This story does not start out as a Caskett story. However, it has the potential to end as one.
There is no actual character death. Having said that, disappearance of a major character is possible. The Castle clan does not exist in Kate's world. There is no minor character death outside of Canon mentioned or discussed.

"Beckett, Esposito, Ryan, my office," Roy called from his door. He retreated to his desk to sit down again and wait.
"As you three have found out, it's illegal to visit North Brother Island without permission from the State due to hazardous ruins and its status as a bird sanctuary. If any of you set foot on that island and end up arrested there isn't going to be anything I can do about it. It will be a Federal matter and beyond me.
"Here is your permission to visit the island." Roy handed over the paperwork. "You will be boated out to the island and land at the dock. He will stay with the boat. You three have three hours to search the island for your suspect.
"You miss the boat at the end of three hours and you will get to stay there. Days, weeks, perhaps a month or more. You miss the boat and you won't even get your mail forwarded there. Do I make myself clear?" Roy questioned them.
"You do, sir," Kate told him and held onto her paperwork.
"Yes, sir," Kevin and Javi confirmed.
"Fall is just around the corner. No electricity, no running water, or heat of any kind. I may be rubbing it in but make no mistake, you miss the boat and you will be a permanent resident," Roy warned them again.
"We understand, sir," Kate told him since she really wanted to go there. She was positive her suspect had stolen a boat and gone there to escape going to prison for murder.
"The address for your boat and the man who will be taking you is on your paperwork. He lands and you get three hours. Good luck and be careful." Roy gave them one last warning. "It's abandoned and restricted for a reason. Most of the buildings that are still there are ready to fall down on their own."
"Yes, sir." Kate got it. Still, her guy had to be there.
"Rikers Island is right next door. I don't know of any escapes but the Warden might not be willing to admit to one or more. So be careful. Dismissed." Roy sent them on their way.
He was still worried. Those three missed the boat and his Precinct was screwed. Being down three Homicide Detectives for weeks if not months was not something he wanted to deal with. He would pull in every favor he had but it might not be enough.

The two of them parked their cruisers and headed for the dock. "Mr. Killea?" Kate reached out a hand to shake his. "I'm Detective Beckett." She pointed to her partners, "Detectives Ryan, and Esposito."
"You three have three hours after I land and yes, I do have a watch. You don't make it and you will eventually be found and arrested for criminal trespass. If it is determined that any of the protected birds or their habitat have been damaged, you can expect additional charges," he warned them.
"We've been informed. We'll meet the boat." Kate wanted her guy but she didn't want to live here.
"Then hop on and let's go." He helped each one onto a little aluminum boat and started it up and went the short distance to the island. It was amazingly close to the Bronx in the East River. Most people didn't even know anything about this island. It was abandoned in 1963, declared off limits, and it didn't even have any wildlife save for birds.
It was twenty-two acres of land, leaving Barretto Point Park in the South Bronx, they knew it was just birds. No rats, chipmunks, mice, and the like.
Pulling up to the island, he navigated around rotten dock supports. The ferry dock and its rusted derrick looked ready to collapse at any moment. So far the island was beautiful and yet eerie looking. The second Kate took a step off the boat she almost landed on her butt. "Careful, at low tide the algae is very slippery," Killea warned her.
"Thanks for the warning." As in far too late but at least her butt didn't hurt or end up wet.
"You three have three hours from…" he looked at his watch and pressed a button, "now! Stay safe and don't be late." Granted, if he saw them running right at three hours he would wait but if he didn't see them he was leaving.
"Our guy might be armed but the murder weapon was left behind. With twenty-two acres in three hours we need to split up. Check your phones for bars and stay in touch." Kate pulled out her phone and saw she had two bars. She got two bars from each of them.
"Be careful. Take the abandoned building about to collapse seriously. I'm betting our guy came here in a stolen boat and he has camping gear if he's smart. So you guys be smart." Kate looked at her watch again. "Three hours." Kate took off at a rapid walk.
"Stay safe, Bro," Espo told his partner and went straight. Kevin got left since Kate went right.

