"A fight?!"

"Uh-hm, yes ma'am, the Principle replied back.

" What happened? Principle Umi are you sure, there may be some mistake? I-I mean I could understand that if it was Kato but Dakota? A-are you sure? She said leaning into the phone, eyes in disbelief.

'Y-yes ma'am I assure it was Dakota." principal Umi said placing his free hand down at his desk. "The supervising teacher said that Dakota went up to a group of boys to talk and they began laughing at him and pushing him. She said she saw Kato running up to them but before he could reach Dakota, Dakota had already knocked the other boy down."

Asami wasn't sure what could have come over her usually calm and nonchalant son but she was at a loss for words. "Sir, was the teacher told what the other boy had said to my son?"

"No ma'am she was not told, but your son is right here if you'd like to have a word with him." Principal Umi said looking up across his desk at Dakota who had his elbow rested on the chair arm and his chin laid on his fist looking off into space.

"Yes I'd like a word with him." Asami said pacing back and forth with her hand on her forehead

"Son." Principal Umi said motioning Dakota over to the phone. He pushed up from the chair and walked over to Principal Umi and grabbed the phone. Asami heard the phone shuffling over and a change of breath.

"Mom" Asami heard his little voice connect through the phone.

"Dakota what happened why would you get into a fight sweetheart? You remember what we talked about today, right?" Asami said, leaning on the edge of the kitchen island.

"Yeah mom, I remember that's what I was trying to do. I went up to some of the people Kato hangs out with and I tried to talk to them."

"Well what did they say to you?" Asami responded back.

(20 minutes earlier)

*'BLIRINNGGGG*

"Ah okay kids it's time for recess please line up and we'll make our way outside." said. Everyone excitedly got up and began running to the door to line up. Dakota was the last one up and got at the end of the line. The line began to leave the classroom and when Dakota passed by he stopped to look up at him.

"Uncle Bumi, can I stay in here with you again." Kato asked. Bumi sighed and put his hand on Dakota's shoulder and knelt down.

"Listen Kota, I can't keep letting you stay in here man. I haven't seen you be social with anyone here. I know you like to be to yourself but having a couple of friends isn't so bad. Tell you what, go up to someone today at recess and join in on the fun. Then this weekend we can go to the skatepark and I can teach you how to do some more tricks."

Dakota's eyes lit up."Really Uncle Bumi?"

"Yes, really! Shoot, I used to teach your mom back when I was younger." Bumi boasted.

"Really, mom used to skate? She never told me that." Dakota answered back

Bumi's face sort of dropped and he began rubbing his neck."Well, you other mom used to skate. B-but but, that doesn't mean this weekend won't be fun." he quickly corrected himself seeing Dakota's demeanor change. Dakota smiled and gave Bumi a hug

"Okay!" He said and went down the hall to recess.

He half walked half ran down the stairs while his hand glided down the rail. Once he came to the doors that led out to recess he began to slow and walked outside. He heard the loud laughter and screams from kids playing tag and hopscotch. He walked down the steps and sat down for a moment trying to observe and peep out who he could go up and talk to. He didn't see Kato run up to him from the side till he came up and sat next to him. "Brooo! You came outside for once." He said laughing and punching his arm. Dakota smiled at him knowing that his brother was his only friend.

"Yeah yeah, I guess you can't be my only friend." Dakota joked with him, they both laughed and Kato said "Right."

"Oh yeah," Dakota said just remembering "Uncle Bumi is taking us to the skate park this weekend."

"Oh lit!" Kato said. He was about to say something else when his friend Cameron came up cutting him off.

"Yo, Kato, we're about to play basketball. We need one more person, wanna join?" He asked, holding the ball between his arm and hip.

He jumped up. "Hell yeah, I wanna play!" He said running down the steps.

"Ohhh im telling mom." Dakota said jokingly.
"Oh yeah if you do I'm gonna tell her you yelled 'Fuck' when you lost in Call of Duty." Kato countered back.

Dakota's face went stuck "You got me there." he said laughing.

