Author's Note: Sorry for how long it's been, I started a new job as a teacher and it has been insane. I'm hoping to get started back on rewriting this again this summer while the students are out. So since the wait was so long, here are two chapters for you.
P.S. think real hard if you want to be a teacher, cause I've never been cussed out by a four year old before and it was a trip. Especially since I couldn't do anything but tell him not to do that and his mom didn't care. So fun!
Chapter Five
*Earth, Olympus, Throne Room*
"Where is my daughter!" Poseidon roared causing the throne room to shake.
"No one knows, last time anyone saw or spoke to Percy, she was at Camp Half-Blood." Hermes declared going through all the messages sent in by Satyrs and Nymphs as they searched the world for their missing heroine, reporting each time they finished an area.
"Dionysus, where were you, it's your job to keep the demi-gods safe, you failed!" Poseidon hissed grabbing the wine god by his hair.
"It's not my job to keep the brats from wandering off! Once they pass the border, they're not my problem!" Dionysus yelled trying to free his hair.
"That is no excuse, I demand that I be allowed to handle this things punishment!"
Zeus tried in vain to clam his brother, and save his son at the same time. While it was strange and distressing that the Hero of Olympus was missing, there could be a reason behind it. She could be visiting her mortal family; the girl was very attached to her mother. But it was also apparent that his son needed another reminder on how to treat the demi-gods, but leaving him to Poseidon's tender mercies was too much. He might not get anything back if his brother had his way.
"Calm down Poseidon, your fit isn't going to solve anything." Hera snapped.
Growling Poseidon threw a sneer at his sister and continued to rage over his daughter's disappearance. Percy had vanished, she wasn't with Sally, she vanished under the watch of Chiron and Dionysus. He blamed them, there was another war on the horizon and his daughter was gone. She could have been taken, she could be hurt, held captive, in danger, or dying, and he was powerless to do anything.
"ENOUGH!"
The shout rendered all the Gods deaf for a few moments. They looked around and found a tall figure dressed in black armor standing next to a frozen Poseidon. Zeus summoned his lightening bolt, while his brother's tantrum was bothersome, he would allow no one to harm him.
"Sit down."
The second, softer voice only caused more alarm. Two unknown, powerful beings had entered the throne room of Olympus without anyone of the Gods sensing them. They tried to look towards the new voice and found themselves unable to more. A beautiful woman appeared next to the armored male, even looking at the two they still couldn't sense them, it was as though neither had any presence.
"Now, we are going to explain a few things to you and you are going to sit patiently while we do so. Once we are done you may ask your questions, politely." She explained as she forced each God and Goddess to sit back on their throne.
"I know most of you might have heard of me, but I will still introduce myself, just in case any of you have forgotten. I am Chaos, the first Primordial, I am the first and I will be the last. This lovely lady is the Primordial Goddess Nyx. We are the ones responsible for the disappearance of Persephone Jackson." Chaos announced vanishing his helmet.
"We needed her in another world, do not try to bring her back, you will not succeed and should you attempt to do so, you will be punished." Nyx added eyes several that were starting to protest.
"Please, Persephone is my daughter, my little girl, bring her back, I need her here, her mother Sally needs her here." Poseidon pleaded growing pale at the realization that his daughter was alone in another world, fighting alone, no allies to rely on and beyond his help.
Shaking his head, Chaos remained unmoved by the God's pleas. The work that Persephone was going to do in Thedas was too important. Besides none of the Olympians had the complete picture, they would only end up causing trouble, plus there was one very important factor. Persephone would never return to this world, but that didn't mean that the Gods couldn't visit, provided they played by the rules.
"Percy is now tied to her new world permanently, should she die, her soul would remain there. But we are not completely heartless, we will give you a way to contact her." Chaos proclaimed producing several ornate mirrors.
"These mirrors are tuned to Persephone; you can only contact her when she is awake. You cannot use them to watch her sleep, or bathe. Eventually you will be allowed to travel to Thedas, for a single day, so long as you follow the rules we set before you. Do not abuse this privilege." Nyx continued.
Poseidon snatched his mirror once he was able to move. Saying Percy's name, he watched the mirror mist over, but nothing else happened. Glaring at the Primordials, Poseidon called for his daughter again. Chaos and Nyx watched, amused, as Poseidon, God of the Seas, one of the strongest due to the size of his domain, was reduced to being an anxious parent.
"Why aren't the mirrors working?" Hermes asked, also watching Poseidon, but understanding better due to the hold Percy had on all of them.
