"Why did we decide to do this again?" Suki asked before proceeding to vomit onto the ground for the second time that evening. The prisoner convoy had decided to stop for the day to give eel hounds rest. They had been moving everyday for the better part of four days and they had yet to reach the coast.
"Well, it's not my fault you're pregnant," Toph mumbled under her breath in an attempt that no one would hear her.
"What did you say, Toph?" Suki asked suspiciously as she tried to keep herself from vomiting for the third time that morning.
"Oh, nothing...just that you shouldn't have eaten all that rotten meat," the Earthbender replied with a sigh as she sat on a rock.
"Toph, you know Suki has been extra hungry recently. I just gave her some of my food! Don't blame her!" Sokka jutted into the conversation from the other side of the clearing they were in.
"Well, MAYBE you should have cooked it longer!" Toph shouted at the tribesman. She groaned into her hands, simply not understanding how her friends could possibly be this dumb all the time.
"Hey you three, no unnecessary talking!" one of the shoulders called from their camp.
"Oh?" Sokka yelled back with a smug look on his face. "And what are you going to do about it?"
Suddenly, a torrent of fire came rushing out of the woods and was heading straight towards the group of three. They tried to dodge the fire but it was too widespread, causing their clothing to become scorched and charred.
"I guess they can do that," Sokka choked as he coughed up some smoke.
Suki and Toph simply facepalmed at his antics and sighed.
"What am I going to do with you?" Suki asked Sokka as she walked over to him.
"Kiss me?" he cheekily asked with a smile.
"I guess I could do that," Suki said with a smirk. She leaned in to kiss the man child in front of her.
"UGHHH, could you both please NOT do that right now?" Toph cried as she attempted to force down the slight hint of pink that was on her cheeks.
"What? It's not like you can see it or anything. Why do you even care?" Sokka asked as he was about to make out with Suki.
"For your information, Ice Brain, I may not be able to see you idiots fuck with my eyes, but I can DAMN well see it with my feet!" Toph yelled at her friends, who simply smirked at her.
"Well, Toph, it sounds like you've watched before," Suki said with the biggest smirk she could muster. "Is there something we should know about?"
These comments caused Toph to blush even more. "You know what? Fuck you," she said with a sigh as she got up and started walking away.
"I bet you wish you could!" Sokka yelled as he grabbed Suki's butt and kissed her on the lips.
"Hey, I thought we told you three to KEEP IT DOWN!" a soldier said from inside the woods.
Toph silently bended herself an earth tent and tried to go to sleep so that she wouldn't have to watch as her friends got in the middle of the woods surrounded by Fire Nation soldiers. Where did I go wrong? she thought to herself that night as she frowned at her friends' recent actions last night.
When the next morning arrived, the group set out again for the harbor. They were loaded onto the wooden carriage, tied to posts that lined the walls of the carriage, blinded, gagged, and knocked unconscious for the single Snuffer that accompanied them on their journey.
The journey itself did not take very long and they soon found themselves being ushered onto a metal boat that was going to be going to the Boiling Rock. Sokka, Toph, and Suki were all led to metal cells where they would be staying for the week-long trip to the prison...or so the soldiers thought.
"Toph, can you take down these walls so that we aren't separated?" Sokka asked as he sat on the cold metal floor.
"I mean, I guess I could, but it might make the guards suspicious of us since we are all in one cell," Toph replied as she rested on the wall.
"We could always have someone as a lookout so that they can let us know that someone is coming. Sokka, do you still have your watch?" Suki asked as she looked through the bars to her boyfriend.
"Yeah," he replied as he looked at his wrist. "They didn't take that from me, so I still have it; it's 3:30 in the afternoon...or at least, I think it's the afternoon."
"Why wouldn't it be the afternoon?" Toph asked as she looked at the wall in front of her. "We haven't been on this boat for very long."
"True, but time flies sometimes, you know?" Suki said as she sat on the floor in a lotus position.
"I mean, you're the only one that has been in this situation before, Suki," Sokka pointed out.
"Oh yeah, what happened the last time you were like this?" Toph asked, sitting up slightly.
"Well, do you want the full story?"
"Sure, we have time," Sokka said as he lay on his back on the floor.
"Alright. Well, it went something like this..."
~~ FLASHBACK ~~
Suki and a group of thirteen Kyoshi Warriors were walking through the forest in the Earth Kingdom. They were walking back to Kyoshi Island after they had been hired to do a job for a couple just north of Ba Sing Se.