Kato was about to walk off and he turned around "Bro come over to the court, you can play next round, you know we're the best out here." He said fist bumping Dakota. He walked away leaving Dakota by himself again but not for long. He looked up and overheard some boys talking about wanting to get the next basketball game coming out while mentioning other games. He began to pick himself up and his confidence to go over there and talk to them. He walked over there to them. At first he stood a little outside of the group then he began hearing them talking about their kill streaks on Call of Duty. One kid said he got up to 10 kills before and others were talking about how they couldn't even get that. Here was his chance.

"I got 15 one time." He said joining in. The group looked over at him as if they just realized that he was standing there. One boy was about to say "Oh that's cool!" before he was cut off by another named, Damon.

"Oh look, the weird twin final came outside today." He said laughing and the other boy, Justin joined in to echo.

"The weird twin. That's funny. I didnt even think the dude could talk. I never heard him speak." He said laughing.

"Nah, dude he be talking to Mr. Bumi all the time." Damon said " He always stays in the class during recess like something is wrong with him or something."

Justin laughed. "Right like are you disabled? Do you know how to play?"

Dakota started feeling dejected and embarrassed for even thinking he could make any friends. He felt tears forming in his eyes but he sucked them up. He was about to turn around and just walk away when Damon spoke back up.

"He prolly doesn't even know how to fight." Damon said pushing him.

"Yeah, he probably can't," Justin said while joining in on the pushing. Dakota began to stumble back from the pushing and almost fell off the edge of the sidewalk into the dirt. He could see Kato from the side of his eye playing basketball still.

"Man, I should have just gone over there instead." he thought to himself. He kept getting pushed till he got pushed a little harder and he began feeling something well up in him, anger. The taunting was getting to be too much. Right before Justin could push him again he cocked his right arm back and punched him across the face.

No way bruh, that was a foul!" Kato yelled out laughing.

"Dude no it wasn't" Cameron said back. " You wanna shoot for it." He said.

"Heck yeah I wanna shoot for it." Kato said back. "I'll go first." He walked back to the freethrow line to get ready to shoot when a lot of laughter from a group kids began growing. He looked up trying to find the cause for it.

Cameron looked back at him and called out."Isn't that your brother?" He said pointing over to where the laughter was coming from. Kato looked up to where he was pointing. He saw Dakota getting pushed and almost falling off the sidewalk. He dropped the ball and ran over there as fast as he could.

He thought to himself how he was going to have to defend his brother again. Before he could get any closer he saw Daokta hit Justin across the face. He stopped dead in his tracks and 'Ooo's and Ahh's began to rise from the group.

Dakota watched as Justin fell cupping his cheek and he hit the ground crying. He wasn't sure what he had done. He stood over Justin looking down at him. He heard the hard blow of a whistle and his head jerked up swiveling to the where it came from. He saw Ms. Brown run up to them. She helped Justin up and stood between them two demanding to know what was going on.

Damon jumped in "I don't know he just punched Justin for no reason. I told you he's weird "

"That's a lie," Dakota exclaimed. "I was just trying to join in and they began laughing at me and pushing me."

"That's not true!" Justin said, still holding his cheek. Ms. Brown put her hands on her hip.

"Now boys, you know that is not the truth. I saw you push him right before he hit you back. But since you don't want to tell me the truth all three of you boys can go see Principal Umi." She began walking them to the door. She let the other teacher know what was going on and walked them to Principal Umi.

(Present)

Dakota finished telling his mom the rest of what happened cupping the phone to his cheek while Mr. Umi was sitting there listening in on the information. He heard his mom take a deep breath over the phone and began to speak. "Son, I'm not upset at you, you had every right to defend yourself but you are still in trouble when you get home. But, I am glad you were able to try and make friends,...even though it ended with you hitting someone"she laughed. He chuckled a bit and said 'right'.

"Give the phone back to principal Umi. I love you." Asami said

"I love you too." He passed the phone back to Mr. Umi and went to sit back down.