"At the moment Persephone is not conscious, but she should wake up soon." Nyx replied.
"Why Percy though, she already did her part in the Second Titan War, she deserves peace." Artemis demanded.
"She is the only one that we can trust, she is a true hero, selfless, caring for those that are affected by war, and empathetic. She will help create a world where people are judged based on their actions, not their appearance." Chaos declared.
Eyes wide, Poseidon exchanged a worried glance with Hades, both brothers understanding that Percy was always willing to talk before fighting. She always strived for a non-violent solution, but often her enemies used that to their advantage. Her kindness had been used against her so many times, and it showed, she had withdrawn from all abut a select few. She didn't smile much anymore, didn't engage with others like she use to, and didn't sleep well, often walking or swimming late into the night.
"You're saying this might heal her?" Poseidon whispered, clutching the mirror as he thought back to the long nights of tears, screams, and nightmares as he tried to help his daughter heal.
"Maybe, she will have people around her that will protect and guide her as best they can. They will fight with her and for her. But they will not coddle her."
Hades put a comforting hand on his brother's shoulder and glared at the two Primordials. The pain and fear that followed Percy after the war had been a sore point for Poseidon, for the Sea God truly loved and cherished his daughter. He had brought her to Atlantis for healing and while the month-long visit had helped remove some shadows, it had not taken them all. Her nightmares still plagued her and her friends, his son Nico included, were affected as well.
"You said that we could visit, yes?" Hades inquired, bringing the attention back to some good news.
"Yes, once Percy is awake, we will finish stabilizing the connection and once that is done, we will be able to open a portal you can use." Nyx confirmed.
"But wouldn't the Gods of that world protest such visits. They may see these instances as an invasion." Athena pointed out.
"There is no longer a working Pantheon in that world. It once held three different groups, but one was locked away forever barred from returning. Another was tainted and twisted, they sleep deep beneath the Earth and when something wakes one, the world cried in fear." Nyx explained.
"What about the third group?" Aphrodite questioned softly.
"They have faded, their people long destroyed, there is no one alive that remembered them, to keep them from disappearing."
The Gods exchanged uneasy glances, for an entire Pantheon to fade. It was any deity's worst nightmare, but this group had lost all of their followers to death. The Greek Pantheon had been close to fading at one point, but there were always small groups that remembered, and their children helped keep them anchored. There were many Pantheons that had faded when their lands were invaded and their practices forbidden.
"Because there is no divine presence, that we can sense, there is no one to complain about you coming and going." Chaos tacked on.
"One final warning, while you are welcome to watch over Persephone through her trials. Do not think of interfering. Do not strike down her foes. Do not cause irreparable damage to anything she is working on." Nyx ordered before vanishing.
"Don't take her attitude to heart. Nyx is worried about how Persephone is going to be treated due to her heritage and status as a demi-god. I say get some things together that you want to send. These can be weapons, armor, gifts, or something you think she might need. Until we say otherwise, do not send people, animals, or people disguised as animals. They would only be in the way."
With that Chaos vanished, leaving behind a crowd of stunned, furious, and worried Olympians. Maybe once everything settled, they could send help, Poseidon was already choosing warriors that he could trust. But there were so many things that could go wrong while they waited. However, there was one thing he had to do immediately, and he was not looking forward to it.
"I have to tell Sally."
*Thedas, Haven, Percy's Cabin*
Percy groaned as she opened her eyes, blinking slowly as she stared straight up at the ceiling of what she assumed was her new prison. Thinking back, she remembered going through the valley, making her way to the Breach, the fight with that giant demon, using her abilities, and closing the rift. The strain of the whole affair must have been too much for her body to handle. Taking stock of her injuries, she knew a night resting in some water would help. It would be better if she had access to the sea, but she had no idea how far it was from her current location and she had no idea if they would even let her go.
A sudden crashing sound made her jolt and groan as her injuries protested the sudden movement. Looking over she noticed a young elven woman was staring at her with a mixture of awe and fear, Percy watched as the woman flung herself to the ground and pleaded for forgiveness. Snorting, Percy assured the girl that no harm had been done. Still trembling, the girl informed Percy that Cassandra was waiting for her at the Chantry and wanted to see her at once. She was still confused as the elven woman bolted from the room.
'Looks like it's time to face the music.'
Stumbling to her feet she looked down at the clothes she was currently wearing. Confused she stared for a few minutes, these didn't belong to her and she had definitely been wearing something else during the fight. So, who had changed her and where were her clothes! Shivering a bit at the thought of someone dressing and undressing her while she was unconscious, she prayed to the Gods it had been a female.
