With the baby, Adalind only helped Nick with wesen cases by informing him of things. Both she and Nick agreed it was best for her to stay behind, since she was the mother and Diana was completely dependent on her.

Nick didn't like the idea of her being in any danger, and Adalind agreed that it was best for their family that she stay safe.

Still, she always made sure to research and have all of the information Nick might need in any situation.

Along with helping with Grimm cases, Adalind researched stronger spells of protection. She had a growing fear that her mother would try to do something to her family.

"I was thinking that maybe we should place some spells around our places of work. I'm worried about what my mother might try to do." Adalind confessed to Nick one evening while they were cleaning up after dinner.

Nick readily agreed with his wife. He had also felt a growing concern about the dangers to his family.

Adalind sensed her mother would try to hurt Diana as revenge for Adalind choosing to be with Nick.

Nick was just as concerned as Adalind. He was certain that his family was in danger. Not just from Catherine or the royals; but also from those that would want to use his family to further their own power.

Sean Renard was at the top of Nick's forever a suspect list. There was no question that the man craved power, and would do anything, as well as betray anyone, in order to obtain it. He may have been acting as if he were on the grimm's side at the moment, but Nick fully believed loyalties would change at the drop of a hat.

All the while, Nick searched out those he knew from the previous timeline would cause harm to his family. Bonapart being at the top of that list.

The last thing Nick wanted was for Black Claw to rise.

The opportunity and resources came into Nick's grasp when Special Agent Chavez approached him and invited him to join Hadrian's Wall.

Nick was adamant that he didn't want to be away from his family for too long, nor did he want to give up his job as a Portland detective.

They came to an agreement that he would be a freelancer. They also agreed that his close friends, and of course his wife, would be fully informed about everything.

Nick knew that if it weren't for his friends having his back, he would not be alive.

The only person who wasn't going to be informed on everything, was Sean Renard.

Nick was certain that he would find out eventually, but was also certain it was a good idea to keep him in the dark as long as possible.

Being an agent for Hadrian's Wall, even a freelance one, meant that Nick and his people were under the protection of the agency. Any threat toward a member of Nick's circle was considered a threat to Hadrian's Wall. The secret government agency would investigate said threat and pass all information to Nick, to discuss how he wanted it handled.

It was while Nick was looking for wesen trying to gain support and alleys for an uprising, that he came across some news that he knew would break Adalind's heart.

Catherine Schade had been offering to pay a lot of money to anyone who would help her kidnap her grandchild.

"There's an ancient spellbook she was seen taking from a seemingly forgotten room deep within the palace of the Austrian Royals. There's a spell that would give immense power to the hexenbiest who had lost her powers to a grimm. Not only would her powers be restored, but it would allow her to take power away from other beings, including other beister and grimms. For the spell to work, she would need a beister baby of the same bloodline, and a grimm child. What she plans to do once she has them is too gruesome to say."

"Wow, just when I thought Adalind's mother couldn't be anymore of a cold hearted bitch, she somehow proves me wrong." Monroe shook his head in disbelief.

"That spellbook should have been burned centuries ago." Rosalee went to a nearby shelf and pulled down a large blue tome with a crest on it. "The wesen council outlawed books that contained any information that suggested sacrifices. There were too many desperate beings who were willing to kill others in order to get what they wanted."

"Sound's to me like a royal wanted to hang onto the book as a kind of insurance policy." Freddie commented.

"Well now it's in the hands of an evil bitch who is willing to kill her own grandchild to get her powers back."

Nick looked at Adalind, who had been hauntingly quiet since he called everyone to the spice shop and explained the new situation to them.

She was holding Diana firmly against herself, rocking her softly and pressing her lips to the baby's little head.

He walked over to her, wrapped his arms around both mother and child and softly vowed, "I will do everything in my power to protect our family. Whatever it takes, she's not getting her hands on our kids."

Her eyes met his. He was heartbroken to see the tears threatening to fall.

"I know you will, Nick. And we both know the only way to stop my mother is to kill her. She's crossed a line. She doesn't care who she hurts. I have to accept that my mother will never love me or want to be a part of my life. In order to save my children, I need to let my mother go."

It was a difficult thing to deal with, but Adalind realized she needed to allow herself to mourn the loss of the mother she would never have. Make her peace with it. So she could move forward and be the best mom she could be to her children.