"What have we got?" Rick walked into the Command room and stepped up behind his daughter who was running the scanner. He had gone out just long enough to get something to drink and then come back. Naturally, something happened then and not before he left. No, no, they couldn't do that.
"I've got four. One's still on the boat. The other three have split up. Our only guy on the island has set up camp inside the old Transformer Vault. None of our three are headed that way yet," Alexis replied.
"Three of the four are armed. Our present guest is not armed as you know," Alexis added.
"Armed, you say? Local or what they call Federal?" Rick questioned her.
"Searching," Alexis said while her dad sipped his drink. "Nothing on their computers. Scanning." Alexis tried to get a good picture of one of them and zoomed in. "Badge says New York City Police, so local. Badge number is 41319. Searching." Now she had something to search for. "Her name is Kate Beckett. She is presently the Lead Homicide Detective for New York City, 12th Precinct." Alexis found something. "She is outside her jurisdiction."
Rick leaned down next to her head and looked at the picture. "She's pretty." She was also tall looking.
"Dad?" Alexis turned her head to look at him. What was he thinking?
Rick stood up to get away from her glare. "Background, please."
"Kate Beckett. Born Katherine Houghton Beckett on November 17, 1979. Left Stanford University when she was just nineteen years old and joined the Police Academy. Had to wait till she was twenty-one years old to be hired full time.
"Spent time in a Patrol car with a Mike Royce. Transferred to Vice by Roy Montgomery, Captain of the 12th Precinct at the time. Transferred to junior Homicide Detective by Captain Montgomery. Then promoted to Lead Homicide Detective by Captain Montgomery."
"I'm detecting a theme here." Rick would come back to that later. "Keep going."
"Mother is Johanna Beckett. Murdered on January 9, 1999. Murder was determined to be random gang violence. Nothing was stolen. Officer investigating was John Raglan. His partner was Gary McCallister. Both are presently retired.
"Father James Beckett, commonly known as Jim, is still living. He is registered as a Corporate Lawyer in New York City and New York State," Alexis told him. "I have something on him. Ascendent is a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center. He graduated just over five years ago."
"Five years." Rick needed to think about that. "Five years puts that close to the death of Johanna Beckett which I'm presuming was his wife. Took to drugs or alcohol due to her death, perhaps. What was Kate doing at Stanford University?"
"Give me a moment." Alexis looked up at him. "…She was studying Pre-Law. Both parents were lawyers at the time of her mother's death."
"Interesting. He becomes addicted and she leaves college. And now she's a homicide detective. Why do I think those things are all interconnected?" Rick was trying to figure it out.
"Scan the other two and tell me what you find. I'm going to do my own search." Rick kissed her head, went to his desk, and sat down. He wasn't willing to admit that he was interested because she was pretty. He wasn't technically the only person at this station that wasn't mated to anyone not including his own daughter. He could be mated to one of those. It was just he wasn't that interested in her. Granted, he did get his Cum from her but he wasn't the only one she got Cum from, so they weren't an item.
Given that this Kate was a human wasn't stopping him just yet.

