Chapter 12
The clearing was so quiet that you could have heard a pin drop as Quill stiffened in disbelief and started wide eyed at Deanna who was sobbing into her hands. He wasn't sure he had heard her right. Her family was a bunch of hunters? Hunters? How could this be? But it did explain some things for him now. He had sensed something when he was at her house, something he couldn't explain.
But that didn't change the fact that he loved her; he was certain of that. Quill felt this love deep down in his very soul, there was no denying it. What would his family think? They knew he liked a human, but what would they do when he told them the rest, about her family…And her? Were they going to have to move again? Disappear before hunters came after them once again.
"Deanna, are you okay?" Castiel asked placing a hand on her shoulder as she sobbed hopelessly.
"No…" she gasped out as she wrapped her arms around her body and tried to hold all her raging emotions inside. She chanced a glance at Quill, but quickly looked away. She knew in her heart that she loved him, no matter what he was. This wasn't just a crush or puppy love, no, this was real, she was certain of it.
"Annie," Quill spoke in a whisper as he stepped toward her. He faltered when Castiel moved to stop him, but when he looked at him with pain filled eyes, Castiel let him pass. "Annie…" he mumbled as he reached for her.
Deanna could feel Quill moving closer and when he touched her, it was like a dam broke inside of her and she threw herself into his arms allowing him to hold her tightly as she continued to cry. He tried to comfort her as best he could while she sobbed uncontrollably. He couldn't keep the tears from his own eyes because he felt her heart ache too.
"We should head back," Castiel finally said thinking he needed help. He wasn't equipped to handle these raw emotions in the teenagers. "Your family needs to be told about this, both your families," he added looking intensely at Quill to be sure he understood. He was an angel of the Lord, but he could do nothing to protect Deanna from what she was going through.
"I can't," Deanna cried out in fright looking helplessly at Castiel and then to Quill, her eyes begging them to say that wasn't true.
"You have to child. There's no other way and I think you know it." Castiel was being as gentle as he could but saw it didn't help.
"I'll help you," Quill offered not wanting her to do it alone.
"No! You can't be there, not until I break the news and see their reactions," Deanna insisted clinging to his jacket. "I think Dad and Grandpa Bobby might be more openminded than Uncle Dee or Grandpa John." Deanna wiped her face and leaned into Quill's warm embrace, shivering suddenly when she felt chills running through her body.
"Here, put this on," Quill told her taking off his jacket and holding it so she could slip her arms into it and hug it to her body. It was too big, and Deanna looked lost in it.
Deanna drew in a slow breath and took in Quill's scent. She closed her eyes for a moment and snuggled into the warm folds of the coat not wanting the moment to end. She had a hard road ahead of her with telling her family about Quill, but knew it had to be done.
"I guess we're star-crossed lovers," she whispered to him taking his hand in hers.
"Like Romeo and Juliet, or some other couple who doesn't kill themselves might be more appropriate," Quill replied kissing her cheek and checking to see if he had been able to lighten the mood even a little bit.
Castiel cleared his throat when it looked like neither were going to leave the clearing.
"We should go, there's a storm brewing that will be here soon."
Quill looked up through the tree limbs at the blue sky and frown slightly, wondering how he knew that and if it was true.
"Okay Cas, let me tell Mom goodbye," Deanna agreed with a heavy sigh. She went back to the grave, dropped to her knees and placed a hand on the rocks. "Sorry I'm not staying any longer Mom, but I will next time, I promise. I love you so much." She bowed her head for a moment saying a silent prayer before getting up and letting Quill put his arm back around her and hug her to his side. They walked back through the woods with Castiel trailing along behind them. Both felt heavy hearted since neither knew what was going to happen when they told their parents.
"Why don't you let me drive?" Castiel offered when they got back to Deanna's car.
"I guess," Deanna mumbled rummaging around in her pockets for the keys. She handed them to Castiel and waited as Quill opened the door so they could sit in the back. She got in and slid over so Quill could sit beside her.
Castiel opened the driver's door and adjusted the seat back so he would fit better. He cranked the car and glanced in back at the two kids cuddled together trying to comfort each other. He turned the car around and slowly made his way back to the paved road and headed for the salvage yard. Music was playing on the radio and the song caught Deanna's attention.
"Cas, can you turn the radio up please," she requested as she clutched Quills hands tightly.
