Prologue

All those years ago his godfather Sirius had told him that dying was faster than falling asleep. The first time he died, he found out it was. This time though it was anything but fast.

His life blood was leaving him courtesy of a piercing hex straight through his abdomen. It was flowing faster than his magic could repair, he couldn't stop it and he knew it. The pain was all encompassing, death held him in her embrace.

His miserable life flashed through his eyes. He saw the 10 years of hell that he suffered at the hands of his miserable relatives, he saw his years at school, a school that turned into a house of horrors.

His regrets flashed through his mind. He regretted not saving those dearest to him. He regretted letting his temper hold him back. He regretted not seeing through the lies and manipulations that dogged him. He regretted leaving his son.

He didn't just see the bad though, he saw the good. He saw himself forging lasting friendships with Ron, Hermione, Nevile, Luna, and the Twins. He saw himself overjoyed at joining the magical world. He witnessed his interactions with Tonks as they discovered his metamorph ability, it brought them together, making her one of his best friends.

The best he saw was his godson, Teddy. He didn't just see it thought he felt it. He felt the love he had for who would become his son. He saw his first steps, his first words, and his first train ride towards Hogwarts, a train he had just dropped him off at 3 weeks ago.

As he lay there dying, he regretted the most not being they're for his son. How his son would grow up without his father, at least he still had Andromeda. His heart broke that his son would lose another father. At least his son wouldn't have to deal with the people that killed him, he managed to take them out, even at the cost of his life.

What he saw last was the smiling shifting face of his son, and then he died.

.

.

.

He didn't expect to feel no pain.

He didn't expect to wake up again.

He wasn't surprised though, at least until Death stood in front of him, and offered him a path forward.

He almost didn't take it.

He had lost everything, what was the point of doing it again in another world.

.

.

.

But he was tempted.

His family was alive.

A family he never knew.

A sister he never had a chance to meet.

He died there on October 31st, 1981.

He would arrive from the veil on the day of the battle for the ministry.

.

.

.

But Teddy didn't and wouldn't exist.

Remus Lupin died on October 31st, 1981.

His son wouldn't be there.

He would never see him again.

Or would he, he wasn't sure how the after worked.

.

.

.

Harry James Potter was tempted.

.

.

.

So, he took the leap

And then it began.

AN: This was the initial prologue I wrote for A New Dimension Same Problems. I changed a lot in the initial chapter. For one Harry was older, 29. Originally it was going to be just Harry/Tonks. I'm currently stalled on the story. My outline for the story deviated to the point where I lost what I was doing. This chapter was inspired by the end scene in Sandman Overture.

I plan on making minor changes to chapter 1 and completely gutting chapter 2. People did not like the deathly hallow story I did and while I liked it, I realized it didn't fit. I plan to get rid of that completely, if I ever make a PJ crossover than I'll probably use it.

I'm probably going to drop the lordship angle and Harry/Fleur, since he would now be 11 years older, whereas Tonks would only be like 6 or 7 years younger. He also had no prior relationship with either woman, completely devoting his life to fatherhood.

In the next week or 2 I will be deleting the first two chapters and posting the rewrite of chapter 1. So, if you want to save it or something do so, I will not be reposting them.

In the prologue I'm intentionally vague, in the original outline it would have amounted to more. I originally had him die to show that he was not invincible even if he was a powerful combatant. It would have made his fight with Riddle even more significant because Riddle would underestimate him.

In the original outline Harry is darker and more jaded. Leaving Teddy scars him deeply, especially knowing he will never see him again. I deviated and made him more sarcastic and arrogant. I will be dropping that and making him more ruthless than anything.

In clarification:

Redoing chapter 1 and completely shredding chapter 2

Harry is older 29

Harry is more unforgiving

Just Harry/Tonks

Much Darker and Violent story

Also still looking for an editor. I've written like 800 words for the next chapter of an Unexpected Development but I'm having major writer's block. Instead of writing, I did nothing and sat around playing games. Until 3 days ago I started writing another story, of which I wrote 20k words in less than 2 days. I doubt I'll post it, it's my version of a marriage contract story with a time travel spin. Harry/Katie/Tonks. If I do post it, I'll probably do 1 chapter a week, once I have 10 chapters saved up, rather than the 4 I have now. I also am making progress with Teddy Lupin a Return. LMK what you want me to do.
