"Here," Steph said as she handed Junior a piece of paper. "It's my address. When you get there, you'll need to call me so I can buzz you in the front gate."
Junior looked at the paper and smiled, "I get to see where you live?"
"Of course. I was actually thinking of just ordering in tonight so I can be relaxed for the distraction."
"How does 6:30 sound?" Junior asked as he put the paper in his wallet.
"Sounds good," Steph looked at the clock on the wall, "Well, it's four now, so I'm going to take off, go home, get a shower, and figure out my outfit for tonight. See you around 6:30?"
Junior stepped into her space, lifted her chin with his finger, and lowered his lips to hers, "I'll be there, Sunshine."
At 6:30 on the dot, Stephanie's phone rang. When she looked at it, she knew it was the number for the front gate box. "Hello," she said.
"It's me, Sunshine."
She pressed the pound key on her phone and heard the gate open. "Come through the gate and it's the first left and second right. I'm the house straight ahead at the end of the street."
A few minutes later, she heard the doorbell. Opening the door, she saw Junior standing there in faded blue jeans and a long sleeve white button-down shirt. He had the sleeves rolled up to his elbows and the top two buttons undone.
Stephanie stepped aside, allowed him to enter and stared at his chest. "Nice place," Junior said as he kissed her lips gently.
"Thanks," she replied as she shut the door. "When I signed on at Rangeman, I used my signing bonus as a down payment on the house. I was tired of the stalkers knowing where I lived and tired of the bombs. I asked Tank, Lester, and Ranger to help me find a house and they all agreed a gated community was probably best for me."
Junior hadn't heard of what she was talking about and was shocked she said stalkers and bombs, "What are you talking about? You've had stalkers and people bombing your place?"
Laughing, she opened a drawer in the kitchen island and pulled out a small binder. "I'll tell you all about it after you pick the food. Look through this and see what looks good and we will order and then talk."
Junior opened the binder and saw it was filled with takeout menus. Deciding on Indian, Junior asked Stephanie what she wanted and called the order in for delivery.
As they sat on the couch, Stephanie looked at Junior, "Clinton, I want to thank you for agreeing to come to Trenton tonight for the distraction. I wasn't sure how I'd feel about a Boston guy being here since I don't know them very well. But I feel I can trust you and know you'll help me stay safe."
"I'm glad I was the one asked and said yes." Pulling Stephanie onto his lap, he wrapped his arms around her, "Tell me about the last two years. I want to know it all. What's going on with you and Lester?"
"There is nothing between Les and me. He is my best friend, biggest supporter, and partner when I go in the field."
"Okay, is there anyone else I need to worry about?"
Stephanie kissed his lip softly and smiled, "No one. If there were, I wouldn't be kissing you." Looking down at Juniors left arm, she traced his tattoo, "What about you? Anyone I need to be worried about?"
"No, Sunshine. There is no one. So, what did you mean about stalkers?"
Taking a deep breath, Stephanie began telling Clinton about all her stalkers, how she'd been kidnapped, and how her cars and apartment had been firebombed. She felt his grip around her get tighter with each encounter. She turned to straddle his lap and took his face in her hands, "But that all pretty much stopped when I took the fulltime job at Rangeman and moved in here."
Just as Junior was about to kiss her, her phone rang. "Hello?...okay, come on in," she said and the pressed the pound key on her phone again. "Food is here."
After the two ate, they sat on the couch catching each other up on their lives, both before their night in Jamaica and since. Stephanie found out that Junior had been looking for a job when a buddy of his recommended Rangeman Boston. Junior applied for the job and was hired immediately.
As they sat there talking with Stephanie seated between Junior's legs, his finger trailed up an down her arms. She was loving the feeling of having him in her home and knew that if she allowed herself to, she could easily fall for him. She already knew they were good in bed together. No one had ever made her feel the way Clinton did during their one night and morning together.
Turning around to face him, she saw the love and lust in his eyes and was sure the same was reflected in hers. "Steph, Sunshine...I am falling for you all over again."
"Again?" she whispered.
"Yes, again. I know we said only one night two years ago. However, I fell hard for you that night. Something happened between us, and I've never been the same. I tried to move on and forget that night and have a relationship, but something has always been missing. I know what it was." He lifted her face so he could look in her eyes, "It was you. You found a way into my soul in less than twenty-four hours, and you've stayed there since."
She began unbuttoning his shirt when he reached up and held her hands in his. "Sunshine, I don't want another one night with you."
"But, you just said..."
Junior placed his fingers on her lips, "Shh, I don't want a one-night stand with you again. I want it all with you. I want to see where a relationship with you will go."
Just as she was about to answer him, her phone rang again. "Ahhhh," she screamed and picked it up, "Hello?"
"Distraction is off, Beautiful," Junior heard Les say.
"Why?"
Les sighed before answering, "Well, seems like Paul was in too much of a hurry and decided to try kidnapping a girl down on Stark Street. Only the girl he tried to kidnap wasn't having it. He didn't realize she carried."
"Oh shit, she shot him?" Stephanie asked.
"Oh she shot him alright. Shot and killed him."
Stephanie sucked in a breath and slowly let it out, "Damn. Is she going to be in trouble?"
"I don't know. We haven't heard anything from TPD. Can you let Junior know that the distraction is off? I assume he's with you."
"Yeah, I'm here," Junior replied. "Is there anything you guys need from us tonight?"
"No, we're good." Les stated. "Have a good night and, Steph?"
"Yeah?"
"Don't do anything I would do," Les laughed as he hung up.