It was a simple job that involved getting rid of some bandits that had taken up residence a few miles away from a village. Suki met the girls near Ba Sing Se since she was already close by after traveling with the Avatar and his friends to get across Serpent's Pass.
After they found each other, Suki led them to the village where they were hired and commenced their job. They had to kill fifteen bandits and free the possessions that they had already taken. They then returned to the village and returned the things that the bandits had stolen. The group decided to rest at the village for the night and then they would start their journey back to the island the next day. They were walking south of Ba Sing Se on their way back to the island when Suki saw some fur on the ground.
"Hey guys, let's stop here for a second," she called out to her group.
"What's wrong, Suki?" one of the girls asked from the front of the formation. Her name was Lucy. She was a sixteen-year-old girl who had blonde hair and green eyes. She was wearing her uniform makeup and her hair was in a ponytail. She was Suki's second-in-command and her most trusted friend.
"Yeah, why did we stop?" another one asked. She was Ellis who was seventeen and the team's field medic. She had brown eyes and dark brown hair as well as a medic bag strapped to her back. She walked up to Suki and looked at her with confusion written on her face.
"Look," Suki said as she pointed to a clump of fur on the ground. "It looks like an animal is in danger. We should find it and try to help it!"
"Yeah, I think that's a good idea," Ellis spoke as she began walking in the direction where she thought the animal could be. "It could be dying and we could be able to save it."
"Alright everyone, split up and look for either tracks of the injured animal or the animal itself," Suki commanded as she looked around at her group. They all gave salutes and left the clearing.
After walking for about five minutes, Ellis and Suki both found another clump of fur that had blood on it.
"You know, this kinda looks like Appa's fur," Suki said as she examined the fur closer.
"You're right, but shouldn't Aang be in Ba Sing Se by now? What would they be doing all the way out here?" Ellis asked, pocketing the fur into her bag.
"El...I'm getting a bad feeling about this."
"Yeah, I know what you mean," the medic replied as the pair continued to walk deeper into the forest.
They were walking and collecting clumps of fur when they found a boot print in the mud. Suki held up her hand and glanced at Ellis, who was looking back at her.
"We should call the others," Suki suggested with a sigh. "Who knows what we could be walking into right now."
"Yeah, you're right," Ellis said as she brought out her whistle.
She blew on it and a loud, high-pitched screech bellowed through the woods. After a couple minutes of waiting, the first of the warriors emerged out of the woods and appeared in front of the two girls. When all the girls finally arrived, Suki explained the situation and soon they started to creep into the darker section of the woods.
They found large uprooted trees, broken branches, scorch marks, and blood; lots of it. Suki was starting to get worried as she saw more clumps of white and brown fur laying on the ground.
"Girls, we need to move!" Suki shouted as she started running deeper into the woods.
They were running for ten minutes when they heard noises that sounded like fighting up ahead. Corpses of Fire Nation soldiers littered the ground as they ran through, making them all the more nervous.
They finally stumbled upon a group of Fire Nation soldiers walking in the woods arguing. Suki signaled for the girls to hide in the trees and listen to what they were saying.
"I cannot believe that Princess Azula is having us hunt down that stupid flying bison," the soldier said as he rested on a tree trunk to drink some water.
"Yeah, but at least Azula and her friends are helping us this time," the other soldier replied with a sigh. "They could have just waited at the camp and had us do all the work."
"I hate that stupid bison! It's killed five of our eighteen fighters! I can't wait to wear its skin as a coat when this is all over."
Having heard enough, Suki signaled for the two closest girls to go and kill the soldiers. Once done and the bodies buried, Suki looked at her troops and saw their reactions to what the two idiots had said. Most of the girls were, of course, disgusted at what the soldiers had said and were thankful they were dead.
"Alright, we have thirteen soldiers that we need to take care of. We have thirteen girls, so this works. Three of them are probably going to be Azula, Ty Lee, and Mai who are now at the Fire Squad. Lucy, Ellis, and I will take care of those three. If we need help - which we probably will - I will send out flares. Girls, let go save Appa!" Suki commanded with conviction in her voice.
"RIGHT!" the girls called out as one. They dispersed from the clearing and sprinted off in different directions to try and find any of the soldiers. Some of the girls found immediate success and others of them didn't find any immediately.
Ellis, Suki and Lucy all began running to the north where they found the most clumps of fur.
