"Ladies and gentlemen of Ultimatum! Welcome to the first-ever Super Smash Brothers Hunger Games!" Master Hand roared at the large crowd around a large tv screen. On the tv screen was a countdown. "We divided some of the members of Smash Mansion up into groups of four, to represent their world. And for some of them, they were able to bring in people from their world that aren't in the Mansion. Now, to show off the districts and who will be playing!" The screen's countdown disappeared to show a fun little layout of the districts. District one was Mario, Luigi, Bowser, and Rosalina. District two was Ness, Lucas, Claus, and Ninten. District three was Joker, Crow, Noir, and Mona. District four was Sonic, Tails, Shadow, and Knuckles. District five was Link, Young Link, Toon Link, and Ganondorf. District six was Fox, Falco, Wolf, and Krystal. District seven was Red, Lucario, Incineroar, and Pikachu. District eight was Shulk, Pyra, Mythra, and Rex. District nine was Pit, Dark Pit, Palutena, and Viridi. District ten was Mega Man, Dr. Willy, Roll, and Protoman. District eleven was Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, King K Rool, and Dixie Kong. District twelve was Marth, Byleth, Roy, and Chrom.
"And don't worry everyone. While these contestants will be fighting to the death, we've taken the necessary precautions so they don't actually die. Think of it being like a copy of their true selves dies but not them. Although it will still feel like they died," ROB needed to explain it, lucky for him being a robot he could easily make his voice louder.
"Yes yes. What he said. Outside of death not being permanent, everything else will be just like the movies. And also, these people chose to be here. We didn't force them. It's just a legal thing I needed to say." Master Hand goes over a few other things that he needed to go through on how this event will play out. It was simple. The fighters needed to fight to the death until there was one person standing. They would restock the cornucopia after a certain amount of time, and after a random amount of time, Crazy Hand would be brought in to unleash his attack, a big challenge for the fighters. After all of that, Master Hand looked at the crowd. "The Reaping is soon over. Let us watch."
In the main Hunger Games area, the cornucopia was filled with bags and other materials for the Fighters to use. Soon enough, the podiums rose from the ground, showing every participant getting mentally ready for this. Some of the contestants were looking at each other, alliances were already being made before they were allowed to leave their podiums. A loud countdown from 3 started. After 1 was said everyone left their podiums.
Byleth and Lucario ran off into the woods, deciding to not do anything about the cornucopia. However, Luigi was quite the opposite. He was eying down a sword that was resting against the main area of the cornucopia. He was able to get it, but then found out that Incineroar followed to try and attack him for it, but Luigi ducked under his attack and stabbed Incineroar in the back. When Incineroar fell to the ground, Luigi smirked evilly before decapitating Incineroar.
There were some other fighters that ran from the cornucopia. Those being Protoman, Red, King K Rool, Shulk, and Young Link. They were able to get away safely. Lucas ran toward the interior of the cornucopia. There was something he wanted to get that he saw, and very few people were going in. He grabbed a sword before hiding behind some crates, waiting for an opportunity. He started getting skeptical when he heard someone rummaging through the crates. He jumped out and held the sword toward the person, finding it to be Pit. They had a silent judgemental look before making a sort of agreement. Lucas lowered his sword and allowed Pit to find a backpack.
Toon Link and Claus decided to form a temporary pact as they ran from the cornucopia, defending each other from the onslaught of fighters. However, Bowser was able to jump in front of them, having grabbed a spear. "Hello there boys. Running away so soon?" Bowser said as he flaunted his spear a bit. Claus and Toon Link exchanged a quick look before jumping in opposite directions. Bowser decided on following Toon Link, but Toon Link had retreated to the trees and jumped behind Bowser and continued down the path with Claus following him soon after.
Link ran into the Cornucopia as Pikachu ran past him to leave it. Link had his eyes on a bag. He couldn't tell what was in the bag, but he wanted it nonetheless. But he wasn't the only one. He got the bag and chuckled but was almost instantly kicked away by Krystal. "Sorry blondie, this bag is mine," Krystal said. Link shot up and clenched his fists.
"I won't fall so easily," Link said with a smirk before running in to attack once more. However, once he got close enough, Krystal kicked him again and knocked Link into a rock. It didn't cause much damage, but it showed that since Link was robbed of his weapons, he was not too strong. Link decided it'd be best to give up and run to safety. Krystal chuckled.
"Weakling."
Ninten and Noir had a little pact between the two. They ran into the cornucopia. Noir entered as Ninten acted as the protector. He scared Falco and Joker off by using a sword that could've easily cut them up. However, there were two people who weren't easily swayed by the sword. Those two being Mythra and Rex. Rex ran in from the front as Mythra ran in from behind. Noir could only watch as she grabbed a backpack. Mythra kicked Ninten into Rex, causing Rex to also attack him. Ninten got launched into the main area of the cornucopia. He got back up and growled. "You bitches." Ninten quickly grabbed a hammer and ran in as he screamed loudly. The two of them tried attacking him, but he simply dodged and hit the hammer into Mythra's face. She fell to the ground and Ninten didn't hesitate to slam the hammer back into her face. This sprayed blood over him as Mythra's life left her body. Ninten glared at Rex. He gulped.
"Hehe...h-hey there. Uhm….t-truce?" Rex nervously said.
"Truce my ass," Ninten said as he ran in and hit Rex's crotch with the hammer, making him fall to the ground and allowing Ninten to straight-up snap his neck. Rex fell to the ground, dead. A large portion of the Fighters saw this. Most vowing to just run while some collected some things before running. Mario, Roll, Marth, Sonic, Chrom, and Shadow were the ones to just run away as Pyra clutched a first aid kit before running away and Dark Pit grabbed a pack of throwing knives before running away. Ninten looked back at Noir and smirked. "Ready to leave?" Noir gulped as she saw the teen with blood all over him and a smile on his face. The blood running down his face and staining his perfect white teeth.
"Y-yeah…"
Ganondorf was able to find a pack of explosives. He put some into the ground and hid around the corner. He wanted to kill the next person to enter the main cornucopia. And unfortunately, that person was Ness. He stepped in, hoping to get the stuff that Lucas had told him to get. But instead, Ganondorf activated the explosive and it exploded right around Ness. Ness got launched out, having already died from the explosion. Lucas and Pit were waiting in the forest. Lucas saw the explosion and got nervous and his nervousness was soon confirmed when Ness's body landed not too far from him. He stood up, gripping his sword. His nose was twitching as he had a small growl. He grabbed Pit's arm and stormed off.
After that, nothing major happened in the Cornucopia. Just either people running off, or collecting supplies like food or weapons. The Smash Bros Hunger Games have begun.
Day 1
Lucas fell to the ground and finally let the death drain into him. He started crying. Pit crouched down and rubbed his back. "Hey, it's ok, remember, he's not really dead," Pit said.
"Yeah, but seeing his dead body, real or not, doesn't take away from it…" Pit nodded somberly before hearing some leaves ruffling. He shot up and took the sword from Lucas.
"Come out wherever you are!" Soon enough, Ninten stepped out with his arms up, followed by Noir. Lucas turned his head, showing Ninten his tears. "Oh my god, Lucas, what's wrong?" He ran forward, putting a hand on Lucas's back, rubbing a bit.
"Someone got to Ness." Ninten covered his mouth before standing up. Blood was still all over his face. Pit looked at Lucas, seeing him nod, showing that Ninten and Noir were to be trusted. Lucas got up and shook his head. "But that...that doesn't matter. Let's get you cleaned up. Pit, anything in the camping equipment we can use?"
"Camping equipment?" Noir questioned. Pit put his bag down and looked at her.
"Yeah, why?"
"Dang. That's what I got as well."
"Damn it, that won't help," Ninten said. Noir shook her head and stood up straight and proud.
"I'll just go and find new supplies."
"Are you sure? It's dangerous out there."
"I can handle myself. You guys just wait here." The three boys nodded and Noir ran off to try and be useful for her group. However, little did she know, she was being followed. Pit got the camping equipment out. There was some cloth there, and it allowed Lucas to clean off the blood on Ninten's face.
"Alright, Pit, we're gonna go find some food ok? Meet back up here?" Lucas asked.
"Alright, I'll get some water," Pit said. Lucas nodded. He held out his hand and smiled.
"Stay safe out there."
"You too. Don't go exploding on me," Pit laughed. Lucas nodded a bit somber-like as they shook their hands and departed.
Lucas and Ninten walked deeper into the forest. They didn't have any luck finding food. Ninten looked at Lucas and saw his face. He was distracted by something. Ninten patted his back. "Don't worry dude, Ness is watching us. He's ok."
"Yeah, but I saw him explode. That's not something I want to witness." Ninten slowly nodded his head. He understood. He wouldn't want to see his boyfriend explode. Ninten needed something to distract Lucas with. He ran over to the side of a random tree. "What're you doing?" Ninten jumped up and broke a stick off of a branch. He tossed it to Lucas, which he caught. "What's this for?"
"You fight with sticks, right?"
"Yeah."
"Good," Ninten said before breaking off another stick and turning around, getting into a readied stance. "Come try to strike me."
"What?"
"I know you love a good fight. So come on, strike me." Lucas looked down at his stick. His grip on it tightened before looking back at Ninten. He ran toward him and faked him out by seeming like he was going for an overhead strike. This fake out worked, making Ninten protect himself from the hit, but it only allowed Lucas to slam his knee into Ninten's gut and rammed his elbow into Ninten's back forcing him to the ground. Lucas smirked.
"You're lucky I can't use my powers. I evolved them quite a lot since I first joined." Ninten coughed up a bit of blood before standing up and smiling.
"Trust me, I know. I've seen your tournaments." Lucas cleaned up the blood that was on Ninten's chin.
"Gee, thanks for that, I really needed it."
"If you ever need to hit something, you know who to call." Ninten chuckled, which did make Lucas laugh.
"Alright alright, we can't be slacking on our job. Let's get going." The two of them walked deeper into the forest and soon enough, they found something of interest. It was a dead animal. A bird of sorts to be exact. It was obvious its death was pretty recent. The two of them looked around to see if the killer of this bird was anywhere near, but that didn't seem to be the case.
"Could be a trap," Ninten pointed out. "Looks too good to be true."
"Indeed." Lucas gripped his stick and cautiously stepped closer to the bird. "But we need it." Ninten gulped before following Lucas. They slowly but surely got to the bird. Lucas crouched down and grabbed the legs of the bird and sniffed it. "Smells….normal."
"HEY!" Someone jumped from the bushes. He looked like Sonic, which meant that it was Shadow. His face was of anger. "The bird is mine." He ran in, but due to the conditions of the hunger games, he was running at a normal speed, which obviously he wasn't used to so Ninten was able to bash into him and forced him to the ground. Lucas walked over and smirked.
"Sorry pal, this is ours. We found it first." Shadow tried to thrash his way out of Ninten's bonds, but Lucas simply kicked his head. That was when there was a sudden beeping. The beeping was coming from the bird, and it seemed like all three of them were confused.
"Lucas?" Ninten said.
"Dang it-" The bird then exploded in a huge explosion. There was a bomb implanted into the dead bird. But someone was smart enough to hide the incision. The smoke from the explosion cleared, and the detonator fell from the tree. It was Tails.
"Sorry, it's kill or be killed," Tails said as he looked at the wreckage. Lucas, Ninten, and Shadow's faces were heavily bruised and skin was tearing off. Some of their limbs were blown off and their skulls were exposed. They were surely dead. Tails grabbed the remnants of the bird, which was just a leg, and kept it. "My food."
Link, Young Link, Toon Link, and Marth were all traveling as a group. Partly because Marth and Link felt the need to protect the two younger Links. Despite them still being 18, they were still younger and so they still felt the need to be protected. They eventually found a beach. This beach also had a small dock. Marth turned toward the others. Before he could say what he wanted to say, one of the faraway trees fell down. Link turned to see a very angry Donkey Kong. He started pounding his chest. "WHO KILLED DIDDY!" Donkey Kong yelled at the top of his lungs. Marth was about to step forward but Link extended his arm out.