"…For one so small
You seem so strong
My arms will hold you
Keep you safe and warm
This bond between us
Can't be broken
I will be here, don't you cry
'Cause you'll be in my heart
Yes, you'll be in my heart
From this day on
Now and forever more
You'll be in my heart
No matter what they say
You'll be here in my heart
Always
Why can't they understand
The way we feel
They just don't trust
What they can't explain
I know we're different
But deep inside us
We're not that different at all
And you'll be in my heart
Yes, you'll be in my heart
From this day on
Now and forever more
Don't listen to them
'Cause what do they know?
We need each other
To have, to hold
They'll see in time
I know
When destiny calls you
You must be strong
I may not be with you
But you've got to hold on
They'll see in time
I know
We'll show them together
'Cause you'll be in my heart
Believe me, you'll be in my heart
I'll be there from this day on
Now and forever more…"
Cas looked at the two sitting in the back as he mulled over the words of the song thinking it seemed appropriate in this situation. They were two different species who fell in love with one another. He was sure their parents were not going to understand their relationship or approve of it. He knew this was going to be hard on them and wondered if they would see each other after this. It didn't take him long to get there and turned onto the driveway to follow it around to the front of the house.
"You should go," Deanna told Quill once they got out of the back. She took off his jacket and handed it back to him. She clutched his hands tightly and kissed him hard before running toward the front door with tears still streaming down her cheeks.
"Tell her…" Quill started as he watched Deanna disappear inside. He wanted to be with her when she told her family about him to offer his support but deemed it wouldn't be a good idea. "Crap, my helmet's inside."
"I'll get it for you," Castiel offered walking up the steps and through the open front door. He looked around until he spotted the helmet and took it outside to Quill. "You probably shouldn't come around again for your own safety. I don't know what her family is going to do or say."
"Will you tell Annie that I will always…Just forget it…" he scoffed jamming the helmet on and straddling his Harley, starting it, and driving down the driveway.
Castiel watched him go and felt sorry for him. He could sense how much he loved Deanna and her him. After a moment, he headed inside to give his support to Deanna. He headed for the kitchen since that was where everyone was.
"Deanna, will you tell me what's wrong?" Sam was asking her as she paced the kitchen and then leaned against the counter fidgeting with a worried, anguished look on her tear streaked face.
"Did that guy do something to you?" Dean growled in anger stepping in front of her and grabbing her shoulders. "If he did, I'll beat him senseless and then I'll kill him."
"Will you two let her talk," Bobby told them in a gruff, stern voice.
"Bobby's right, can't you see she's upset," John added looking at his granddaughter with concern.
"Do you know what's going on Skippy?" Dean asked the angel as he stepped into the room.
"It's not my place to say," Castiel replied looking at a distraught Deanna.
"Honey, you know you can tell us anything," Sam urged, taking her hands and holding them. "What happened? Did he break up with you?" he asked since he could tell she had been crying for a while by the redness of her eyes and her distraught appearance. Sam had heard Quill's motorcycle ran off just before Deanna came inside.
"It's not that," she finally admitted. "I do have to tell you something, but please, please don't go crazy. Oh god, how do I tell you…" she whined throwing her arms out and turning away from Dean as the tears started again.
"Just spit it out," Dean complained, getting impatient and wondering what could be so bad. "We're not getting any younger, you know."
"Dean," John cautioned him in a stern voice. He knew how hot headed his son could be if a loved one was hurting.
"Sorry," Dean mumbled looking ashamed.
"Honey, tell us. It can't be that bad."
"Yes it can, Dad," Deanna cried out as tears tracked down her cheeks. "It can."
"Don't cry Baby Girl, it'll be okay," Sam tried to assure her putting his hands on her shoulders to look into her eyes before giving her a hug and releasing her.
"You need to tell them," Castiel told Deanna once he stepped to her side. He laid a hand on her arm and tried to give her support.
"I found something out about Quill," Deanna's hoarse voice said softly. "He's not who you thought he was…Man, I didn't think it would be this hard," she sniffed wiping her nose on her shirt sleeve.
"Has he hurt you?" Dean asked again.
"Not in the way you think. Cas saw it when he saw him and made him tell me…" she said looking up at Castiel for a moment. "Quill is a…He's not human…He's a werewolf…" she rushed wanting to get it out. Deanna looked to each of her family as they froze with the news, waiting for a reaction.
"Are you sure?" Sam asked.
"Yes, I could see it," Castiel told him.
"Sonovabitch!" Dean growled out in anger. "I'm going to kill him…"
"You can't Uncle Dee, you can't!" Deanna begged going to him and grabbing his arm to stop him from leaving. "I…I love him…Please listen to me…"
"Ladybug, you're too young to even know what love is," Dean interrupted her before she could finish. "This is just a crush on the first guy who took a real interest in you. Did he take advantage of you? Making you fall for him?"