Rick was still searching when he felt his daughter next to him. "The other two are Kevin Ryan and Javier Esposito," Alexis reported. "Both are Junior Homicide Detectives at the 12th Precinct."
"Interesting!" Rick thought about that. "Three homicide detectives on our Island."
"I'm reasonably certain these three want our other guest," Alexis observed. "Homicide detectives suggests our other guest is a suspect in a murder."
"Makes sense, I can see that. I haven't gotten too far on her yet. Detectives Raglan and McCallister had a rookie partner during the year Johanna Beckett was murdered. I'll give you one guess what his name was?" Rick smiled at his daughter knowing that she was exceptionally smart.
"Montgomery." Alexis saw that a mile away. "So Montgomery and the Becketts are connected. She's dead, he's either on drugs or alcohol, and she left Law School. Now she's a Homicide Detective." Rick wasn't ready to say just why all that was but it was connected.
Alexis placed a hand on his shoulder. "She's human, Dad. You know what this planet thinks of Succubi and Incubi. We are all Evil Demons. We want to drain their life so we can live. Demons, Vampires, Ghosts, Aliens. This planet loves the idea of them but fears all of them. So long as they stay fictional they don't have a problem." Alexis knew her dad. He didn't like anyone attached to this station and was likely lonely.
"I know. Plus, we're out of Phase. No one on this planet has any idea we're even here. Can't see us, can't detect us, can't hear us. It's a perfectly safe deployment." Rick knew all that.
"Good thing too. This race is very dangerous," Alexis pointed out.
"Only to each other," Rick insisted and raised his hand to stop her. "Because they don't know different."
"I can see the wheels turning, Dad." Alexis knew her dad really well. He was thinking about something.
"I'm thinking of taking a Phase Belt and a scanner. Even if I do get too close she can't shoot me. Their weapons are far too primitive for that. And we both know your scanner has limitations," Rick told her.
"It does." Alexis granted him that. She knew like he did that the Base scanners could give them an overall view but not tell them something like, "Does this person have a genetic defect or a virus that might wipe them out?" A hand scanner could do that but only if they got close enough to their phase.
"You get yourself killed and I'll never forgive you." Alexis reached out and took hold of his left ear and got ready to twist really hard. "Promise me."
"OW, ow, ow! I promise not to get shot." She wasn't even twisting hard yet and maybe he was overreacting to what she was doing, but it was like her to do something like this.
"Better not." Alexis let go of his ear. "Just be careful, Dad, she's human. Take a communicator with you or I'll send someone to come get you."
"Who's in charge here?" Rick questioned her since he was the Commander.
"I am and don't you forget it." Alexis smiled wide since she of course knew he was. Then she leaned down and kissed his cheek. "Maybe get a scan of the guy these three are after if you get close enough." Alexis left him to go back to her space. Her time on the Command Deck wasn't over yet.

Rick had checked out a suit, matching Phase belt, a hand scanner, and a communication headset. "Testing, Pumpkin," Rick called out to her.
"Loud and clear, Dad. She is presently headed south. One is east and one north. Our other guest is far east," Alexis advised him.
"Copy that." Rick headed out the door and onto the Base.
The entire Base was out of Phase with the physics of this place. No one in the other phase saw, heard, or could even detect a thing. Even if their reactor had a meltdown and blew them all to this planet's moon, they would never know a thing.
The Base itself was a three pointed star with three pods between the gaps with long access corridors to each of them. One pod held the power core. The theory was that if the power core had a meltdown the pod would contain it. Though it was all theory since no power core had had a meltdown yet.
Another pod held the Base's two Fighters and two long range Shuttles. The final pod held the Medical Bay. It was out here in case a contagion was released. It could be contained in the Medical Pod.
Everything else was located in the three pointed start. Housing, Entertainment, and the Command Deck that Rick had just left after leaving Alexis in charge. There were only twenty-two people in the entire Base. Two Fighter pilots that mostly just sat in their simulators and did simulator training. Those two were rookies. This was their very first deployment. People on the Command Deck, Engineering, and Medical Bay.
They were just here to monitor this planet. The planet and its inhabitants presented no threat to them. It was a five year term and they were just two years into their deployment.

"Keep going south, Dad. She seems to be wandering around looking everywhere. One of her friends is going to run across our other guest soon if he keeps this up," Alexis told him.
"Copy that." He knew most of the old existing buildings were on the east side. There wasn't that much down here.
Alexis kept watching and observed her dad getting closer and closer given that he was walking in mostly a straight line. He was looking for her, not someone he didn't know where they were.
"You're almost on top of her," Alexis informed him.
"Copy that. …I have her in sight. Activating camera." Rick reached up to his headset so he could turn it on. Alexis instantly spotted her, though thanks to the Phase difference she wasn't really all there. Her dad needed to activate his belt and get closer to her phase to clear up the picture.
Alexis watched him getting closer till finally he activated his belt and little by little got closer to her phase. She saw her from behind since her dad was trailing her. Pants, top, boots, and she clearly had a weapon on her hip. Long brown hair that was mostly straight.
Rick had to keep stopping since she was stopping and looking constantly. She was also looking at her watch. Finally he raised his scanner and ran a scan of her from head to toe.
Rick read his scanner. "No Fucking Way!"
"DAD!? …Talk to me, Dad." Alexis was ready to raise the alarm and give their Fighter pilots something to do finally.
"She's a Succubus!" Rick exclaimed. "She reads as human but still a Succubus."
"That's not possible. Only The Race is Succubi or Incubi. You're reading it wrong," Alexis argued.
That had Rick doing it again. He brought the scanner up to the camera so Alexis could see for herself.
"This is still not possible. We're the first of The Race to have ever been here. We have no knowledge of anyone else ever having been here before. Is she a hybrid? Run it again," Alexis told him.
This time Alexis watched him scan her again just before she stepped too far away to be scanned. What she saw left Alexis sitting there with her mouth hanging open. It wasn't possible. A human based Succubus that wasn't a hybrid.
Kate was getting farther and farther away. "Now what, Pumpkin? Moving her to our Phase isn't as simple as getting her to drink something. We're not out of phase with this place because of some virus. I'm not even sure it can be done. At least not permanently." Rick needed advice. He might be in Command and would make the final decision, but how did he reach that decision?
"Follow her at least for now," Alexis decided. "Let me get the Doc in Command so we can talk and show her your scans." She cut him off to talk to Medical.