"Stay here, keep them protected. Donkey Kong is mine." He ran forward with a makeshift sword that was made out of wood, leaves, rocks, and other miscellaneous things he could find. He dodged underneath a hit from Donkey Kong and slashed upward with the sword. The sword was clearly not as strong as his normal one, but it still did make a cut. Donkey Kong's anger instantly turned to fear, realizing he was fighting Link, he'd never won a single fight against Link in the tournaments. So, he opted to run away. Knowing Donkey Kong had the possibility of returning, he chased after him.
Marth sighed before looking at the two boys. "Alright, we're going to need food. I'll start fishing. Could you two cut that tree Kong knocked down for some firewood?" Toon Link nodded ecstatically. He ran over, but Young Link was a little hesitant. In fact, his face was odd. He seemed really out of it. Marth could tell something was on his mind. "Hey, is something wrong?" Young Link looked at Marth and gulped.
"I-I'm going to need to die, aren't I?"
"What? No, you could win."
"But in order to win, I'd need to kill you, kill Link….e-even TL…" Marth wanted to tell him something, but he knew he was right. He couldn't say anything to reassure him. He just patted his back.
"Let's not think about the future too much, ok? TL needs your help." Young Link finally nodded before walking over to the tree. Marth turned around and walked toward the dock to fish. Young Link made it to the tree, where Toon Link was already cutting and breaking off the branches. He looked at Toon Link.
"How do you do it?" This question stopped Toon Link and made him look up.
"What?"
"How do you look so chill? We're in a bad situation."
"Well...I just try not to think about it, that's all." He looked back down and broke off a branch. "And plus, we volunteered to do this."
"Yeah...but now I regret it."
"Nothing bad is going to actually happen. Try to think of this as a simulation, of sorts." Toon Link grabbed the branches he broke off and walked them away, leaving young Link to his own mind. He saw Toon Link's makeshift sword on the ground. It was made out of the same material that Link's was made of. He gulped. An idea came into his mind. He grabbed the sword. He looked over at Toon Link, who struck up a conversation with Marth as he fished.
"Sorry TL...Marth…Link." He ran off into the forest. Toon Link and Marth continued talking.
"Yeah, he's never been like this before," Toon Link mentioned.
"I guess the idea of killing friends, even if it doesn't result in actually killing them, is hard on him. Maybe you'll need to convince him, this is a situation he's probably never been in." Toon Link nodded.
"Thanks, Marth." Marth simply smiled in response as Toon Link ran back toward the tree, to see the lack of Young Link.
"YL?" He soon saw Young Link's footprints. They went into the forest. He followed them. "Stupid YL, you know not to go off on your own." He made sure to grab a stick for the possibility of the need to defend himself. What concerned him was that soon enough the trail of footprints turned into a blood trail. "...YL?" His walking got faster and faster as he followed the trail, but he slid to a halt when he made it to the source of the blood. It was Young Link. He had cuts in his arms, and he was holding the sword in his hand. Toon Link could tell what happened. Toon Link stumbled forward. "No...fuck." He fell to the ground and slammed his fist into the ground. "DAMMIT! I was supposed to protect you…." he didn't have much time to mourn, because soon there was some ruffling nearby. He looked up at Young Link's lifeless body. There was a smile on his face. He was at peace. Toon Link growled before grabbing his sword. "I will win for you. I will kill them for you."
The ruffling got closer and closer. That was when his instincts kicked in and so Toon Link turned around and swung his sword. There was a person being him, Knuckles, but he dodged the strike. Knuckles got back to the person he was with. It was Crow. Crow looked over at the body behind Toon Link. "Oh wow, you really killed your own friend? You? Wow, unbelievable. Guess he was too weak." Toon Link's grip on the sword tightened as he got angrier. He ran forward and dodged an attack from Knuckles and bashed his shoulder into Crow. He then struck Knuckles' legs, making him trip. He looked down at the red echidna.
"You're useless without your powers." He then stabbed the sword right into Knuckles's left eye. The anger inside Toon Link was growing. Knuckles screamed in pain but was put out of his misery when Toon link stabbed his other eye. He ripped the sword out and stared at Crow, whose face was of shock. "You pathetic waste of space, I've heard all the stories of how you make people's lives living hell." Crow panicked a bit before grabbing a rock and tossing it at Toon Link's chest, but it was simply caught with some surprising cat-like reflexes. He tossed up the rock and smirked at Crow. "How cute."
"A-alright, man, I get it. You're grieving, I can understand that. I can leave you-"
"Yeah, no, that doesn't seem like it benefits me," Toon Link said before instantly throwing the rock back. It slammed right into Crow's gut, making him hunch forward and allowing Toon Link to run forward and slash at Crow's throat with the sword. This killed him instantly. Crow fell to the ground. Toon Link stared at the body and the anger seemed to drain out of him. He looked back at Young Link. Nothing about him changed, but now he was giving off a disappointed aroma. Toon Link felt all of that aroma as he looked at his bloody hands. He dropped the sword and made his hands into fists. He ran off.
He got back to the beach and saw Marth fishing. He had caught some fish already. Toon Link's eyes started to water. Marth heard the footsteps and turned around, seeing the bloody and crying boy running toward him. He dropped the fishing rod and stood up. "TL, what's the matter?" Toon Link rammed into him, instantly wrapping his arms around him. He didn't hesitate and just started crying.
"I-I-it's YL….h-he's…." His crying got more intense, which told Marth what he needed to know. He patted the boy's back.
"It's ok...let it out." He looked at the forest in the distance and saw Link exit them with a small cut on his cheek. Link saw the scene and instantly presumed one thing. He dropped the makeshift sword and ran over.
"Don't tell me…." Link started. Toon Link broke the hug up and sighed.
"He did it to himself...he couldn't handle it," Ness said as he tried to hold back tears, but instead just hugged Link. Link could do nothing but just let him cry.
"Alrighty, our lovely viewers, Day 1 is almost over, and what a day it was, right, ROB?" Master Hand asked as he floated behind a commentator's desk. ROB was right next to him.
"Yes, indeed, Master Hand. Alliances have already been made and deaths have already occurred."
"Yes yes, poor little Noir didn't stand a chance against the teamwork of Viridi and Lucario. They were vicious."
"And that explosion? Whoo boy, that was a lovely one."
"Very much so, my robotically operated buddy. We have a lot more in store for the day. But…" he was interrupted by a Mii, who was one of the many helpers that helped create the hunger games. The Mii brought his mouth close to Master Hand and whispered something to him. This seemed to shake him up a bit but he shooed the Mii off and cleared his throat. "Alright, a new thing. Random people will be getting certain supplies from a very good but anonymous sponsor. Those lucky few being Mega Man, Sonic, and Palutena. Good job you three, super lucky. Now then, let us continue with the games!"
Claus jumped from the tree, seeing Shulk and Joker walk down the path. Claus took a sigh of relief and continued down the opposite way on the path. His legs were starting to ache when he suddenly heard a voice. His senses kicked in and he instantly jumped onto the side of a tree and climbed up it to be out of sight. That was when Dark Pit and Dixie Kong came from the trees. Dixie Kong was walking away while Dark Pit was following with a knife, but didn't seem to have the intent to kill. "Please, Dixie! I-I can't handle this!" Dark Pit pleaded. Dixie Kong rolled her eyes before turning around.
"I'm not going to kill you. You're supposed to be tough, right? So act like it, dammit." Claus smirked, seeing the way Dark Pit looked was funny to him. Dark Pit fell to his knees.
"Dixie….please?"
"No, I'm not here to kill. I've told you this. Can't you just listen!" That was when Claus jumped from the tree.
"Get outta here, already," Claus said. Dixie looked at him and tilted her head.
"Gonna kill me?" Dixie asked.
"Not unless you try to kill me," Claus said with a bit of a smile. This friendly smile, alone, made their truce.
"Then I guess we're good." Dixie ran forward and jumped onto Claus's shoulder. With this, Claus walked off, leaving Dark Pit to himself.
"What the hell?" Dark Pit questioned. Dixie and Claus walked further down the path, making small talk.
"So your boyfriend is Diddy Kong?" Dixie Kong nodded before looking down at her hands. Claus could tell why she was like that. He sighed sympathetically before looking forward. "I'm sorry…"
"No no, it's ok. I know who killed him. But I'll see him again. It's not good to succumb to anger and frustration. People feed on those negative emotions." Claus gulped before nodding his head.
They continued walking and soon they made it to a rather open area. However, it seemed more open than it should've. Upon entering this patch of openness, Claus tripped on a fallen small tree. He and Dixie looked back at the tree. The tree was charred. It was even smokey a little bit. "The hell?" Dixie jumped from Claus's shoulders and landed in front of the charred tree.
"Looks like someone was burning this part of the forest." Claus shook his head as he rubbed the charred leaves with his right hand.
"No. It was an explosion. A big one too."
"But if it was an explosion, then wouldn't there have been a reason for it?" Claus stood up and turned around, seeing a messy small pile of three exploded bodies. The blood had dried up and the bodies were already beginning to decompose.
"Deaths….but who?" Claus walked over to the bodies and it was hard to really see who they were especially the more human ones. However, a few things survived the explosion. A few things that made Claus able to determine who these bodies were. A red scarf and a Sunflower pin. Claus stood up with a terrified look on his face as he saw the charred bodies. Dixie ran over to his side and looked down at the bodies. She gulped.
"Who are they?"
"...my brother…..and my boyfriend." Dixie looked at the two different bodies. That was when there was ruffling in the trees and bushes, causing Dixie to shoot around. Soon enough, Roy stepped out of the bushes with a sickle in his hands. He whipped away his sweat. Claus, however, wasn't thinking right. He, in his confusion and anger, growled before running toward Roy. Roy gulped before trying to back away, but Claus was surprisingly fast.
"CLAUS! WAIT!" Dixie tried to tell him but Claus was no longer listening. He rammed his knee into Roy's gut.
"YOU FUCKING KILLED THEM!" Roy fell to the ground, gripping his gut.
"I...d-didn't kill...anyone," Roy struggled to say. He had dropped the sickle because of the attack. Claus picked it up and smiled at how sharp it was.
"You pathetic liar." He swung the sickle and it stabbed right into Roy's neck and came out the bottom of the back of Roy's head. This of course killed him instantly. Claus ripped the sickle out and stared at Roy's dead body with an evil glare.
"Claus…" Claus turned around to look at Dixie Kong. His anger was changing the way his mind was working. He didn't see Dixie Kong as, well, as she normally was. But instead, he could only see Salsa. Claus trembled a bit before dropping the sickle and dropped to his knees. He felt ashamed he killed someone in front of Salsa. Tears welled up in his eyes.
"...I-I'm so sorry Salsa...I-I just don't know what came over me...I'm so damned horrible." Claus was punching his thigh in anger at himself. Dixie was more than a little confused at why she was being called Salsa, but, her being smart, assumed it was something with Claus's mental state. She could tell from the small conversation she had with him, Claus's mind wasn't right. Or at least it had the capability to change or alter. She needed to use Claus's confused mind against him to get him back to normal. She stepped forward and cleared her throat.
"Claus." She slowly shook her head. "It's ok, Claus. You simply let your past anger and welled-up emotions come out and explode. We all have that happen from time to time." Dixie placed a soft but firm hand on Claus's shoulder.
"B-but I killed an innocent man, Salsa! W-what would Lucas think of me."
"He'd be right here with me, saying the same stuff. We all have issues, Claus. Now, look at me." Claus looked directly into Dixie's eyes with a single gulp. "You didn't do anything wrong. You simply let emotions talk." Claus's eyes lowered down to his bloody hands. "He's going to be ok. You, your brother, and your boyfriend. All of you will be perfectly fine. Remember, this is just a simulation."
Those final few words stuck within Claus's head. "Just a simulation". He couldn't get those out of him. He knew this whole thing was a simulation. But the reason it was called a simulation was that it was made to simulate real things, so what was to say Lucas and Ninten weren't actually dead. But then a few more thoughts would clash. Like, "Why would Master Hand kill some of their best fighters" and "Why would they make this simulation instead of just making it real". All of those questions soon won in Claus's mind. He looked back at Dixie with a small smirk. "You sound nothing like Salsa." Dixie let out a sigh of relief.
"I didn't have much to go off of." Claus stood up and looked at what he did with Roy. He swallowed his feelings, despite being told to let them out, and closed his eyes.
"Apologies I killed ya, my bad. We still cool?" Roy, obviously, didn't respond so Claus fist-bumped his corpse and turned to look at the main attraction, his brother's and Boyfriend's bodies. He let out a small sigh before picking Dixie Kong back up.
