Author's Note: Hey everyone! Sorry for the delay, but going back through every chapter and fixing it is taking longer than expected. At most, for the time being, it's going to be about a chapter a month update.

Now time to answer the question from anon: Percy in my story is only 17 and very human in her emotions. While physically very strong, she went toe to toe with Gods and Monsters, she is still somewhat immature in regards to certain things. Her fatal flaw is loyalty as well. If she thinks that someone she loves is in danger, all rational thought goes out the window. Trust me when I say, she can be real stupid about some things. Plus the Gods, Chaos and Nyx included, can't intervene all the time, so there will be times when she is going to be on her own.

For everyone else thank you for reading! Also, I'm not sure about the pairings yet. I may upload the love stories again at a later date. But for now, no pairings.

Chapter 4

Leliana signed as she flipped through report after report. The mysterious girl had yet to wake up, the healers were not optimistic about her chances, and it was getting more difficult to keep the peace as people called for her death, blaming her for all the destruction and the death of the Divine. Cassandra had been stopped multiple times from storming the healer's tent and either killing the girl, or tossing her out for the people to kill.

"Sister Nightingale!" a scout shouted rushing into the room.

"What is it, has another rift opened?"

"It's Lady Cassandra, she has ordered the prisoner to be brought to the dungeons after Healer Aedan reported her close to waking."

Shaking her head, Leliana dismissed the scout and hurried from the War Room to find the Elven Mage, Solas, protesting the girl's treatment as she was dragged, more roughly than needed, by two soldiers down to the dungeon. She would have to have a word with them later, the prisoner might be under suspension, but they were better than that. Maybe sometime in the Fallow Mire, they did need more information from the region.

"Enough, she could be responsible for the explosion at the Conclave and I will know the truth!" Cassandra shouted as she began to draw her sword.

"Clam down Cassandra, Solas means no harm and until we know what and who we are dealing with, it is important that we proceed carefully, least we do something that we cannot take back." She chided, watching as a red flush crept up the Seeker's neck.

"If you push her too much it could undo all the work that we spent keeping her alive." Solas added.

Glaring at the two in front of her, Cassandra grunted in disgust before storming down the stairs and towards the prison cells. Sighing deeply Leliana told Solas to leave and quickly made her way after the Seeker. She would have to watch her friend closely and keep her from doing something that she would regret later. They also had no information on the prisoner, if she was someone important, someone that could provide help and they killed her, or worse, the Inquisition would die before it began.

Entering just after Cassandra, Leliana found the girl awake and looking around at her surroundings. She was petite, shorter than both Leliana and Cassandra, maybe a bit taller than Solas, but not by much. She was very pretty. Her black hair was slightly matted and her skin was bruised from falling out of the Fade and the rough treatment by the soldiers. But it was her eyes that drew everyone in the most. It was similar to the sea near Rivain, a bright bluish green that seemed to shift and change color as she watched.

"You're lying!"

Jolting back to reality, Leliana quickly intercepted Cassandra as she lunged for the prisoner. Fighting to keep the enraged woman back, Leliana mentally sighed at her friend's rash nature before pushing back harder, forcing Cassandra to shift her glare from the prisoner to Leliana.

"We need her Cassandra."

Grunting, Cassandra turned away from everyone and took in a deep breath. Maybe she had rushed into this, maybe she should have waited, but Justinia deserved justice and this woman could have the answers she was desperately seeking. She had to find out what happened and who she needed to point her sword at. She needed a target.

"Go to the forward camp, Leliana, we will meet you there."

Sighing Leliana conceded and called for the soldiers in the dungeon to follow as she made her way out of the Chantry, grabbing her bow as she raced past her tent. Sending up a prayer that Cassandra would control her temper and make it through the valley safely, with the prisoner intact. She dodged past demons and called for soldiers to wait along the path to ensure that it was cleared for when the two women came through.

Back in Haven Cassandra was preparing the stranger for the journey through the valley. Explaining about the Breach in the sky, she watched the prisoner's face and only found surprise, confusion, and a bit of fear. Maybe Leliana was right, maybe the prisoner was innocent, but until it was confirmed and they had proof for all the citizens, this woman would be kept under watch. For her safety and Cassandra's peace of mind.

Keeping an eye on people as they passed through Haven, Cassandra had to use her glare and the threat of her sword to keep more than one person from approaching them. She knew they would attack if given the opportunity, but she would not give them the chance.

