It was the first day of actual classes. We had our base classes and now it was our first foundational hero studies class. I could tell most of the class was on edge with excitement.
"I am coming through the door like a normal person!" All Might announced, walking in with his silver age costume on.
"Normal people don't announce themselves," Mrs. Fukihara said, following in her costume as well. It was an old monk styled outfit with no sleeves and sock-like shoes. Her pants were loose but not baggy with elastic at the bottom to keep them against her legs.
"I can't believe All Might's going to be teaching us," one of my classmates whispered.
"Who's that lady though?" the cat-eared girl asked.
"While the oaf here doesn't need an introduction, I'm Nari Fukihara or Iron Sage," Mrs. Fukihara said.
"We will be whipping you into shape. Think of this as Heroics 101, today we will be doing battle training," All Might said, holding up a card with Battle on it.
"But, what fun would it be without these?" Mrs. Fukihara said, clicking a button and causing the wall to open as a bunch of numbered cases were revealed. "Take your case and go change. Meet us at Ground Beta. Hurry up," she added, as the two of them walked out.
I got up and grabbed my case and ran to the locker room. I started to change but took longer than expected as it was a little tighter and the padded armor was difficult to get properly placed. Eventually I got it all placed and walked out to see the rest of my classmates in their costumes. What surprised me was that the ten year old was wearing a chinese style martial art outfit.
"You all look like fine heroes in training," All Might said.
"But just because you look the part doesn't mean that you are heroes yet. Most of you are still level one, so let's get you some experience," she said, looking at us as if we were but newborn children to be formed into what she chose.
"Today you will be splitting up into teams of two to three and be randomly put up against another team. One group will be in a building hiding as villains with bomb while the others will be heroes. You win by either capturing the other team with this capture tape or the heroes touch the bomb," All Might said.
"There is a fifteen minute time limit that the villains win at the end. We'll draw lots for teams," Mrs. Fukihara said.
The board with the teams read:
A: Negi Springfield & Izuku Midoriya
B: Katsuki Bakugou, Rachel Roth, & Eijirou Kirishima
C: Setsuna Tokage & Blake Belladonna
D: Ruby Rose & Katherine Pryde
E: Mezo Shoji, Hanta Sero, & Fumikage Tokoyami
F: Shoto Todoroki , Rikado Satou, & Mashiro Ojiro
G: Ochako Uraraka, Koji Koda, & Denki Kaminari
H: Kyoka Jirou & Mina Ashido
"Alright, first up is team A as the heroes and team B as the villains," All Might announced.
"Team A come with me, team B you may enter the building," Mrs. Fukihara said.
"Everyone else come with me to the viewing room," All Might added, walking off.
"Alright, wait here until you get the all clear to enter," Mrs. Fukihara said, leading us to an adjacent building. "Oh, here's the layout too," she added, tossing us some blueprints.
"Alright, let's explain what our quirks are, Midoriya. Also, call me Negi as I'm from Whales and we use first names so it's weird being called by my last name," Negi said.
"Alright, well mine is a strength enhancer called Iron Will but I can push it further with True Will but that breaks my bones. I've also recently learned that I can turn into a slime form and then into different small creatures but I have to go slime in between transformations," I said.
"Cool, I have a 'magic' quirk. I can cast 'spells' that include light, lightning, ice, and a few other elements but those are my best ones. What do you know about the others?" Negi asked.
"Bakugou will come after me, I can tell you that. Roth had a 'magic' quirk too I believe. I don't know much about Kirishima. I think our best plan is for me to scout and find where they are and we ignore who we can on the way up. If I remember you can fly on your staff right?" I asked.
"Yeah, if we can get me to a nearby window we can quickly get to the bomb," Negi said, excited.
"Begin!" All Might announced.
"I'll be back," I said, jumping and turning into a slime.
I then turned into an ermine and crawled into the vent system. I crawled around until I found the bomb. It was on the third floor in the northwest corner. I slowly made my way back, noticing Bakugou was flying through the building by himself using his explosions. I also saw him checking his gauntlets. I made it back to Negi and changed back to slime and then me.
"That's cool,what do we know?"
"Kirishima and Roth are in the northwest room on the third floor with the bomb. Bakugou is flying through the other floors with his explosions. I don't think we can leave him be. I can deal with him if you can keep the others busy for a bit. If not we can try to just rush them and hope he can't get to us," I said.