"I'll make it to the end, you two, I promise." Claus looked at Dixie, who nodded her head, and they walked off. They did hear a faint wolf howl but it was quickly flushed out by some splashing of water. And sure enough, that was Wolf. He just drowned. He was….well, just an idiot.
Night 1
Link shot up and a huff and sweat. He gripped his chest, feeling his speedy heart pump faster and faster. He had a nightmare, one about having to search for every single Korok seed once more. "The agony…." Link said to himself. He was able to calm himself down with thoughts of Zelda and beef. He looked around and saw Marth. He was watching Toon Link. Link crawled over and sat next to him. "How's he doing?" Marth slowly shook his head.
"Not good," he said. He looked at Link. "I'm not good with younger ones, you think you could give it a shot?"
"Me? What could I do that you can't?" Marth smiled at the probably unintentional praise.
"Well, to be fair, you two are the same person, technically, right?" Link couldn't debate that. He looked over at Toon Link. Marth was right, if there was to be anyone to help Toon Link out of this slump, it would be another Link. Link cleared his throat before crawling forward and sitting next to Toon Link.
"Hey there, how are you doing?" Toon Link was staring down at his hands as he was constantly fidgeting. Link didn't get an answer from the younger Link. Link just took in a deep breath before looking up at the stars. That was when there were some cannon shots and after each shot the image of a person's face. These were the people who had gotten killed. Incineroar, Mythra, Rex, Ness, Shadow, Lucas, Ninten, Knuckles, Crow, Noir, Roy, Young Link, Diddy Kong, and Wolf. Toon Link saw this. He felt even worse. He looked down and shut his eyes.
"Dammit…" Link looked over at him. He saw tears fall from his eyes. Link put a hand on Toon Link's back and rubbed it to hopefully make him feel more at ease. Toon Link looked up at Link.
"I know you're going through something, but your friends wouldn't want you to be so down in the dumps. They'd want to see your true personality. They want to see you win and have fun doing it." Toon Link tilted his head.
"They're watching me?" Link nodded his head and pointed out to a random star in the sky. Toon Link looked at that star and a somber smile appeared on his face. He stared at the star for a good while before turning his hands into strong fists. "I can't be a pussy in front of them!" Link was taken aback.
"Uh...y-yeah, don't do that." Toon Link stood up, still staring at the star. Before long, he flipped the star off.
"That's what y'all get for sucking!" He ran off over to the water where Marth fished earlier and tossed a few rocks out of pure anger. Link looked at Marth, confused.
"Guess you guys still have different ways to cope with things. At least he seems fine," Marth said before he and Link looked at Toon LInk as he was continuing throwing rocks into the water. After a bit, Toon Link seemed to calm down and walked back to the older adults. He sat down and let out a sigh. "How you feeling now?"
"Better." He smiled, and the smile seemed actually genuine. "This just proves I'm better than they are." He giggled to himself, which was very heartwarming for the other two to hear. "And I'll make sure they know about it too after all of this is over." Marth smiled and copied Toon Link's positivity that was just radiating off of him. Link ruffled Toon Link's hair with a smile on his face.
"Alright, now that we're all feeling better, let's try to get some sleep. We'll need to be well-rested for tomorrow," Link said. Toon Link crossed his arms and huffed.
"I'm not a little kid anymore!" He then looked at the stern faces of both Link and Marth before looking at his tent. "But I guess I can sleep, whatever." Toon Link crawled into his tent, leaving the other two to themselves. The two of them exchanged looks.
"Well, that went better than I expected," Link patted his own back. Marth shrugged.
"You both are Links, after all, it'd be shocking if you couldn't help him," Marth pointed out. Link laid back and looked up at the stars. Marth looked up there. "You think what you said about those stars are true?"
"I would think so…"
"You know, if one of us were to win, it'd involve us needing to kill each other."
"I know. No hard feelings?" Marth looked at Link's soft face and chuckled.
"No hard feelings." Marth laid down next to Link and looked up at the stars. They stayed like this for a while before they slowly, but surely, fell asleep.
Day 2
Dixie Kong woke up and looked at Claus's peaceful sleeping body. She smiled before shaking him. "Wakey wakey." Claus slowly woke up and yawned loudly.
"Yeah yeah yeah, I'm up Lucas.." Claus sat up and shook his head. He then saw Dixie Kong and grew a cold sweat. "S-sorry." Dixie Kong shook her head. During the night, the two of them had set up a camp. Claus grabbed the sickle he had and looked over at Dixie. "Alright, you sure you'll be ok?"
"Of course, I'm not an ordinary monkey. Go on and hunt, I'll be fine." Claus was still a bit hesitant to leave her, but he finally did. He walked into the forest with his sickle.
Dixie sat down on a log that was cut in half to be used as a bench of sorts. She yawned before going in for a huge stretch. After hearing some satisfying and needed cracks, she stopped. However, it turned out that not all of those cracks were hers. She shot around and saw Dark Pit. "Dark Pit! I'm not going-"
"I know, I know," Dark Pit said with his hands out. He was soon joined by Falco and Mario. All three of them were unarmed and peaceful-looking.
"What do you want?"
"We need your help." Dixie crossed her arms and her eyes grew suspicious.
"With distracting a group. DP told us you're peaceful. You could distract someone with that niceness," Falco explained.
"And we need you to do that. We're running low on supplies…" Mario started before looking for Dark Pit to finish.
"And we need to raid someone's camp," Dark Pit finished.
"Now why would I help you with that?"
"Just please, we promise not to take too much. Just enough for us to survive." Dixie didn't want anyone to die, especially if she could prevent it in some way. She looked around her camp and sighed.
"How far away is this camp?"
"Not far at all," Falco started, seeming to be the navigator. "Just about a few yards that way." Falco pointed out in a random direction. Dixie thought some more before finally coming up with an answer.
"Fine. No violence, no overboard, got it?" The three men nodded before Falco walked off, leading the way. Dixie was having some second thoughts but went with the three of them anyway. They walked through the forest for quite a long time before making it to the camp. Dixie, agitated that it took longer than they expected, just wanted to get it over with.
"Byleth is that-a-way," Mario said, pointing to a yellow tent. Dixie nodded before walking off toward the tent. She cleared her throat, earning a manly gasp of fear to come from the inside of the tent.
"M-my apologies, I just need some help."
"How can I trust you?" Byleth's voice came from the inside of the tent.
"You can't. But you must." Byleth was somehow convinced by this and stepped out. He looked at Dixie.
"Hello there."
"Hi…"
"You said you needed help?" Dixie nodded her head. "Well, with what?"
"I'm lost. I need to find the lake."
"Oh, the lake? That's no biggie. It's th-"
"N-no! Can you take me there?" Dixie used some puppy dog eyes which won over the young professor almost instantly.
"Alright, just uh…..just follow me." Byleth looked around and gulped before walking off. Dixie followed. They entered the forest, with Dixie looking back to see Dark Pit and the others entering the camp. Byleth didn't lead Dixie for very long, since there was a lake nearby. Dixie thanked the man before letting him walk off. Dixie decided to follow from a distance, and eventually, when she returned to the sight of the camp, she saw it completely ransacked.
"Those….idiots." Byleth was shattered, and Dixie felt insanely bad, but she wouldn't show her face to him. She ran off back to her own camp. However, when she got there, that camp was also ransacked. "They….I shouldn't have trusted them!" Dixie sat down as she just stared around, fully regretting leaving with them. She stayed like this until she heard some more steps from the forest, and when she looked around, she saw Claus. Claus had a pig over his shoulder and dropped it at the sight of the camp. Dixie started feeling tears well up in her eyes. She ran over to him and brought him into a hug. "I'm so so sorry…" Due to Dixie's size compared to him, Claus easily puts a hand on her head.
"It's alright.."
"NO! I-I left the camp! I left it vulnerable…" Claus leaned down to look at her in her eyes.
"It's ok, I mean it. You're safe. I'm safe. We're safe. That's what matters. It's not safe to keep a camp in the same place anyway." Claus stood up and grabbed the pig. He walked off to prepare it to eat. Dixie was left there, thinking over what she did. She still couldn't forgive herself for it. She shook her head before following him.
Marth, Link, and Toon Link were walking through the forest. They all had homemade swords in case they needed to fight. They were walking in silence, not wanting to alert anyone of their closeness. However, not everyone was like that, and soon they heard noises of a larger group walking around. And soon enough, with the swordsmen bringing out their swords, encountered the group. It was Dr. Willy, Shulk, Joker, and Pit. The three swordsmen readied themselves to fight, but Pit stepped forward, holding his hands out, and trying to show they meant no harm.
"Chill, everyone, let's not explode in a fight, ok?" Pit said. The three swordsmen weren't going to let loose so easily.
"How can we trust you?" Marth asked.
"Because the three of you are better swordsmen than we are, we'd lose since we don't have our powers."
"I'm a good swordsma-" Shulk was saying before Pit punched his gut. Link stepped forward, being careful of course, and looked directly at Pit.
"So, what do you want?" Link asked.
"Travel together, protect each other."
"I would quite enjoy that as well," Dr. Willy eagerly said, having zero actual fighting experience. Joker was also very eager. Despite his fighting experience, he was stripped of his Persona powers, so he was just an average high schooler. Marth, of course, knew all of this. Which added to the validity of what Pit said.
"Link, come back." Link did and turned toward Marth as Toon Link kept his eyes on the new group, telling them to put their arms up, which they did.
"We can't trust them," Link whispered.
"I know, but look at them. It's a flightless angel without his weapons, a high schooler, and an old man. I doubt any of those three have our type of fighting capabilities. Shulk might need some extra attention though," Marth explained. Link looked back at the group. "And if I'm wrong, I'd eat my own foot." Link looked back with a smirk.
"Better keep to that promise then." Link winked before fully turning around to look at the group. "Alright, we'll work together." Pit smiled as he and his group lowered their arms. Link, Toon Link, and Marth walked with the group, chatting with them. They seemed friendly. They walked and entered a pretty large camp. Shulk plopped down and started a campfire as Joker brought over a few birds from one of their tents. Shulk looked over at the Swordsmen.
"Wanna chow down on some poultry?" Shulk asked as he shook a dead bird he was about to skin. The three of them nodded, knowing they haven't eaten all day. They ran over and started helping Shulk skin the birds. After skinning them, it didn't take too long to cook them. They passed them out for everyone to eat, and once more, they were friendly.
"Alright, so how long do you think this will last?" Pit asked as he bit into the wing of a bird.
"Too long," Marth answered.
"Just an FYI, I'm going to win," Toon Link announced before biting into his bird. Joker chuckled before copying Toon Link.
"We'll have to see about that.." Toon Link and Joker stared at each other for a bit. There was then an off aroma about the camp. Both Pit and Link felt that aroma. Pit looked at Link and they had the same idea.
"Excuse us for a second," Link said, standing up, and walking off into the forest with Pit. They stayed in the forest. Link crossed his arms. "I'm starting to regret coming here, by the way."
"I know my group is competitive, especially Joker, but we truly don't mean any harm."
"And why can't I shake the feeling that you're lying?"
"We're not ly-"
"No no, not them." Link walked forward and stared directly at Pit with determined eyes. "You." Link's voice was darker and deeper. He was practically growling, and hearing that from Link sent shivers through Pit's spin. But mainly….because he was right. Pit slammed his head into Link and kicked him deeper into the forest.
"Congrats, Link, what gave me away." Link rolled around from being kicked but stood up.
"Your want to ally with us. The last time I remember...we weren't quite fond of each other." Pit smirked before showing off that he had picked up Link's homemade sword.
"This is a beut. Has nothing on mine back home, of course."
"What I don't understand is that you'd never want to kill, so why now?" Pit giggled, his voice sounded actually maniacal.
"Lady Palutena's guidance. I watched her strangle poor Pyra to death. And of course, she told me what I must do. And as the goddess's number one angel, I do as she says." Pit ran forward with the sword and tried to slash at him, but Link was able to dodge. He and Pit butt heads all the time, but neither of them wanted or even felt like they wanted to actually severely hurt the other. They just wouldn't want to spend too much time together.
"Pit, this isn't you!"