"The Conclave was a chance for peace and now it has been destroyed. We don't know what will happen in the days to come. But for now, we must see if the mark on your hand has the ability to close the Breach."

Motioning for the prisoner to proceed her through the larger gates, Cassandra kept her in front so she could track her movements and keep her from bolting. Twice they had to stop as a pulse from the Breach caused the mark to flare in response, causing the prisoner to cry out in pain. Cassandra winced each time it causes her to stumble and the sickly green color spread across the palm of her hand.

"Come, we need to hurry, there are smaller rifts that we need to test the mark against, it is possible that doing so may stabilize it."

Together the two women raced through the valley, with Cassandra fighting against any demons that approached alone. The prisoner's acceptance of remaining defenseless made Cassandra wary. Most would have objected, but this one seemed content to remain the background and watch. Cassandra was curious to know if the prisoner knew how to fight, her appearance spoke of a wealthy background, she was healthy, and the clothes she was wearing spoke of wealth, with how finely made they were. But she was reluctant to allow the prisoner access to a weapon, especially when it was just the two of them. The sound of distant fighting drew Cassandra's attention and caused her to push the prisoner to run faster. They had to make it in time.

"Quickly we must help them!" Cassandra commanded as she surged forward and mowed down a line of demons.

Solas took note of the Seekers sudden appearance and glanced around to find his patient standing a short distance away, watching the fight with interest, but making no move to join them. She appeared to be studying them, but they needed to end the battle quickly before the fighting went badly.

"Quickly, before more come through!" Solas yelled as he grabbed the prisoner's hand and thrusted it towards the rift. Cassandra watched as a link between the mark and the rift formed and in a flash the tear disappeared.

"What did you do?"

"I did nothing, the credit belongs to you." Solas refuted smirking at the woman's confused expression.

"You mean this." She corrected motioning to the glowing mark.

"It seems you hold the key to our salvation."

"So, the mark is capable of sealing the rifts." Cassandra interrupted seeing the information not spoken.

"Possibly, your prisoner is no mage, but I doubt that any mage would be able to produce enough magic to do something of this caliber." Solas stated, his eyes never straying from the prisoner.

"Great and here I thought we were going to be deep ass in demons forever. Allow me to introduce myself, Varric Tethras, rogue, storyteller, and occasionally unwilling tagalong." Varric joked, winking at Cassandra as she snarled.

"I brought you here to tell your story to the Divine, since that is no longer necessary you can leave."

"Now Seeker, we both know your soldiers are overrun, and you need help getting through the valley. You need me."

Grunting in disgust, Cassandra turned away from the dwarf before she gave into her urge to choke him. Laughing at the frustrated woman, Varric sidled up to the stranger to listen to what Chuckles and the girl were talking about.

"I am Solas if introductions are to be made, it is good to see that you have survived."

"He means, I kept that mark from killing you while you slept."

Percy watched as the elf and dwarf bantered back and forth for a bit before Cassandra interrupted and herded them forward. She snapped that there were still demons falling from the sky and they wouldn't wait for witty conversation. As she followed, Percy had to wonder why no one had asked for her name. Maybe they didn't want to know in the event she died. Or they didn't care as long as she was useful to them. But she knew, sooner or later someone would ask and then the fighting, or yelling, would start.

"We're almost to the forward camp!"

Slicing through more demons, Cassandra urged the group to go faster. Percy stumbled again when the marked flared suddenly, throwing a smile at Solas when he caught her. They ran past more destruction, dead bodies, and found the entrance to the camp blocked by a rift larger than the previous one. Working quickly the group destroyed the demons emerging. Percy quickly sealed the rift, staggering briefly into Varric and Solas. Cassandra was already walking through the gates, shouting for Leliana.

Leliana sighed as the chancellor continued to rebuff her efforts to get things prepared for Cassandra, the man was completely ignorant of the situation. There was no chance this situation could be handled by waiting, they had to get the prisoner to the Breach, the information the scouts had passed told her the way they needed to go. Turning from the man, lest she give in to the urge to hit him in the throat, she saw Cassandra stalking towards her, the prisoner, Varric, and Solas following.

"Chancellor Roderick, this is…"

"I know who she is." He interrupted dismissing her as he focused on the approaching group.

"As Chancellor of the Chantry, I order you to take this criminal to Val Royeaux to await execution."

Stunned at the sudden declaration, Percy watched as Cassandra and the Chancellor argued over her fate. They sky was raining demons, people were dead, or dying, and this man wanted to put her on trail become of what he assumed had happened. The thought process of people that worked in politics would never fail to confuse her.

