Hey, fairy tail fans, and welcome back to a fairy tail re-told; the final day of the grand magic games has begun as each team has gone all out with their members and teams, and now only three remain. Will Mavis' operation fairy stars lead fairy tail to victory, or will the other teams be too much for them to handle? fond out the answers to these questions and more on a fairy tail re-told
side note: as many of may have noticed I published a new story yesterday as I said in chapter 169 it wouldn't have an effect on this story as I'm just rolling out updates for it at this point and if I'm being honest that story will be done by the end of the week or next Sunday at the latest

Wendy: team fairy tail is going to take home the gold, that's for sure
Lucy: you got that right, but the other teams have people like Jura and Kagura. Do you think they'll be able to do it?
Wendy: it'll be hard-fought, but I know they'll pull through
Lucy: you're right. They haven't let us down before, and they won' start now
Wendy: Yeah, let's go fairy tail
"You remember what I told you, "He said, "that your enemy can use your allies against you," he said as a memory flashed in Gray's mind forcing him back up, it was the sight of Meredy holding Juvia. The memory was fresh on his mind but seeing it again made him think about she almost died on Tenrou Island as Gray shook his head as he was struck again, forcing him to the ground.
"How did you," Gray asked
"Memory is a powerful thing," he teased, "and yours is right with so much" he smiled, "trauma."
"he'll pay for that," Gray growled as he punched the wall; he had tried hard to forget that had even happened to, but seeing it again brought back that fear he felt when he saw Juvia in that state.
In one of the libraries of Crocus, Gray walked into a small room. He smiled as he found his target "you know Mavis told me you would be hiding here," Gray said "guess she was right," he said
"You seem to have vanished from my memory," Rufus said as he closed the book in his hands "would you care to remind me who you are" he said giving Gray an evil grin as he placed the book on the ground
"don't worry," Gray said, "you won't forget me after I'm done" he smiled, "cause I'm going to be the guy who knocks you out."
Gray vs. Rufus: maker wizard showdown
"Looks like Gray and Rufus have met each other in the library," Lola said, "and it looks like he's not going to keep quiet."
"Two different maker magic going against each other," Levy muttered
"Gray better watch out," Elfman said "that guy really worked him over the last time they fought," Elfman said, remembering how effortlessly Rufus gained the upper hand on Gray the last time they fought "that guy is stronger than he looks."
"You knew that they were going to meet in Library," Romeo asked
"And I bet Gray's going to pummel that guy," Max said
"And I bet Mavis gave him a great strategy to do so as well," Laki said
"No, not at all," Mavis said
"what" everyone screamed
"But Juvia's precious Gray will win, right," Juvia asked
"Not sure," Mavis answered, scarring everyone even more
"Do you know the odds he has," Elfman asked
"Not sure of that either," Mavis said "what I do know is that Gray needs to beat Rufus," she explained, "he is the key to beating Sabertooth once and for all," Mavis said
Flashback
"So, wait," Erza asked. "Rufus can know where we are at all times," she asked.
"in a way," Mavis said, "but I noticed it on the first day of the games," she explained "during the event hidden while it may not seem like an odd choice for him to go, I found it weird how he knew exactly where to strike each member and not hitting a single fake" Mavis explained "the only reasonable explanation would be that Rufus has the ability to seek out another wizards magic power," Mavis said "he then uses that his advantage to strike them quickly" Mavis explained "if we take Rufus out of the equation I calculate that Sabertooth's moves will become sloppy and more predictable for you all," she said
"Then let me be the one to take him down," Gray said, standing up. "I need some payback for that first day."
"That might not be the very best plan," Mavis said. "I calculate that you are at a severe disadvantage."
"I don't care," Gray shouted. "I need to win this," Gray said. "I want to get my home back," he said, his voice choking on his words "so please let me do this," Gray asked "for my friends," he said, "for my family," he asked. Mavis said nothing, but she could see it in his heart. Slowly she looked at Natsu and Mira, who nodded their heads before she turned to him, nodding her head "thank you," Gray said
"Beating Rufus is of utmost importance, Gray," Mavis said, "we won't be able to start phase two of the operation until he is defeated."
"I understand," Gray said. "I promise I won't let you all down again."

Gray got ready to attack as Rufus closed his book "{ice make: Lance}" he said as Rufus jumped from the chair, going over gray smiling as he looked at him.
