A's note:

I don't claim to have any extensive knowledge on medicine, this chapter has been done with research but not thoroughly, do not use this chapter as a basis for you to attempt an operation if ever you get isekai'd to another world.

People are such fragile beings, Orochimaru thought.

"He's in hemorrhagic shock. If this goes on, he'll be losing oxygen in half an hour." Hatsue says. "We're pressed for time, let's have a tent set up right here."

"Can you really save him?" Tsunade dared hope, asking the kunoichi from Suna.

"I have done this before, he's not a lost cause." The eleven year old girl answers.

Two konoha-nins moved Dan's body inside the tent, he was placed on the makeshift bed summoned from Hatsue's storage scroll. The blonde woman and the sable head girl follows inside.

"Why did you stop me from using healing jutsu on him?"

"What's your theory on healing jutsu?"

"It's sending chakra into the wounded part of the body and accelerating the healing properties of the body."

"That's the definition of a healing jutsu, Lady Tsunade." Hatsue deadpanned. "You don't have any theories on the healing jutsu?"

Orochimaru appears inside, making the tent crowded with five people in it. The Snake Sannin sends the two shinobi to stand by outside as he watches the girl takes out a clear rubber tube, a couple of syringes, a small rubber pump the size of a palm. He was about to witness an operation and the scientist in him anticipates in gross concentration. He didn't like Dan but he didn't want... him to die. Dan was still breathing, albeit losing blood. Good. Keep breathing, Danny boy.

"Do you need me to help?" He asked the girl.

The girl stared at him with surprise, brown orbs meet golden ones. "Will you please sterilize these for me? They've never been used but just to be safe."

He takes the things she took out moments before from her.

"Has the bleeding slowed down yet?" Hatsue asked.

"Yes."

"What's the patient's blood type?"

"Type A. Why?" Tsunade has never felt more lost at the moment. A foreign shinobi is acting more of a medical-nin in that moment more than her. She sits on the edge of the bed holding her boyfriend's right hand.

"Blood transfusion."

"What-"

She gives them a sardonic smile. "Our medical jutsu training might not be on par with yours in Konoha but Suna find methods to make up for the lack of skill. Healing jutsu accelerates healing properties, yes?"

"Yes." Orochimaru affirms her statement.

"But what if it's not just healing properties, it accelerates."

"What do you mean?" Tsunade has never looked more bewildered.

"But what if it accelerates the state of the body? With minor wounds, blood clots fast, so when we use mystical palm it heals the wound because the body is at the state of healing itself but say, our patient right now for example is bleeding excessively, so using mystical palm accelerates his bleeding state, and when his bleeding stops, it means he doesn't have any more to bleed. Didn't you notice that while you were using healing jutsu on him? Even from afar, I could see the more you healed him, the more blood there was. You got the stains all over your pants and cheeks and your hands." Hatsue stops and wrinkles her nose at the princess. "Oh, do please wash your hands and sanitize lest you risk infection to our patient, not that he isn't at risk for it."

The Slug Princess was taken aback and then she walks at the entry of the tent to clean her hands with rainwater. "So a blood transfusion?"

"Tsunade-hime, you're asking stupid questions."

"Oh, for Dan!" Her face lights up. "You can use mine."

"Is your blood type A?" Hatsue asked.

"My blood type's B." Tsunade replied and then thoughtfully added, "Orochimaru's type B as well."

The girl shook her head at them. "I can't take yours. It has to be blood type A or O. If I use your blood, it might cause severe reaction, we're adding foreign blood cells inside a patient so it has to be as similar to that of the patient's, or else the patient's immune system will attack the donated blood cells and cause them to burst. Is any of the Konoha-nin outside have blood type A or O?"

One of the Konoha-nin walks back inside and offered himself a volunteer, thankfully a type O. The girl summons a stool out of the storage scroll, had the man sit on it, and a small squared linen; she poured antiseptic on it and wipes it on the man's right forearms.

"What's your name?"

"Satoru." The Konoha-nin had buzzcut dark hair, large nose, wide set pair of black eyes and a square shaped face.

"Satoru-san, I'll be taking the blood from you using this syringe, which I will attach the rubber tube and flow into this rubber bag. I'll be taking two pints from you." Hatsue flicks the anterior of Satoru's right forearm, just a little below his elbow, making the median cubital vein visually identifiable. She takes the syringe and inserts the needle in the vein with skilled precision, she pulls the plunger a little and detaches the barrel from the stopper and connects the tube attached to the bag.

