Nick was happy to have all of his friends in the same area and in the know. Adalind's mother hadn't been seen for a while but that could only mean that she was up to something.

At the very least, Nick had his friends working together to find a solution to preventing him and Adalind from losing their special abilities.

Catherine Schade hadn't been seen for a while, but Nick was sure she was lurking somewhere and plotting. He just knew she was a selfish person who would do anything she could to make her daughter obedient and live the life that only she approved of.

Nick wished there was a way to get a hold of his own mother, it would give him peace of mind to have another grimm around in the fight.

He also missed Trubel. Though more out of missing his protégé. He had always thought of her as a younger sister, or a little like a daughter. His family would be complete if he had her around as well.

Proving that time had shifted, Nick ended up running into Trubel, literally, much sooner than he had in the previous timeline.

Grimm

"Trubel?" Nick gasped in shock.

She was much younger than before but he still recognized her instantly. It seemed The Staff might have shifted some things and it was giving Nick the chance to be more of a father type to the younger grimm than he had been in the original timeline.

She game out of nowhere, a dirty mop of raven hair and torn clothes. It was obvious that she was a runaway.

And at the moment she was running away from three male wesen.

One needn't be a detective to be able to read the situation and see that the little girl was desperate to get away from the three young men who were obviously intent on hurting her. Maybe even killing her.

In her attempt to get away, she had ended up colliding with Nick, who had instantly wrapped his arms protectively around her, just as he had done with many a scared child.

The moment the wesen men realized they were face to face with a full grown grimm, they quickly turned around and ran away.

"They wanted to kill me." Trubel insisted.

"I believe you." Nick assured the little girl. He then pointed to Hank. "We're detectives. If you come with us, we can get your statement and maybe arrest those guys."

"No, you'll just send me back to that foster home. I hate it there."

"I'll call a friend of mine, maybe she can help, but I really need you to trust me. Just for a little while, okay?"

She gave him a dubious look but got into the car.

As Hank drove them to the precinct, Nick called Adalind and asked her to meet him there. That he needed her help.

Grimm

"Theresa Rubel, twelve years old." Wu read the sheet. "Her parents were killed three years ago. No other next of kin could be located so she was put into the foster care system."

Nick looked at the scared little girl trying to mask her fear with anger and a tough exterior. There was no donut in his mind that she was already seeing wesen. He remembered that girls got the sight before boys.

She probably felt lost in a world she didn't understand.

He got a soda, a bag of potato chips and a snack cake from the vending machines, then he sat beside her, handing her the treats and confessed softly.

"What you see, I see too. You're not alone anymore."

She looked at him with surprise. So he gave her a warm smile and continued. "I saw a beautiful woman turn into a rotting corpse. I was so shocked. For a moment I thought I was going crazy. But she seemed just as surprised as I was. You see, our eyes had met when it happened. And I realized that what I saw was real."

"Did she try to hurt you?"

"She was going to. She thought I was going to hurt her so she thought to hurt me first. But you know what I did?" NIck asked in a conspiratorial whisper.

"What?" Trubel leaned forward, eager to hear.

"I made her my girlfriend." Nick replied with a triumphant grin.

Trubel gasped in disbelief.

"If you don't believe me, you can ask her. Here she comes now." Nick motioned to the beautiful blonde walking into the bullpen.

Nick greeted Adalind with a quick kiss, then explained "She's a grimm. Her parents were murdered by siegbarste when she was nine. She knows nearly nothing about the wesen world and why she can see people change into creatures."

"Can you really change into a rotting corpse?" Trubel asked.

"I can do all sorts of things." Adalind woged, just enough for only grimms and other wesen could see."

The little girl took a step back. But when she looked at Nick and saw that he was completely unafraid, and then looked back at the blonde and saw she was human again and still smiling, she stepped forward again.

Nick knew he wanted to have Trubel with him, but he was unsure how Adalind would react to him taking in a twelve year old grimm.

Showing that he could still be surprised, Adalind said, "I'll get the paperwork started for the adoption. I know several wesen who work in the child advocacy department. Once I explain to them the situation we're dealing with, I doubt we'll have any problems."

"Congratulations, it's a girl." snarked Wu.

"Mazal Tov," Hank added

Grimm

Normally, courts would be hesitant to allow a single man custody of a child, but Adalind was an exceptional lawyer. She showed that Nick was a well respected detective with a steady income and a reputation for being passionate about saving kids and taking down anyone who tried to hurt them. There was also plenty of proof that Nick had a circle of friends who could and would help out at any moment.

A little bit of manipulation got a wesen judge appointed to the case. Once he heard the child in question was a grimm, and her potential guardian was a grimm dating a hexenbiest, he could not sign the papers fast enough.

It was to everyone's benefit that a grimm be raised by another grimm, especially one who was open minded and would be able to teach the whole truth about wesen, and not just the bad parts.

Nick assured Trubel that she could call him Nick if she were more comfortable with it. And that no matter what, he considered her to be family.

Grimm

Nick's apartment was one bedroom. Since Nick was always with Adalind anyway, the hexenbiest suggested he and his new ward move in with her.

"We can turn my home office into a bedroom. We both know kids do better when they have stability."

Nick was more than happy to agree. He didn't even care that his and Adalind's sex life would need to be toned down from that point on.

"Maybe we should look for a bigger place. A house with a yard, multiple rooms so Trubel can have a bigger bedroom and you can still have your home office. And it might be smart to have a room for grimm weapons, hexenbiest potions and all of our informative journals."

Adalind smiled brightly, wrapped her arms around Nick's neck, gave him a kiss on the lips and said, "I think that's a great idea. I'll call a friend of mine who is in real estate."

Nick really should have anticipated that the very moment the eisbiber heard that Nick had adopted a child and was looking for a house, they would be very eager to help.

I tried to have Catherine cause mischief, but Trubel insisted on showing up. So the horrible mother will have to wait a little while longer for her part of the story.
