Natsu: man, all this guild fighting having me think of back when we tangled with the phantom lord guild

Mira: those where the day's things were so simple back then

Lucy: I wonder what their members are up to now

Gajeel: just living life, a few of them even came to the games to see us

Lucy: really, I thought they hated us

Natsu: well, it has been seven years

"you knew him," Kagura muttered "my brother," she said, choking on her words "that bastard took him away from me; he killed Simone," she shouted, much to Erza's shock, "we were poor but happy until they took all that happiness away," she said fighting back the tears she was feeling "one night these strange men showed up in our village, it was a child hunt," she said, "I was the only one to escape."

"You were his sister," Erza muttered, "and I take you ended up with Riana."

"Yes," Kagura answered, "she took me in, trained me, gave me a home" she looked away, "and together we looked for my brother until I met Millianna. That was the day I learned he had died," she said, remembering how she cried that day how tightly Riana had held her.

"But don't worry," Millianna had told her, 'My friend killed him' she said 'Jellal is gone and never coming back.

"But that was a lie; then I took a vow," she said. "I vowed to kill Jellal," she said, "until then, I promised never to let archenemy leave its sheath."

"Simone," Erza muttered, "there's something you should know," Erza said, getting her attention. "Millianna didn't see your brother die," she revealed "she wasn't there; it was just me, him., Natsu, and Jellal," she admitted as the memory played in her mind.

"you'd resort to lies to be that killer's scapegoat."

"It would be easy to let you go on believing that," Erza said, "but it's true," Erza said, "if I weren't so weak, Simone would still be here today," she said, "so his blood lies solely on my hands." Kagura's hand went to her sword

"Kagura no," Riana shouted "calm down," she screamed as her guild members looked in horror. Kagura unsheathed her sword, and Mavis's eyes widened in horror as Lucy and Wendy closed their eyes.

"I can feel the blood lust from here," Makarov muttered

"Erza," Mavis screamed. Once the smoke cleared, they saw Erza holding her Demon Blade Benizakura.

"Sorry, but I am not allowed to die here," she said, holding her blade against Kagura.

Phantoms of the past

Flashback

"Mavis," Erza had asked as she entered the room, "do you have a moment, ma'am."

"I always do," Mavis said as she looked at the Scarlet-haired knight, "what do you need."

"I," Erza stopped as she sat down, her breathing heavy, "I need some form of advice," she said, getting a questionable look from the girl in question "as you know, Millianna is partaking in the games. She is a part of the nymph five," she said, "and yesterday she told me something that has me troubled."

"I take it has something to do with the tower of heaven," Mavis asked. "and Jellal."

"Yes," Erza said, "it's just she has so much hatred towards him," Erza said, "I understand why" she looked away, her memories of the tower of heave coming to her mind and the thought of what Millianna, Sho, Wally, and Simone must have gone through after she had left "all the lies he told them, and I'm worried" Erza admitted "worried that she'll she stopped small tears coming down her face "I don't know what to do."

"Erza," Mavis said, "what you went through in the tower of heaven is unfortunate," Mavis admitted, "and the fact that you had to go years with this pain by yourself."

"it's not your fault," Erza said

"My point exactly," Mavis said "sure, there is a lot of blame to go around, but none can go to you," she said, "you have the rest of your life ahead of you," Mavis said, "it's time for you to stop looking back and just start living it," she said

"But what about Millianna," Erza asked.

"the pain she's going through is the same pain you have," Mavis said, "the best thing you can do is be there for her, offer her a rock when she feels weak," Mavis said, "and be a guiding light when she starts to be consumed by the darkness" she smiled at her "your brave Erza, wise and strong, you may not see it, but the people around you do," she said placing her hand on hers "you of all people can do it Erza because you already have" this was enough to get a smile out of her.

"But I didn't do it alone," Erza admitted as she stood up "thank you," she said, "master."

Mavis let out a small giggle as she looked at Erza. "I'll take that," she said, "this time."

"That was close," Mavis muttered as she watched the screen as Erza stood against Kagura as she changed her into her clear heart clothing.

"How did she block Kagura's archenemy," Risley asked

"I don't know," Araña told her

"This is bad," Beth said

"Simone saved my life," Erza told her, "As did Grandpa Rob," she shouted, "and my friends," she cried, "I will not lose," she screamed.

"Running away," Kagura shouted "then I will kill you both," she screamed as she and Erza clashed. They clashed again, sending shockwaves through the whole arena as Erza was forced back into a corner only to duck to the side, their blade clashing at speeds that were hard for the audience to track "hold still and let me end your life," Kagura shouted her rage at the front "you wished to see my full power Scarlet then here it is" she said as their blades clashed again. "You will not best me."

"Your anger will be your undoing," Erza shouted as their swords clashed "you try to close yourself off, using that as your purpose," Erza told her. "All that you will have is nothing," she screamed.