The two Sannins watch in grotesque fascination as the blood flows from the needle, to the bag, filling it up steadily. Orochimaru couldn't help but ask,

"How does Suna come up with this?"

"Our hospital has been doing blood transfusions even before I was there, hence the equipment. According to my lessons, this method was developed by a Suna medical-nin whose chakra coils were underdeveloped, she couldn't perform healing jutsu as much as she wants, so she researched, experimented and developed various operations that doesn't rely on the Mystical Palm Technique." Hatsue prepares another syringe, wipes Dan's left forearm. "Ah, hell, I just gave out exclusive Suna medical techniques."

"Your theory ... how did you come up with that?" Orochimaru again, prompted. This was new knowledge, it was revolutionary, the very thought of healing jutsu as a harmful technique was sacrilegious.

"I trained under Chiyo-baa-, Elder Chiyo, reknowned poison specialist, but she works on antidotes too. That made me wonder, if healing jutsu can only heal, why do we need antidotes?"

Tsunade gawked, the very question never crossed her mind. Satoru and Orochimaru did too.

The eleven year old girl and smirked, the smile she learned from watching Risa. "Haishh, tree huggers, so overconfident with everything, so gifted with shinobi techniques. Anyways, it led me to the question how does healing jutsu work? "

"Pouring chakra onto the wounded to accelerate healing process of the body." Satoru was pulled in the conversation.

"To test my theory, I consumed poison from Sasori-"

"YOU CONSUMED POISON?" Satoru's outburst.

Hatsue giggled, actually giggled. Tsunade scoffed in disbelief muttering something about Sand citizens probably drinking poison for tea at breakfast, to which Hatsue replied white sage tea is only poisonous in wrong doses. Orochimaru gives the girl a grin saying something about testing poison on oneself is an occupational hazard. She then proceeds to inject the syringe and, takes off the barrel and attaches the stopper cap to the tube which she takes from Satoru.

"Is he going to be alright?" Tsunade asks, worriedly, she felt pathetic when she was the one assuring Dan he was going to be alright, now she's asking a girl, younger than her, to reassure her. Pathetic.

"If his body doesn't reject the donor's blood and hopefully he doesn't have allergic reactions." Hatsue gives the blonde a small smile. "I consumed poison and I tried to heal myself-"

"I've never heard someone-"

"You're too young to be flirting with death."

"What's flirting?" The girl proceeds to take out the embedded needle from Satoru's arm, takes out a small clump of cotton, and sticks a bandaid to the spot.

"You know, asking for it." Satoru shrugged, then drops his head upon being sent a glare his way by the two Sannins.

"I wasn't asking to die, it was a controlled experiment, I had Elder Chiyo and Sasori on standby. When I healed myself, well, healing made it worse and the usual estimate for that particular poison for its symptoms to kick in was 30 minutes but within the five minutes I continuously tried to heal myself, it kicked in."

"Oh, joy." Satoru remarked sarcastically.

"But worth it! Don't you understand? This supports my theory, using healing jutsu on a patient who's poisoned accelerates the spread of poison. I haven't really worked extensively on this theory but after this mission, I'll work on it."

"oh, Kami. A genius." Satori wheezed.

"Genius? No, have you heard of Sasori-"

"Tsunade-hime, we need Suna's alliance."

The princess nodded, mind already abuzzing on the process, the paperwork, the damn clan heads and- Sensei wouldn't say no. "We need a united front on this Orochimaru, you're his favorite."

The androgynous man only smiled haughtily. "Of course. Hatsue-chan, what do you think about learning medical ninjutsus in Konoha?"

The girl stared at them blankly, "Yeah.. nope."

#01 The Talk

Ebizo rubs a hand to his face recalling the clinical, detached and stoic expression his grandnephew had when the boy asked him questions.

#02 Permission

He, an Honored Sibling, listens to Hajime, Hatsue-chan's father. The man is asking him whether Hajime could talk to Sasori about consent. His grandnephew wasn't in trouble at all, he'd always been so formally polite to them and Hajime admires that. Hajime wants Sasori to continue being a morally upstanding boy.

#03 Maneuvers

It didn't take long for the council to unanimously agree that Iwa needs to be taken a few pegs down. They gave Konoha a tip of Kannabi Bridge, Iwa's supply line.

