Nick was not surprised to enter the eisbiber lodge and find several tables near bending under the weight of food.
"A lot of good food should help make it easier for Hank and Wu to accept that wesen exists." Nick thought.
Hank and Wu were certainly puzzled as they made their way into the building. As per Nick's request, they left their service weapons locked up in their vehicles. Out of respect for the peaceful people of the lodge.
Wu had even more respect when he saw all of the food set out for the party. "Wow, that's quite a buffet! I like your friends already, Nick."
Grimm
The dinner was going really well. Wu had gotten into a conversation about video games with a few eisbiber. And Hank had been talking with another eisbiber who was a huge car enthusiast as well.
Nick was a little concerned the eisbiber would be intimidated by Monroe, but as soon as the blutbad noticed one wearing an antique watch and started going into the history of the makers of that particular timepiece, it relieved the tension. Before long, many other eisbiber were talking with Monroe about some of their timepieces that had been passed down through several generations.
Nick suggested that they waited until after dinner and before dessert was served for the big wesen reveal. And because he was the grimm, all of the eisbiber were quick to agree with him. Since the eisbiber were the first one who were supposed to woge first, that meant the others also had to agree, not that any of them disagreed with Nick. They all trusted that he knew Hank and Wu well and so would know what was best.
Nick asked Adalind to help with the introduction. Since she was so eloquent, he believed she was best suited to explain everything.
"There's a part of this world that you have never seen. Most go through their whole lives never knowing this part of the world even exists. But since the both of you work so closely with Nick, it's inevitable that you would one day come face to face with this world. And it's best that you first experience it in the safest way possible."
"Remember, you're not in any danger. Everyone here is my friend." Nick assured his fellow officers of the law.
He nodded his head toward Bud and Phoebe Wurstner.
"We're what is commonly called eisbiber." Bud explained.
Hank and Wu took a step back in surprise when the husband and wife took on beaver like features.
"In the community known as wesen, eisbiber are known to be hard working and considered to be the least threatening." Adalind motioned with her hand to some of the other eisbiber attendees, who took it as their queue to woge.
"We've eaten the food that they made. We've talked with them about some things we have in common. And they were nice enough to let us use their lodge for this get together. Obviously they have no intention of hurting anyone."
"Just as long as you don't insult their cooking, then the wives might kill you." Bud blurted out, earning him a glare and an elbow to the ribs from his wife.
Strangely enough, that scene was enough to cut the tension and make nearly everyone chuckle.
Except for Bud, who was rubbing his side in discomfort.
"There's more than just eisbiber in the wesen world."
Freddie and Rosalee took that as their queue to step forward and woge.
"My brother and I are fuchsbau." Rosalee said.
"We're known for being intelligent, cunning and clever." Freddie announced proudly. "We make great business owners."
"Not so good in the modesty department, though." Nick said, causing another round of giggles.
"Also not so frightening." Adalind said. "There are many extremely frightening looking wesen in the world. Two kinds of which are here."
Monroe stepped forward. "Remember, I'm Nick's friend. I'm not here to hurt anyone." Then he woged.
Even knowing what was coming, many eisbiber still gasped and took several steps back.
"It's still me guys. I'm fully in control." Monroe's voice came out as a rumble as he spoke through his woge.
The law enforcement officers were glad they had been told to leave their service weapons behind. Hank visibly had reached for his gun, before remembering it wasn't there, and then remembering he was in no danger.
Wu had backed up several feet, in an attempt to get away, before he too came to his senses and remembered he had been around the clock maker all evening and had enjoyed the guy's company.
"What you've seen so far are animal wesen. But not all wesen have their other selves connected to the animal kingdom. My kind, hexenbiest, are very different."
Nick kept his arm wrapped around Adalind as she woged. Most of the other's had to look away from the sight, but Nick kept his eyes on her and never flinched away. Nick's reaction made it easier for Hank and Wu to take it in that their friend's girlfriend has a monstrous side.
Everyone returned to their human form and Adalind continued with the explanation. "What you have been seeing is a woge. We are mostly using the German phrases since Nick is of mostly German ancestry and has learned most terms from that bloodline."
Hank and Wu stared in shock as Adalind levitated one of the grimm journals she and Nick had brought along toward the two men.
"Nick is not wesen. He is a grimm. In the wesen community, those such as him are either greatly feared or highly respected. But his other side is not something any human can see. Only wesen can see it."
Still floating in the air, the book opened to reveal its contents.
"There are many types of wesen. And we come from many different types of cultures."
"My ancestors wrote about their encounters with wesen. Unfortunately, sometimes those encounters were more about the ignorance and bigotry the grim had toward the wesen."
"And sometimes it was the wesen's own bigotry that caused it to be violent toward the grimm."
"So the fact that the two of you are dating is not normal?" Wu asked, motioning his hand from Nick to Adalind.
"Let me put it this way, I'm worried my own mother is going to try to kill Nick, or me, or both of us for betraying our kind."
Hank gave a long whistle. "Leave it to you to go the epic route with your love life, partner."
Nick shrugged with a grin. "I love Adalind and am willing to do anything to protect what we have. And that's why I need all of my friends in the know. There's some who would try to use our weaknesses against one another. I need us all to protect ourselves and each other. The two of you knowing about the wesen world will prevent someone from using the element of surprise when attacking you. And it will make you aware of the dangers."
"So some of the cases we've been on that seemed a little weird?"
"Wesen were involved." Nick nodded.
Wu snarked "Leave it to Nick to live up to the phrase, "Keep Portland Weird".