"I've memorized it," Rufus said
"Then take this," Gray shouted "{ice make: impact}" Gray called. A large hammer slammed into the ground as Rufus jumped out of the way.
"I've memorized it," Rufus said
"What are you going on about" Gray asked
"You see, any spell that I see, I can memorize," Rufus explained. "I then take that spell and create an entirely new one," he said as he got a confused look from Gray "for example, I can take your ice and combine it with Ogra's black lighting," he said. "I then combine those spells to create something even stronger," he said, smiling an evil smile at Gray "{memory make: sword of frozen black lighting}" he shouted as a large number of lightings started to strike the areas around Gray each time the lighting would strike a large ice piece would appear as Gray began to jump back.
"Wow, he can do that," Levy shouted, "he can just create magic from nothing."
"that's the manliest magic I've ever seen," Elfman said
"And now," Rufus said, "{Memory-Make: Shrine of Turbulent Fang}" he shouted a large group of tornados formed around Gray as he backed up
"That all you got," Gray called "{Ice make: shield}" Gray shouted
"I see memorized," Rufus said as his tornados started to combine, "but unfortunately for you, I will soon forget it," he said as the ice shattered sending Gray, back as he landed on the ground
"Oh no," Juvia said "come on, Gray, you can do it," she whispered
"Looks like Rufus is not holding back," Lola said. Natsu had looked up from his spot. He had noticed that Gray had started fighting, and Mavis had instructed the entire team that once the fight began, they should limit their movements until Gray was able to beat Rufus "how will Gray counter this powerful foe
"Come on, ice princess," Natsu said. "I know you got this"
"I see," Levy said, "not only can he memorize any spell, but he can also make you forget a spell as well," Levy explained
"That means that Gray can only use a spell once before he takes it away," Lucy said, "this is bad."
"You think Gray can win," Wendy asked.
"What happened," Rufus asked as he walked up to Gray "weren't you going to knock me out," he said as he picked up a book. "I see," he told him, a smile growing on his face as he picked up all the books that were on the floor "all these books such ancient witchcraft," he let out a laugh.
"Hey," Gray said, "we're not here to catch up on our reading," Gray said
"What a relief," Rufus said, "and here I thought you would wither away like a flower in the wind," Rufus said, "it's thrilling," Rufus said, "all these spells flowing through my mind, like a symphony in my mind," Rufus said "bound by my memory it will sing them the way I want them to," Rufus said "all-powerful ancient magic."

"He can do what," Makarov asked "there's no way he can do that," Makarov said
"I could create an army of ice knights," Rufus said, "with proper training, one could create a whole army of knights, each with their own skills and talents" Rufus smiled "of course, this is collaborative work," Rufus said, "as it would not be possible without your ice make magic" he smiled "I must say this ice is indeed unique in nature, now witness it at its full potential" he shouted as the knights rushed forward.
"This guy is strong," Lucy shouted, "come on, Gray, you need to take him down."
"You can do it," Wendy shouted.
"Gray, I believe. Let in you let Juvia's love for you guide you forward." Juvia shouted as Gray started to get knocked around on the pillar Ultear frowned as she watched gray fight this Rufus was indeed powerful
"Scholars created the memory make after studying the arc of embodiment," Ultear muttered, 'come on, Gray, I know you can do it." she said, "my mother is with you," she said, "and so am I"
Lyon had come to a stop as he watched Gray fight. A small part of him wanted to go and fight beside his fellow student. For one, it would be nice to stand side by side with Gray again. However, he felt that Gray wanted to do this on his own his pride was on the line, and Lyon would not get in the way for that he knew what he was feeling 'come on, Gray' Lyon thought to himself, "I know you can do this" Lyon said, "don't let Ur down."
"You may be able to copy people's magic," Gray shouted, "but this is all me," he called as he attacked again, only for the attack to bounce off "what."
"Then I guess I should use more aggressive spells to take you down," Rufus said "{Memory-Make: Blade of Flashing Lightning}" Combining forms of the magic he memorized, Rufus created a giant trapped in ice, carrying a weapon enhanced with lightning. The giant then attacks with its weapon, knocking Gray to the ground.
"That gotta hurt," Lola called "is Gray down for the count."