"I can definitely keep them busy with some light clones. Let's go, we don't have much time to spare," Negi said, hopping on his staff and taking to the air.
I went in at the ground level and slowly headed up to the second level where he charged from behind a corner.
"Deku!" he yelled charging.
He's still going for the right hook to start, I thought, putting my arms up. "To think you would learn to start with something other than a right hook," I said, grabbing his arm.
"Huh?"
"All your fights start with a right hook followed by a kick," I said. "I've seen how you fight," I added, kicking him in the chest with an Iron Will charged kick.
"Damn it Deku! Were you messing with me the whole time?!" he asked, throwing two explosions at me.
"No, my quirk came in a few days before the exam," I said, using the force of a punch to throw one explosion away from me while the other singed my suit but I was safe. I then kicked him away from me. "I'm not going to lose," I added, jumping back.
"Damn it, at least I can end this quickly. If you know so much then you know how my quirk works. These gauntlets fill up with my sweat," he said, holding his right arm up.
"Young Bakugou don't," All Might warned.
"Don't worry, he'll live if he dodges," Bakugou sneered, pulling the pin causing a huge explosion.
"True Iron Smash!" I yelled, using True Will to fully reverse the explosion onto Bakugou.
"Fuck!" Bakugou yelled as the left gauntlet exploded from the first explosion.
As the smoke cleared both of our left arms were obviously burnt and broken. Bakugou was unconscious and I stood uneasily.
"Recovery Girl will make sure you're fine," I said, putting the capture tape on his right arm.
"Y-young Bakugou is captured," All Might announced.
I quickly made my way up to the third floor and found Negi with mimic versions of him made of light.
"Your magic isn't half bad," Roth said. "But mine is more powerful. Azarath Metrion Zinthos!" she announced as a wave of black energy shot out and destroyed his clones.
"Sorry about this!" Kirishima said, going to charge Negi.
"Not on my watch," I said, grabbing his arm that felt like a rock. I then flipped him using Iron Will in my arm to be strong enough to lift him.
"Quattuor sagittis fulgur!" Negi said, causing four lightning arrows to form and fly at Roth.
"Azarath Metrion Zinthos!" Roth yelled, causing a back shield to form.
"Negi, get the bomb!" I said, grabbing the cloak of the airborne dark mage and tossing her at Kirishima.
"On it," he said, running around my unaltered speed and putting his hand on the bomb.
"Heroes Win!" All Might exclaimed.
"How'd you move that fast?" I asked, looking at Negi.
"Silent enhancement on my body, just exhausts me quite a bit," he said, struggling to walk straight.
"I got you," I said, putting him on my back.
"Dang, that was manly," Kirishima said. "Too bad we lost."
"So be it, I am curious as to what that large explosion was," Roth said.
"Bakugou's gauntlets stored up his sweat and that's what causes the explosions. He shot one at me so I used True Will to send it back at him but it ignited his other one. Let's just say both of our arms aren't in the greatest shape," I said, motioning to my left arm.
"Holy crap, how are you still standing?" Kirishima asked.
"I've gained a tolerance of pain from getting hurt a lot as a kid," I said.
"You must be naturally strong if you can carry Negi with one arm," Roth pointed out.
"Well, that and he's just a ten year old kid," I said, as we got to the doors to the waiting room. "Um, can one of you?"
"I got you man," Kirishima said, opening it for me.
We walked in and I put the sleeping Negi on a chair in the room.
"Young Midoriya, you should go see Recovery Girl for your arm," All Might said.
"I'll be fine," I said.
"Go see the hag boy," Mrs. Fukihara said, looking at me.
"Alright," I said, walking out to the nurses office. I quickly changed before going to her office. I passed some students who gave me an odd look when they saw the state of my arm. A couple of girls, one with periwinkle hair and one with crimson hair, gave a look of amazement and interest respectively. I got to Recovery Girl's office and knocked.
"About time you got here. The oaf told me what you did when he sent me the first one," Recovery Girl said, opening the door. "Go sit on that bed," she said, pointing to the only one in her office.
"How is he?" I asked, sitting on the bed.
"He'll live, his arm will be scared but there won't be too much lasting damage. I can't believe they let him put those on his costume. I wrote an order removing them," she said.
"How bad was it?" I asked.
