Nick could not get enough of holding Adalind. He loved making love to her.
The softness of her skin. The sweetness of her scent. Especially when she was in the throws of ecstasy. There was nothing else in existence better than sex with Adalind.
There were things Nick longed to tell her, like how they were in the past. But Nick was never sure if Adalind would believe him, so he kept the secret to himself.
But the need to destroy Bonaparte and Black Claw meant that he would have to go where the leaders were. And Nick knew that it would be difficult to explain why he was going anywhere without first explaining everything else.
He chose to finally confess everything to her once he had put the kids to bed.
She was in the kitchen, finishing up the cupcakes she and Trubel had made for her class.
Nick wrapped his arms around Adalind. "Have I told you how beautiful you look today."
She laughed. "Nick, I've been baking all day, how can I possibly look beautiful with cake batter everywhere?"
"You always look beautiful. I don't think it's possible for you to not look beautiful."
"If you're trying to put me in a good mood in order to get something, you should know better than to try to manipulate a hexenbiest."
"Can't a man just cuddle with his wife?"
"Not if that man has a habit of getting himself into trouble. So what is it that you need my help with?"
"It's not that I need help with anything; it's that there's something I want to tell you, something I probably should have told you a long time ago."
Nick decided to come clean about the staff and its unique properties.
He told her everything. Everything he knew and everything he had been thinking and feeling since arriving through that portal.
She listened to it all. Not saying a word the entire time he was speaking. Her eyes widening and her mouth dropping several times throughout his story.
When he was finished, the first words she uttered were, "Why didn't you tell me about all of this before?"
"Adalind, we lived in a different timeline where you seduced my partner Hank, almost getting him killed. Then when I took your powers to save him, you got them back by getting pregnant by Sean Renard with the intent of selling the part royal baby. That baby was Diana. When the royals tried to kill you to take the special baby, who was powerful from birth, since you were getting your powers back through some odd paste, you had to be rescued by my mother. Then Sean Renard agreed that my mother should steal away with Diana so the royals couldn't take her, but insisted that you were to believe the royals had her. In order to get her back, you turned into my girlfriend and had sex with me, stealing my powers as a grimm. Another baby resulted. My girlfriend, who had turned into you by way of a potion to sleep with me and give me my powers back, turned into a powerful hexenbiest. She tried to kill you when she found out you were carrying my child. Joined with the royals to get my mother killed and steal Diana again. By the time you got to actually be a mother to Diana, her powers had aged her to about eight years old. And Sean Renard joined an evil wesen organization that was trying to take over the world. They threatened to harm your children if you didn't pretend to be Sean's wife, even though by that point you hated him. Is that really something you would have wanted to know? Or how I'm pretty sure I went a little crazy without you. Sean was never going to do the right thing, willingly. He would stand by and watch the whole world burn, all for the sake of power. But maybe I'm no better, since I would have let the world burn in order to have you and the kids back in my arms."
"You just said Diana wasn't yours, before? But you wanted her." The rest was too much to process. Though there was no doubt that Nick was telling the truth. Too many strange things had happened to them for Adalind not to believe what he was telling her. So picked the one element that she thought might affect this timeline.
"I'm sure you've noticed that I love kids. And since Diana was yours and I was in love with you, I felt like she was mine too." Nick smiled tenderly.
"You still chose me? You could have had anyone you wanted. You could have done anything you wanted. And you still chose to have this life? With me?"
"I wanted that life we had together. I wanted the love that I had only ever experienced with you. No one has ever made me feel the way that you do. I can't give that up. Not for anything."
With tears in her eyes, Adalind threw herself into Nick's arms.
It may have been impossible to believe, but she knew Nick wasn't lying to her. She knew him better than to believe he would ever make up such an outrageous story.
And the fact that he was telling her this story made her realize there had to be a purpose.
"Nick, there's a reason you're telling me this story now? What's going on?"
"I have a chance to stop a great evil before it has a chance to take over. I have the ability to literally take power away from wesen who would try to destroy the more peaceful law abiding wesen community. But in order to do that I have to go to where they are."
"And your family can't come with you?"
"I don't want to put you in danger. I need to know my family, and my friends, are safe."
Adalind pulled Nick into the bedroom.
"I don't care how or why we have the amazing life that we have. I care about you, our kids, and our friends. I don't want to lose any of it."
She began to undress him and he helped remove her clothes. "So you better make sure you come back home to me."
It all reminded Nick of the night he and Adalind spent together right before he left for Germany to get the secret treasure.
The first time he heard "I love you" from Adalind's lips.
Her passion this time around was equal to that time. She held him just as tight. Kissed him just as intensely.
They made love, worshiping one another, giving one another an assurance of what they were.
And when Adalind fell asleep with her head on Nick's chest, he stayed awake to hold her. Only this time, he wasn't thinking of their strange past, but of the unknown future he desperately wanted with her.
The next day, Nick got the staff and the coins from their hiding spot and traveled to where his instincts were telling him to go.