"Shut up," Kagura shouted as she jumped up. "I will defeat you," she screamed as Erza ducked under her, slashing by her as Kagura landed on the ground, her sword landing next to her as Erza turned to face her.

"By letting your anger consume, you have been blinded," Erza said "you fail to see what you have gained in life," Erza said, "people who care for you, friends no family who will fight by your side no matter what." Kagura said nothing as she stood to her feet, her teeth clenching as she gripped her sword "like you, I tried that," Erza admitted, "all it did was make me weak."

"I'm not you," Kagura screamed as she and Erza clashed again Erza said nothing as she stood up as Kagura fell to the ground letting out a breath of fresh air as she turned to the girl.

"by allowing my heart to be open," Erza said, "I have unlocked my true strength."

"It's Erza," Lola shouted, "despite being battered and bruised, she managed to come out on top."

"What a true spectacle," Yajima said

"It was amazing" Mato screamed.

"She finally unsheathed her sword," Araña muttered

"and she still lost," Risley said "how did this happen," she asked

"Poor Kagura," Beth said

"she gave it her all," Riana said, "and in the end, that's what's important." she told them, 'Kagura, my child, how could I have let you go on like this' she smiled at the thought to a younger Kagura come to her mind 'please do not let this defeat stop you' she asked to no one 'I hope you allow it to make you grow.'

"And Kagura is getting back up," Lola shouted, "neither of them is going to throw in the towel."

"How," Kagura asked as she struggled to her feet.

"Because I let go," Erza said, "I stopped looking back," she said, "I have responsibilities now," Erza admitted, "a responsibility to protect my friends and loved ones a responsibility to protect my family" she smiled, "and I've chosen to start living my life the way I choose not influenced by the choices of others." she held her sword "and you should do the same" Erza begged "it's what Simone would want"

"But I need to avenge him," Kagura said as a piece of rubble fell above her

"lookout" Erza shouted as the debris landed as everyone looked in terror as the smoke cleared as She appeared having pushed Kagura out of the way, but the rock had landed on her foot "why" Kagura muttered in shock

"Because," Erza said in pain, "you may have forgotten me, but I never forgot you," she said as Kagura backed up, "we don't know each other personally, but I do remember meeting Simone's sister" she smiled

"It can't be," Kagura said

"it's true," Erza said. "I too grew up in Rosemary village," Erza said, "and I was there when we lost everything."

Flashback

the village lies in ruins as people ran in terror as the cultists chased after them "slaughter all the adults," one shouted, "grab any child you can get you hands-on," he screamed

a young Kagura stood in place "big brother," she called, "where are you" she stopped when someone grabbed her "wait, stop," she said, "I need to find my brother."

"We gotta hide," she said as she brought her to a small crate "stay here," she said, "and stay quiet."

"But what about you," Kagura asked

"don't worry," she said, bending down, showing herself to be a younger Erza. She smiled. "I'll just find another spot" she smiled at her, "just stay alive, okay" Kagura nodded as Erza closed the lid before running away, only for two of the cultists to find her grabbing her smiles on their faces as they started to leave.

"It was you," Kagura muttered "you were the one," she said as tears started to stream down her face, "I thought," she stopped her voice cracking on her words, "after everything."

"Simone and I always talked about you," Erza admitted "he hoped you were healthy and eating," she said, "I'll never forget how overjoyed he was when I told him you escaped," Erza said. "he asked me to keep you in my heart as well, a part of me never realized what that meant until I lost him" she smiled "even after he died, I hoped to one day find you so that I could put his soul at ease" she smiled, as she looked at Kagura "that why I need you to move on," she said "so he can finally rest" Erza laughed "he loved you Kagura more than anything" Erza laughed "I need you to know that"

"I need time," Kagura said as she started to wipe her tears, removing the boulder helping Erza up, "but for now, I hand" she was stopped when her sword stabbed her from behind as Minerva smiled, blood coming out of her mouth as everyone looked in horror as she threw her to the ground.

"Minerva has struck down Kagura," Lola said, "earning her team five points by taking down the leader, tying her team with fairy tail."

"I told you, Erza," Minerva said, "this is how a queen rages war," she said, "and she only dines on delicacies, the head of a mermaid, and a wing plucked fairy for dessert" she laughed "how scrumptious."

"Millianna," Kagura muttered, "please, you have to save her."

"Oh yes, the kitten," Minerva said as Millianna appeared from a bubble landing on the ground "as you can see, she's down and out," she laughed, "and with that, I have earned another point."

"And with that, Sabertooth takes the lead with sixty-two points," Lola said

"It's just a two-point gap, but the question is will fairy tail be able to bounce back," Yajima said

"Millianna say something," Erza said

"Erzy," Millianna groaned, "that you," she asked before passing out as Erza felt the warm touch of blood on her hand.