"If he had put his left arm up to block then it would've been worse and he might not have an arm, but he kept it down for better or for worse. You did nothing wrong, you kept yourself from being obliterated and his resistance to his own explosions kept his body from being burnt as bad as yours would've. His face will have a slight scar but it will be superficial. Now, it's just broken so I'm going to give you half a healing now and another tomorrow morning. Now get some rest," she said, kissing my forehead.
I laid down on the bed and closed my eyes. I opened them and felt groggy. I fell asleep. I realized.
"Good, you're awake. It's time for you to head home. One of your friends stayed to give you the work you missed," Recovery Girl said.
"Thanks," I said, getting up but feeling a shock of pain in my arm.
"Toss this on too," she added, tossing a sling at me.
"Yep," I groaned, putting it on with my unbroken arm. I walked out to see Negi sitting on a chair on the outside.
"Midoriya, how are you feeling?" Negi asked, looking at me.
"I've honestly felt worse and better," I admitted. "Why'd you stay behind?"
"I thought it would be better if you didn't have to stop at the room. I also grabbed your bag," he said, lifting the bag up.
"Thanks," I said, putting it on my right arm. "So, what did I miss?"
"Not much, just Mr. Aizawa said that we were doing something special in a few days for hero foundation," Negi said. "He said that we'll get more feedback tomorrow.
"Did any of our classmates have cool or interesting quirks?" I asked, walking towards the exit.
"Hmm, one girl split herself, another became intangible, and one of the boys called a dark creature out of himself," Negi said.
"Wow, that sounds amazing. I can't wait to see it myself," I sighed. "By the way, why are you flying, can't you get in trouble?"
"Oh, I got permission to fly on my wand outside of UA to practice my control over how much energy I use at once while also building it up," he explained. "Aizawa said that he would get Rachel and myself in contact with a third year student who isn't a hero student but is very talented with their style of magic quirk and see if we can learn any."
"I'm curious, what is it like having a magic quirk? Weren't they only discovered to exist a few years ago?" I asked.
"Technically they were discovered a while ago, they were just labeled under emitters but then they found a functional difference where emitters might require a push, magic quirks can be taught different techniques and are more versatile, the down side is that our body's normally aren't physically developed. My master taught me the body enhancement but it is too much at once for me to use so I limit it. All magic quirks fall under one of several categories. Arcane, divine, infernal, soul, and a few other exist. Mine is arcane but I learned from a soul quirk user," Negi explained. "While all are referred to as mages our styles give us different terms people call us. Soul mages are called sorcerers while arcane mages are wizards. Infernal users normally go by warlocks and divine call themselves clerics or priests but people are working on a different name as they sound too biblical and some worship other gods so they go by other names."
"Wow, that's a lot I didn't know about them," I said, scribbling everything down with my right hand while my left arm was stabilizing my notebook.
"If I didn't know better I would say you have a magic quirk. The issue with them is that you don't always know. For a long time I was thought to be quirkless, but then when I was five I discovered a book about a boy wizard and when I jokingly said an incantation I made my sister levitate. That's when my uncle got me a magic teacher, he said I was ready for more practical training if I wanted it and so gave me a recommendation."
"Yeah, my quirk didn't come in until a few days before the entrance exam. Everyone including my doctor thought I was quirkless," I sighed.
"Woah, do you know why it came in so late?" he asked, astonished.
"I think it was because my body wasn't strong enough to hold it. I didn't really start working out until ten months ago and I kinda went into overdrive to be able to make it without a quirk, but then it came in. The first time I went slime was after I punched a zero pointer and fell. I couldn't catch myself and I just felt something shift. I landed and then changed back before falling asleep from exertion," I said, trying to not breach the truth.
"Cool, how did you figure out the animals though?"
"Um, I was watching tv in slime form to get comfortable in it and saw a cat and was thinking how cool it would be to be a cat and bamf, I was a cat. I kinda figured the limit is a husky or german shepherd dog or a small wolf. I kinda learned a lot about small animals and made a list of what would be the best for quick changes," I said, scratching the back of my neck.
"That's amazing. I have a few incantations memorized but the rest are written on a small notebook I have that's been fire, water, everything proofed?" he said.
"How did you make it?" I asked.
"My master made it for me. He put the ones he was comfortable with me using without him there," Negi said.
"Alright, well here's my stop. See you tomorrow Negi," I said, waving.
"See you Midoriya," Negi said, waving back.