#04 Comfort

He awkwardly pats his grandnephew on his shoulders, upon returning from Hatsue-chan's house. The sullen look on the boy's face tells him she wasn't home yet.

That Komushi. The boy who hangs around Sasori had a way of making him and Chiyo smile; they love Hatsue but Sasori also needs diverse friendships.

I have heard that Aconite

Being timely taken hath a healing might

"The patient's in spasm, I can't perform surgery if I don't give him neurotoxin."

"That's venom. You're poisoning my comrade, you desert filth. I will not let you kill him."

"It's a controlled drug! I won't let him die."

"Tsunade-hime, this is outrageous!"

Hatsue explains. "Listen the venom will relax the muscles, I will not let it kill your comrade, I have an antidote ready, but if you want, you can have Tsunade-hime watch me perform the surgery."

"Why can't Tsunade-hime be the one to heal him?"

"You insult Suna's delegate, shinobi. And the patient's kidney is crushed, the internal bleeding will kill him before I could heal him so let Kango-hei do her work unless you know how to perform a surgery."

"Whoah, I never noticed this before. Are these yours?" Komushi pointed at the paintings on the walls. "WAIT, THESE ARE FISHES! That's so cool! They look like flowers from afar."

Sasori scowls and pulls Komushi away from the painting. "Hatsue gave them to me."

"Are these dragons? Wow shuriken tree, wouldn't that be convenient, no need to keep buying them if we can grow shurikens on the tree. Oh a sketch portrait of you. What's wrong?"

"Nothing." Sasori flops on his bed face down. That was new, he was always so mechanical that to see him doing something so human threw Komushi off.

"Still can't send letters to Hatsue, huh?"

"Couriers are on halt because of Iwa."

"Are we sure Konoha is losing?"

"Well Konoha has two problems: Iwa and Rain."

"They have plenty named shinobis: White Fang, Yellow Flash, the three Sannins."

"Hatsue should be safe."

"Yeah."

"She's only at the borders so she's not in danger."

"Yeah."

"How come I never see her there in between missions?"

"It happens. Don't worry too much, she can take care of herself. Soon, we'll be hearing her name around. Boy, I am so jealous."

"Why?"

"Being famous? It's the glory, Sasori. And I just want to be able to make enough money so mom can be at ease."

"I never thought about it."

"Why would you? Everyone has their own little world, you and Hatsue are pretty well off with you being a grandson of a council member and Hatsue having merchant parents. Explains why she read so many books not available here in Suna."

"And why the rose petal jam they have has a fragrant flavor to it."

"What? I never tasted one before, they're expensive. I'm from a single mother household, can't afford that."

"There's a bunch of them in the fridge, help yourself, they taste like strawberries. But ours don't have the fragrant flavor."

"Cool. Thank you. How can fragrance be a flavor?"

"... you'll know when you eat it." The red head sighed. "I prefer Hatsue's presence over her absence."

"... Sasori, you know there's an easier way to say that, right?"

"what?"

"I'm teaching you how to say you miss Hatsue instead of vague statements. C'mon, say it."

"I prefer Hatsue's presence than her absence."

"Say you miss her."

"..."

"For the love of-, I'll just go get my jam now. Thank you."

"Kango-hei? Some say she heals patients differently."

"I heard about that! Poison, venom, etcetera. She calls them medical drugs."

"She saved Tsunade-sama's lover, Dan Kato, anyone know him? Handsome guy. He was bleeding, at death's door, he was a lost cause bleeding like that. No matter how much Tsunade healed him-"

"I heard about that, man, Satoru says the kid's a genius. Saved Dan when Tsunade-sama couldn't."

"So she used the poison or venom to treat other poison or venom or to perform surgery, kept death from snatching her patients' lives."

"Using them, a thing used to kill as a means to save, huh. Seems ironic to me."

"I heard crazier talk about the kid being loved by Shinigami so much, any patient she deems to save, shinigami turns away."

"Shinigami's lover."

"..."

"Pfft-"

A boisterous laugh. "That's crazy. This war must be getting to our heads."

I have exams next week.

To carolinamaiah

Thanks for leaving a review! Healing jutsu has always confused me, like how does it work? How can it replenish chakra? When you heal yourself where does the chakra you expend in youtself go? This chapter is for you.
