A/N: Ahh! Tell me why I got so happy when I got my first review…

alerion baskerville: Thank you so much for the review! Chapters have been slow recently because I have summer school and trips planned–but dw because a new chapter is here!

I've been wanting to make these chapters a bit longer because there is so much I wanna fit into one–everything is planned out (as sad as that sounds) so things will start picking up from here.

There has been a lack of Akashi moments recently… that sucks so I'm starting this off with… AKASHI! YAY! I know y'all love him as much as I do, right?!

Also, if you haven't noticed… this is sort of a slow paced AkaKuro– BUT! It's definitely picking up from this chapter onward… I promise!

Fyi, the beginning of this chapter is a 'continuation' of the end of last chapter– I'm sure y'all are smart enough to know that already tho!

"The Kuroko family, huh?" a man in his late-thirties was sitting at a posh-looking dining table, layered with fresh traditional japanese cuisine and beverages. He had a small smirk on his face despite his brows furrowed in uncertainty.

"Is something the matter, otou-san?" Akashi walked into the room, uniform clean; no wrinkles to be found. He looked perfect, as usual.

The man briefly acknowledged his son before focusing back on the newspaper. "Nothing of importance, Seijuro. You should eat, you are wasting precious time." The younger redhead simply nodded before taking a seat.

The two ate in silence, the sounds of utensils hitting glass was the only thing heard. The maids and butlers stood by the table, ready to take any finished plates.

As Akashi finished, he rose from his seat before quickly heading for the door. A mumbled, "I'll take my leave now… otou-san." was heard before the door slammed shut. The older Akashi sighed before setting down the newspaper.

"I know Seijuro-sama asked already… but is something wrong, Akashi-sama?" Masaomi glanced at the butler genially before standing. "It's a business matter. Nothing you need to concern yourselves with." The response received a curt nod before the butler excused himself to the kitchen.

Making his way out of the dining room, Masaomi let a small smirk form on his lips. It appears he will be making some pretty important phone calls this morning.

As the younger Akashi exited the mansion, he gave a dismissive shake of his hand toward another butler; signalling him away. He had already told them of his dislike of such high-class transportation. His father kept pestering him on it, but he always refused.

Instead, he opted for walking. Akashi didn't live too far from the school, but it was still a good 15 minute walk. He didn't mind it, though. It would help increase his stamina; even by a little bit.

If he was 'lucky', he'd run into Midorima or Murasakibara on the way. Despite the green-head's odd oha-asa obsession and Murasakibara's food compulsion, Akashi would conclude that those two were their favorites out of their 'group'. Kise was loud and obnoxious while Aomine was self-centered and lazy.

Aside from that, they were exceptional players so he found no need to be rid of them. Speaking of basketball, Akashi had to think of a training regime for them this summer. The break was coming up in a few weeks so time was limited. Finals were coming close too…

Shrugging, Akashi threw those thoughts to the back of his mind. He could always think about it later. He was sure that a plan would come to him sooner or later. He was an Akashi after all. Astuteness came easily to them.

Arriving at school (and not having seen Midorima or Murasakibara), Akashi started off toward his first period class. He was sure to see the moss-head there anyways.

However, as he turned around the corner, he was greeted by the sight of Aomine and… – Kuroko? – 'surrounded' by three second-year students. He instantly recognized them. They were on the basketball team; Akashi had over-head the coach threatening to kick them off if they didn't get their grades up before the upcoming break.

No wonder… Akashi was fully aware of the tutoring Aomine was receiving from the smaller blunette, but he didn't think anyone else knew. He should have expected this.

Glancing around, the redhead saw multiple students watching the scene, not doing anything. To be fair, Akashi hadn't done anything either, whether he wanted to see how Aomine would react or how this would all pan out was a mystery.

Akashi heard the blonde male scoff, however he heard the slightest hint of resignation in it.

"Fine, whatever. Heed my words, you will regret this!" From his position, Akashi couldn't see the five very well but he noticed the slight shift in Aomine's stature – as if he got closer to the opposing three.

"Let's see how the couch... or better yet... the captain reacts to your little display today. Imagine the amount of training- or wait! He might even kick you off!" Akashi could have laughed at that statement. Of course Aomine would drag him into this. He had to give him props tho – it was a pragmatic comeback.