I walked the rest of the way home and made myself a small dinner before collapsing on my bed for a few minutes. I got up, went to my desk and got to work on the homework I was given. I finished it after a few hours then after a quick bath I went to sleep for the night. I opened my eyes and was in a dark area. It felt different compared to when I got the slime quirk.
"-zuku," a small voice called. "Izuku. Izuku. Izuku!" the voice yelled, getting louder and more frightened? Anxious? I couldn't tell. "Izuku! Help me, please," the voice pleaded before everything faded.
"Ah," I breathed in, waking up in a cold sweat as my alarm beeped. Who was that? Why did they sound familiar? I thought, shutting my alarm off.
I got around and after getting a quick breakfast made my way to UA. When I got on the train Negi was already on.
"How are you feeling?" Negi asked, looking at my arm.
"Recovery Girl said to visit her today to get it healed the rest of the way," I said.
We talked for a bit until we got off at UA. We started walking up but were stopped by a crowd of news reporters.
"H-how are we going to get through?" Negi asked.
"Hmm, you fly over the top and I'll sneak through," I said.
"Are you sure?"
"Positive," I said, going off to the side. I turned into a slime and then into a black cat. The odd part was that my left front paw was broken just like my arm and I had a bag on. Huh, that's interesting, I thought as I went between the reporter's and fellow student's legs. After I got a few yards in I ran into Mr. Aizawa and Present Mic. "Meow?" I asked, looking at them.
"How did a cat get past our security?" Present Mic asked.
I jumped up, turning into a slime mid-air and then myself. "Sorry, I didn't want to deal with the crowd," I said. "I need to go see Recovery Girl. See you in class," I said, heading off.
"Wow, I can't believe that worked. I didn't know your stuff stayed on you when you transformed," Negi said, landing next to me.
"Honestly it was a guess. I thought it all had to go somewhere so why shouldn't it work," I admitted.
"Wow, possibly risking your life with UA's security. Why do I get the feeling you'll do more stuff like this?" Negi asked.
"Blame my trainers. They gave me a major confidence boost over ten months. While I'm mostly confident on the outside there are times where I freaking out on the inside."
"Well, see you in class," he said, waving as he went to the classroom.
I made my way to Recovery Girl's office and knocked.
"About time you got here," she grumbled, ushering me in.
"Sorry, had some problems with the media at the entrance," I said.
"Alright, sit down and let's see," she said, walking to the bed. I sat down and took the sling off. "Hmm, alright you'll be fine with a small dose," she said, giving me a quick forehead kiss. "Now take these meds and try not to get hurt again, or at least make it something that I don't need to use my quirk with," she said, handing me a couple of pills and a cup of water.
"Thank you," I said, popping the pills in my mouth and downing them with the water. "Bleh, hate taking pills," I said, shaking my head.
"Then don't get hurt," she said, bopping me on the head with her cane/syringe.
"I make no promises I can not keep," I said.
"Eh, at least you're honest, now get to class," she said, going to her desk.
I walked towards the classroom and made my way to my desk. I noticed Bakugou was sitting at his desk with his arm in a sling andbandages wrapped around his forearm as well as a burn scar over his right eye. It looked like an explosion.
"Alright, quiet down. Midoriya, try not to hurt yourself again. Bakugou, control your anger," Mr. Aizawa said, walking in. "Now you need to pick a class president and vice president. I don't care who or how, just do it," he said, taking out his yellow sleeping bag and hopping in.
Everyone then exploded into say that it should be them.
"U-um," Negi said.
"Everyone quiet, Negi has an idea," I yelled.
"Thank you," Negi said. "Why don't we vote? Most people will probably vote for themselves but if someone gets more than one vote then more than one person trusts them."
"That sounds like a good idea," Tokage said.
After a few moments all the votes were counted.
"Huh?" I asked, standing at the front with Negi next to me. I got five votes and Negi got three.
"Alright, Midoriya's President and Negi is Vice President. Now let's get to class," Mr. Aizawa said.
We went through our classes with Midnight giving me an odd look during her class that I couldn't place. We then got to lunch. I sat with Negi, Rachel(she asked me to use her first name), and Jirou.
"So, you just learned about the slime part of your quirk?" Rachel asked.
"Yeah, I wasn't fully sure what it could do. Apparently certain things stay when I become an animal. For example, this morning to get past the media I became a cat and my left paw was broken and I had my bag on it was just miniature compared to normal," I explained.
"Ok, now that's just cool," Jirou said.