"No, nothing like that. He loves me too. Dad, do you remember when you first met Mom? How you felt about her? When did you know you loved her?"
"Where does he live?" John asked in a strong voice before Sam could answer.
"You can't kill them. They've done nothing wrong. They don't kill humans," she informed them.
"I've never heard of that. What do they eat? How do they live?"
"Quill said they are purebloods. He was born a werewolf and so was his family. They are taught at an early age on how to control their wolf side and they limit their contact with humans. They eat animal hearts and meat and don't harm humans. They're not the monsters you think they are."
"I think I've read about purebloods," Bobby offered. "They are different than a human that has been bitten and changes into a werewolf."
"I don't care, he's never to see you again!" Dean yelled in a demanding strong voice. "You're not to have any contact with him or his kind ever again. No calls, text, nothing, period!"
"How could you say that when you know how I feel?" Deanna asked as her anger began to build. "You know nothing about Quill or his family. All you see is a monster that needs to be put down. I never knew you were so blinded by the need to kill…So…So blood thirsty. Are you that heartless? Why won't you listen to me?"
"Deanna," Sam cautioned her trying to calm her down.
"I'm trying to protect you…" Dean started not believing what his niece was saying about him.
"I hate you! I hate all of you!" she screamed hysterically before running from the room and out the door. It was a good thing Castiel had left the keys in her car. She threw herself into the driver's seat and threw gravel as she gunned the engine and sped down the driveway.
"Nice going Dean," Sam spat at him as he gave him a double bitch face and started after his daughter. He looked out the window to see her car drive away and went back to the kitchen. "Great, you drove her away."
"Should I find her?" Castiel asked wanting to help.
"No, I think she needs some time to calm down," Sam sighed. "But could you just check to be sure she doesn't wreck or anything. That she's safe."
"I can do that," Castiel replied wandering away from the others as he tracked Deanna. He had an idea where she was going but would not betray her trust.
"I'm going to go see what I can find out about purebloods," Bobby told them pushing his chair back and getting up heading for his office.
"I'm going to go help him," John decided. He paused before following and looked at his sons. "Years ago, when I first started hunting, I had a run in with a werewolf. The strange thing was, I wasn't the one who killed him. There were two others that were werewolves that did. They saved my life; the strange thing was they never said a word to me before they disappeared back into the forest. I have to say that was weird and I never understood why they would do that. Kill one of their own like that." He shrugged and left the brothers alone in the kitchen to mull over what he said.
"So, what are we going to do about this mess?" Dean asked Sam.
"We don't go flying off the handle for one thing," Sam told him in an irritated voice. "You met Quill, he seemed like a nice guy, respectful, a gentleman, and he seems to care deeply about Deanna. I've seen the way he looks at her, his eyes were full of love."
"What if he was just fooling all of us? What if he was waiting until Ladybug was vulnerable so he could turn her? You know it only takes one bite and she's infected."
"I hear what you're saying, but I want to keep an open mind about this. I saw how devastated she was when she thought we were going to hurt or kill him and his family."
"I'm not a cold-blooded killer," Dean scoffed angrily.
"Aren't we? How many monsters have we killed without thinking about it whether they are a threat or not? I believe most of the kills we did were justified, but what if some weren't? What if some monsters are not killers and aren't really monsters after all?"
"I'm going to call Ladybug," Dean stated not wanting to think about what Sam was saying. Could he be right? He listened to the cell ring and then go to voicemail. "She's not answering her cell."
"Did you expect her to? If she's not back by dinnertime, I'll go looking for her. Cas will let us know if she's in trouble and where she is. He can get to her instantly if she needs help."
"I'm calling Jody, maybe Deanna went looking for her. And Jody can at least be on the lookout for her." Sam went into the other room to get his cell and make the call.
Dean sat at the table and stewed in his thoughts about what to do. He wanted to go looking for Deanna but wanted to give her some space too. He slammed his hand down on the table making the salt and pepper shakers jump and turn over. He tried to call Deanna again, but it went straight to voice mail. He cussed under his breath and got up to pace the kitchen trying to decide what he should do.
Castiel eased into a chair across from Dean and watched him pace, knowing there was nothing he could say to make this matter better. He knew Deanna was safe and didn't need his help at the moment, but he was keeping a link with her just in case.
A/N: Deanna has told her family about Quill, and they were not happy. She is devastated with the thoughts of not seeing him again. How will they work this out? What will happen between Deanna and Quill now? Thanks for taking this journey with me. Reviews/Comments would make my day. NC
