To say that Kelly Kessler Burkhardt was surprised to find her son living with a hexenbiest and a twelve year old grimm was an understatement.

Then to discover he was friends with a blutbad, two fuchsbau and an entire clan of eisbiber, the last of which was working on a house for him and his little family, made Kelly in awe of the unique grimm Nick had become.

Kelly would have been concerned that the hexenbiest had used some sort of potion or spell to make Nick fall in love with her, except it was obvious that she felt the same way he did.

And if it wasn't real love between them, Kelly doubted that Adalind would have allowed Nick to adopt a baby grimm. Or be friends with so many different types of wesen.

Still, Kelly couldn't help but watch Adalind closely. Though she tried to be as discreet as possible about it, so as not to offend Nick.

GRIMM

Nick was grateful to see his mother alive and well. Even more grateful that she didn't rush to chop off the heads of his girlfriend and friends.

There was still a lot of awkward tension, which Nick figured was unavoidable.

Still, no one was trying to kill each other, so he considered it a win.

GRIMM

Another reason Nick was happy to see his mother was that since she was a well traveled grimm, he hoped that she might have some information on how he would be able to keep his Portland family safe.

GRIMM

"I'm worried about someone trying to take away mine and Trubel's grimm abilities, or Adalind's hexenbiest."

"I think I might know how to help. I've come across some unique spells. There are a few beister that will help a grimm in exchange for some blood. They use it on their enemies and rivals."

Kelly made a few calls. Within a couple of hours she got the answers needed.

"To prevent a hexenbiest from having her powers taken, strangely enough requires a grimm. The spell is nearly impossible to do because it requires complete trust between the grimm and hexenbiest."

"That's understandable, grimm and hexenbiests are natural enemies. It would be a once in a million years kind of thing for them to be on friendly terms." Monroe pointed out.

"In this case, it has to be really friendly terms. Though I highly doubt it will be much of a problem for Nick and Adalind."

"What does the spell require?" Rosalee asked.

"The hexenbiest must bathe in hot water, opening up her pores. She must be completely relaxed. No fear. No tension. While the hexenbiest is bathing in the water, a grimm must pierce his or her own finger, then droplets of blood on the hexenbies's forehead, between her breasts, her abdomen, on the underside of each of her arms and on each of her inner thighs. The blood will be absorbed into the skin, sealing the hexenbiest inside the body and preventing it from ever being taken. Even by any grimm's blood."

"Wow! I can see why many would be reluctant to go through such a ritual."

"It also might have something to do with the side effect being that the hexenbiest will become three times as powerful. Most grimm's wouldn't want to risk a hexenbiest manipulating them into believing they were friends, only to betray them once the spell had been completed."

"Well I'm not worried about that with Adalind." Nick assured everyone. "I trust what she and I have. And I need to be sure she will always be safe, no matter what."

Even in front of the entire group, Adalind couldn't keep the tears from pooling in her eyes. And her smile was radiant as she looked at Nick adoringly.

Adalind had never had anyone love her the way Nick did. She didn't even think she had ever been loved before Nick.

Kelly was grateful her son had found someone who he loved and was loved by so strongly. It comforted her to know that no matter what life should throw at him, Nick would always receive affection and comfort.

There was also another benefit to the relationship between the grimm and the hexenbiest.

"Well, it's good that you two have found one another. Because to prevent a grimm from having his or her abilities taken away will require a powerful hexenbiest."

"It doesn't require people getting naked, does it?" Monroe asked. "Because we also want to prevent Trubel from having her powers taken."

"Luckily, no one gets naked. But I doubt anyone will much like what it does entail. It requires taking the clipping of hair or scrapings of scales from an animal based wesen in full woge, along with three drops of blood from a royal, and saliva from a powerful hexenbiest, boiled into a tea, and drank while hot."

"No one tells Trubel what's in it." The entire group said in unison.

GRIMM

Acquiring the royal blood was less of a problem than Nick feared.

He thought he would have to ask Sean Renard for a favor, but then discovered Victor was in Portland.

The cousin to Sean and Eric was seeking a cure for his impotence. He had heard that grimm's blood had helped spinnatods with their shedding problems and hoped for a similar solution for himself.

He approached Nick and offered a great amount of wealth for his assistance. And discretion.

Being a genetic dead end to the royal family line made Victor often fear his place in succession.

Because of inbreeding, most royals were sterile. In an attempt to keep the bloodline pure, the royal's may have assured it's eventual end.

Many feared that illegitimate children, bastards like Sean Renard, would end up taking over.

The Royals tried to hide their dilemma by adopting from birth any child that had royal blood. Hefty rewards were offered to those who could produce a child, as long as it was an infant. That way, the baby could be passed off as legitimate.

No one wanted a known bastard to be sitting on the throne.

So in an attempt to gain a stronger hold on power, Victor sought out the aid of a grimm.

He had paid a lot of money to find out where exactly the grimm was located and what the grimm looked like.

To discover that the grimm was a detective working under the authority of the bastard Sean Renard, and that the grimm was dating a hexenbiest that Sean had previously wooed gave Victor a great laugh.

GRIMM

"Grimm's blood works differently, depending on the type of wesen and how it is used. If you ingest it, it might make you sick. Some experts in these things should examine you first." Nick suggested. He gave the royal the address to the spice shop and a time when to be there. Nick then messaged Adalind, Rosalee, and Freddy that he and a royal would be at the spice shop in a couple of hours.

"Infertility isn't really a wesen problem." Freddy observed.

"Nick knows that. He just needed to get Victor here under the guise of an examination. So we could get royal blood for the grimm tea we need." Adalind told Freddy.

Rosalee took a small vial of Victor's blood, then handed it to Adalind, who pretended to examine it, but really slipped it into a small chest for safe keeping.

Keeping up with the charade, Adalind nodded that it was safe for Victor to consume Nick's blood but insisted it had to be drunk right away.

They told Victor the freshness would ensure potency. But in truth it was to make sure the royal didn't try to use Grimm's blood for his own devious purposes.

"Of course, there's no way to know if it is effective until you've either been examined by a doctor, or have been with a woman." Rosalee advised.

"I'm certainly not going to risk anything in Portland." Victor sneered.

He turned to Nick. "The generous amount of money I am giving you is both for the blood, and to ensure the silence between yourself and your associates."

"Your secret's safe with us." Nick assured the royal idiot.

The four had already agreed that every cent the royal had paid would be donated to the children's hospital in Portland.

With all of the ingredients obtained to create potions that would ensure the security of Nick's, Trubel's, and Adalind's powers, the group felt they could breathe a little easier.