Alarms started going off and a panic set in.
"Someone's gotten through the barrier!" an older blonde student cried.
"Jaune, let's go," a tall red haired girl said, grabbing the boy with a sword at his side.
"Ow, hey," Jirou said, getting pushed by a bunch of people.
"Hey, Negi, Negi?" I yelled.
"Why is everyone panicking, it's just the media," Rachel said, pointing outside.
"They don't know, I'll be back," I said, charging Iron Will. I jumped to a ledge on top of the doors where everyone was bottled necked. "HEY! Aren't you meant to be a student of UA? This isn't how you should act! If you look outside it's just the media from this morning," I yelled.
The crowd slowly calmed down and the panicking stopped. I waited up there until I saw a clear spot to land. I leaped down and was approached by the boy from the entrance exam.
"Hello, I wanted to thank you for calming everyone down as well as apologize for my actions during the entrance exam," he said. "My name is Tenya Ilda from class 1-B," he said, doing a low bow.
"No need for that, I'm Izuku Midoriya, President of Class 1-A," I said, getting used to my title.
"I can see why you were named president of your class, I hope to see you again some time Midoriya," he said, walking off with a wave.
I made my way back to our table where everyone including Negi was waiting.
"Thank you, I was trapped and couldn't get in the air," Negi said gratefully, his cheeks slightly tinted red.
"No problem, to be honest I was freaking out on the inside talking to everyone at once like that," I said sheepishly.
"Really, but you seemed so confident," Rachel said monotone.
"Let's just say I'm still getting used to my confidence. I honestly still don't fully feel all that confident," I said. "I just kinda, put on an act and fake it till I make it," I added, scratching the back of my head.
"Why aren't you confident with a quirk like your's," Jirou said.
"Well, the truth is that my quirk didn't come in until a few days before the entrance exam. I grew up thinking I was quirkless."
"Wait, you were planning on taking the entrance exam without a quirk?" she deadpanned.
"Um, yes?"
"That takes a lot of guts dude," she said, amazed.
"Why didn't it appear before then?" Rachel asked.
"I think it has to do with my body not being able to handle it. I didn't seriously work out until ten months before the exam. Two small-time heroes kinda helped push it into overdrive and I cleaned Dagobah beach. Being around two heroes kinda boosted my confidence enough to the point where I wasn't a stuttering mess on the outside. But the inside is a different story," I said.
"Wow, that's impressive," Rachel said in her usual monotone voice.
"Let's finish and get to class," I said, getting back to eating my food.
AN-
So, a bit more story and some changes. I'm amazed that in the show Bakugou's gauntlets never get destroyed with some of his bigger explosions and he doesn't get hurt. I thought of this while helping my friend write their first fic (yay!) and was helping them with figuring out dialog during a battle they were having issues with and they wrote that the explosion hit the gauntlet and I asked if anything would happen to it and we went into an in depth discussion deciding that it would be possible with a bigger explosion. Also a bit more on a fourth type of quirk in addition to emitter, transformation, and mutations; magic quirks! This will become a major point in a later arc but that will be after the USJ and before the Sports Festival that I am adding. Next chapter will be most if not all of the USJ and 90% if not all will be from Izuku's POV but I might add another's at the end but it will be the end of the first major arc: Origins. There will be a minor arc or it might be the first chapter of the Sports Festival & Hero Killer Arc(I can't come up with a good name for it yet). Also, give me any characters you want to make a cameo as either a student or hero as I am starting to add some in later chapters and this chapter. Also, enjoy this little bit from Negi's POV. This will be a small thing I do at the end of some chapters.
Negi POV-
"Midoriya!" I called looking for my friends. Ugh, why do I have to be so small? I can't take off with so many people around.
"Oof," a voice grunted as I was pushed into someone.
"S-sorry," I said, turning to see that I was pushed into a girl with purple hair covering her face and a book in her arm. She was standing next to a girl with long bluish purple hair.
"I-it's fine," she said.
"Nodoka, are you alright?" the other girl asked.
"Y-yeah, h-he just b-bumped into me s-slightly Yue," the first girl said.
"HEY! Aren't you meant to be a student of UA? This isn't how you should act! If you look outside it's just the media from this morning," I heard Midoriya yell.
There was a murmur as people realized this and went back to lunch.
"S-sorry again," I apologized, going to where I saw Rachel and Jirou. Why is my face heating up?