"Excuse me, but isn't the giant hole in the sky more important than boosting your ego?"

Silence met her question as everyone turned to look at her. Solas and Varric wore matching grins as her question finally registered. Leliana just shook her head and Cassandra continued to glare at the Chancellor.

"You're the reason this happened!" Roderick yelled, his face turning an unflattering shade of red.

"Enough! We have to reach the temple, there is no other choice, and I refuse to watch this world fall because of your fear!" Cassandra growled leveling a fierce glare at the man.

"The direct route is not the safest, if you take the mountain pass while the soldiers charge, you would be able to avoid most of the fighting." Leliana advised as she motioned to the path in question.

"Its not safe, we lost an entire squad of scouts on that path." Cassandra countered.

Both women scowled at each other, Leliana was concerned about keeping the small group alive long enough for them to reach the Breach. Cassandra meanwhile, was more focused on reaching the Breach and closing it as fast as possible. Realizing that neither one of them was going to back down, Cassandra turned to the prisoner and took a deep breath.

"What do you think?"

"Wait, you're asking me?" Percy clarified stunned that they were even bothering.

"You have the mark." Solas pointed out.

"And you are the one we must keep alive, since we cannot decide between ourselves." Cassandra trailed off.

Looking towards the fastest path, Percy felt a soft breeze touch her face, turning to follow the breeze she found herself looking at the mountain path. Smelling roses suddenly she took it as a sign and sent up a prayer of thanks to whoever had sent her this sign.

"We'll take the mountain pass." Percy announced, narrowing her eyes when she saw Cassandra start to object.

"Leliana, bring everyone in the valley that is capable of fighting, hurry."

Leading the way Percy had to marvel at how willing they were to follow her and at their stupidity for not realizing she didn't know where she was going. She wondered briefly if this was going to a reoccurring theme. She was sure once they realized her heritage, they would most likely try to burn her alive. Glancing back, she watched as Varric and Solas worked together to get through the snow drafts. Cassandra was forging ahead and seemed to ignore the elements. Shivering as the wind tore through her, Percy breathed a sigh of relief as the scaffolding came into view, before cursing at the number of ladders.

Climbing the ladders slowly, Percy continued to curse whoever built this beneath her breath. She hated any activities that involved climbing, her feet were meant to stay on solid ground, not on a dying piece of wood, hovering over a canyon that meant sudden death should she fall. Finally reaching the top, she staggered to the doorway and took note of the things wandering around just inside. Motioning for Solas to come look, she missed the look that he sent her.

"More demons." Solas whispered.

"Go get 'em Cassandra." Percy encouraged motioning the warrior forward.

Nodding Cassandra moved around the group and charged the closest demon, taunting the others to keep their attention on her. Varric followed, disappearing into a cloud of smoke, only to reappear in the demon's blind spot on the other side of the room, firing bolt after bolt from his crossbow. Solas backed up both with ice and fire spells, freezing the demons and finishing them with a quick fireball.

"Well, that was something, we were lucky they were low leveled, anything stronger and we would have been in trouble." Varric announced wandering back to Chuckles and Glowbug.

"Let's continue on, we don't have much time." Cassandra urged, motioning for Percy to take the lead again.

Walking through the halls, Percy took note of the ice walls and peered over the railings to look down into the dark pit. She wondered what this place had been used for originally. It could have been a mine, but it wasn't very deep and there wasn't any scaffolding going down into the pit. So maybe a way station, offering some supplies to travelers, but it was so far out of the way.

"Demons ahead."

Jerking her head, Percy saw them just as Cassandra charged, yelling to draw their attention again. Keeping to the rear, Percy silently cursed herself for not grabbing a weapon when she had the chance. But she wanted to keep her abilities and powers hidden for the time being, and this gave her a chance to watch how people from this world fought together and she was worried by what she was seeing.

Cassandra was more worried about the spells Solas was casting than the demons they were fighting. This caused her to take a few hits that were avoidable. Solas tried to compensate for it, but was also watching over Varric, who was darting about, fire off shots whenever he had an opening. This world's view on magic was disconcerting, they ostracized those born with the ability and then expected them to fight when called upon. It didn't make sense here and it didn't make sense back on Earth.

"Looks like we found the missing scouts, damn."

