-.-.-.-.-. story -.-.-.-.-.-.-
Ed opened her door to find one of the princes of Xing on her doorstep. Specifically Ling Yao, the 12th crown prince, scion of the Yao Clan. She stepped back and shut the door in his face. Today she didn't want to deal with whatever problem came from Xing.
Unfortunately the problem just returned through her window.
She sighed, it was her first time living on her own and she knew everyone was concerned for her but this was the first Saturday where she didn't have to work at her shop. The first Saturday where she wasn't heading to Resembool to help Al and Winry with something repair-related. Where she wasn't getting harassed by Mustang to do some contract work. Today she wanted to be alone, to relax.
So she'd had plans for a walk along the river, to have lunch at a cafe, watch the world go by, and sort some things out in her head that needed to be dealt with. First and foremost, how to tell the crew she was a woma-.
"Edward!" She was startled out of her thoughts, "Did your door blow shut? I have a mission I need your help with."
Ruined. Her special plans for her first Saturday off. Ruined.
Ling was already in the fridge and yammering on about the mission and what he needed help with while simultaneously devouring everything in sight. Ed returned to her wistful thoughts of a lazy Saturday afternoon. Sunshine… light breeze… cold drin-
"So what do you think? Can you help me? I need to find a wife, someone who doesn't expect me to love them since Lan Fan's family has decided it was necessary to marry her off to the highest bidder. I have to be married to be king and I need a woman that will know that it is a marriage in title only. I need to find- wait. Ed?! Ed what are you wearing?! Are you a woman?!"
Shit. He'd noticed the dress.
Ed massaged her temples. Her other hand pointing at the door, "Get out."
"No way! This is perfect, YOU can by my wife. You already know my whole situation and you can't have anyone you're dating in Amestris because they all think you're a boy! Wow! This is so excellent. I have to call my father!"
What the fuck was happening? She watched Ling pick up the receiver on her phone before her brain connected the dots. Nope. Ed grabbed the entire phone from his hands and threw it on the ground, smashing it. "I'm NOT marrying you! Are you crazy?! Get out of my house!"
Ling looked heartbroken. Which was impossible, he'd just eaten.
The doorbell rang.
Ling and Ed turned their attention to the doorway, now open. "Ed? Are you ok? I heard smashing."
Are you kidding me?! Ed couldn't bring herself to move as Mustang entered her apartment.
Ling didn't have the same reservations. "Colonel Mustang! Ed and I are getting married so I can be King."
Mustang looked at her, his face was full of angry confusion.
Ed just started shaking her head 'no'. Nonononono.
"Married?! Why are you wearing a dress? What's going on in here? Are you a woman?"
Ed was still shaking her head, though in the dress it was an easy conclusion. Could you back out of a situation in your own living room?
Her neighbour popped his head around the corner, "Edaline? Your brother is on my line, he says your phone isn't working and he's wondering if you could come home this weekend."
Ed's eye twitched as she fixed the newest interruption with a steely gaze, "I'm busy."
The neighbour was getting a good look at the men in her apartment, one jumping around and eating everything, the other clearly about to light things on fire.
"Yeah, ok. I'll tell him you're busy."
"Thank you."
He disappeared.
Ed moved her glare to encompass the remaining intruders, "As for you two, you're both going to leave. NOW."
"But you're my wife!"
"I'm not your damn wife Ling, I'm not marrying you, I'm not moving to Xing. You're leaving."
"But you're the perfect woman!"
"NO!" She threw him out the open window knowing he could land it. One gone …
"Ed?"
"Nope. Not today Mustang, not today. Today is my Saturday. You are not here, Ling is not here, my brother didn't call. I'm going to go for a walk along the river, I'm going to have lunch at a cafe, and I'm going to think of a way to politely and gently tell you and the team that I'm a 23 year old woman and not a 19 year old boy. Because finding out something like that by accident from a nosey prince is definitely not how anyone should find out big secrets."
Roy wasn't sure what to do, he was still confused but his anger was burning out. Maybe he could talk to Ling about this, the prince seemed like he knew more than Roy did. He watched as Ed gathered a hat and a wallet and left her own apartment just as Ling came back in through the window.
"How long have you known Ed is a woman?"
"Huh? Oh, uh, 4 minutes."
Mustang was incredulous. "And you want to marry her?"
"Well, she's short, she'd match the rest of the court appointed wives in the Xing kingdom."
"...As good a reason as any I suppose."
"Right?!"
Mustang smirked at Ed's back through the open door as she disappeared around the corner across the street. He knew she'd heard them from her hands twitching. He also knew Ed wasn't going to go to Xing to be a court appointed wife, so the only thing to do was wait. Ed clearly trusted him to look after her apartment and he was interested to see how she was going to break the news to him and his team on Monday.
She could have Saturday.