"You don't know who I AM! I AM LADY PALUTEN'S NUMBER ONE FUCKING ANGEL!" He ran in faster for another slash, but much like last time, Link rolled out of the way. Something was severely wrong with Pit.
"Snap out of it! You're not a killer."
"STOP TELLING ME WHO I AM!" He ran in again, Link dodged. Pit was smart. Link knew this. Something was clouding Pit's judgment, his smarts. He would never try the same attack three times in a row, knowing Link could just dodge. Pit looked back at Link, his eyes were...different. They almost looked scared. But Pit's body was the total opposite. "FOR LADY PALUTENA!" Pit propelled forward with his wings, which sped him up, causing Link to be unable to dodge. Pit grabbed Link by his neck and slashed his side. Link let out a small cry before slamming his head into Pit. Pit wasn't letting up.
Then suddenly a ball slammed into Pit's head. Both Pit and Link looked at the ball that was thrown. It looked like a Pokeball, but not the traditional-looking Pokeball. It was wooden. It looked like it was makeshift but functional somehow. Pit was struck with another, and another, and soon enough he let go of Link and growled into the trees. "Who's there?!" Link looked up at the trees and saw Red? It was definitely Red. He looked down at Link before jumping down onto Pit and not wasting any time to grab his head and just snap it. He let go of Pit's head before turning toward Link, grabbing his Pokeballs. He attached the Pokeballs to his belt and grabbed the sword. He walked over to Link.
"Are you going to try and kill me now, Red?"
"I would." He then tossed the sword down at Link's side. "But your job is to protect TL. I can't take that away. He's the only reason you're alive right now. Better keep it that way." Link gulped as he watched Red run off. He grabbed his sword and ran to where the other two were.
"Hey, where's Pit?" Shulk asked. He grabbed Toon Link's collar and Marth's arm and ran off without answering the question.
"Link? What's wrong?" Toon Link asked.
"Pit tried to kill me. We're getting away from them." The other two didn't need any more convincing.
"Damn, now I have to eat my foot…" Marth chuckled as he was being dragged off by Link, who had a small smile on his face that he was right.
Night 2
Dixie and Claus fixed up their camp and finally had time to relax. They laid down and looked up at the stars. "Man, the sky is perfect…" Claus sighed happily. Dixie nodded her head. They laid there for a second before Claus's sharp hearing picked something up. He sat up and looked around.
"What is it?"
"I hear someone. Sounds like they're in pain." Dixie jumped onto her feet.
"Where." Claus pointed in the direction of the noise and Dixie ran toward it. She passed the first tree and boom, right there was Sonic. It looked like he had twisted his ankle. Dixie crouched down to his grounded level. "Hey, are you alright?" Sonic looked at Dixie with pleading eyes.
"C-can you help? I...I can't move."
"No worries, I got you." Dixie grabbed Sonic's arm and carefully led him to the camp. He laid Sonic down, causing Sonic to groan in pain. Claus ran over to the blue blur, with a side of him that was suspicious.
"Hey, Sonic, is it?" Claus asked. Sonic nodded his head. Claus looked down at Sonic's feet. "What happened?"
"I'm not used to running slowly...I tripped and a rock fell on my feet," Sonic said.
"And with your feet being skinny, that rock might've done permanent damage." Sonic groaned loudly.
"Stupid me, should've known better."
"Don't beat yourself up. We all make mistakes." Dixie looked down at the word, mistakes. And it seemed the world heard her because someone barged in on the three of them. They were at the opposite side of their camp, and when Dixie looked to see who it was, she saw Byleth. She shot up and she noticed an angered look on his face.
"YOU!" Byleth stomped forward. Claus stood up and stood in front of Dixie.
"Back it up."
"She lied to me. She just wanted to ruin my camp!" Claus turned toward Dixie with a confused face.
"What?"
"I….it wasn't supposed to be a full ransack, it was just supposed to be getting some stuff. I was lied to…" Claus turned back toward Byleth and pulled his sickle from his homemade sheath on his back.
"I would still back away if I were you, professor." Byleth saw Sonic and brought out his weapon. This homemade weapon was strange. It acted like his Sword of the Creator. He extended out and wrapped around Sonic's legs, making him yell in pain as he was yanked back. Byleth grabbed Sonic's head.
"You don't get it, I'd be the one running if I were you." That was when Byleth instantly slammed Sonic's head into a rock. He did this over and over and over again. He was doing this as he stared at the other two. "This is my camp now. Stay here, and you'll end up like Sonic here." Byleth held up Sonic to show his face pushed in, a bloody mess, and his skull visible. Byleth tossed Sonic away. "Now leave." Claus, while still looking at Byleth, grabbed Dixie's hand and ran off into the forest. Dixie couldn't get the image of Sonic's body out of her head. If she hadn't lied, he would've died. She just couldn't stop thinking, even as Claus was dragging her through the village. Even as the cannons were shot for the deaths in the previous day and night went off, for Pit and Pyra, she couldn't think of anything different.
Night 3
As the canon shots for both Shulk and Sonic explode, Claus and Dixie continue walking through the forest. They haven't been given much time to relax, too scared to bunker down in case they were being followed, especially by a vengeful Byleth. During the walk, Claus tripped and twisted his ankle. He let out a small grunt as he used a nearby tree to stand up. "Claus?"
"Ack, damn. My ankle…" Dixie looked down at it and analyzed it to the best of her ability. It wasn't bad. It would heal if he didn't walk on it. "How's it look?"
"Not good. You can't walk on it."
"What? I need to walk. We can't camp right here."
"If you walk, it won't heal it." Claus groaned before sliding down the tree.
"Dammit." Dixie thought for a moment before climbing up the tree. "What're you doing?" Dixie didn't answer as she continued climbing. She got up to the top and scanned around the nearby forest. She did see that there was a waterfall nearby. But her attention was taken from that when she saw movement. She couldn't see exactly who it was, but they were there and were heading to a path that was cut out from the forest. She jumped back down and smiled.
"Alright, stay right here."
"What?" Dixie ran off despite Claus yelling for her to not. She got to the cut-out path through the forest. She didn't need to wait long before the people she saw walked out and entered the path. It was Marth, Link, and Toon Link. Each of them pulled out their swords and pointed them at her.
"Back away!" Link yelled. Dixie held up her hands.
"Please, I don't mean any harm…" she pleaded, but the three Swordsmen didn't budge.
"Yeah, I've been told that before."
"I-it's my friend. He twisted his ankle and I'm too small to carry him…" Marth stepped forward a bit.
"Who's this friend?" Marth asked.
"Claus." Toon Link lowered his guard as a smile spread across his face.
"Claus? Ginger boy with green eyes and sub-par social skills?"
"Yeah. You know him?" Toon Link nodded his head before looking up at the other two.
"He's a friend of mine. Can we help him?" Link and Marth exchanged looks of suspicion for a bit before nodding. Toon Link stepped forward and smiled. "Lead the way." Dixie nodded before running into the forest followed by the three others, with Link and Marth still having their swords out just in case. Soon enough, they made it to Claus. Toon Link ran to his side. Claus couldn't help as a small smile crept onto his face.
"TL, surprised you're still alive." Toon Link giggled before looking at his foot.
"Yeesh, tripped?" Claus nodded his head. Toon Link looked over at Marth. "Could you carry him?" Marth was a little hesitant. However, he saw the look Toon Link was giving him and he just couldn't deny him what he wanted. He sighed before sheathing his sword and picking Claus up.
"Thank you," Claus said. Dixie jumped onto Toon Link's shoulders.
"There's this little waterfall nearby, we can bunker down there for the night," she said. They then started walking off, but Link still didn't put his sword away. They continued walking for a while and soon made it to the waterfall. It was a sight to behold. The rocky shore around the small lake that the waterfall was falling into, the small rainbow being formed from the rainbow down into the lake. And the flat area just a few feet away from the rocky shore.
"Woah, pretty," Toon Link said in awe. Dixie nodded. Marth walked into the flat part of the area and laid Claus down.
"You alright?" Marth asked him.
"Yeah...I'll just need to be off it for a bit." Link looked at the boy then over at Dixie and Toon Link admiring the waterfall. Marth approached him.
"You think we can trust them?" Link thought for a moment before sighing and sheathing his sword.
"Yeah, I think so," Link said.
"Alright, I'm going hunting, I'll be back, ok?" Link nodded and walked over to Claus as Marth walked into the forest.
"Alright, I'm going to try something, apologies if this'll hurt you." Claus simply stayed quiet and allowed Link to do what he wanted. Link wrapped his hands around Claus's ankle, making Claus flinch. "It's ok. Just uh...here." Link gave Claus a small bandana. "Bite down on this." Claus nodded and put it in his mouth and readied himself to bite down. Link prepared himself before massaging the ankle, making Claus bite down hard on the bandana. Link continued and started twisting and rubbing in different ways making Claus's hands shake from pain. Link stopped after a good bit and took the bandana softly. "Alright, hopefully, you'll heal faster now." Claus had some tears in his eyes from the pain. "S-sorry…"
"No no...it's ok." Claus sat up and looked at his ankle. "Damn, I did a number on it." Toon Link walked over.
"Hey, Claus, can we talk?" Toon Link asked. He looked back at Link and he excused himself, walking over to Dixie. Toon Link sat down next to Claus with a low and sad face.
"What's the matter?"
"YL...he killed himself." Claus lowered his head and sighed. He knew Young Link was dead, because of the cannon shots, but he didn't know that was how he died.
"I'm sorry to hear."
"Yeah, but I felt so angry….th-that I killed two innocent people in his name..is….is something wrong with me?" Claus slowly shook his head.
"No. And if that does mean something is wrong with you, we're in it together. I saw Lucas's and Ninten's bodies….or what was left of them at least. I ended up killing an innocent man…." The two of them started going quiet. "But my friend there, she told me that anger will only make you a target. Anger only makes you vulnerable. We just need to think that they will always be with us, and we'll at least get to brag about us lasting longer than they have when we get back." Toon Link giggled before laying back and looking up at the stars. Claus copied him.
"Link said that if we imagine the stars as our friends and family, we'll never feel alone ever." Claus smiled at the thought.
"Heh, Ninten being a star makes sense then." Toon Link looked at him with a sly smirk.
"Why, cause he's hot as fuck?" Claus instantly blushed and looked away.
"N-n-no, cause he's full of gas." Toon Link giggled before sitting up and patting Claus's back.
"Sure, whatever you say, lovebird." Claus rolled his eyes.
"I hate you." Link watched this from a distance, and while being unable to hear what they said, he appreciated seeing Toon Link laugh and have a wide, genuine, smile on his face.
Joker was wrapping a homemade dagger in a small sheath of leaves. Dr. Willy walked over with a confused look. "What're you doing, kid?"
"Getting payback."
"For what?" Joker stood up and turned toward him.
"Pit was killed. Link killed him. And I'm going to find him."
"Then what am I going to do?"
"Follow if you want. I don't care." Joker started walking off. Dr. Willy just looked at him.
"Why does it matter? The whole point of this game is to kill, Link was just playing it." Joker turned around, his eyes seemingly flickering. Dr. Willy took a step back, shocked at the way his eyes were slightly changing.
"I trusted him. He betrayed that trust!" Joker turned around and seemingly growled.
"Never again. Fool me once, shame on me…." Just then Chrom walked in and readied himself after seeing Joker.
"Turn around and I won't hurt you, Ren," Chrom ordered. He then saw the change of Joker's eyes and lowered his weapon for a second. "You...ok Ren?" He ran in and inspected Joker's eyes more. "Hey, you need help. Something is wron-" Chrom shakily looked down and saw his own sword pierced inside of him.
"Fool me twice, shame on you." Joker rammed the sword deeper into Chrom's chest and pushed him over as he slowly died. Joker looked back. "Are you coming or what?"
"Uh, y-yes I am!" Dr. Willy ran forward to follow Joker.
Day 4
Link and the others decided to leave the peaceful waterfall area. They were walking for quite a while but soon they heard someone in the trees. Link stopped and so did the others behind him. He looked up and saw Red. He rolled his eyes. "Get down here Red. Just be with us." Toon Link looked up and saw Red. He smiled widely.
"RED!" Toon Link excitedly yelled. Red had a smile too as he dropped from the tree and brought Toon Link into a hug. "Where've you been?"