"How I wish I could rush to your side, my love," Juvia said absent-mindedly forgetting that her friends were next to her, "but I have to have faith in Mavis' plan," she said, "and I have faith that you can see this through"
"What is she going on about" Cana asked
"don't mind her. She's in love," Wendy said, hiding her laugh
"it's starting to get old" Carla muttered
"You could take a page from her Ever," Bickslow said
"What does that mean" Evergreen shouted
"You won't take me down," Gray shouted as he started to get back up.
"He may be down, but he's not out," Lola called.
"fine then," Rufus said, "I have plenty of other spells that I can use" a dark grin grew on his face "what fun I get to use you as a test, to see how effective they are," he said "{Memory-Make: Colorful Slashing Attack Flames} as large red wave knocked Gray back again sending him into the wall as Rufus walked up to him "your song in this battle is a haunting requiem," Rufus said, "for it seems that you have forgotten, that you will never be able to defeat me." he bragged as Gray looked at him with cold eyes as he tried to stand up.
"If Gray has a strategy, I'm not seeing it," Lola said, "this is starting to become a one-sided battle."
"He can memorize any attack he sees," Levy stated, "then erase an attack after seeing it once," Levy muttered.
"Hate to say it," Elfman said, "but Gray might not be able to win this"
"Did you at least give him a form of attack," Makarov asked, "anything to help give him an edge."
"maker magic is indeed powerful," Mavis said, "but unfortunately it is easy to memorize," Mavis said "I tried to warn him about this, but he was determined to fight Rufus," Mavis said, "in the end, it will come down to how much feeling Gray has for the power he holds," Mavis said 'Gray you already have the skills to win this battle," Mavis thought to herself 'I know you can do it."
"I never imagined you would be this stubborn," Rufus admitted, "but thanks to you, I got to memorize so many spells." he said "{Memory-Make: Showering Ancient Wisdom}" as a large circle appeared above Gray, sending him to the ground as he tried to stand up from the weight of the attack "I will crush you under the weight of my light," Rufus said, "I hope you've made your peace."
"I need to get up," Gray thought to himself. "I need to remember what Mavis told me."
Flashback
"You want a strategy to beat Rufus," Mavis asked
"Yeah," Gray answered, "seeing as you planned this whole thing out," he said, "I figured you'd have one to take him down as well" Mavis let out a sigh as she sat down. motioning for him to follow as he sat in front of her
"Your master Ur," Mavis asked "tell me about her," she asked
"I don't see what that has to do with anything," Gray said
"All in due time," Mavis said, "but I want to know about the person who taught you maker magic," Mavis asked
Gray cheeks turned pink as he looked away. "Ur was," Gray started. "Ur was amazing," he whispered "she was kind, patient, always willing to help others," he admitted. "I remember every Tuesday she made the same dish," Gray told her, "she said it was a tradition from her old family," he admitted. "I've tried to recreate it, but" Gray stopped "for some reason, it never tastes the same"
"I can see she meant a lot to you," Mavis said "and I can see how much you loved her"
"Yeah," Gray said, "though I wish I could tell her that," Gray said
"She knew Gray," Mavis said "what was the first lesson she taught you aside from how to strip in the blink of an eye," Mavis asked as Gray looked down, noticing that he was indeed in his underwear again
"She told me why maker magic was her favorite," Gray said, "she said that it all about freedom of choice, that our imagination is our only limit," Gray said "that once you master it, you create a style all of your own"
"An interesting perspective," Mavis said, "one that I would have to agree with," Mavis said, "I do believe in fact you have mastered your magic."
"You think so," Gray asked, "but I haven't even started using Dynamic ice make," Gray said
"so what," Mavis said "you may not use every part of your magic, but I do believe you have honed what you have to perfection, Gray," Mavis told him "you're master Ur taught you everything that you need to know," Mavis said "she even gave you a way to best memory make," Mavis said "the lesson is there you just need to believe in yourself," Mavis said, "let go of all you fear, and the answer will come to you."
What does that mean? How could I already have the answer? There was that one time, that one time I allowed myself actually to open up to Ur.

"Gray, what's wrong," Ur asked. The pair were sitting on the mounts, looking at the snowfall. Lyon had gone off to some practicing by himself, so it was just the two of them.
"Nothing," Gray said, looking away.
"Talking about will make you feel better," Ur said, bringing him closer though Gray attempted to scoot away. He failed as Ur just kept scooting over next to him, "it alright to let others share your pain."