"Commander?" Jackie was in Command and had watched what Alexis had shown her.
"Hey, Doc, what have you got?" Rick could still see Kate but he wasn't all that close.
"A human Succubus is unprecedented. However, your scans don't lie. Without getting her into my Lab so I can study her and run some tests, I can only guess that her biology is similar enough to ours. Meaning she needs to feed just as often as we do. That her abilities are similar. Change Self, Charm, Domination, Kisses, the need for Life Force.
"Having said that the only way we'll know is to get her into my Lab. To do that means you need to shoot her and knock her out. Put a belt on her, get her into our Phase, and bring her back to the Base.
"Though that still leaves us with a few issues. Since I'm working with the unknown here, what if her strength exceeds ours? What if her immune system rejects the drug you give her? What if she is capable of overruling the belt while in the Lab?
"What if she is a true Succubus? Then what, Commander? Is she the only one of her kind on this planet? How long has she been a Succubus? Even if we offer to let her stay with us, what if she refuses? Can we release her when she knows enough to ruin this entire deployment?
"Can you imagine the United States surrounding us and trying to defeat our Phase so they can attack us? You know our defenses and offensive capabilities better than I do. Can you say they wouldn't try?
"Do we contain her as a prisoner for the next three years? Release her just before we leave?" Jackie questioned him.
They could all hear Rick groaning since Alexis and Jackie weren't the only ones on the Command Deck. It was now that Rick almost wished he wasn't in Command. He hated making decisions like this.
"How long can you keep her safely under, Doc? How long can we hold her in our Phase before we run into risks of it being permanent?" Rick knew even what he was doing currently could only last just so long before he started taking risks to his own health.
"Depending on what I know about their typical human physiology? Forever basically. With her being a Succubus, I don't know. In our Phase? Twelve hours tops. One minute longer and we risk doing physical damage if we send her back and leave her there.
"So ten hours plus an hour to move her and get her back into her phase with time to spare for unforeseen events." Jackie waited for him to make a decision. She knew what she wanted. This local was a Succubus and not part of The Race. She wanted her in her Lab.
"All I have is a scanner, my suit, and my belt. Get a dart gun ready and an Anti-Grav sled so I can transport her. Get your Lab ready, Doc," Rick said. "I'll give you nine hours with her. Then we put her still in our Phase using a belt into the Shuttle and release her on the mainland."
"Yes, Commander!" Jackie was thrilled to just get her. One hour or nine hours she was happy. "I'll get the dart and gun ready. You can worry about his sled," Jackie told Alexis. She left the Command Deck and hurried to her Lab to get her dart and gun ready for him, including all of her team. There would be no sleeping for anyone for the next nine hours.

Jackie and her entire medical team were ready and waiting as the Commander guided in the Anti-Grav sled with an unconscious Succubus on it in human form.
"We got her, Commander." Jackie and her team took over.
"It took me twenty minutes to dart her, get the belt on her and onto the sled, and back here. So you have roughly eight and a half hours with her, no longer," Rick advised her.
"Let's go. Go, go, go." She had spent all this time thinking up what each and every test she wanted to give her to find out all she could before she lost her.