"what the hell is this," she asked.

"I started to get bored," Minerva said. "I had to find some way to entertain myself." Erza looked at her rage in her eyes as she stood to her feet

"Bad move," Makarov muttered.

"Kagura," Riana shouted, finally coming out of her shock "go, we need to get them both medical attention," she screamed.

"Right," Risley said as she and the others started to leave

"The Nymph five is now officially out of the games," Lola said, "leaving Erza and Minerva to duke it out one on one."

"That might be a challenge," Yajima said, "she's covered with injuries from head to toe."

"And Minerva came out of this as fresh as a daisy," Mato said

"It down to the queen of the fairies vs. the queen of the tigers"

Gajeel and Rogue were locked in combat on the other side of the arena. As Rogue danced around him, a smile came to his face. only for Gajeel to punch him in the gut sending him back as he unleashed multiple iron dragon clubs on him as he slid back 'damn it,' Rogue thought to himself, 'I need to beat him.'

"Well, this got boring quick," Gajeel said. "I'm out of here."

Rogue said nothing as he stood to his feet "you don't scare me," he said, standing up, "you're nowhere near as powerful as Natsu dragneel."

"What the hell did you just say," Gajeel asked, turning around

"Oh no," Happy muttered, "he pushed the Natsu button."

"shouldn't have done that," Lily muttered. "I give him eleven minutes."

"that's generous of you," Carla groaned. "I give him five."

in another part of the arena, Laxus and Ogra faced off "so the lighting god slayer Ogra" Laxus asked, "catchy name."

"Am I supposed to be flattered or something," Ogra asked

"I thought you Saberpunks liked lip service," Laxus asked, "with a name like yours that lighting must be something to behold" Laxus laughed "every time you use it our three dragons, jump in fear," he laughed. "Sorry but second place is all you're ever going to be."

"So, what you're saying yours is best," Ogra asked.

Laxus smiled "in this world, there's always someone better than you," Laxus said, "an important lesson to learn, another one that the kid taught me was to always pay attention to those under your feet" he laughed, "a great way to learn both is having your face shoved into the gravel."

"Bring it on then," Ogra said. "Let's see whose lighting comes out on top then," he shouted "lighting drakon grit your teeth cause here comes the first strike," he screamed as he blasted past Laxus, destroying a single house in the process as Laxus smiled 'what don't tell me the great Laxus is too scared to move right now."

"Come on," Laxus said, "We both know you weren't going to hit me," Laxus said "you gotta lot to learn about the art of intimidation, pal," Laxus said as he blasted off his attack destroying a good portion of the area.

"Impressive," Ogra said

"Now whose being flattering," Laxus said "we doing this sometimes today, I can't be out here playing grab-ass forever," he said as he and Ogra started to charge up there, lighting.

Lyon smiled as he turned a corner seeing Gray leaning against the wall, Rufus' hat still atop his head as he looked at his old friend and rival "please tell me you don't plan on keeping the hat."

"Took ya long enough," Gray said, standing up. "I started to think one of those Saberpunks took you out," Gray said "or you went after Kagura and she kicked your ass"

"Oh please, Gray," Lyon said. "Have a little more faith in me" he smiled. "I just wanted to give you a chance to catch your breath," Lyon said, a smile coming across his face. "I wanted our fight to be fair and square," he said, "like the old days" Lyon smiled "you know when I would kick your ass every time we sparred"

"Yeah, but that was the old me," Gray said, "and last time I checked, I won our last fight."

"True," Lyon said, "but I have seven years on you now."

"So, what do you say we see if you put that time to good use," Gray said as he and Lyon started to charge their magic, the air around them turning cold as they faced off

in their spot, Natsu and Mira let out a breath of air as they both could feel the sun starting to go into the horizon 'a few more minutes' both thought 'then we begin phase four.' in front of them Jura let out another breath of air as he looked up feeling their magic power grow, he smiled

'I merely played along because I wanted to face her children at their best, ' Jura thought to himself 'no more, no less' he smiled at the thought as he let out another breath of air,

'Soon, the real battle will begin.'

Rogue was punched the ground, coughing as he tried to stand up as Gajeel towered over him "aw man, my ear must be playing tricks on me," Gajeel said, "could have sworn you said I wasn't as strong as Natsu" Gajeel said, "cause last time I checked me and him were able to kick your ass yesterday" as Rogue let out a laugh "what's so funny."

"I think I finally figured it out," he said "why you decided to go to magnolia of all places," he said, "why you stay a solo wizard."

