I promised I wouldn't abandon this fic and I'm sorry it takes so long. It's kind of frantic around me right now, so thanks to everyone who will keep reading and apologies to everyone who got tired of waiting for a new chapter. Hope everyone is doing okay. Enjoy:)
Reunion
"I don't like this" Hermione declared casting the most withering glare she could muster at Narcissa.
"Hermione, dear, I promise you this is nothing like the last time you were in the same room with one of my sisters." Andromeda paused, then her voice changed considerably. "Tough it seems like you have come at peace with what happened that night."
"Does it really?" Hermione pulled out her wand. "Let me go through that door, Andy. Or I'm going to let myself out."
Narcissa let out a little laugh at this. Hermione tried not to show her surprise at hearing Narcissa laugh for the first time.
"Funny how spending time with someone does change people."
"If that's supposed to be a provocation, don't bother."
The brunette remembered Bellatrix mentioning Narcissa having her way with words. Now she was a little angry at her girlfriend that it hadn't been a warning. Huh? Her what now?
"Hermione, this doesn't have to be something big. Why don't you put your wand away?" Andromeda's voice was calm as if the three of them were talking about the weather or what they had gotten for Christmas. "Everything we want you to do is roll up your sleeve and show us your arm."
"So the roles are being reversed?" Hermione snapped defensively.
"Not so easy to be understanding when you're on the other side of this, is it?" Narcissa bit back.
"Okay, enough of this." Andy turned towards her, and Hermione could swear she shivered. "Magic is an extraordinarily complex being. I don't hold your heritage against you, but you just can't feel it the way we do. But you do know it leaves traces. And you have traces of magic around you that is awfully familiar to us."
"Plus, you seemed very adamant not to let your sleeves even an inch up during dinner."
Damn their observance.
"What exactly do you expect to see on my arm?" she tried to stall.
"It's more about what we expect not to see" Andromeda smiled at her. "It's either that or simply telling us how you came in contact with Bella."
"You seem sure I met her. I could have healed myself."
"Even the Brightest Witch of her Age is not smart enough for that" Narcissa said. "Miss Granger, save us some time and tell us where to find our sister."
"I don't know."
"Hermione-"
"I really don't. But if you do find her, bear in mind that she wanted to see you. She just didn't know what to say or how to approach you two."
"Well, I wouldn't know how to approach her if I'd killed her daughter either" Andromeda growled. This was the first time she had let any emotion show in her voice.
"Just know that she is deeply sorry. And try not to hold things against her. It wasn't her fault."
"Not her fault-?!"
"You insolent little-"
"Just give her a chance to explain" Hermione cut them off. "Now excuse me. I am, in fact, in a hurry to see someone."
With that she pushed past Andy and exited the room using the two women's brief pause while they contemplated her words.
Bellatrix hissed as she flicked her wand to heal another small cut on the back of her hand. Her youngest sister could be vicious when she wanted to.
"You deserved more of those" Andromeda grumbled from across the table where she sat sporting a split lip.
"Oh, please, as if I'd come to you, you'd have welcomed me back with open arms."
"So you opened up to a complete stranger?"
Bella flinched.
"I didn't open up."
"Oh, quit it!" Andromeda snapped. "Healing Granger's wound? You might as well have proposed to her."
The older woman chose not to answer this, opting instead for looking at the blonde sitting at the far end of the table. Narcissa had been quiet ever since the duel came to an end. If Bella knew anything about her sister, it was that the quieter she was, the more dangerous she became.
"Nice dueling skills there, Cissy. You must be one of the most powerful duelists in Britain by now."
"She's been living in Lucius's shadow for quite some time" Andromeda was quick to answer when Narcissa fixed Bellatrix with a deadly glare.
"That git" Bella murmured. "Good for you for divorcing him, Cissy."
At this, Narcissa laughed which made her older sisters share a look of disbelief. It wasn't reserved or forced. This was Cissy's laugh they hadn't heard in decades.
"Oh, dear Mother and Father must be rolling in their graves" the blonde said when she regained control of her voice. "Here we are, in their home – one is a divorcee and the other two are rolling in the sheets with Muggle-borns."
"I'll drink to that!" Bella sniggered.
"That doesn't count, you drink for everything."
"It does count for something, Dro," Narcissa smirked at her sister, "dear Bella here had no objections to rolling in the sheets with a Muggle-born."
"I've done no such thing!"
"Yes, yes, spare me that. Bring us some wine while I whip up something to eat while you're telling the story" Andromeda cut her off.
Bellatrix strained her recently acquired memory to see if her sisters had always been like that. Merlin's saggy-
She made her way to the wine cellar grumbling about bossy, nosy sisters.