"Uh yes Ms. Sato." Umi said, clearing his throat. Dakota heard his mom mumbling through the phone but couldn't make out what she was saying. "Yes ma'am there will be consequences regarding the incident that happened today. We have a zero tolerance policy on fighting and that will result in a two day suspension. Dakota's face changed drastically.

"Oh yeah, I'm in deep trouble." He thought.

"Okay thank you very much, I understand and I'm sorry for the trouble my son has caused. mhhm , bye-bye" Asami hung up the phone she heard Korra coming down the stairs.

"Asami?" She heard her call out.

"Kitchen." She called back. Korra's head popped into the Kitchen and she walked in. "How'd you like it up there." Asami asked

"It was a really nice spacious main room and a huge ensuite. I think this might be the one honestly. It has everything I need, close to my job, basketball courts and a skate park nearby and plus…" She trailed off. "I'm near you and the kids." She said rubbing the back of her neck. Asami half paying attention while leaning on the counter still gave a half "Right, right." Korra looked over.

"Everything alright? I didn't mean to sound pushy about the kids." She said walking closer.

Asami's full attention came right back as she waved Korra off." No, no it's not about that."

"Oh, okay is something else the matter?"

"Well, my- I mean our son got into a fight at school."

"Who Kato?" Korra asked.

"No Dakota." Asami said. Korra chuckled a little. "What's funny?" Asami asked.

"Nothing I just would have put my money on Kato first. He's more hotheaded." Asami laughed.

"Yeah we know which twin took after you. You were always ready to fight."

"Oh hold on now! You weren't always the calm peaceful one either. That was just a front until you got rubbed the wrong way." Korra said laughing and pointing at her. "Now we know which one took after you. The silent striker."

"Yeah, yeah, yeah" Asami said smiling shooing Korra and those memories away.

"So what was the fight about anyway. Korra said coming up and leaning her back on the counter next to Asami.

"Well it may be my fault, but I told him to try and make some friends today and while at recess he tried and these boys started picking on him and they began pushing him and he finally got fed up and punched the boy in the face." Asami said

"That's my boy!" Korra said laughing.

"No, Korra, he shouldn't have gotten into a fight, he got suspended for two days." Asami said

"I mean Asami, he was just defending himself, just like how your dad always told you to defend yourself. Hell, he even put you in fighting classes. Our son was just born with that defending right hook." Korra said, making light of the situation. Asami laughed

"Yeah well the right hook always had you in trouble and now it got him 2 weeks punishment."

"Ahh you're a lightweight, with Tenzin that was at least one month of being grounded with two extra sessions of 'meditation'. God I hated it." Korra said reminiscing.

"Yeah well it's not like it stopped you from getting in more trouble and sneaking out at night." Asami said back.

"Well, I had to find some way to see you." Korra said looking over her shoulder at Asami. Their eyes met cobalt meeting emerald as they internally reminisced together on their late night escapades they would have after Korra would sneak off the island. They stayed like that for a moment before Cosimo cleared his throat clearing the thick air that filled the room.

"You like?" He said while straightening out his shirt.

'Yeah we do." Korra said not thinking. "I mean yeah I do."

"Okay well let's go visit the other two and we can go back to the office and get you started with some paper applications.

Her and Asami rose from the counters with that moment still stuck in their heads. Asami followed behind Korra as they left the apartment. She thought about what Korra said, "Yeah,we do." Such a small statement. A statement she wished could have happened in the past.

As they walked back across the street to the leasing office she checked the time on her phone. '3:25 p.m'. "Shoot," she said aloud. Korra turned around to face her as they walked into the office.

"I lost track of time. I have to go pick the boys up at 3:40." She said.

Cosimo chimed in, "No worries I'm just going to give you the three applications Korra you and your friends can just bring them back whenever with the $50 application fee, and I also need to give you guys your ID's back." He said reaching in the drawer pulling out their ID's and giving Korra the Applications. They said their thank you's and left. Korra held the door open for Asami and walked out after her.