Kneeling next to the bodies, Percy examined them, they were frozen and badly frostbitten, so it was difficult for her to determine what had been the cause of death. She couldn't even tell how long they had been dead.

"This can't be all the scouts; the groups are always large to ensure they can split up and break off as needed."

"So, the others might still be alive?"

"We cannot focus on them, the Breach must be our priority, if we fail to close it then everyone will be in danger." Solas gently reminded everyone.

Looking at the faint tracks left by the survivors, she guessed that they had headed the same way her group was set to take. They could still run into them, if the scouts were still alive. But Solas was right, they didn't have time to search for the scouts, especially if they had veered off the path to find shelter.

"Let's go."

Percy and Varric darted off quickly, both hoping to find survivors along the way. They had barely rounded a corner when a tall green demon shot out of nowhere and attacked. Varric immediately started firing bolts, while Percy grabbed a nearby sword. It wasn't Riptide, but it would do in a pinch. Lunging forward, she let the rhythm of the battle surround her. It didn't matter the world she was in; she had been fighting since she was eleven and this battle was no different from any other.

"Lady Cassandra!" one scout called out.

"Stay focused, this isn't over!" Percy snapped as the rift started pulsating again.

A group of green demons exploded from the group and let out ear piercing screams. Percy felt as though her eardrums were going to shatter the longer the screaming went on. They may look like dried string beans that walked, but they packed one hell of a punch.

"Freeze it, quickly!" Cassandra shouted.

Solas began casting as many ice spells as he could, Terror was a powerful demon and it would take multiple spells to freeze it completely. Varric guarded him as best as possible, with the scouts darting in and out, looking for any openings they could find and striking fast. As soon as the last demon fell, Percy made quick work sealing the rift, waving her hand at the sensation that shot through it.

"Closed, as before, you're becoming quite proficient at this." Solas observed taking hold of her flailing hand to see if there was any improvement or deterioration in the mark.

"Praise the Maker that you arrived when you did Lady Cassandra, I'm not sure we would have survived much longer."

"Do not thank me, this is the prisoners doing, she insisted that we come this way." Cassandra corrected turning to allow the scout to see Percy.

"The Prisoner, then you have my gratitude and thanks." The lead scout replied striking a closed fist to their chest.

"I'm glad to have helped, no one deserves to be left to an avoidable death."

Unsure how to reply to that statement, the scout turned to Cassandra who was also watching Percy. More and more, the younger woman said and did things that were confusing. She left Cassandra to fight alone, did not protest being unarmed during such a dangerous trek. She tried to appear harmless and non-threatening, did nothing to trigger any of her fighting instincts. After spending all that time not fighting and doing everything to appear harmless, she picked up a sword and fought brutally. She was obviously an experienced fighter, quick and efficient in battle.

"The way back is clear at the moment, go quickly."

"Thank you again, Maker keep you safe."

Watching the scouts hurry towards safety Percy tried to ignore the holes that Cassandra was glaring into her back as she examined her newly acquired sword. She was worried, glaring that much couldn't be healthy for anyone.

"Let's go, quickly." Percy declared, refusing to meet Cassandra's glare.

Percy listened as Varric and Solas talked about how the Breach might have been made, thinking back to what Chaos and Nyx had told her, she couldn't remember if they had said anything about a giant hole in the sky. Then again, being shoved into a swirling vortex and then held at sword point could wear on a girl's memory, maybe once she had a chance to catch her breath and meditate, she would remember something.

"The Temple of Sacred Ashes, this is where our soldiers found you, they said that you emerged from the fade and there was a woman standing behind you." Cassandra announced once they finally reached the temple ruins.

Shocked Percy could only stare at the carnage in horror, the twisted and mutilated bodies that were forever molded into positions of fear and pain. Trying not to pay attention to their faces, Percy was thankful she didn't see any small bodies, she always had a difficult time when children were involved with any sort of fighting, or calamity. Allowing Cassandra to take point, Percy paused momentarily to offer a quick prayer for the dead. Varric guided her over to where both Solas and Cassandra were waiting patiently. Maybe she could help with their version of funeral rites, should she survive this.

"Are you ready for this?" Cassandra asked.

"I'm not even sure how to start, Solas any ideas?"

"This is the first, close this and its possible all others may close, or at least weaken them. I would advise getting as close as possible."

"You made it!"

Jumping slightly, Percy turned to see Leliana approaching with a group of soldiers. Taking the lead Cassandra quickly stationed them in areas that gave them a good view of the base of the Breach. Walking carefully through the rubble, Percy compared what she was seeing to her vision and groaned, she just knew that this was going to be a repeat of what she had seen.

