Chapter 1: Doubt
"Nii-Sama" Byakuya heard his sister's feet stop behind the heavy oak office doors long before he heard her speak.
"Please enter Rukia," he stated in his usual calm tone that always seemed devoid of emotion, lifting his eyes from the laptop screen to see the door open.
Rukia walked inside trying her best not to look excited, but Byakuya has known her far too long to be fooled.
"Rukia, I know you stopped to catch your breath before coming in, you might as well just tell me what it is" he stated and resumed typing on his computer.
The girl rolled her eyes. Nothing got passed her brother's powers of perception. She approached his desk and took a seat on one of the grand, high back leather chairs and pushed an envelope towards him, barely containing her excitement. Byakuya raised a neat brow.
"What is this?" he asked picking up the object, peeking inside.
Inside was a plane ticket, a brochure with resorts and activities for Varadero and other destinations in Cuba. Byakuya closed the envelope and handed it back to her.
"You have planned a trip to Cuba" he nodded "When will you and Renji be leaving, I assume he will be going with you" he said and got up from his seat and walked over to his in-office coffee station to pour a strong cup full.
"No Nii-Sama, when are WE going" she laughed acting innocent and stressing the word 'We' while gesturing between the two of them.
"Excuse me?" Byakuya asked over his cup, his breath making the steam flurry in the air.
Rukia stepped closer placing the envelope in his suit pocket "Nii-Sama, I bought three tickets to Varadero Cuba, Orihime was supposed to come, but she can no longer make it" Rukia smiled at him "So now, I'm giving her ticket to you! Since no one else can go" she beamed at her brother.
"I won't be going," he said plainly handing the envelope back while walking back to his desk "If you will excuse me, I have a meeting to be in" he dismissed her while grabbing his things.
"Come on Byakuya!" Rukia exclaimed "You haven't taken time off work since Hisana died, please come with us" She begged looking up at him with her large plum-colored eyes. "You know I will only keep asking until you say yes" She smirked up at him "I will even move the dates until you agree to come along!" She stated.
Byakuya knew she was not bluffing, Rukia would go on until she got her way. With a heaving sigh Byakuya looked down at her and nodded "Fine, if it will get me some peace, I will go" he gave in to her wishes yet again.
"Yes! Thank you Nii-Sama" Rukia hugged her brother "I promise you will have a great time" She smiled at him and ran out of the office, no doubt to tell Renji how she persuaded him. "We leave in two weeks!" she yelled from the hallway.
"I do doubt that I will" Byakuya muttered to the empty office before leaving for his meeting.
Rukia smiled to herself as she continued down the hallway. The whole Orihime story was a lie, she really wanted her brother to take a break and see some sun. When her sister, Hisana, died, Byakuya threw himself into his work for the first year or so. After that, it just became a habit. In the four years after her death, Byakuya never took a break not even for birthdays, Christmas, or any other special events.
After Hisana's death, Rukia and Byakuya remained very close, their relationship became that of brother and sister and Rukia took her role as his 'sister' very seriously. She was tired of seeing him so serious and over-worked. This vacation was going to do him good. "You will see Nii-Sama" she spoke softly to herself.

Two weeks went by with a blur with Byakuya trying to get ahead with his work, he was planning on working on the plane and on the trip but Rukia forbade him from brining any technology that is not his phone or Camera…or anything work related.
He knew better than to argue with her when it came to those sorts of things. He had to admit that the trip sounded intriguing. For the last few years, he did nothing but work, perhaps a two-week break will not kill him. Kuchiki Enterprises would be fine without him, or that is what he told himself. Byakuya was used to being in control of all the aspects of his life, he found it hard to simply put everything on hold and take a vacation.
Byakuya was busy packing the last of his things when Rukia stepped into his room
"Byakuya, are you okay? I mean are you okay with leaving?" she asked him while scanning his face for any ques.
"I would never take a trip by my own decision, but I have not properly spent time with you, or anyone for that matter, since Hisana died" he said glancing at the photo of his late wife on his nightstand. "I am fine with this" he nodded toward his luggage and gave his sister a small, rare smile.
"Okay Nii-Sama" Rukia said softly before exiting "Me and Renji will be waiting downstairs, we should leave in the next hour" she smiled and went on her way.
Byakuya finished his packing and met up with his travel partners downstairs. A limo came to pick them up and they started their journey to the airport, Byakuya sighed inwardly, it was going to be a long flight.
The trip to the airport was not as horrible as Byakuya thought it would be, everyone was mostly quiet apart from light conversation here and there, or Rukia reassuring Byakuya that he was going to have a good time.
The limo dropped them at the airport, the three made their way inside and continued to check in, Byakuya hated busy places like airports, he always has. The smells of Omegas, Alphas and Betas all mixing made him scrunch up nose. As an Alpha himself, his nose was sensitive to other's scents…especially Omegas. Hisana was a Beta, so he never had to deal with omega heats and such, the other Kuchiki alphas never liked the fact that Byakuya married a beta, Kuchiki alphas were expected to mate and impregnate an Omega. Byakuya was the outcast of the family for a very long time due to him marrying a beta, but after Hisana's death, the other alphas started encouraging him to move on and find himself an Omega and 'redeem' himself. He despised the idea.
Once they were on the plane, each busied themselves with their own things. Rukia and Renji were discussing which sights and places they wanted to see in Cuba and how they though the Hotel was going to be. Byakuya shook his head, quite amused by the childish excitement the two displayed. They made a good pair, although Byakuya did not like the loud-mouth red head at first. But who was he to deny his siter happiness after he also married a Beta and crossed family lines and rules? He sat down and pulled out one of the books he brought to read. He sighed; it was going to be a long flight indeed.

By the time they landed at Varadero Airport, Byakuya was very annoyed with his two travel partners. They could do nothing but argue and behave childishly. Sometimes he wondered how they were considered adults.
"We are finally here you guys!" Rukia exclaimed grabbing Renji and Byakuya by the arms and dragging them to collect their luggage "what should we do first!" she asked excitedly
"I for one would like to go to my hotel room and freshen up" Byakuya stated as he rubbed his temples to try and battle the approaching headache.
"Perfect, we can all go and freshen up and then meet to go to the beach?" she looked the men waiting to hear their opinions.
"Sounds good" Renji said "Hey Byakuya, you better show or Rukia will drag you out of that room of yours" he laughed as the dark-haired man only shook his head.
The three continued to exit the airport and boarded the arranged limo to make the journey to their hotel room. Byakuya would never admit how excited he was to get to the hotel and finally have a relaxing shower and get a break from his brash sister and her loud mate. The drive from the airport was not too long, but it felt like an eternity, being hungry and annoyed was not the best state to catch Byakuya in.
When they finally arrived at the 5-star Hotel, each went to their separate suites, Renji and Rukia sharing a suite and Byakuya having his own. They agreed to meet up in the hotel lobby to start their day, it was till early, so they could fit a whole day of activities in. The first stop was going to be the beach as Rukia requested, or rather demanded.