"I can drive you over there and pick them up. So you don't have to rush." Korra said

"No, you don't have to do that. It'll be fine if I'm a few minutes late." Asami said

"Asami,"Korra said, Asami looked over at her. "It's okay I wanna do this. Who knows I may have to pick them up sometime."Korra said as they got in the car. Asami felt her resolve falter and gave into Korra. "Maybe I should let her in just a bit. What the worst that could happen? She leaves again. No big deal. Or if she leaves again after creating a bond with, not only hurting me but them too." She thought to herself. Her anxious thought played over her face. Korra noticed and smiled.

"There is nothing that could make me leave again 'Sami. I promise." She said almost resting her hand on Asami's thigh before catching herself and pulling away. She tried to do it subtly as she used a turn coming up as an excuse of why she pulled away. Asami noticed and somewhat yearned for her touch. After a few more minutes Korra turned into the school pulling into the car pick up line. Asami told her to pull over to a nearby parking space because she had seen Dakota and Kato standing with the principal. Korra parked and they both got out. Asami went up to the boys and the principal and began talking with them while Korra lingered behind a bit.

"Principal Umi." Asami said as she walked up.

"Yes, hi Ms. Sato I just wanted to meet with you in person about the events that took place today and to re-inform you that it will be a two day suspension. Also, the boys who started the altercation have been dealt with the same consequences at this time. Their parents are fully aware that it was their boys who were the starters of the fight. I say this to say that I do not blame Dakota for this and I know that this isn't something he'd do for no reason." He said, finishing off.

"Yes I understand very much and I do apologize for my son causing a disruption." Principal Umi shook his head in agreement and walked away tending to the supervision of the car line. Asami looked over at the boys "Dakota," She said, He looked up at her eyes getting misty. "I do understand you were trying to do what I asked but getting suspended from school is not right. You will be grounded for two weeks. I understand that you were defending yourself and I'm glad you stood up to them." She said hugging him.

"Yeah mom you should have seen it, I thought I was gonna be the one in a fight again." Kato said laughing.
"Yeah well you get into another fight your gaming stuff is getting taken and you're gonna be grounded again." Asami said, smirking.

"Okay, okay I won't!" he said quickly to avoid trouble too. "Korraaaa!" he exclaimed as he looked past his mom. He ran up to her fist bumping her.

"Hey lil man how was your day?" She said smiling at him.

"It was alright! Until Dakota's fight at recess. I was playing ball when it happened. I was running over there to defend him but he had already taken care of it." Kato said looking back at his mom and brother.

"Well," Korra said, "Always defend your brother no matter what but, don't get into fights. I got into a lot too and your mom-" Korra stopped herself. Kato looked a bit confused. "I mean just don't get into any more fights." She laughed it off. Asami walked up to them with Dakota. She looked back and saw two different parents talking with Principal Umi. "Um, Kota are those the boys that picked on you?"

"He looked back," Yeah." He said ashamed.

"Korra get them in the car. I'm just going to talk to them real quick." Asami said as she walked towards the parents that just left the principal. Korra got the boys in the car and turned it on. She didnt get in but leaned on the hood watching Asami.

Asami caught up to the two boys and their mothers. Their sons were getting in their cars before she called out to them."Hi, Excuse me, excuse me." Asami said, getting their attention. The two parents turned around and walked up to her.

"Hi,yes?" One parent answered back.

"I just wanted to let you both know. If your sons ever put their hands on either one of my children again. You will have to deal with me, okay?" She said letting them know she's not the one to play with. She didnt even give them the chance to stutter before walking away back to Korra and the boys. As she came into view of Korra she could see her smirking.

"What?" Asami asked, walking up to her.

"Who's the hot headed one now?" Korra said chuckling.

"Oh shut up. I had to let them know." She said laughing back.

They both got in and buckled up. Korra was about to pull out when…

"How do you guys know each other?" Dakota asked. Both Korra and Asami paused.

Not even going to say it, you guys already know and I'm sorry! But please R and R. Tried to make it long.