"Well, let's hear it," Gajeel said

"It was so long ago," Rogue muttered, "so I won't blame you if you don't remember" he smiled. "I was nothing but a kid back then," he said, "a snot-nosed punk who looked up to your guild phantom lord." he said as Gajeel stopped back in shock, it had been years since he thought about his time in Phantom what it had made him, "my biggest dream as a kid as to grow up and become a member of that guild," Rogue said "but I never got the chance because the war in magnolia happened," he said "and then Phantom was forced to disband" he looked at Gajeel, "and you decide to go there," he said, "and for the life of me I could never figure out why you would choose to stay in the place that cost you your guild." he smiled "then I figured it out, you wanted friends," he said "the reason I joined Sabertooth" Rogue admitted "was because their master was a former member of phantom lord, and now I see," he said "we're nothing but his foot solders, pawns to be used and if we fail we are punished or in Yukino's case discarded" he looked away "or worse." he frowned "we aren't aloud to form bonds or make friends cause he says that will make us weak" he said "but you all are so close I can see it in the way you fight"

"Dumbass," Gajeel muttered as Rogue looked at him, "that's a load of crap, and you know it," he said, "last time I check that frog thing you have with is your friend."

"Who frosh" Gajeel nodded, "he's a cat, you moron."

"Well, if you wanna be technical about it, he's an exceed," Gajeel said "ain't he"

"Yes, he is," Rogue said

"Your best friend," Frosh said

"Thank you for" Rogue stopped. He felt a shadow go over him.

"Rogue, you need to kill Gajeel."

"what" he shouted "where is that voice coming from" he screamed

"You okay, kid" Gajeel asked

"You have to kill him."

"Who are you, and why can't I see you" Rogue shouted

"I am your shadow; I will lend you my strength," it said "now go and strike him down," he screamed as Rogue struck Gajeel punching him into a wall

"Gajeel" Levy and Lily screamed

"Did he say something to offend him" Jet asked

"I don't know." Romeo said

"This is the power we can wild together, Rogue," the shadow said, "now let us strike him down without hesitation."

"I Don't know what your deal is," Gajeel said, "but if a fight you want, it's a fight you'll get"

"Why are they fighting," Romeo asked, "I thought they made peace."

"Wipe the floor with that jerk," Levy shouted.

"{Iron dragon: sword}" Gajeel shouted as Rogue turned into a shadow, attaching himself to Gajeel's sword, sending him into a wall.

"Why Rogue" Frosh asked

"{shadow dragon: slash}" Rogue screamed as he continued to attack Gajeel

"Where is he," Gajeel asked

"Behind you" Rogue's voice came as he attacks Gajeel again

"what's going on," Makarov asked

"I Don't know," Mavis said, "but to me, it looks like he was possessed by something," she said 'that magic in all my years I've never seen anything like it, it feels so evil'

on top of the arena, a look of horror came across the hooded person's face 'oh no,' she whispered, "I going to have to step in," she said, "the consequence be damned, I can't lose one of them" as Gajeel tried and failed to grab Rogue, but he kept disappearing

"He was able to grab him in shadow form a second ago." Wendy said, "did his magic change."

"I guess Rogue was right," the shadow said, "you nowhere near as powerful as Natsu Dragneel," it said, "but of course, he is no match for me either," he said as he grabbed Gajeel "it's hard to believe that I once looked up to you" he laughed "how pathetic."

"Oh no," Levy screamed as Lily looked in terror, "Gajeel."

"I need to get Rogue back," Frosh said as he ran through the halls." before it's too late."

"It won't be too long before the shadows consume you," Rogue said "then this world will be rid of you" he smiled as he tossed Gajeel to the ground, "no begone."

'I'm out of magic power" Gajeel said 'but I have one more trick. He smiled as he tried to sit up, "if Salamander can pull it off then I sure as hell can' Gajeel reasoned as he closed his hand. before he started to consume the shadow around him

"what" Rogue shouted

"No way he ate the shadows," Levy asked

"Natsu did that when we fought hades," Wendy whispered, "it's how he got lighting flame dragon mode."

"I see," Mavis said

"That has to be the most impressive thing I've seen," Makarov said, "you kids discovered a way to eat other elements."

"You could say that" Wendy answered.

"I don't know what you are," Gajeel said, "but you better get out of his body or else," Gajeel shouted.

"You want me to leave Rogue," the shadow asked.

"You think you'd get to know the guy before you go and possess him," Gajeel said "his name ain't Rogue. It's Ryos, and he's my sworn brother," Gajeel said "you can lie to yourself all you want, but we both know I wasn't that kinda guy back then," he said, "be honest you didn't look up to me, you feared me."

"I was never afraid," Rogue shouted as Gajeel stood up. Iron scales started to appear on his body "no, an iron shadow dragon."

"Perhaps you forgot," Gajeel said, bearing his fangs "cause I'm such a nice these days" he smiled "don't worry, I'll remind you," he growled out.

"I'll make you remember that fear."