"He's been guarding you from the trees." Red turned his head and gave him an evil glare before returning to Toon Link.
"Had to make sure my friends were safe, right?"
"S-sorry...about Young Link." Red slowly shook his head.
"It's ok." He turned his attention toward Claus and walked to him. He extended his arm toward him with a smile.
"Hey there, Claus. Sorry I couldn't help you with….Lucas and Ninten." Claus let out a soft sigh.
"It's ok."
"If it helps, I know who killed them." Claus shook his head.
"I don't really want to know." Red sympathetically nodded, patting Claus's shoulder and turning toward Link and Marth.
"Let's get going." And just like that, Red was a part of their mary little group. They searched tree to tree. Claus and Link even got a bit pricked from picking berries, but they weren't too bad. Red, Toon Link, and Dixie would often swap with helping Claus walk until he was able to walk relatively well by himself.
Dr. Willy and Joker were walking, with Dr. Willy still slightly scared to mess up and get killed. He was struggling a bit to actually keep up with the anger-filled boy. So much so that often he'd need to run because Joker was quite the fast walker. "W-wait up!" Dr. Willy mistakenly said, causing Joker to stop and shoot a look back at him.
"You're lucky I'm keeping you alive! But you're slowing me down." Right then and there, Mona ran in, having seen Joker and hoping for some protection from him. He jumped up and hugged Joker. However, Joker wasn't willing to hug back. He grabbed Mona's ears and used his dagger to cut Mona's head off and tossed it toward Dr. Willy. "I'll be back when I want to win. Now leave." Joker was the one that left, unphased by the death he caused. Dr. Willy grabbed Mona's head, with the look of betrayal forever present on the weird cat's face. He tossed it away and heard some leaves crunching behind him. He shot around but didn't see anything. He gulped before running through the trees.
He continued running for a while, for as long as his old bones could handle at least. He couldn't run for too long, however, needing to stop. He found himself at a camp. He sat down to try and catch his breath, but he was interrupted by Byleth clearing his throat from behind him. Dr. Willy jumped before turning around. Byleth stood tall and strong, with him having strange eyes as well. Byleth crossed his arms. "You're intruding."
"S-sorry, I'm just...I need time to rest." Byleth shook his head. He grabbed Dr. Willy's arm and dragged him off, while he was struggling. Byleth tossed Dr. Willy forward. He picked his head up to see two other people, tied up and blindfolded. They were King K Rool and Krystal. Dr. Willy stood up and turned around. "What's the meaning of this?"
"Someone like you needs to toughen up. You must kill one of them. Or you're the one that gets killed." Dr. Willy gulped before looking at the two different anthropomorphic animals. Byleth handed him a sickle. Dr. Willy walked forward and looked between the two.
"I-I don't know about this."
"NOW!" This made him jump and hold the sickle out. He walked forward and, based on their looks, knew the one he didn't want to make an enemy of. He looked at Krystal.
"You…" Krystal pleaded for him not to kill her, but he needed to do this. He gulped before slashing at Krystal's gut, making her fall forward. Dr. Willy had his eyes closed. He was bad, but he didn't want to kill anyone that wasn't a robot. Byleth approached him from behind and chuckled.
"We're going to get those bastards for lying to me," Byleth said as his eyes shone a dark blue.
Day 5
The cannon shots from the night before, Chrom, Rosalina, Tails, Mona, and Krystal, caused some mild confusion for Claus. Mainly for Tails. He wasn't quite sure how he felt. After Tails' cannon shot, Red told him that he was the one that killed his brother and boyfriend. His confusion continued into the next day. Claus, Dixie, and Red were sitting down, with the other two trying to support Claus out of his slump. "I just can't believe it was him…" Claus said.
"Hey, come on, he's gone now, nothing much to think of now, right?" Dixie asked. Claus knew she was right, but he still couldn't get it out of his head.
"GUYS GUYS GUYS!" Toon Link ran forward with a strange bag of random stuff. He stopped in front of the three of them and put the bag down.
"What is it?" Red asked.
"Food! I got it from a sponsor apparently." The two adults walked over and looked at the bag.
"Congrats," Link said as he patted Toon Link's back.
"Shall we eat then?" Marth asked. Toon Link smiled happily before opening up the bag and distributing the bread and steak out. They started eating for a while, enjoying the good food they haven't had for a good while. After eating the food, Toon Link exaggeratedly fell back with a happy sigh.
"That was so good…" Toon Link said before a burp escaped his lips. "Excuse me." Dixie giggled.
"Agreed," Dixie said.
"Sorry to burst your bubble…" a deep and slightly maniacal sounding voice said. Everyone looked in the direction of the voice and found Joker there, with some evil deep blue eyes. Red stepped forward.
"Ren?" Red asked.
"Hello there, Red," Palutena said as she appeared next to Joker. She too had the deep blue evil eyes. Their faces looked evil. Marth and Link stepped in front of the younger ones. Red, however, wasn't willing to get behind them. The eyes of Joker reminded him too much of Pit.
"Go, now," Red ordered back for his group to leave.
"But we don't want to lose you…" Toon Link said. Red turned his head and had a smirk on his face.
"I won't die so easily. Just trust me, go." Marth and Link looked at each other before nodding. They ran off with the others behind them. However, Palutena ran after them, which Red allowed. He stared at Joker. "I have you know, Pit died like a bitch." Joker's eyes started twitching.
"You killed him?"
"You know it. I guess you can say, there's red on my ledger," Red said that with a very sly smirk. Joker growled.
"YOU STUPID BITCH!" Red finally got the info he wanted. Joker wasn't acting the way he would normally act. Something was changing him, and he suspected it had something to do with the Hunger Games as a whole.
"Come get me then," Red said as he threw one of his wooden Pokeballs at Joker and ran in the direction that the others went.
Marth and Link were still leading the others away, but they both sensed that they were being followed so they brought out their swords. They made it to a plain area where Palutena met them. Marth and Link stayed ahead of the others as they held their swords forward. "Back away, lady of light," Marth said, stepping forward.
"That's GODDESS of light to you!" Palutena yelled at him.
"Goddesses are meant to help, to support. Not to kill and lead your subjects to do the same. You're no goddess," Link said, stepping side-by-side with Marth and both gripping their swords harder. Palutena's eyes twitched. She ran forward with an angered expression forever stuck on her face. Link ran forward but crouched down and kicked Palutena's feet, causing her to trip forward for Marth to hit her head with the hilt of his sword. This knocked her back allowing Link to kick her back, making her cry loudly. But it also made her raise her head, which made the perfect target for when Marth sliced off Palutena's head. The head fell and hit the ground. He looked down at it and gulped.
"Now we wait...we're not going to abandon Red," Marth said before looking at the others. Dixie was the only one that was really shocked at the death. She shook her head, trying to get the image out of her head.
Red continued running, with Joker still following. Red knew he couldn't go right toward the others, if he did, he'd make them a target instantly. So, what he decided to do was take Joker around the forest, leading him away from the others, before going there himself. He looked back and didn't see Joker, so he thought it was about time to do the plan, however, he tripped and sprained his ankle. "Fuck.." He looked back and saw Joker finally. But it didn't seem like Joker noticed him, Red was laying down now, unintentionally, but still lying down. He decided to take a risk. He brought out a Pokeball and tossed it at a tree, this was perfectly thrown and it made the Pokeball ricochet off tree from tree before hitting Joker in the head. "Hell yeah, I knew throwing balls would come in handy." He then covered his body with leaves, mud, sticks, grass, anything he saw on the path to make it seem like he was part of it.
Joker stood up and picked the ball up. "Stupid red. YOU THINK YOUR BALLS WILL DO SHIT?" Joker stormed forward, getting Red more and more anxious as he was a simple wrong step from death. He would surely be noticed if he was stepped on, but if he wasn't, he'd be unnoticed. Joker continued down the path and….completely bypassed Red. Joker turned around a tree and continued, leaving Red to himself. He stood up and sighed. He struggled to run as fast as he could through the trees. This was ruining his ankle more than it already was.
Marth was getting a bit impatient and scared that something happened until he heard something. He turned around and saw Red laying on the ground. "Red?"
"I'm good….fuck, my ankle isn't though." Claus walked over and analyzed the sprain.
"He must've walked on it, a lot," Claus said. Dixie climbed up onto Claus and gulped.
"That's not good...where's Joker?" she asked. Marth helped him stand.
"I don't know. Likely still finding me. We need to go. Where's the Goddess?" Red asked. Marth turned to show him the dead body. "Sheesh, good thing she's not a goddess here." Link grabbed his sword and looked around.
"Alright, we need to head out before it's too late. Let's go," Link said before leading the group away from the trees.
Night 5
The shimmering stars were amazing sights, even if they were fake. Toon Link and Dixie were enjoying the show that the stars were giving them. "Can't believe the sky is so beautiful," Toon Link said with a happy sigh.
"As someone who lives under the stars….I never get tired of this sight."
"I dunno how one can physically be unable to like this sight."
"Hey, you two, food time," Red called out. Toon Link and Dixie sat up. They ran over to the campfire that Red started. He had cooked some fish that Marth fished up. Every one of them was sitting around the campfire. They were just enjoying each other's time.
"So, Red, you ricocheted the ball off of a tree and hit Joker in the head?" Marth asked.
"No. I ricocheted it off multiple trees to hit him in the face."
"How is that even possible? Aren't the Pokeballs made of wood?" Claus asked with his normal suspicions.
"Just accept things, sheesh. It's like ghost stories all over again," Toon Link said while playfully rolling his eyes.
"Ghosts don't exist, TL, I've told you this plenty of times."
"But Lucas said-"
"Lucas still believes in the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus." Toon Link shot up.
"SANTA CLAUS ISN'T REAL!?" Red chuckled.
"Hey hey, don't shame him on his beliefs….even if he's too old to be thinking Santa is real."
"Hey, you never know. Red, you're from a world where there are literal horses with the powers to shake the damn earth," Marth started. Marth then looked at Claus. "And Claus, wasn't there a whole castle that had tons of ghosts inside it?" Claus scoffed.
"Oshe Castle…"
"Ok, now, let's just say each of our beliefs are valid for various reasons. The only ones that aren't valid are the ones that think modern Minecrafters are better than older ones."
"Agreed," everyone said in unison.
"You've been loving that game huh?" Link asked as he tossed away fish bones.
"Duh. Such a good game. Steve should be proud."
"I'm sure he is," Dixie said as she chewed on some bones. "His game became the most famous ever."
"Lucky," Claus said as he finished his fish. Toon Link yawned.
"Welp, with that, it's time for us to go to sleep," Link ordered as he stood up and stretched his back. He gathered all of the fish bones. "Settle down and you'd best be asleep in an hour." Toon Link rolled his eyes.
"FINE DAD!" He groaned before walking off. He was followed by the others as they all laid down. Red was the only one that didn't mainly because he couldn't. Marth looked at him.
"Hey, want to use my sword as a cane?" Marth asked, holding him his sword. Red took it and stood up, using the sword as support.
"Alright, I'll just go take a leak and I'll be back."
"Alright. Stay safe." Marth walked over and laid down on the ground behind a tree, much like the others. Red left for the trees. He quickly unloaded his bladder before sighing in relief.
"Damn, never thought I'd enjoy peeing in a forest." Red giggled to himself before hearing some leaves ruffling. He twisted around toward the noise and raised the sword, but forgot he needed it and felt immense pain, putting it back down. "Hello?" Soon, Pikachu popped down from the trees. He let out a sigh of relief. "Thank god it's just you. So good to see you, Pikachu." Pikachu smiled, before tilting his head, looking at Red's foot. Red lowered down and sat against the tree. "I messed my foot up, buddy. It'll be ok, though." Pikachu walked to the sword, confused. "Oh, this? A friend gave it to me to help me walk." Pikachu grabbed the sword and smiled at it. Red smiled too. "The sword is bigger than you are," Red said with a giggle.
"Pi.." Pikachu said as he looked at Red.
"What?" Suddenly, Pikachu's eyes changed and grew that dark evil blue color. "P-Pikachu?"
About an hour later, Link was doing his typical look around the others to make sure they were asleep. While looking around he found that Red wasn't with them. He walked back to the campfire, where Marth was. "Hey, where's Red?" Link asked.