Rick found his daughter on the Command Deck right where she was supposed to be with him being gone. However, one of them was going to need sleep soon.
"Eight hours, Pumpkin, start the clock. We have thirty minutes to get her out of Medical and into a Shuttle for a flight to the mainland." Rick watched her initiate the countdown.
"A human Succubus. This alone might be worth coming here. As far as we know it's just us." Rick was still a bit taken aback.
"I did some more looking. We're it, Dad. As far as I know and can confirm without sending a communication to Fleet Command for verification, we're the first ones here.
"If she is a Succubus, a true Succubus, that makes this planet very important. Can you imagine? What if she isn't alone? Our scanning ability worldwide is limited. Just scanning I can't tell you what their skin color is let alone if that person is a Succubus.
"Command Fleet would need to send something if they even wanted to do that. I know the risks but it might be worth it to awaken her and talk to her. Presently, it's the only way to know." Alexis waited to see what he thought.
That had Rick groaning. This trip had sounded like a cakewalk. Nice, easy, five years living on a Base on an Alien planet to help the future of The Race. Now thanks to her, this mission was a lot more complicated.
"If you haven't already, do a search of her work, car, home, phone, friends, co-workers," Rick ordered. "We need to follow her once she leaves us."
"I'll try not to take that as an insult." Alexis sat there and crossed her arms across her chest to show that she didn't need to do anything twice and glowered at him.