"Now is the hour of our victory."

"Bring forth the sacrifice."

Cassandra started demanding answers to the origin of the voice they were hearing. Solas offered a reason as to what they were hearing and how it had happened. None of this seemed to appease the older woman at all. As they continued on, they stumbled on a familiar outcropping of glowing red stones. A familiar song rang in Percy's ears, reminding her of the vision and how she had been drawn to the red glow originally.

"Red lyrium, don't touch it, the stuff is evil." Varric hissed.

"Someone, help me!"

"That was Divine Justinia's voice!" Leliana and Cassandra cried out together as they recognized the voice.

The closer they got to the base of the Breach, the weirder her head began to feel. Jumping down from a low ledge a sudden dizzy spell caused her to fall on her butt as a group of shadowy figures appeared. Solas stood in front of her incase this turned out to be a surprise attack.

"Someone help me!"

An elderly woman suddenly came into view, held up in the air by some form of red magic. Smaller figures darted in and around her, none of them had any features she could make out, until a much taller figure appeared in a swirl of smoke.

"Leave her alone!"

A small female suddenly appeared, slightly shorter than Varric, her features were vague, but she only looked a bit older than Percy herself. She leapt at the towering figure, two daggers flashing through the air, only to be tossed aside easily.

"We have an intruder, destroy the dwarf!"

"Run away quickly! Warn them!"

The smaller shadows began to swarm the female dwarf, followed by the sound of screaming that abruptly stopped once the vision disappeared. With its disappearance only more questions were raised, but out of them Percy could only assume that the dwarf was killed before the explosion. But who was the creature giving orders and what ritual were they trying to perform?

"Who was that, and the Divine, is she really dead?"

"What about the dwarf?"

"Peace Seeker, these are just memories that the Fade is replaying, spirits are often drawn to places that have great emotions tied to them. As for the dwarf, it is likely she died during her rescue attempt."

"Now this rift is temporarily closed. To seal it correctly we will need to reopen it and close it again. I can't predict what will happen, but we will likely attract attention from the other side." Solas finished.

"That means demons, everyone stand ready!"

Percy watched as everyone scrambled to take appropriate positions to combat any demons that came through the rift. Once everyone was in position, Percy held up her hand and allowed the mark and rift to connect. Flinching at the cold bite she felt, she tugged and felt something pop, before watching a demon, larger than the Minotaur appeared with a bang, knocking some soldiers down. Roaring the demon began to attack, the slow movement allowing those at its feet to dodge easily. Percy kept in its blind spot as she focused on doing damage to the knees and failed to see two smaller demons emerge from the rift.

"Look out!"

Hearing the shout, Percy turned to find a soldier blocking two minor demons, allowing her to retreat slightly and find another spot to attack from. As the fight carried on, it seemed as though they were making no headway in bringing their main target down. Getting angry at how long the fight was taking and how close many were to being killed, Percy allowed her temper to get the better of her. Digging deep for her fathers' power, she grinned slightly. Poseidon might be the God of the Seas, but he also held the title of Earthshaker. He could bend the Earth to his will and so could she, if she tried hard enough. Closing her eyes, she reached out to feel if it was possible for her to do this and almost danced in excitement when she felt the ground tremble in response to her, strongly.

Eyeing the unmoving woman curiously, Solas moved closer and felt a strange power emanating from her in small waves. As he kept one eye on her and one eye on the fight, he stumbled slightly when the first tremor caught him by surprise. The Earth started to shake directly beneath the area where the Pride demon was standing. The fighters saw their opportunity as it stumbled repeatedly.

Percy felt the Earth respond to her eagerly, it seemed to reach out to her and because of that she only had to tug slightly each time she wanted to cause the demon to stumble. With each violent shake of the ground, the demon was unable to launch an attack, or boost its defense. The soldiers and archers were able to fit vital points that were inaccessible before. Soon the demon shattered, its physical form breaking down and returning back to the fade. Seeing her chance, Percy used the mark again and strained against the force of the rift. It was fighting back this time, trying to break down what was left of her endurance, but Percy was stubborn and refused to back down. Allowing some of her father's power to flow through the mark, she felt something snap into place and watched as the rift closed. Smiling she felt the world spin a bit, before her consciousness began to fade, she hoped that this time she wouldn't wake up while she was being dragged to a prison cell.