"He's not over there?" Marth asked. Link shook his head. "Strange, he went to go pee in the woods-" Marth shot up. A look between the two solidified their thoughts. They ran over into the woods and sure enough found Red's body. It was sitting against a tree with slash after slash at his chest and slashes over his eyes. Link covered his mouth. "No….poor Red…." Link looked at Marth.
"We can't tell TL. He'd be too broken up."
"Agreed...w-we just need an excuse." As they continued talking about how to handle this, they were being watched. By none other than Dixie herself. She saw how they seemed to be unsympathetic and even willing to lie. She ran off back to her spot before she was found out though.
Night 6
During the day, both Link and Marth convinced the others that Red simply went out. Claus was suspicious but he had no reason to not trust both of them so he believed them, and when he did, the others followed. Dixie being the only one to know the truth. Link and Marth knew that the cannon shots were going to be fired soon, so they needed to distract them. They were able to convince them to clean up an area for a campsite. They were used to hearing cannon shots so they wouldn't really look up at them. And just then, boom, six cannon shots. Red, King K. Rool, Dr. Willy, Proto Man, Fox, and Pikachu, most of which died during the day. Link stretched his back before stepping forward.
"Hey, Claus, want to go fishing with me?" Link asked. Claus tossed some sticks into the trees.
"Sure, I've always wanted to learn," Claus said. He looked back at the others. "Alright, I'll be back with some food. Stay safe y'all." Dixie ran forward and gulped.
"Y-you better stay safe too." Claus chuckled before patting Dixie's head.
"Of course." He walked over to Link before both of them walked over to the nearby shore. Dixie watched as they left, with a nervous look on her face.
"What's the matter?" Marth asked her, she just shook her head and waved her arms to say nothing was wrong. She ran back to Toon Link and continued.
Link and Claus made it to the shore. Link took in a deep breath of the cool shore breeze before bringing out his fishing rod. He looked at Claus. "Alright, so you just pay attention to what I do," he said, making Claus nod. Link brought the fishing rod back before throwing it forward making the bait fly out and into the water. Link sat down and sighed peacefully. "Ahh, fishing is peaceful. Here." Link patted the spot next to him, in which he sat down. Claus did it, and so Link gave him the fishing rod. They waited there for a good while before there was finally some pulling on the rod. "Alright, great, now pull back as you move this around," Link said as he pointed at the handle. Claus did as he was told. "Ok, now stop for a bit then resume." Claus did so and continued doing so until boom, he finally brought out the fish. He grew a super-wide smile as he jumped in excitement.
"I DID IT!" Claus excitedly said. Link chuckled before ruffling Claus's hair.
"Yeah, you did." The fish wasn't the biggest, but it was still the first fish he caught which would always be remembered. Claus walked back to the water and released the fish, knowing that it was too small to actually eat. Claus sighed before his sensitive hearing made him hear something, stomping to be exact. He rushed back and grabbed Link's hand before hiding behind a bush. "What is it?" Link whispered looking at the shore for something.
"I heard stomping." Sure enough, his hearing wasn't misleading him. Bowser walked out of the trees and to the water, looking for something to drink.
"Crap, Bowser. He's so close to our camp."
"What do we do?" Link thought for a moment before looking at Claus.
"He killed half of the people on the cannon shots tonight. He's a menace."
"Fuck. We won't be able to handle him."
"Not at all." The two of them looked back at Bowser. "We may need to bring out drastic measures."
"What are those?" Link was hesitant to tell him, but he knew he needed to.
"Kill him." Claus didn't need to be told otherwise. He knew it was needed to protect himself and his group.
"How? We don't have weapons."
"No, we don't." Link scanned the shore for something they could use as a weapon. He soon found that something. "But we do have water." The two of them looked back at each other with smirks before fist-bumping. "Ok, so here's the plan…."
Bowser was casually drinking some water before deciding he needed to clean himself off. He had blood all over him from his earlier killings. However, when he bent down to clean his face, he felt a force against his shell, right between his spikes. This pushed him forward, tripping and falling face-first into the water. However, before he could get up, big sticks stabbed into his hands and essentially nailed him to the ground. He let out a loud, manly growl. "Who's there!" Bowser yelled. Link walked over to the side of his head and smirked down at him.
"I'm the link to your death," Link said, thinking it was clever. Claus let out a loud and hard sigh. "What? That's funny."
"Just do it already, shit," Claus said from the back of Bowser.
"Do what-" Bowser said before being cut off by Link stepping onto his head and ramming it into the water, depriving him of air. He kept it there, even as Bowser's limbs started flailing and his tail started struggling. He continued doing this, seeing as the bubbles in the water slowly but surely slowed down to a halt. His limbs stopped moving and he was limp. Bowser was gone, just like that.
"He was never a huge fan of water," Link said, looking down at the body. Claus kicked Bowser's tail.
"No wonder he smells."
"Let's go finish fishing before someone finds us again." Claus nodded and the two of them ran off to finish off the fishing.
Back at the camp, Toon Link and Dixie were admiring the stars once again. "I kinda want to set up a trap," Toon Link said.
"What?" Dixie said in confusion.
"I'm worried about this Joker guy. And even that Byleth person you talked about. I kinda want to set up a trap so we wouldn't need to worry too much about them." Dixie closed her eyes and thought for a moment.
"Yeah...maybe that would be good…." She couldn't get the thoughts of all the different deaths out of her head. She was taken from this mindset when she heard Claus yell out. She jumped up onto his shoulders. "How'd it go?"
"Great. We got a great amount of fish." Link was carrying a vast amount of fish, even more than they needed. Dixie smiled. Link walked them and put them down. "We did need to take out Bowser though."
"Are you ok?"
"Yup, it was quick and easy."
"There may be an issue, though," Marth pointed out.
"What do you mean?"
"Bowser was like a head honcho, he was feared and he killed everyone he wanted to kill. Now that he's out it'll act like a mob, people trying to take the "throne" if you will."
"And who's at the throne?" Toon Link asked. Marth looked at Link and Claus.
"They are. And if you want to think about it more, then we are. We're probably one of the biggest groups, we could be seen as a threat so I presume we're going to be targeted more than we already are."
"SWEET!" Everyone looked at Toon Link in confusion. "I get to make my trap!" Toon Link chuckled as he started to already plan his trap.
"For now, let's get to eating. Might as well enjoy the peace while we have it." Everyone nodded and enjoyed their peaceful time, suspecting it wouldn't last for very long. The days further were going to be tough, and they knew it.
Day 7
Toon Link and the others were recovering from their messed-up camp. They all went out to hunt as a group and low and behold when they came back, their camp was destroyed and looted. This only made Toon Link want to set up a trap more, so he started working on a rather strong trap. While they were cleaning, they heard two different voices approaching them. Link and Marth looked at each other before bringing out their swords and looked in the direction of the voices.
Soon enough, they exited from the trees. It was Mario and Dark Pit. Dixie growled as her hands balled up into fists. "Relax," Claus told her.
"What do you want?" Marth asked the two newbies.
"We need your help. We know you guys are like major in the hunger gaming world right now, we need Falco eliminated," Dark Pit said. Dixie ran forward and jumped onto Marth's shoulders.
"I thought Falco was one of you!" She yelled.
"Relax, little Kong. Falco and we had a bit of a falling out. Mainly because the games were starting to get to him and so he was saying how he was going to kill us, so we needed an escape. But it's only a matter of time before he hunts us. We need your skills."
"You, and him," Mario said, pointing at Marth then Claus. Claus walked up with crossed arms.
"Why me?" Claus asked.
"We can tell you have some blood on your hands, we know you wouldn't hesitate to kill if need be." Claus looked at Marth.
"How can we trust them?"
"You can't," Dark Pit started, "But it's either that, or we tell everyone of your location so you get attacked by everyone. You wouldn't want that, would you?" Marth groaned before sheathing his sword.
"Fine, we can help. But one slight misstep and you'll be dead," Marth said.
"I don't trust them…" Dixie said. She was picked up and placed onto the ground.
"It'll be ok, Dixie. Just...Link will be right here in case something happens. We'll be right back." Dixie looked at Dark Pit and gulped, remembering when he used her to ruin her and Byleth's camps.
"Fine…" She walked back over to Toon Link.
"Finally. Let's go," Dark Pit said. He and Mario reentered the trees. Link patted Marth's back before going over to the other two. Marth and Claus exchanged looks before following Dark Pit and Mario.
They walked through the trees and made it back to the waterfall area, this time, Falco was washing his face off. Claus looked at the rest of the group. "What do we do?" Claus whispered.
"We show him it was a mistake to go against us," Dark Pit said with a smirk and as he cracked his knuckles. All four of them exited the trees and walked menacingly toward Falco, and when Falco noticed them, he stepped back.
"Wh-what…" Falco gulped.
"Hello there, birdy. It's nice seeing you again."
"So this is what you two did? Went and got these bastards? I thought we'd be able to handle this as men."
"I don't handle anything with stupid slimy 'friends."
"Ohohoh, I'm slimy? ME! You have to be kidding me. You're the one that tried to betray me! I'm the one that needed retreat."
"Don't trust him. He's been acting differently since the games," Mario told the others. They had experience with people not acting how they should, so they believed him a bit faster than they probably should have.
"Well too bad, little birdie. It was nice whilst it lasted…" Dark Pit said before slamming his fist into Falco's gut and jumped behind him and kicked his rear, pushing Falco forward and a fist-full of Mario's fist. Falco fell down onto his back as he coughed up some blood. Claus stomped onto Flaco's chest, making him spit up some more blood. Mario picked Falco up and allowed Dark Pit and Claus to punch him some more as Marth brought out his sword. Mario tossed Falco up which allowed Marth to slash forward, cutting Falco directly in half. He sheathed the sword and let out a sigh.
"Alright. We're done here now, let's get going, Claus," Marth said. Claus nodded as he rubbed his bruised fists. Before entering the trees, they heard Dark Pit and Mario come up behind them. "What're you two doing?"
"Well, you helped us. We might as well help you guys," Mario said.
"With?"
"Defense. We'll act as bodyguards. Until we're the only ones left, of course," Dark Pit said. Marth and Claus looked at each other before nodding.
"But you guys are walking ahead of us. We're not taking any chances," Claus said, stepping to the side with Marth doing the same. Dark Pit and Mario both agreed to this and led the other two back to the main camp. When they did come back, Dixie was still unwilling to give Dark Pit her trust. She just decided to go along with it all, suspecting Marth had some type of plan.
Night 7
Toon Link took a step back and sighed happily. He was admiring his trap. It was a mix of the classic rope trap and a bear trap. What would happen was if someone stepped in the center of the rope, they would be latched up the tree where a bear trap would clamp into their chest, perfectly in the left side, aiming at the heart. Link walked over and ruffled his hair. "Good job, you did well," Link chuckled. "Good thing for us, Dixie and I got some medical supplies." He tossed the medkit that was given to him down at the tree with Dixie doing the same with her own kit. Toon Link looked at them with a confused face.
"From who?" he asked.
"Not sure, anonymous, I guess," Dixie shrugged. Marth walked over with a fishing rod and Claus in tow.
"I'll be taking Claus fishing," Marth said.
"Hey...is that my fishing rod?" Link asked. Marth looked at it and shrugged. "Oh, and Claus is my fishing buddy!"
"Then just come with, sheesh," Claus said, playing as if he was annoyed but he truly did enjoy the attention he was getting. Link thought for a moment before looking at Dixie and Toon Link.
"You guys good if we're away for a bit?"
"We should be," Toon Link shrugged. "We've still got Mario and Dark Pit circling us, and we can always retreat into a tree if we need to." Link smiled before grabbing the fishing rod from Marth's hands. The three of them walked away to fish. Toon Link sighed. "I hope my trap works."
"It looks like it will," Dixie said as she examined it, but wasn't fully knowledgeable on it so she just assumed it was good.
The two of them walked off and enjoyed their time alone. They were lying down, eating some of the berries they collected, even climbing some trees for fun. However, while Dixie was in the tree, Toon Link heard someone crunching some leaves. He looked up at Dixie with the look they practiced for if they heard someone coming. Dixie stayed hidden in the tree as Toon Link ran near the trap and hid there. Toon Link was able to bait the sound to go in the direction of the trap. He just waited there for some success, hopefully. He closed his eyes, hoping to hear the sound of a win. And….he received that sound.