"I think he's up ahead!" Lucy cried as she collected the fur.
"I have to agree with you on that one!" Suki said as she brought out her fans.
After a few minutes of sprinting, they found a downed tree and blue fire coming from the trunk.
"Well, we know who caused this," Lucy mumbled as they took off again towards the battle.
Once they arrived at the scene, they locked eyes on Appa, who had some of his fur scorched and cuts and bruises all over his body. He was backing away from Azula, who had two bright blue fireballs in her hands. Ty Lee was giggling as she was walking on her hands towards Mai, who was attempting to scare Appa with knives and needles.
"Step away from the bison!" Suki yelled as she threw one of her fans at Azula.
Azula, however, noticed and dodged swiftly. "Oh, well if it isn't one of the Avatar's play things!" Azula spat as she glared at the girls in front of her. "I didn't know that you had a thing for his beast as well."
"You know, if I didn't think any better, I would assume that you get off from the torture and fear of inocent animals!" Suki fired back as she got into a fighting stance.
"I'll have you know that the killing of this beast will help the Fire Nation win the war!" Azula said as she too went into a stance.
Meanwhile, Ellis was facing off against a bored Mai, who groaned audibly. "Well, at least you aren't a bimbo like your other friend."
"Hey, She is not a bimbo!" Ellis shouted as she unsheathed her large metal fan.
"Sure she isn't. And I'm the Queen of the Water Tribe," Mai responded sarcastically. "Let's just get this over with." She fired several different knives and needles at the brunette, who dodged them all.
At the same time, Lucy was walking over to Appa and trying to calm him down with some fruit that she had in her bag. Ty Lee saw this and sprinted over to her.
"Hey! The only one getting near this cutie is me!" the Acrobat shouted as she kicked Lucy in the stomach. She landed on her feet in a crouched piston and groaned.
"Well, at least it seems you've got more brain then boob," Lucy grumbled as she stood back up.
"I'm not a bimbo! I just flaunt what I got!" Ty Lee said as she jiggled her chest, which made a tick mark appear over Lucy's head.
"Let's just get this over with," the second in command sighed as she threw down her bag and balled up her fists. Lucy wasn't all for the fans. She still had some, but preferred to use her fists in combat.
Azula launched at Suki and tried to punch her in the head. When Suki dodged and brought up her fan to protect her face, Azula pivoted on her back foot and sent a barrage of fireballs from her feet towards Suki.
Suki rolled out of the way and launched some of her smaller fans towards the Princess, who dodged the fans and sent a column of fire at the girl. Suki used her fan to block the fire and started walking towards Azula. She started pushing the fire towards the bender, who stopped the flow of fire. Taking advantage, Suki sprinted and pucked Azula square in the jaw, sending her flying back.
"Is that all you got?" Suki yelled as she threw more fans towards the downed Princess.
Ellis glanced over at her leader who had just punched Azula and smirked. "Is that the big bad Azula? She doesn't look so bad to me." She then grabbed her fan which was in the folded position and started running towards Mai, who brought out a short sword. Both girls charged each other and clashed swords, sparks flying everywhere.
"No one has ever made me bring this weapon out. I didn't think I'd ever get the change to use this in battle," Mai said as she jumped back from Ellis with a smirk on her face.
"I'm the best fan fighter in the Kyoshi Warriors. You don't scare me!" the brunette shouted as she held her fan over her head and changed. She brought the fan down above Mai's head and tried to strike, but was blocked.
Both girls were trading blows with each other. Mai, however, was slowly getting the upper hand and was overpowering Ellis. "Why do you fight with a fan? It's a blunt object," Mai droned, no emotion in her voice.
"This is a special fan. Its sides are as sharp as a sword but it can unfold and still be a metal fan!" Ellis explained as she ducked one of Mai's strikes. She then kicked the assassin's legs from underneath her, causing her to fall on her knees.
"Hm, interesting. But you're going to have to do much better than that to subdue me!" Mai cried as she flicked her wrists and lanced three needles at Ellis, who dodged all but one.
"Ha! You think that's going to do anything?" Ellis sneered as she took out the needle. However, she noticed it had liquid on it.
"We shall see," Mai said as she charged Ellis and struck hard with Ellis bringing up her fan to block it.
I hope Lucy is having a better time than I am right now, The Brunette thought as she continued to parry and cut Mai.
Lucy was currently having an all-out brawl with Ty Lee. She was actually enjoying being able to beat the stuffing out of someone. She was used to the Chi Blocking, so she was able to block and not get hit with any of them.
