don't mean," Cana asked as Natsu and Mira smiled at her
Erza stood alone on a bridge that was in Shirotsume town. Her mind was a flutter after her conversation with Mavis. It had her feeling a certain way. Shaking her head, she looked in the distance. She had to admit, though, it was a tempting offer
Flashback
"I know that this is a sudden development," Mavis said the pair were in a room in the dragon pub, "but after Tenrou Island, Zera wouldn't shut up about it" she smiled at her.
"But Mavis," Erza stopped looking over her arm, "are you sure."
"don't you remember what I told you," Mavis said, "the past is just that, the past" she looked her in the eyes as she said the next part, She knew what she felt everyone who received this offer had a similar reaction, but she could tell it was for different reasons "I know you feel that you have a debt to pay us" Mavis started "but know that you have more than proved yourself Erza," Mavis said "and even Natsu and Mira agree that you are more than worthy of this"
"I know, but it's just" Erza stopped.
"You don't have to answer now," Mavis said, standing up, "and if you don't have to accept," she smiled. "I'll give you a week," Mavis said. "I want this to be your choice Erza," Mavis said. "I can't make this decision for you."
"I understand," Erza said as the women left the room, leaving Erza to her thoughts.
End Flashback
"Hey Erza," a voice called, pulling the woman out of her thoughts as she saw Lucy, Gray, Wendy, and Carla running up to her "there you are," Lucy said, "what's with the sad look," Lucy asked, "everything okay."
"Yes," Erza admitted, "just a lot on my mind right now," she said, "so much has changed while we've been gone"
"True," Gray said as he patted Wendy on the head, "this one has grown into a full-on young woman on us."
"Hey," Wendy said as she tried to remove his hand from her head
"But one thing has remained the same," Carla noted "we still have each other no matter how different things are, we can count on the fact that we can and will support each other"
Erza smiled at this as Lucy walked next to her "and you know," Lucy added, "change is good," she started, "my father used to tell me that change simply meant that we were growing as people" she looked into the distance "that we are allowing ourselves to grow."
"Allowing us to grow," Erza said before a smile came across her face
"There it is, "Lucy said, "the classical Erza smile, a shame we have to work so hard to get it."
"I've been working on it." Erza started as she looked away, getting ready to leave "come on, Mavis is expecting us," she said as she began to lead the group out. As they entered the pub, they saw Mavis sitting at the counter as she looked at Erza, who walked up to her giving her a bow. "Mavis, I" she looked away
"there's no rush Erza," Mavis said, "the decision is entirely on you."
"Wait, what's that about," Lucy asked.
"Nothing of importance," Mavis said, "just some things Erza and I discussed
"if you say so," Lucy said as she gave Erza a look
"so what now," Gray asked
"we get magnolia back," Wendy said, "we've kept them waiting for seven years too long."
"I don't want to be the cause of another war," Mavis said "we need to find an easier and more peaceful way of getting our home back," Mavis scratched her chin, "but right now, I'm clueless."
"not entirely peaceful, but I have a solution that won't involve war," Wendy said, "possibly," she admitted, "we need to enter the grand magic games."
"What," everyone asked.
"It started seven years ago," Miko said "around the time you went missing," she said, "the king of Fiore came up with it to stop all the guild fighting that was going on at the time."
"It worked," Laki said, "mostly even though Sabertooth and Mermaid heel is three steps from war at this point."
"Mermaid heel," Lucy asked.
"They're an all-girls guild that popped up Seven years ago," Laki said "like Sabertooth, they were under phantom Lord before they fell, they got a new master and started growing like crazy," she explained, "they've taken over half of what used to be phantom Lord territory."
"And I take it Jiemma doesn't like that," Gajeel asked.
"Not at all," Laki explained. "Mermaid's heel's master is one of the ten wizard saints, though," she revealed, "and from what I hear, the main reason they haven't gone to war yet."
"really," Erza asked "who is their master"
"no one you've officially met," Laki explained, "but you've no doubt heard of her" she pulled out a photo "Riana Kakuma,"
"that's Mermaid heels, master," Wendy asked
"Should we know who that is?" Lucy asked
"Riana Kakuma, she's the leader of the Fiore white tigers," Natsu explained, "and one of the best swordswomen in earth land, she uses a type of sword magic though that all they say about it," Natsu said, "my best theory is that its a kind of lost magic."
"I've never heard of the white tigers," Gray said, "they some kind of enforcement unit."
"there a top-secret unit that works directly for the king," Laki told him "what they do is anyone's guess, but Riana is widely known for her sword skill, so much so that people were surprised when it was revealed she was a wizard, not to mention one of the ten wizards saints."
"you said that's the main reason Mermaid heel and Sabertooth haven't gone to war yet," Natsu asked
"The council wanted to tone down the number of wizard saints getting involved, with all the fighting and, stuff," Wendy told them, "But if you ask me, the rule only existed so Makarov couldn't get involved and protect Magnolia," shaking her head, she looked at the group.". However, I think they're glad they can use it at least slow down another guild war."

"Then we're just going to have to take it back," Natsu said, slamming his fist together "if winning these grand magic games are our best shot at getting Magnolia back from Sabertooth, then I say bring it on"
"I agree," Erza said "we win these games get our home back," Erza said
"Well, if you guys are in, then I'm in two," Lucy said
"Sounds like fun," Gray said
"If Gray is going, then Juvia will do her best to help out," Juvia screamed "she is feeling much better, she promises," she called, making everyone laugh.
"This plan is insane," Gajeel said, looking away "eh, what the hell I'm in"
"Aye, sir"
"Since we're all in agreement," Mavis said, "how long do we have till these grand magic games start"
"We have about five months," Wendy said, "more than enough time to get you up to speed."
"Oh yeah," Natsu said
"we're all fired up."
Fairy tail is ready to get back in action and is prepared to take back their home by entering the grand magic games. will they be able to beat off some of the most powerful guilds in all of Fiore? Find out in the next exciting chapter of a fairy tail re-told