Rick lasted all of four hours before he showed up in Medical to find out if the Doc had learned anything yet. Rick saw her sitting up on the edge of the examination bed. "SHE'S UP!?"
"She's been fighting our sedative," Jackie explained.
"And you didn't think to call me? So I could have her transported to the mainland?" Rick was getting angry. If she woke up things got a lot more complicated.
"Who are you?" Kate saw a woman with wings like hers, a tail like hers, and horns like hers right next to her.
"DOCTOR! I'll have your wings for this," Rick informed her coldly.
"SHIT!" Jackie finally figured out she had screwed up. She had been so excited about having access to her that she had screwed up big time.
"Who are you?" Kate saw a handsome man with large black wings, black tail, and horns just inside a doorway. "What are you?" Kate was just coming to grips that there was a Succubus next to her. But what was he?
Rick raised his wrist to his mouth. "Security to Medical. NOW!" Rick groaned as he walked into Medical and headed for the Doctor and her.
"Get out, Doctor, and take your team with you. Before I throw you in the Brig and forget that you and your team are in there for the next three years," Rick growled at Jackie.
"Yes, Commander." She knew he was going to be forced to create a report about it. This assignment had sounded like a pretty good deal. She might end up reduced to a simple nurse for this. Jackie waved for her team to follow her. She needed to start work on her own report to try and save her ass.
"Where am I? …Commander?" How did the military get involved in this? It was a simple murder, not a Federal matter let alone military. And why did he have wings, tail, and horns? He was wearing a uniform but she didn't recognize it.
Rick tried to calm her down by using her name. "Relax, Kate, you're in no danger here."
"So you know who I am. Who and what are you?" Kate tried a threat. "Holding a homicide detective is a Federal offense."
"Your Federal whatever is no concern of mine. My name is Richard Castle and I'm an Incubus. You're on my Base."
"A what?" She would get to the name later.
"Incubus. I'm referred to as a Demon. Just like you since you're a Succubus."
Kate chose to lie through her teeth since she had to stay hidden. "I'm no Succubus."
"Succubus. Wings, tail, horns." Rick pointed at all three, then pointed at her chest as well. "And your enlarged chest size."
That had Kate looking down and discovering that her breasts were larger which explained why her bra was so damn uncomfortable. It also had her turning her head to see one of her wings. "SHIT!" Her Change Self which wasn't really just an illusion.
Change Self: You acquire the physical qualities of the new form while retaining your own mind.
"The doctor is a Succubus just like you and I'm an Incubus since I'm male. All we wanted to do was learn about you and then release you none the wiser. But you're awake. Do you want your weapon and other items back? Would that make you feel better? I'm not armed." Rick spread his arms wide to prove it.
Kate snapped her head to look past him since she spotted movement. That had Rick looking behind him. "Well, he is since he's security. But he's an Incubus too, as you can plainly see."
Kate was trying to wrap her mind around all of this. No one knew she was a Succubus. No one, not even her dad. At least so far as she was aware. He never said anything about it. Her mother was but as far as she knew, not her dad. Her dad hadn't said anything and neither had her mother.
If this person sold her out she was in big trouble. She didn't really have a plan for being found out. That was partly why she had been so careful about it. None of the men she had sex with ever remembered her. She had made sure of that.
"Castle is a writer." Granted, he did sort of look like him. She had studied his face on the back of her books closely. She was just now starting to notice subtle differences.
"Human Richard Castle, yes. I'm a different Richard Castle. How do you feel?" Rick knew drugs had been used and since she was human and not part of The Race, he didn't know how their drugs worked on her.
"Fine, confused." Kate tried again. "Where am I?"
"Medical Bay. You are still technically on an island that you call North Brother Island." Rick wasn't sure he should have told her that. It was just telling lies was a lot harder for him than for others.
Kate tilted her head and stared at him. She had just caught him in a lie. "That's impossible. The only buildings on this island are ruins. This island is a bird sanctuary. Being here is illegal."
"Yes, that's going to be a lot harder to explain." The Doctor had given him a problem and he was still trying to figure out how to deal with it. It wasn't suppose to go like this. She was supposed to never know she was here.
Rick raised his wrist to his mouth. "Alexis to Medical, please. Our guest is awake."
"SERIOUSLY!?" Alexis exclaimed. "On my way, Dad." Alexis was up and jogging to Medical after pointing at someone on the Command Deck to take over.
"Dad?" The Castle Kate knew didn't have a daughter. Or at least she didn't know if he did or not.
"My daughter. I thought if we both explained it it might make sense to you," Rick explained.
It only took a few seconds and Kate saw a Succubus with long orange hair walking past the guard with a gun. A nice big gun even.
Kate watched her walk in with her mouth hanging open. "I was hoping you were joking, Dad." Clearly he was not.
"My daughter, Alexis. She's a Succubus as well. In fact, everyone here is either Succubi or Incubi with no exceptions." Rick watched her for some kind of reaction.
Immediately Alexis was concerned that her dad was telling her too much. When they released her she was going to remember all this. "Dad?" Alexis tried to warn him.
"She's been awake too long. She knows too much already," Rick said hoping she understood. Alexis got it but she had better be trustworthy or this mission just went to shit.
"She believes that the island is full of ruins, which it is to her, just not to us. You're better at explaining our technology than I am," Rick told his daughter.
"O-K-A-Y." Her dad was in charge but this had better be a really good idea. Alexis tried her best to explain. "We are both on the same island. We can even be in the very same space and you will never know it or feel it. We call it Phase.
"When one is at its positive peak the other is at, or near, its negative peak. This is also commonly referred to as being one hundred eighty degrees out of Phase. You're wearing a belt at your waist that allows you to exist in our realm. Turn it off or remove it and you will convert to your phase.
"Out of phase neither of us can see, speak, touch, or hear the other. Neither of us exist. Our technology in this Base counters this. We can find you but you lack the technology to see us."
"So you're trying to tell me that you're aliens which don't exist." Kate had listened but didn't really believe her. Still, she did look down and in fact she was wearing a belt of some type.
Alexis studied her. "That's subjective. You're a Succubus and I'm a Succubus. Outside of us you're the first we've ever seen. We didn't know of any Succubi on this planet. And if by Alien you mean were we born on your planet? No, in that case we are Aliens. We know of other races but you're the first Succubus on another planet."
Then Rick spoke up. "We got curious and I authorized for you to be brought to the Base so we could learn more about you. The idea was to look you over, take you out of our Phase, and take you home. Remove the belt, allow you to just wake up, and go home none the wiser. But now you know."
Kate looked at her own tail and then looked at theirs. Except for her mother she had never seen another like her. She was all alone. Her curiosity was starting to get the better of her. "So how many of you are there?"
"On this Base? Not many. Overall there are billions of us." Rick shrugged. "We get around."
Kate opened her mouth to say something but she had nothing, so she closed it and tried to think. Where she was didn't look anything like she was used to. Save for being on a bed nothing else looked familiar.