"Wow, you're crafty for a bimbo," Lucy sniggered as she dodged another one of the acrobat's attacks.
"What can I say? I'm used to it," Ty Lee responded as she launched another one of her attacks. She jumped and kicked Lucy in the face, which gave the medic a swollen black eye.
"Alright, now you've done it," Lucy growled. She sprinted towards Ty Lee and punched her firmly in the stomach. She didn't, however, let up as she kicked her in the knee, making the acrobat come crashing down. Lucy then elbowed her and threw her at a tree.
"Stay down, bitch!" Lucy called out as she ran towards Azula and Suki. While her back was turned, though, Ty Lee got the advantage and sprinted towards Lucy and Chi Blocked her, causing the medic to stumble and fall. She then dislocated the girl's left shoulder and snapped her neck.
"Never call me a bitch again!" Ty Lee shrieked as blew a raspberry at the now dead blond. She then located Azula and ran towards her.
Mai was in a pickle; she was panting and attempting to dodge Ellis's attacks, which were coming heavily and quickly. C'mon that poison should be kicking in soon! she thought to herself as she dodged yet another shrink.
"What's wrong? Not used to getting beat?" Ellis yelled with a smirk on her face. She sprinted towards her opponent, but stumbled. She tried to get up, but found it impossible to move. "W-what's going on?"
"Oh, I don't know...maybe when you got hit in the arm, the needle was coated in a poison that, once in your body, would cause your muscles to seize up," Mai explained deviously. "I may have lightened up on you so that you would move faster, causing the poison to move faster throughout your body. No big deal." She smirked coldly at Ellis's limp body as she stood up and started walking towards the blonde girl.
"N-no, that can't happen! I..." Ellis trailed off as she saw her executioner walk towards her.
"Save it," Mai interrupted as she knocked the girl unconscious. "Stupid blondes." She whipped her sword on the ground and saw Ty Lee finish her fight as well. "We should go help Azula." The two of them both ran off towards their friend, who was getting up from being tossed by Suki.
Suki looked over at Appa who was watching and groaned, then looked around and pointed to an area where he could take off and fly again. "Go, Appa! You need to leave!" Suki called to him as she ran towards him, only to be stopped by blue fire approaching towards her side. She rolled out of the way, but then immediately had to dodge knives that were being thrown at her.
"What, you thought that you beat me?!" Azula yelled hysterically as she dusted herself off. "I was merely stalling so that Mai and Ty Lee could beat your other two team members!"
"Wha-" Suki looked over at her two team members and gasped. She saw the snapped neck of Lucy and the broken and beaten form of Ellis both sprawled on the ground. Suki looked at her three opponents and sighed.
"Appa! You need to run! I'll hold them off!" she ordered as she made her last stand against a pissed off Ty Lee, smirking Azula, and stone-faced Mai.
Appa groaned again and ran to take off, lifting his tail and flying as high as he could into the air. He turned around, looked at Suki, and groaned in appreciation.
Suki looked at her enemies and sighed. "Well, it's just you and me now!" she yelled as she charged at Azula, who smirked.
"No," Azula said simply as she saw Ty Lee sneak behind the warrior. "It's just me!"
Suki opened her mouth to reply, but suddenly found that her world went black.
"Take her to the camp. We'll have the men transport her to Boiling Rock when we get to Ba Sing Se!" Azula barked as she started walking away from the clearing back to camp.
~~ FLASHBACK END ~~
"Wow," Sokka whispered as he looked at the now crying form of Suki, who was huddled tightly in a ball.
"I'm so sorry," Toph said as she bended down the walls in the cell so that they could comfort Suki.
"I...I wish I could have said goodbye, but the next thing I knew, I was in a box being transported," she explained between sobs from the arms of Sokka, who kissed her on the head. "It should have been me, not them! Ellis was the best medic we ever had! Lucy was a better leader than I ever could be!"
"They would have wanted you to keep going," Toph said as she comforted the Kyoshi Warrior.
"Yeah, but it's so hard," Suki cried out weakly.
"I know it's hard, but we have to keep going. You need to keep going. If not for yourself, then for them! Win this war for them!" Sokka said with conviction as he looked into Suki's eyes.
"Yeah, you're right," Suki said as she looked up into the barred window of her cell. "We do it for them! For everyone who has lost something in this war." She looked out and smiled.
"We do it for everyone."
