Adalind and Monroe, being the nerds that they were, sensing that there was a family resemblance between the two grimm, traced their ancestry.

"Looks like the two of you are third cousins, by way of an Italian ancestor." Monroe informed Nick and Trubel.

"So we are related! Not just because you adopted me!" Trubel exclaimed excitedly.

"Well, I've always believed family was more than just the people that we are related to." Nick smiled warmly at the girl. "But it is nice to know that you've always been my family."

"Oh, that is too freaking sweet. I gotta get out of here before I get a toothache." Monroe quipped.

Trubel started to feel more confident about the grimm and the wesen world. Thanks to tutoring from the wesen adults in her life, she felt ready to handle the younger versions. And while both Nick and Adalind were anxious about the problems she could face, they also knew she needed to be around people her own age and make friends.

So they all came to terms with the fact that Trubel would be enrolled in school.

Adalind had suggested using her connections to get Trubel into a private school, but the young grimm rejected that idea, quite loudly.

"I am not going to a school with a bunch of rich self centered snobs who think they're better than everybody else! And I am not going anywhere that they make you wear a skirt as a uniform!"

So public school it was.

On her first day, she was obviously nervous about what would happen the first time a young wesen woged and say she was a grimm. But she hoped that like Nick, she would be able to calm them down and maybe make friends with them.

She anticipated that there would be some who would either stay away from her or say horrible things to her, just because she was a grimm.

There were some who were mean, and some who were scared, but thankfully, there were more who were fascinated by a grimm actually going to their school. And once some found out her adoptive parents consisted of a grimm and a hexenbiest, they were asking her all sorts of questions about her life.

Trubel realized her situation was helped greatly by the fact that some of the wesen teens were eisbiber, the children of the eisbiber community that Nick helped.

Word had spread fast about her adoptive father being a kind hearted grimm, so many felt safe being around her.

By the end of the first week, Trubel was asking if she could invite a couple of friends over for a sleepover.

The parents of the teen girls were just as fascinated by the couple as their children were. And after several conversations, they felt comfortable letting their children spend the night at each other's houses.

There were still wesen who were not happy that a grimm was attending the same school as their children. A few thought it was a good idea to tell their children to attack the young grimm, believing her to be weak and vulnerable. And if she was beaten up enough times, she would be forced to leave the school. Or maybe she would be expelled for getting into so many fights.

But Trubel had been taught to defend herself. And being a grimm, her body and instincts quickly adapted in any situation.

She was also not alone.

Nick had helped a lot of wesen. He had shown a kindness that was not forgotten. So those that knew Trubel was his adopted daughter saw a way to repay that kindness by looking out for the young grimm.

The teens who attacked Trubel were the ones expelled. The principal, a human who knew nothing about the wesen world, had no interest in going light on anyone who would attack the child of a police officer for no apparent reason.

The parents of the expelled teens were angry and insisted that Trubel was the problem and should be the one kicked out of school. The principal could see that they held some sort of prejudice against the girl, but assumed it was because she was adopted or because she preferred to wear more masculine clothes.

Refusing to tolerate bigotry of any kind in his school, the principal stood his ground and refused to allow the expelled teens to return.

When they tried to go to the school board, the bigoted parents found out that most of the mebers of the board were either friends or family members of those helped by the grimm.

They chose to send their children to private schools.

Nick hated that Trubel had to deal with bigotry and prejudice. He wanted things to be better, but he knew the battle against hate had to be constantly fought.

Nick was just grateful that Trubel had still been able to find acceptance and make friends.

The world was a dark and scary place at times, but finding a place of love and comfort could help a person deal with whatever came their way.

Nick had his safe haven with Adalind. He knew he could always find peace in her loving arms.

The wesen constantly calling both Nick and Adalind Trubel's adoptive parents made Nick realize that there were not any legal forms ensuring that if anything happened to him, Adalind would still retain custody of Trubel.

Nick didn't just want to ensure Trubel's safety. He wanted a legal contract for all to see that he and Adalind belonged to one another.

He remembered all too well how his entire world had been ripped from him because there wasn't enough proof to show Adalind and Kelly belonged with him. It had been too easy for Black Claw to manipulate things and claim his family was Sean Renard's.

Nick vowed that would never happen again.

He had already figured out one way to prevent that from happening was by searching for Bonaparte. And when he found him, the zauberbiest would get a very large dose of Grimm's blood.

But while he was working on a way to prevent Black Claw from becoming a stronghold, Nick wanted to make the bond between himself and Adalind as strong and as public as possible, so there were no questions about who her husband was.

Using every bit of cunning he possessed, Nick began to search for a ring and plan the perfect proposal.