"It not fair," Gray said, tears starting to form in his eyes "why, why did they have to die," he said as Ur held him, "it's just not fair."
"I know," Ur said her own experience with loss, primarily the loss of her one and only daughter came to mind "life hardy is," she whispered as she held Gray close. "btu I want you to remember this," Ur said "the people we lose are never gone," she said as she made a figurine with her ice magic "they lie in our memories," she said "similar to our maker magic it all there," she said, "never leaving and we will forever connect their hearts with you."
"I don't get it," Gray said
"you'll understand," Ur replied, "one day."

Gray smiled as the memory played in his mind. He now understood what his master meant his memory every fight he had everything he had learned and all the bonds he had forged it was all there in his memory, and no matter what happened, it would never go away "take this," Gray shouted as she shot out another attack as Rufus jumped out of the way.
"And the long-awaited counter-attack from Gray has come at last" Lola said
"aren't you just a glutton for pain," Rufus said
"I'll admit memory magic is pretty cool," Gray said "but I have memory all of my own," he said
'And what might that be" Rufus asked
"every battle, the sting of defeat, and the sweet taste of victory," Gray said "it's been beaten into me my whole life," Gray said "and no matter what you do, it won't go away," Gray said "case there the things that make me who I am" he shouted as he got ready to attack "so its high time I wipe that smug look off your face" Gray called as he shed his vest the female half of the crows gave a loud cheer as Rufus laughed.
"He took off his shirt," Cosmos asked.
"That he has," Mavis said "what does that say about me that I'm used to it" Mavis muttered
"I can't bring myself to look," Juvia screamed, "or I just might explode," she cried, blushing.
"Look like Gray means business now," Max shouted.
"Show em what you're made off, Gray," Laki screamed
"I should have guessed you'd say that," Rufus said "you so predictable it's boring," Rufus said, "but you know what they say the weakest dog barks the loudest." Rufus laughed "is this the part where I ask if you think you're being cute," he asked "then you respond that your adorable"
"damn straight," Gray said "but hey, your words not mine"
"Emotions only obscure and distorted true knowledge," Rufus said, "the only way for memory to shine through is to cut it off."
"we'll see about that," Gray shouted as he got ready "ice make."
"I've memorized it," Rufus said
"{unlimited magic}" Gray shouted as large of magic
"What," Rufus said in shock as he was surrounded by all sorts of ice weapons and other objects that he had never seen before "how could you create so many things at once" he shouted
"This every ice make spell I ever cast," Gray called "be sure to get them all," he screamed, "cause there going to take you down."
"Way to go, Gray" Lucy and Wendy shouted
"My memory," Rufus said, "I can't keep up," Rufus said, "but no, I can always keep up," he muttered as a look of anger grew on his face "what have you done" he shouted.
"{One Sided Chaotic Dance}" Gray shouted as his magic attacked Rufus, forcing him to jump out of the way as the crowd gave a loud cheer.
"a shame you've only memorized ice spells," Rufus said, "cause I've memorized powerful fire spell{memory make: karma of the burning earth}," he shouted. A large dome of fire trapped gray.
"Too bad for you," Gray shouted. "I've felt flames much hotter than that," he shouted as Rufus looked in fear as Gray closed the distance between them "now feel my {Ice Blade: Seven Slice Dance}" he called as he passed Rufus ice exploding from him as his hat was knocked off as gray turned around "and now to finish this" Gray called "{ice make: geyser}" he screamed as he was knocked to the ground as Gray gripped his hat placing it on his head.
"Looks like Gray is taking a symbol of victory," Lola called, "with an amazing come from behind victory."
Mavis let out a sigh of relief "good job, Gray," Mavis said, "I'm sorry I ever doubted you."
"he's such an icy hunk," Juvia screamed.
"Well, what do you know" Laxus muttered. "Gray was able to come through."
"I knew he could do it," Erza said
"So, I guess it's safe to move now," Mira muttered
"Alright," Natsu said
"Time to begin phase two."

Gray has conquered Rufus, giving Fairy tail the freedom to move around without being detected by the Sabertooth tigers. What other plans do our heroes have in store? Will they be able to conquer the remaining Sabertooth wizards, and what of the other teams that remain on the battlefield find out next time, on a fairy tail re-told