He jumped from his hiding spot and laughed but the laugh went dry as soon as he saw who it was, it was Dark Pit. He groaned loudly as the bear trap was biting into the left side of Dark Pit's chest. Dark Pit looked at Toon Link. "Y-you traitor...I-I was helping...you...and you did this?" Toon Link started to tremble. He lost all control of his fingers as they shook and jolted. His face was pure shock. His eyes were shaking faster than his fingers. Dixie jumped from the tree and ran over, seeing Dark Pit in the predicament he was in.
"Toon Link…" Dixie said in shock.
"N-no...I didn't….I didn't mean to. I-it….it was an accident…" Dark Pit fell from the now torn rope, which only dug the bear trap deeper into him, making him scream louder.
"FUCK!" he yelled. Toon Link grew tears in his eyes before running off. Dixie was about to follow before Dark Pit called to her. "P-please….help me…" Dixie gulped as she saw him, bleeding profusely. She looked over at the tree and saw the medkits she and Link got. She could help him, she had all of the materials she needed to help him...but she didn't want to help. She looked down at Dark Pit as he cried out for her to help. She didn't budge. She just couldn't. She stared at Dark Pit as his life was being drained out of him. Her body was twitching, her eyes were shaking. Dixie gulped as Dark Pit let out one final cry before falling limp….finally dead. Dixie instantly ran off to find Toon Link.
She found him just shaking behind a tree. "T-TL…?" Toon Link had his hands over his eyes as he rocked back and forth. Dixie crouched down and rubbed his shoulders. "Hey, hey, TL, it's ok…"
"No….I didn't mean it…"
"I know, TL, I know just calm-"
"I didn't mean it….I didn't mean it…" Toon Link continued repeating those words as he rocked back and forth.
"Holy hell!" Dixie heard Claus yell. She ran out of the trees and looked over at them. Claus ran over. "Hey, what happened, you ok?"
"Yeah, I'm ok...but…." Dixie looked over at Toon Link. Claus saw how freaked out he was. He sighed before looking back at Dixie.
"Explain it to Marth and Link for me, please…" Dixie nodded before running toward them, leaving Claus with Toon Link. He walked over and crouched at his side. "Hey, how are you holding up?"
"I didn't mean it….I didn't…"
"Yeah yeah yeah, been there, done that," Claus said as he fully sat down. Toon Link moved his hands and looked at Claus.
"H-how'd you get over attacking L-Lucas like you did? H-how'd you get over….y-you know…."
"Being the Masked Man?" Toon Link slowly nodded his head. Claus sighed before resting his head against the tree, closing his eyes, and remembering. "I never did." Toon Link looked down. "But I don't want to."
"Wh-what?"
"Being the Masked Man was terrible. The worst time of my entire damn life. But it's just that, it's still my life. A person is defined, not by the good they do, but by how they improve. How they use the bad in their life to make new meaning for them. Instead of trying to deny my past, trying to hide it beneath a wave of denial, I use it. I use it to fuel myself. Because whether I like it or not, I am the Masked Man, and the Masked Man is me. That's just how it is. That's how it always will be. And I wouldn't change it, because I wouldn't be the person I am today if I didn't go through that. And mom would be proud of me because of that." Toon Link smirked as he rubbed his hands together. He took in a deep breath before standing up.
"Thanks, Claus. Lucas is lucky to have you as his brother." Claus stood up with his own smile.
"Better be." The two of them left from behind the tree and walked over to Dark Pit's body. Toon Link gulped before looking at Marth and Toon Link.
"I….I'm sorry. I thought he was someone else…" Marth slowly shook his head.
"No. It's ok. I didn't trust him much anyway," Marth said, with Link nodding his head, agreeing.
"What do we do about Mario?" Claus asked. Link sighed.
"We can't tell him. We just hide the body and make it seem like someone else killed him, we can't have Mario blurting out our location," Link answered. Toon Link couldn't rip his eyes from Dark Pit's body. But he wasn't alone, Dixie couldn't do it either. A death they both could have prevented, a death they both caused, a death that...deep down, they wanted.
The Feast/Day 8
The Feast was when the Cornucopia was refilled. This was dangerous. While if you did go you'll find plenty of food and weapons and many things of the such, you could also expect to find many other people going there. It wasn't to be taken lightly.
Joker formed a small group. It was him, Byleth, Mega Man, and Ganondorf. All of them had dark evil blue eyes. Joker looked around at the group. "Link and the others will likely send some back to the Cornucopia. A group like them needs supplies, and so we're going to ruin it," Joker said.
"But if we all go there, it's possible they could use explosives to kill us," Byleth said as a possibility. Joker rubbed his chin as he thought it over. Explosives would definitely be at the Cornucopia.
"Alright, you and Ganondorf stay. We need someone smart and strong just in case Mega Man and I perish. Sounds good?" The others nodded their heads. Joker looked at Mega Man. "We're going. But be aware, we could die. Are you willing to die?" Mega Man stood up straight.
"Of course I am," he said. Joker smirked and turned toward the direction of the Cornucopia.
"I thought so."
"I dunno if this is a good idea…" Dixie said as she was meeting with her group.
"We need to, they have things we need. Weapons, food, camping supplies, we need them," Mario told the others, having been invited to the team meetings for the day. Marth and Link, as the honorary leaders of the group, looked at each other, thinking over if going was a good idea.
"Can I go?" Toon Link asked. Everyone's eyes went to him.
"What?" Marth asked.
"Can I go? I want to get the stuff we need."
"It's too dangerous for you to go out alone," Link said.
"Then I won't be alone, someone will come with me. But either way, I am going. Alone or not." There was a strange mix of determination and sadness in Toon Link's eyes. Marth sighed.
"Fine, Dixie, Claus, and Mario, can you guys go with him? Link and I will hold down the fort and make sure no one comes and ruins it," Marth asked. The people he asked nodded their heads, with Dixie climbing onto Toon Link's shoulders. Mario looked back at the trees with a slightly worried look on his face.
"I just hope Dark Pit is ok…" Mario said with a slightly concerned face. Link patted his back. Mario nodded his head before standing up straight. "Alright, follow me, I'll get us to Cornucopia.
They were there, the Cornucopia. It was filled to the brim with supplies. However, Toon Link's team stayed in the bushes, scared to take the first steps there. Toon Link looked back at the group, with Dixie still on his head. "Alright, wish us luck. We're going inside. You two take the stuff on the outside," Toon Link said, with Claus and Mario nodding in turn. Toon Link stood up and stepped out of the bushes before bolting toward the center. Dixie looked around for anyone, before finding two people leaving the bushes.
"TL! It's Joker!" Toon Link looked over and saw Joker and Mega Man running at full speed toward them.
"Crap!" it was obvious that Joker was going to make it to the center before Toon Link, so they would surely get into a fight. He ran at full speed and sure enough, Joker made it to the center before Toon Link. He waited right at the front for the blond boy. Toon Link ran in, and Dixie jumped off to land right on top of Mega Man as Toon Link brought out his sword and protected himself from a punch with it.
While that was going down, Claus looked at Mario. "Should we go now?" Claus asked.
"We need to wait, they can't find us no-" Mario was cut off by a loud snap from behind them. They turned their heads and found Donkey Kong, still with a large scar over his chest from his MUCH earlier fight with Link. He growled before punching both of them out of the bushes and into the plain area of the Cornucopia. He jumped out from the bushes and stared at the two. "DK! Hold off, we're not here to fight."
"QUIET!" Donkey Kong yelled. Mario's eyes located the scar.
"What happened?"
"Your ally, Link, did this to me! I was just looking for Diddy's killers…" Donkey Kong shook his head before slamming his palms into the ground and running forward. Claus and Mario jumped aside and Claus ran in to kick Donkey Kong's back. Donkey Kong recovered and looked at Mario. "Why are you even allying with them?"
"Dark Pit and I made a promise, and I intend to make due on that promise," Mario said before running in to uppercut Donkey Kong, but he wasn't strong enough to launch the ape, so Donkey Kong was able to slam his head into Mario's chest, launching him. Claus tried running in for an attack, but Donkey Kong slapped him with the back of his palm.
"Dark Pit is dead!" Donkey Kong yelled at Mario. Mario stood up with disbelief.
"What?"
"I saw his body."
"SHUT UP!" Claus yelled as he ran in and slammed into Donkey Kong, pushing him forward, and allowing for him to do another kick to the back. Donkey Kong wasn't letting up though. "Your 'friends' killed him! They betrayed you! They are not good friends!" Mario absorbed all of this in. He, of course, trusted Donkey Kong's words. They were friends, he had no reason to not believe him. Mario looked at Claus.
"Is this true?" Claus was hesitant to tell him, but he couldn't keep it a secret. He sighed.
"Y-yes…" Mario instantly yelled before running forward and slamming a fist into the side of Claus's head.
"You traitor! I trusted you. We trusted you. And you go out of your way to kill him? Monster!" Claus stood up and wiped the blood from his lips. He looked over at Mario and saw Donkey Kong stand next to him. He gulped. What have I got myself into? He ran in to try and attack, but Mario simply kicked him in the chest pushing him back. He knew this was going to be a losing game if he didn't tap into his past and use that. He closed his eyes and let out a deep and calm breath. Donkey Kong ran forward toward the motionless boy. Claus flinched a bit as his memory went back to when he was under Porky's control, but he knew it was necessary. Donkey Kong got closer and closer, and once he was close enough for an attack, Claus swiped at his feet, causing him to trip. He jumped onto Donkey Kong's chest before running forward toward Mario, his eyes still closed. Mario tried to throw a few punches, but Claus simply blocked them before ramming his shoulder into Mario's chest then headbutting him down. Claus finally opened his eyes and looked down at him. "A plumber has nothing against a general." Claus stepped onto Mario's neck before looking at Donkey Kong. He continued staring at him as he snapped Mario's neck with his foot. Donkey Kong looked at the dead body before running away. "Man, for his size, he's a chicken…."
Toon Link was launched into the cornucopia, where loads of crates and supplies were. Joker walked in and chuckled. "Come on, at least make it a bit of a fight." Dixie was soon launched into it as well, landing right next to Toon Link. Toon Link looked around sporadically and found some explosives and a detonator. He grabbed them, tossing the detonator toward Dixie. They gave a single look and both knew the plan, but Dixie didn't know the full plan. Toon Link grabbed Dixie before running toward Joker and Mega Man. Toon Link's determined face grew as he tossed Dixie toward them, she flew right between the two and out of the cornucopia but remained close enough to see inside it. She stood up holding the detonator. Toon Link wrapped his arms around Joker and Mega Man, getting his gut and chest and back punched in the process, but his grip on them didn't let up. Dixie finally saw the full plan. Toon Link had explosives strapped to his chest.
"DO IT!"
"I-I don't know…."
"JUST DO IT! It's for the others, we need to!" Dixie looked down at the detonator and gulped. "NOW" Dixie looked back at Toon Link and her eyes started tearing up.
"I-I can't. Y-you're my friend."
"THEN DO IT! We're friends, we'll always be friends. So detonate the damn explosive! We'll meet again on the other side of the stars." Dixie let out a few tears before closing her eyes and detonating it. There was a large explosion, killing the three of them. Dixie fell down to her knees as she saw Toon Link's body.
"TL…." Claus ran over in response to the explosion and saw Dixie in a broken mess. He looked over and saw Toon Link's body. "H-he told me to...h-he wanted it…" Claus took in a deep breath before letting it out.
"It's ok….get supplies…" Dixie nodded her head before standing up. The two of them separated and gathered supplies. Dixie, however, couldn't help but feel guilty. Not just because she killed Toon Link, but also because she never told him what happened to Red. She didn't want the same thing to happen to Claus. She needed to tell him.
They got back to the camp, with Link and Marth noticing the lack of Mario and Toon Link and the somber faces they were holding. "What happened?" Marth asked as he ran in and put a hand on Claus's shoulder. Claus looked over at Dixie.
"W-we were attacked. By Joker….T-Toon Link sacrificed himself."
"And Mario found out about Dark Pit," Claus finished. Link walked over and hugged both Dixie and Claus.
"At least you're ok." Dixie let out a sigh.
"But Red isn't…" she said. Claus's eyes widened. He broke the hug up and looked at Dixie.
