Are you my mom?

"I- uh I'm." Korra stammered. "I-" she took a sigh. "No Dakota I'm not your mother. Me and your mom are just old friends." She said rubbing the back of her neck.

"Hmm," Dakota said looking forward. He was about to speak again when he heard his mom call his name. Asami came around the corner eyeing Dakota and Korra. Her face showed concern but smoothed out when she saw Korra mouthed "Don't worry."

"Come on sweetie," Asami said waving Dakota over. "Tell Ms. Korra bye." Dakota got up and walked to his mom.

"Bye Korra."

"Bye, kid." She said smiling at him. She waved at Kato and he returned a big smile. She looked up at Asami with a kind of half-smile. "Bye 'Sami." She said

"Bye Korra," Asami said back and turned to walk away. Dakota turned to look back at Korra as they walked away. "Hmm," He thought to himself. She waved them off for a final time and turned to walk back around the island. She came upon her favorite spot, the cliff overlooking the water and Republic City. She sat down and just stared, looking across the vast body of water. "Feels good to be back." She said leaning back. She let the slight breeze ruffle her hair and caress her face. She closed her eyes and felt a warm feeling come over her. "I've been running for so long but, I'm here now Asami. I'll never leave you again." Soft footsteps came walking behind her. "Tenzin, I know it's you." She said eyes still closed.

"Ahh, so all those lessons I taught you, paid off. Who would have thought?" He said amused. She laughed him off as he sat down next to her dangling his legs over the edge. "So, a lot has happened over the last few days, huh?" He asked looking over to her.

"Yeah, it has, just a lot to take in after 10 years of not knowing, ha-ha." She said laughing half-heartedly.

"Yeah," Tenzin said pausing to stroke his beard. "Well, everything is meant to be when it is meant to be."

"Ughhh, is this another proverb Tenzin." She said leaning her head back.

He laughed. "No this is a life lesson Korra. You've been running and somehow your finish line led you back to where you began. And now it is your chance to correct your past."

"I know, I know but, Asami doesn't want to let them know that I am their mother and it's hard trying to be patient." She said bringing her knees to her chest.

"Well, think of the patience Asami may have had to learn for over the last 10 years and the sacrifices she's had to make. Granted, she did lie to you, but you have to understand how hard it was for both of you at the time."

"Yeah, I know, I was young and stupid, and I missed out on what could have been the best years of my life. I have two beautiful boys that don't even know I'm their mom." Korra said eyes watering.

"That's the beautiful thing about life Korra, you have more than enough years left to make them great with your sons. Fate has brought you back to your sons and your lover. Soon you all will be a family." Tenzin said wrapping his arm around Korra's shoulder.

"You think so Tenzin," Korra said looking up at him.

"I know so," He said pulling back. Tenzin kissed Korra on the forehead and got up, he dusted his robe off and extended his hand. Korra grabbed it and hauled herself up. They walked back to the dining hall where Mako and Bolin were still waiting. Well, Mako was waiting, Bolin was scarfing down the last of Pema's desserts.

"Hey, guys you ready? Yall still have a two-hour drive back to finish packing." Korra said walking up next to Mako.

"Yeah. Just give me a second." Bolin said with his mouth full of food. Mako scooted his chair out and got up.

"Yeah its getting a little late. Come on Bo. Thanks, Tenzin and Pema." Mako said. Bolin finally got up and all three gave Tenzin and Pema hugs before the left. Once they got to the pier, Korra rested on the ledge.

"I saw you and Dakota talking, how'd that go?" Bolin said leaning over Mako.

"Well, I think he may know that I'm his mom."

"Oh shit, really?" Mako asked. She nodded her head.

"Mmhm." She turned around and leaned her back against the handrail. "I lied and said I was just an old friend."

"Why'd you lie?" Mako said in confusion.

"Well Asami wants to wait, she says I've only been back for a few days and it's too soon to try and make up for the last 10 years. She doesn't trust me not to leave again and she doesn't want the boys to get hurt in the process."

"Well that's understandable," Mako said patting Korra on the shoulder. "Just give her time. You're just gonna have to earn them and her back."

"Yeah, Kor its fate," Bo said giving a big grin.

