Trubel met several members of the eisbiber community when they showed up at Adalind's place with large baskets full of treats and several handmade blankets.
Hearing the doorbell ring, Nick answered to find Phoebe Worstner with four other women, their arms full of gifts.
"We heard that you've just adopted a grimm girl. Congratulations! We bring welcome baskets!"
Nick stepped aside to allow them entry, and chuckled when he saw Trubel's eyes go wide at the site.
"Trubel, these are eisbiber. They're friends of mine."
"We have a peach pie, a pear tartlet, banana bread, and chocolate chip cookies in this basket. Fresh baked bread with a large selection of jams, jellies, and preserves in that basket. And Martha made her special cottage pie. It's guaranteed to put some meat on your bones."
Phoebe looked at Nick and Adalind. "Bud will be coming over soon to get the details on the type of house you're interested in. Of course you'll be needing a big yard. No doubt young grimm's need lots of space to burn off lots of energy. Tabitha's brother owns a bicycle shop. He promises to have just what your family will need."
As Phoebe was talking, Trubel had already helped herself to some blueberry muffins she discovered in another basket that had a blue and white quilted blanket covering it.
"I put some sweet butter in that basket as well." An eisbiber woman said with pride. "My family has a dairy farm."
"Spread some of my homemade strawberry preserves on that and it will make a lovely treat." A third eisbiber woman added.
The second woman looked irritated by that suggestion and woged.
Trubel's eyes went wide, but Nick was relieved that she didn't gasp in surprise, since she would have choked at her muffin.
"Oh, that's even creepier when a child's eyes do that." A fourth eisbiber woman pointed out.
"Do what?" Trubel asked through a mouthful of food.
"Don't talk with your mouthful, honey." Adalind said automatically. Then she blushed when she saw Nick looking at her with a wide smile and she realized that she was already talking like a mother.
Trying to defuse her own embarrassment, Adalind explained. "Wesen can tell you're a grimm because when you see them woge, your eyes become fully black. So black, that the wesen can see their reflection. It's very unnerving. In an adult grimm like Nick it's scary. In a child grimm it's even more off putting.
"Our grimm Nick doesn't judge by appearances, so we shouldn't either." Phoebe declared. "Now let's help put these things away, then we need to help the new family decide what they want for their new house."
Grimm
Sean Renard ducked out of the way as a large bronze peacock came flying through the air.
"My daughter is doing what!" Catherine Schade screamed, shattering three of the mirrors in the room."
Renard wished that he had told her the latest goings on about Adalind with a test message. He had hoped to start strategizing how they were going to turn this latest set of circumstances into an asset for them. Catherine however, could not see beyond the fact that her daughter was not only dating a man who had adopted a child, but was planning on creating a full domestic life.
"How can she do this! Betraying her kind! It's bad enough she is allowing a grimm to touch her body, but now she is planning to help raise another!"
A floor length mirror flew from one corner of the room to the other, crashing and spreading shards everywhere.
"There's nothing we can do to prevent her from doing that. But there might be some use we can get out of it. Adalind is in a perfect position to train a grimm to protect us. We have a better chance of overthrowing the royals and the verrat with a grimm on our side. Even better to have two. It will take time, but there must be a way to get back in their good graces and align our interests."
"You're a fool, Sean Renard. Almost as much of a fool as my daughter. I will not allow there to be a chance of our pure beister blood tainted by a grimm. I would rather see my child dead than to see her bear an offspring of a grimm."
"Don't do anything stupid, Catherine. Remember, Nick isn't just a grimm, he's also a cop. One of my best. If there are witnesses to you attacking him, there will be consequences that even your hexenbiest powers can not get you out of. And I can't risk my reputation protecting someone who went after one of my men. That would look very bad for me."
"All you care about is power. The person I gave birth to has degraded herself. She's playing house with a grimm. And you expect me to just allow that?"
"I'm expecting you to think of the big picture. One day, members of my family will try something that will make Nick realize he is better off with them gone. If by that time he sees me as a friend, then I will have the chance to usurp my family and take my rightful place of power. Right now, Nick sees me as a threat, and he has too many allies, going against him would be a very bad move at the moment. "
"And what if Adalind becomes pregnant with his baby?"
"Nick would become so protective of her, that he would do anything to keep her safe, even destroy the royals. I know you don't like it, but tainted beister blood is nothing compared to finally killing those that would prevent me from having the throne."
Renard could tell that Catherine had little interest in the long game. She was determined to prevent Adalind from being with Nick. By any means necessary.
He decided to wash his hands of her. Her bigotry was blinding her, and he was certain it would cost her.
Renard refused to be anywhere near her when she paid that price.