"What do you mean?" Claus asked. Link and Marth grew worried.
"I saw his dead body….back when they told us he left…" Claus looked over at Link and Marth.
"Is this true?" Link and Marth looked at each other before gulping. Link looked back at Claus.
"Yes, Marth and I found him dead…"
"Why didn't you tell us?!" Link gulped again.
"We just couldn't….we needed to keep it a secret."
"YOU BASTARD! He was a friend, he was one of us, and you didn't tell me? Tell TL? Now he's gone without knowing the damn truth!"
"I'm...sorry." Claus's eyes started twitching. He grabbed one of the weapons he took from the Cornucopia.
"I can't believe you. I trusted you, we trusted you, and you lied!" Claus's eyes started turning to that dark evil blue color.
"Claus, please, calm down."
"Don't you fucking dare tell me to calm down, you two-timing fucker!" Claus ran forward and slashed at Link's chest, getting a very good gash in. Link fell back. Claus looked over at Marth, who had his hand on the hilt. "Don't you think I forgot about you." Claus ran in, but Marth let go of the hilt of the sword and just stood there as Claus repeatedly slashed at him. However, the slashes weren't as damaging as the one Link received, which killed him instantly. Marth fell back. Claus stood there, panting as if he was a hungry dog
"Claus…" Dixie said softly. Claus looked at her. His panting died down and soon enough the blue disappeared. He dropped the sword and looked back at Link.
"Dammit...it happened again." Claus gritted his teeth. Dixie walked over and hopped onto Claus's shoulder.
"Can we just go?" Claus glared at the sword he used and sighed.
"Yes…." Claus walked off, ashamed he let his emotions get the better of him for a second time during the games.
Night 9
During one of the cannon shots, Claus and Dixie found out that Marth didn't die because of the slashes, so they wanted to go out and find him. However, looking where they left him, he was no longer there. "He can't have gone too far," Claus said.
"Why are we even going to find him?" Dixie asked. Claus looked down.
"I need to apologize to him." Dixie smiled at Claus's tenacity. She climbed up onto his shoulders again as they walked off. They walked around the various places they have been to before. Still no Marth. They looked nonstop until they made it to the beach that Marth's group first was at. Sure enough, Marth was right there, lying dead. Claus ran over and checked his pulse, sure enough, he was actually dead. "Dammit, must've died from them anyway…" Claus stood up. "I should've expected that." Dixie jumped off of his shoulders to look at Marth.
"Things really turned bad.." Dixie said.
"That's an understatement," A deep voice said from behind them. Before Claus could turn around, however, he and Dixie were knocked out.
He opened his eyes to find himself tied to a tree. He looked around and found Dixie to also be tied to a tree. "Finally awake, huh?" Claus looked ahead of him and found Ganondorf coming closer. He looked behind Ganondorf and found some other people there, Roll, Byleth, and Lucario. Ganondorf stood right in front of Claus with an evil smirk on his face. "Finally, I have you in my grasp."
"What do you want…" Claus grumbled as he struggled at his bonds.
"What do you think? I want to win." Claus stared into Ganondorf's evil dark blue eyes. He looked over at the others and found that they too had those eyes. There was some ruffling in the trees, causing Canondorf to bring out a battleax. The noise revealed itself to have been Donkey Kong. He saw the scene and froze.
"Uh….must've taken a wrong turn…" Donkey Kong said before trying to turn around, but Ganondorf's battleax was thrown into Donkey Kong's back, making him scream in pain. Ganondorf walked over to him and chuckled.
"A wrong turn indeed, Kong." He took the battleax out of his back before chopping off his head. He walked over and looked at the boy. "Now then, where was I? Oh right, I'll be keeping you here. I want to kill you two last…" Ganondorf chuckled louder as he walked back over to his group. While he was walking back, Dixie opened her eyes, having faked being still knocked out so she could eavesdrop. Claus looked over at her.
"Oh good, you're ok."
"Yeah, but nevermind that." Dixie bought out a detonator. "You still have the bombs?" Claus nodded his head before pointing down to his pockets. "Ok, attach them to one of them and I'll detonate."
"Are you sure? You still don't-"
"Forget about that, we need to win…" Dixie's eyes shook a bit, but Claus nodded his head nonetheless. Claus looked at the group, who were talking amongst themselves.
"HEY!" Claus yelled at them, but only got a thrown battleax just above his head.
"SHUT UP! Speak only when spoken to!" Ganondorf yelled. Claus's eyes were on the battleax as he gulped. He looked over at Dixie.
"W-we just need to wait then." Dixie just nodded her head quickly, not wanting her or Claus to be killed by that painful-looking ax.
Day 10
Claus and Dixie were awake all night as they waited for their chance to attach the bombs. It seemed like that chance was coming. Roll received some clean water from some sponsors. Claus watched as the group drank the water, fully knowing that both Claus and Dixie didn't have that privilege. Their mouths were even getting a bit dry. Ganondorf chuckled before turning toward his group. They talked for a bit before Byleth finally held a canteen of water and was walking over toward them. He stopped in front of Claus and chuckled. "Where's your savior now?" he cackled before dropping down the canteen, but while this happened, Claus was able to throw the bombs onto his leg.
Byleth stepped aside to let Ganondorf talk to Claus. "Clausey boy. I decided to be nice, and allow you to have a nice drink. But I'm watching you, make one wrong move…" Ganondorf took the battleax from the tree and pointed it at Dixie. "And the monkey gets it." Claus stared into Ganondorf's eyes as he gulped.
"I won't do anything…"
"Good." Ganondorf united Claus. "Now drink up, before it's too late." Claus took hold of the canteen and raised it to his mouth. He felt the cool water hit his tongue, prompting him to look at Dixie. She knew this look. She watched the group as Byleth returned to them. She brought out the detonator and pressed it, causing a large explosion. Ganondorf looked back. "NO!" Claus kicked Ganondorf's groin before bringing out a dagger and slashing at his cheek. He kicked Ganondorf down and cut Dixie out, grabbing her and running off. Ganondorf stood up, growling. He heard some coughing behind him, and when he turned, he found Roll. "ROLL! Get over here!" She ran over soot all over her. Ganondorf watched as Claus and Dixie ran off. "Did you put it in?"
"Yes, they won't be running for very long," Roll said.
"Good. Now let's go."
Claus and Dixie continued running through the forest and soon made it to a cliff. However, Claus dropped Dixie and fell to his hands and knees as he was coughing. "Claus? What is it?" Claus continued coughing, soon enough, spitting out blood.
"T-that bastard...p-poisoned the water!" Claus continued coughing, more violently this time. He reached into his pocket and handed Dixie the dagger. "Aim….for the heart. Upper….l-left side of the chest.." Claus rolled onto his back, pointing at his heart. "I-it should kill him…" Claus stared at the sky and chuckled before going into a very violent cough, knowing it was almost time for him to go. "I'll see you on the other side...Salsa…" Claus chuckled some more before one final very violent cough caused him to go limp.
Dixie stared at the body. "Claus...no…" She looked down at the dagger as she held it tightly in her hands. "Everyone….they're all dead. If I didn't….If I wasn't so easy….they'd still be alive." Her grip on the dagger tightened. She stood up, the twitching in her eyes grew. "I'll make up for it." Her head started twitching as she thought over the whole experience. "I went through hell...I'm going to kill that fucker." Her eyes finally turned into a deep evil blue right as there was an explosion nearby. Dixie chuckled. "Looks like this will be a one-on-one." She turned toward the forest. "Come at me, bitch."
Night 10
She waited there, and soon enough, started hearing the crunching of leaves and breaking of sticks. She could tell by the sound of the footsteps, the heaviness, and the strength, that she would be facing Ganondorf. Normally she wouldn't stand a chance, but neither of them had their full capabilities. And that hurt Ganondorf more than it hurt Dixie. She wasn't scared. She wasn't sad. She was only angry. She was bloodthirsty. She wanted revenge. She wanted to kill.
Ganondorf left the forest and met face-to-face with Dixie. They stared at each other. "Well well well, I wonder what happened to poor Clausey."
"Don't play dumb, asshole!"
"Oh? Bringing out the strong words now?" Dixie growled before running in. Ganondorf was able to simply kick her away. However, she wasn't in any pain. She didn't feel it. She was too bloodthirsty to feel anything. She ran back in but this time dodged the kick but was struck by a punch. She retreated as she analyzed the best way to go about the situation. Ganondorf was slow, all she needed to do was read the movements, dodge, and strike.
Dixie smirked before running forward, dodging both his foot and fist by jumping over him and landing on one of the trees behind Ganondorf, but because of how slow Ganondorf was, he wasn't able to react in time as she propelled off of the tree and slammed her feet into his head. This brought him down, allowing Dixie to repeatedly stab Ganondorf's back. He grabbed her hair and slammed her against the ground, but she simply kicked his head to let her go. She wiped her bloody nose. Ganondorf stood up and stomped on the ground.
"You got lucky!" He tried to kick forward, but she jumped onto the leg and stabbed his left-upmost chest. She jumped away before allowing Ganondorf to grab her again. She giggled.
"I don't seem lucky. Just angry." Dixie then threw the dagger, stabbing deeper into Ganondorf's left-upmost chest, right into his heart. Ganondorf coughed up some blood.
"Damn…" Ganondorf fell down onto his face. Dixie looked up into the sky and into the stars. She closed her eyes and let out a loud groan.
"WE HAVE A WINNER! DIXIE KONG FROM DISTRICT 11!" Master Hand's voice echoed throughout the simulated world.
Real-world
Dixie woke up in a room with the straps on her head. She was approached by Dr. Mario, who took the straps off. "Congrats," he said with a smile. Ganondorf was right next to her, causing her to jump and fall off the bed. She peeked over the bed to look at him. He had a smile.
"Congrats, Little Kong. You put up one hell of a fight," he got off the bed and walked over to her, extending his hand out. She stood up and took the hand, shaking it. He then walked out of the room, and Dixie could hear the noise of applause from the open door. She stared at the door.
"A-are people out there?"
"Yup. To celebrate your win," Dr. Mario said. He patted her back. "Go on out there." Dixie gulped before walking toward the door. She let out a sigh before opening the door and the applause erupted. The first person she saw was none other than Claus. She grew a wide smile before running over and jumping into a hug with him.
"Congrats, Salsa," Claus said, seemingly keeping the nickname. Dixie giggled.
"Thanks." She jumped onto Claus's shoulders and looked down the red carpet which led up to a pedestal, where ROB and Master Hand were. Her eyes were gleaming with joy and excitement.
"Go on. I need to apologize to Marth and Link." Dixie nodded before jumping off and continuing the walk down the red carpet. Claus entered the crowd, looking around, first finding Lucas, Ness, and Ninten. Lucas and Ninten brought him into a big hug.
"You made it so far!" Ninten happily said. Claus nervously chuckled as he grew a blush.
"Congrats, bro," Lucas said, slapping his back.
"All of you sucked," Claus bluntly said, "Especially you, Ness." Ness crossed his arms with a huff.
"Wasn't my fault, damn." Claus finally did see Marth and Link.
"Uh, wait right here." He walked over to the two and had his head held low. "H-hi you two...Uhm, sorry. I lost my emotions." Link simply chuckled before patting the top of Claus's head.
"No worries, Claus. We're all fine, you're good," Link brightly said. Claus looked at Marth, who had a sincere smile on his face as he nodded. Before he could say anything else though, Master Hand tapped on the microphone. Everyone looked up there and saw Dixie standing next to Master Hand.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, Dixie Kong, the winner of the Super Smash Brothers Hunger Games!" Everyone cheered for her, especially the friends she made during the games and Donkey and Diddy Kong. ROB rolled over to her with her trophy in his robotic hands. It had a Mockingjay at the top of the typical golden tower. The trophy wasn't too big, but compared to Dixie, it was still rather large. She grew a wide smile as Master Hand picked her up and she held the trophy high into the hair. The winner of the first-ever Super Smash Brothers Hunger Games. However, something Master Hand and ROB didn't tell them was that there was one big thing they erased from their memory when they came back, the evil blue eyes. No one, outside of Dr. Mario, ROB, and Master Hand knew of it. And they didn't even know about them. They needed to research, but all they cared about at the moment was celebrating Dixie's success…...maybe she'd even get into the mansion.