Korra laughed. "Are you sure you aren't Kato's dad? Y'all both give off that big goofy grin."

"Right!" Mako agreed and pointed at Korra. They all shared a laugh and began to walk up to the ferry when it pulled in.

Once back in Republic City they all got into the car and drove back to the Hotel. "So, what are you going to do to get back in their lives?" Mako said while turning on his left turn signal.

"What do you mean, just gotta wait like Sami said," Korra said leaning her head back on the head-rest. Bolin popped his head up from the back seat.

"Wait, what do you mean wait? Do you want your kids back or no?" Bolin said. "Do we need to scheme up another plan to get them back like you did to get Asami".

"Nah Bo, we're not kids anymore, I might actually have to learn some patience for this one," Korra said leaning over her seat to look back at Bolin.

"Ehh, I don't know Korra maybe Bo has a point. Yeah, I get you gotta play the waiting game but that doesn't mean you just can't see them. I mean don't pop up by their house but maybe let Asami know you're available to help or to pick them up after school." Mako said

"Yeah like an extra set of hands," Bolin said jumping in.

"Hmm, that's not a bad idea, guys," Korra said. "I can kinda be in their lives and earn Asami's trust without moving super-fast."

"True, true," Mako said pulling up to the curb of the hotel. "Alright we'll probably be back tomorrow afternoon, we've already paid for the hotel for a week or two in advance but find some good stuff for us tomorrow. Maybe a big house we all can share or an apartment complex we all can have apartments in." Mako said

"Gotcha," Korra said unbuckling her seatbelt and stepping out the car. "You guys be safe okay, let me know when yall get there."

"Say less, bye Kor!" Bolin said sliding into the front seat. She closed the door and waved them off. She walked back into the hotel and rode the elevator to her floor. Once in the room she plopped down on her bed and took a breath. "God today's been a day." She picked up the remote and turned the T.V on thinking of ways to ask Asami if she could help with Dakota and Kato.

Asami opened the door and turned on the lights to the kitchen. "Alright guys, brush your teeth and get settled down you have school tomorrow." She said putting her keys down.

"Ugh, already?' Kato said throwing his head back.

"Yess, already," Asami said mocking him. "Now go on and brush your teeth and Dakota make sure he brushes everyone."

"Yes, Ma'am," Dakota said. "Come on Kato's then we can play video games."

"Yes! I'm gonna beat you this time." He said running to the bathroom.

Dakota rolled his eyes. "Yeah, okay." He started to walk out of the kitchen when his mom stopped him.

"Kota, what were you and Korra talking about?" Asami said.

"Nothing much." He said shaking his head.

"Okay," Asami said. Dakota left the kitchen and found Kato in the bathroom.

Asami fixed her a glass of water and walked to her bedroom. She sat on her bed and took a sip and turned her T.V. on.

*Ding*

She looked down and saw that her phone it up. She picked it up and it read Maybe: "Korra"

Text message: "Hey, not sure if you still have the same phone number but if you do, I wanted to say if you need any help at all with the boys I'm here to help. Also, I know the boys are gonna be in school tomorrow, and if you're free do you want to come apartment looking with me?"

Before she could respond it dinged again,

Text Message: "Maybe Korra": Well only if you want to come, you don't have to if you want. Ha-ha."

Asami wasn't sure how to respond, "Maybe having Korra help out a little won't be so bad." She thought. She started to reply.

"Stupid, stupid, stupid," Korra said out loud chastising herself after sending Asami her text. "That's probably not even the same number. And apartment looking what kinda shit is tha-"

*Ding*

She stopped all movement and thoughts. She grabbed her phone quickly.

Text Message: Asami: "Um there may be a few things you could help out with but I'll you know and for the apartment looking tomorrow let me check if I'm free but don't bet on it lol."

Korra let out a sigh of relief. "Two maybes, they weren't 'no's', so this is good, this is good." She said out loud. A smile crept over her face. "This is the only beginning." She responded back to Asami's text: "Ok cool, just let me know."

LOK

"Ok, just let me know."

Asami smiled, but it quickly left when she thought "Don't be so quick to give in she still has to earn your trust and the boys. But didn't you give up the goods just last night?" She thought. "I know, but that was just a one-night thing. She's gonna have to earn everything back."