However, Kate saw a problem with her plan. "I don't have a problem telling you all I can, but if I go with you when you leave then what do I do? Be an Ambassador for my planet on yours?" Kate was past not believing in aliens.
"That's one idea," Alexis said. "If we're selected to go to another planet and do there what we're doing here, we need to find something for you to do. Though before that can happen you need to learn our language."
"I learned Russian quickly," Kate told them. "How hard can it be?"
Rick offered an example of their language. "Ieoj jyga on fyka zabfakk irx ueo ija y nobbozµ. A gaji qayokucot robbozµ." Then he translated it into English for her. "Your name is Kate Beckett and you are a Succubus. A very beautiful Succubus."
Kate knew she was starting to blush and was thankful for the darkness. "Thanks. …Still, I might be able to learn."
"Staying here means not going back. Until we can decide if you can take off the belt and put it back on again, you either stay or go back. You can't do both," Rick warned her. "It means a lot of work for our Doctor and lead Engineer."

Kate was on a mission. Being out of Phase to her home meant the Shuttle and she could go where she wanted to go and no one could stop her since they couldn't see her.
Her first stop was the 12th Precinct. Being here tugged at her to return. She had friends here and it was her job. She watched as finally Roy left his office. That opened up her chance to enter his office. The second her service weapon, badge, and note left her possession, they left her Phase and entered her old phase. From there she walked over to Kevin and Javi.
"Good luck, guys. I'm going to miss you." She was leaving friends behind but she had new friends.
Next up was the visit that was really going to hurt. She came upon Lanie busy cutting open a body and doing her job. Kate left a letter for her in her office, came back to Lanie, and just watched.
"I'll try again later if I can talk Rick into it. You wanted me to find someone. Well, I did, just not where either of us expected it. Be happy for me. I have to go. I have one more stop today." Kate left her and returned to the Shuttle.
Her dad should be here but he wasn't and she didn't have time to wait. She was learning that her belt needed constant recharging. She had to plug it in while wearing it. It was a pain but the Engineer had a theory. If she stayed in this Phase long enough her body may adjust to it and perhaps one day she wouldn't need the belt any longer. But he had a lot of work to do to verify that.
Kate sighed and put her letter down, letting it pass into her old phase for her dad to find it. She had wanted to see him but it hadn't worked out like that. Still, at least her dad would know that she wasn't missing and that she was happy.

It is one year later
Kate watched him walk into their quarters. "Du zyza, xΩ on wi rali urbozon?" (Hi Babe, how is my sexy Incubus?)
"You've caught on pretty fast." Rick was happy for her.
"I still suck at writing and reading it. It's a lot like Russian. I can translate the language just not the written language. But we're here for two more years." Kate would be ready by then.
Kate used a finger to get him closer to her till he was close enough to kiss him. "You ready to kill you again?" She meant go to the Entertainment Room and mop the floor with him.
"I'll beat you eventually." Rick wasn't willing to give up. Maybe not ever.
"Keep dreaming, babe, just keep dreaming," Kate countered.
Rick changed topics on her. "How are your notes coming?"
"This is a lot harder than I thought. Hiding being a Succubus means I hide myself. How do I tell people I called friends but am still hiding from that I'm happy but can't tell them why. That I'm in love I get, but with who and why?" Kate explained.
"One more reason to come with us when we leave. Stop hiding! Be you, the real you." Rick leaned across to kiss her. "There's one more thing. Alexis and I have been thinking about this.
"We'll be leaving in our Shuttles and Fighters and destroying this Base. We will, however, be going home in a Mother Ship. It's several times the size of this Base. When will we come back? That I can't say. That's out of my hands.
"But I can tell you that I love you and want you to go where I'm sent. Always."
Kate had never felt like this before. He had found her heart and this was causing tears. She was still getting used to what her heart was telling her. Trying to learn to override her brain.
"I love you too. I'll go where they send us." Kate didn't have to hide and she finally had a lover. She didn't have to fear that she was a slut or worse because she was a Succubus. "I just have to plug in my belt first."