The sound of wind chimes caught her attention, turning around she found a large silver trunk sitting next to her bed. Examining the trunk, she noticed several symbols inscribed on it. Doves, roses, seashells, and sapphires. It belonged to Aphrodite, but why was it here and how did it get here? Lifting the lid Percy found clothes, clean clothes, lotion, shampoo, conditioner, face wash, and sanitary items.
Giddy Percy choose a soft, dark green cashmere dress and a pair of black leggings. Getting some more items she began to wash up in the small basin provided. Grunting as she worked through the knots tangling her hair, adding more detangling spray as needed. Once she was sure the knots were gone, she put her hair in a simple braid. Changing quickly, she pulled on some soft fur lined boots. Feeling better, and more human, she took a deep breath and threw open the door.
Standing outside her cabin was what appeared to the entirety of Haven, a wall of what looked like soldiers keeping everyone back and giving her a path to walk down. When they caught sight of her, some called out to her proclaiming her to be the Herald of Andraste, whoever that was. The sudden chance in attitude from wanting her dead to calling for her to bless them was making her dizzy. Was this sort of thing normal? How could they switch so fast? Maybe Cassandra could explain the sudden change.
Racing through the crowds, Percy ignored those who called out for her to stop. She followed the path laid out by the soldiers to the giant church structure, it seemed so out of place in such an isolated area. Maybe it was related to the temple that was destroyed. Casting a side eye to the multiple people dressed in red and white, she wondered briefly if they were part of the same group that guy on the bridge was apart of. Slipping past them without a word, she found herself in a deserted room, save for some distant yelling.
Recognizing Cassandra's voice, Percy decided to wait until the argument was over before entering the room. She didn't recognize the male voice; it didn't sound like either Solas or Varric. Maybe it was someone who had just arrived. Whoever it was, was calling for her immediate execution and getting pretty hostile about it. Rolling her eyes, she listened as the arguing died down and took it as her que to make an entrance.
'It's that guy from the bridge.' She thought laying her eyes on the occupants, only the fact that Cassandra and Leliana were there kept her from bolting.
"Arrest her, I want her prepared for travel to the capital immediately!" Roderick demanded, addressing two armored men she hadn't noticed.
"Leave us." Cassandra ordered, glaring at the older male, before facing Percy and giving her a small smile.
"You walk a fine line Seeker."
Watching Cassandra and the Chancellor start to argue again, Percy approached Leliana to watch the goings on from her side. Of the two women, Leliana seemed the more dangerous of the two and probably wouldn't hesitate to cut a bitch if she found it necessary.
"So, what is going on exactly?"
"It appears that those in and around Haven now view you as the Herald of Andraste because of your recent actions. The Chantry sees this as heretical and blasphemous; they want to execute you as an example to others that are breaking away."
"How long was I out for?"
"About three days, Solas was worried that all the stress involved with closing that rift had undone all the healing you had gone through."
Nodding, Percy watched as the Chancellor stormed off and Cassandra slumped in exhaustion. It appeared that this world greatly relied upon this one central institute to tell everyone what to do. seemed really similar to Earth. While it seemed like a good idea, in theory, it also meant that at its core there wasn't any room for something new to grow. Any institute, no matter what they say, becomes corrupt once it grows too large and it appeared that this Chantry had reached the breaking point.
"So, now what, what's the plan?" Percy inquired watching Cassandra pace back and forth.
"First, we send out messages, then we need to gain a foothold in the chaos going on. Without Chantry support it will be difficult, but not impossible." Leliana replied gazing down at the book Cassandra had slammed down earlier.
"We would like for you to be at the front of this, you bear the mark and only you can close the rifts." Cassandra added as she held out her hand.
"Well, I can honestly say I wasn't expecting this when I woke up, but I've had worse offers." Percy sighed shaking the older woman's hand.
Smiling Cassandra motioned for Percy to follow her and Leliana as she exited the War Room. They needed to gather the other advisors and begin to put their plan into action. Percy was excited to start learning about this new world and where they would be starting in trying to fix this whole mess. As they reached the doors leading out, a familiar voice caught her attention and made her perk up a bit.
Rushing past the confused women, Percy threw open the doors to reveal her uncle Zeus, standing outside the Chantry, glaring at the confused people that were gathered about. She was greatly confused as to why her uncle was here, at least not so soon. She wasn't exactly sure how long she had been in Thedas, but she was sure Chaos would have kept the Gods away for more than a couple of weeks. Maybe something had happened. Then again, this was Zeus, so who knows.
"Persephone, my dear niece, I am glad to see you well and unharmed." Zeus boomed pulling her into a surprise hug.
Stunned Percy returned the hug on reflex, greatly worried about his attitude. Zues had always regarded her as a worrisome existence due to her close friendship with multiple Gods and her willingness to speak her mind. It hadn't helped when she turned down the offer of godhood. She did welcome the familiar feeling of divine power wash over her. The people of Haven watched the two and talked in hushed voices, if she had to guess Zues had just appeared out of nowhere and knowing that they might accuse him of causing the explosion, Percy thought fast and decided sweet and diplomatic was the best way to go. Thalia would be proud of her progress.
"Lord Zeus, it is good to see you, I trust you and the others are well?" Percy inquired as she stepped back, giving the God a smile.
"Your father almost destroyed the throne room and killed Dionysus when you suddenly vanished. But Lord Chaos and Lady Nyx explained to everyone what had happened."
Percy could only blink some more at the news; she hadn't expected either of the Primordials to explain what was going on so soon and in person. She figured they would use a messenger and it would be a few months before they decided to let people know what was happening. Guess that explained the trunk from Aphrodite. Plus, her father's temper was pretty explosive, they probably went ahead of schedule to avoid any unnecessary death he might cause in his search.
"Excuse me, might I introduce myself, I am Sister Leliana, an advisor for the newly formed Inquisition." Leliana interjected, seeing an opening with the long silence.
"Oh, let me do the introductions. Everyone, I am honored to introduce to you Zeus, King of the Greek Gods, God of the Skies, Weather, Air, Lighting, Honor, and Justice. He is also my uncle, cause his brother is my dad." Percy rushed smiling at the crowd while twisting her fingers.
Silence reigned for a bit while everyone processed what she had just said. Percy threw a pleading glance to Leliana and Cassandra, but both seemed just as perplexed as the rest of the crowd. The Seeker did begin to step forward, before a woman in red and white began to hurl insults and accusations at Percy and Zeus. Wincing, Percy closed her eyes and sent up a small prayer that the woman's death would be quick and painless, because this woman was about to meet an enrage God in 3, 2…...
"SILENCE MORTAL!"
Zeus, enraged at the disrespect this woman was showing both him and the Champion of Olympus, grew rapidly until he was at least fifteen feet tall. Nowhere near the maximum height he could achieve, but enough to get his point across. He wanted to scare people, not crush them, not yet at least. Reaching down, he grabbed the offending human and held her high for all to see as he changed her form into that of a small red fox. If she wanted to scream, at least her form would be more pleasant to look at. He would give her to Percy as a pet.
"HEED MY WORDS! THE GIRL BEFORE YOU IS MY NIECE, THE DAUGHTER OF POSEIDON, THE HERO OF OLYMPUS, AND BELOVED BY MANY GODS. IF YOU VALUE YOUR LIVES, YOU WILL CEASE YOUR PITUFUL WHINING OR SUFFER THE SAME FATE AS THOSE BEFORE YOU!"
Casting a glare at all those gathered at his feet, Zeus allowed himself to shrink down to a normal human height. Looking to Percy, he found her face to be completely red, well the parts that he could see. She was covering her face with her hands, probably embarrassed, but she would eventually get over it.
"Now that I have everyone's attention, I want to warn all of you once again. If any harm comes to Persephone while she is in your care, and it could have been prevented, there will be no place in any world that you will be able to hide." Zeus warned, stressing the severity of his words, as he passed the fox over to his niece.
"Now, Persephone, I have brought armor, weapons, and several miscellaneous items. I know Aphrodite sent a trunk on her own, so this is from everyone else. Unfortunately, we cannot send you any aid beyond this. In time we might be able to send you warriors, or others to aid you in your journeys."
Waving his hand, Zeus materialized a large trunk and motioned for Percy to open it. Inside she found different types of armor, weapons, and Riptide. Lifting the sword, she grinned at the feeling of it connecting to her and humming slightly in the back of her mind. It glowed briefly before it formed into a seashell bracelet and fastened to her wrist. There were books, journals, some candles, more clothes, more hygiene products, and a large mirror left in the trunk. She would go through it later in her cabin.
"Thank you, Lord Zeus."
"I wish you luck in your upcoming battles, we know that you will bring honor to your family and the Gods. Should you ever need to talk to us, this mirror will allow you to contact whoever you want." Zeus instructed, giving the crowd one last glare before vanishing, leaving Percy behind to explain everything to everyone.
"So, um…. surprise?"