Though, Akashi wouldn't get involved unless absolutely necessary. It doesn't seem as if anyone was injured so there was no need for his interference.

The redhead felt a smirk grow as the three teens squeaked out an apology before taking off down the hall. Aomine had some guts, he'll give him that.

In his opinion, those three weren't useful to the team so if Aomine wanted them kicked off, he'd gladly comply. Though at the moment, that didn't seem critical.

Deciding to wait around the corner as the remaining two got their stuff, Akashi started off towards class again once the two were out of sight.

What a strange morning…

As he reached his class, Akashi did a terse inspection of the hall, just barely catching a glimpse of Aomine as he turned a corner. Smirking to himself, the redhead pushed his classroom door open before instantaneously approaching the pale-blue haired teen.

Kuroko peered up at the captain from behind his book. To anyone else, it would seem Kuroko looked simply impassive, but to Akashi, he could make out the irritation laced behind those sky-blue eyes.

"Hello, Tetsuya." Said blunette cleared his throat before enhancing his posture. "Is there something I can do for you, Akashi-kun?"

"I just so happen to see your little… display this morning. I hope you aren't causing any trouble for my teammates." Akashi crossed his arms over his chest domineeringly, that all too familiar smirk still present on his face. Kuroko held in a groan. Of course Akashi saw that.

Slamming his book close gently, Kuroko turned slightly in his seat. "No, that was nothing," the teal-head answered simply. Akashi wasn't convinced. Reasons being: one – he saw the incident – two – Kuroko wasn't a very good liar.

"Hmm… Are you lying?" Akashi taunted, playing dumb. Though, he knew from his tone that Kuroko would catch on immediately.

"It certainly wasn't an issue concerning you, so… no, I'm not lying." Kuroko felt his patience wearing thin. Akashi always found a way to grate on his nerves. Did he perhaps see this morning's events; is that why he's bothering him so much?

Ugh… Great.

At that moment, a certain oha-asa fanatic decided to make an appearance. He immediately sensed the tension coming from his captain and new-found 'friend' (not that he'd ever admit that aloud).

Inwardly sighing, Midorima padded toward the duo, placing a hand on Akashi's shoulder. "Is there an issue here?" Where was this confidence coming from? He's never questioned Akashi on anything!

"Ah, Shintarou… There is no problem, I was simply having a courtly conversation with Tetsuya here," the redhead had that same blank yet wily look on his face and Midorima felt himself pale slightly.

"Of course, good morning Akashi, Kuroko." He received a nod from the redhead and a small 'Good morning, Midorima-kun' from the blunette.

Content with those responses, Midorima sauntered over to his desk, taking a seat before eyeing the shorter duo, restlessly. He's noticed the strain between them for a while now… for what reason, he was unsure of.

Last he checked, those two barely talked. Akashi never talked about Kuroko when Aomine and Kise were rambling about him, so what was the issue? Did they not like each other? Or… did they like each other…? Midorima almost blushed at the thought.

No. Absolutely impossible. Akashi's never shown interest in anyone... Well like that anyways. Midorima concluded in his thoughts.

Shaking his head to clear his mind, he started grabbing out his textbooks. He might as well ignore it; their issues weren't any of his business anyways.

Akashi watched as the shooting guard took his seat before giving Kuroko another smirk and following suit. Kuroko vaguely kept up his nonchalant facade as he focused back on his book.

xXx

"Daiki, I would like to speak to you about something," said male froze before slowly turning to face the redhead. "Y-yes..?"

"I happened to see your little incident with a few second-years this morning… What was that about?" Akashi questioned, rephrasing what he had said to the blunette earlier that morning. Aomine felt a sweatdrop as he scratched his neck sheepishly.

"O-oh, you saw that..?" Aomine was inwardly cursing himself for making such a scene. Right now, Akashi didn't look amused which meant the teen was planning Aomine's murder or surpressing his diversion.

The navy-head watched as Akashi gave a small nod, ushering him to continue. Concealing the squeak that wanted to escape, Aomine hurriedly explained the scene, not adding too much detail on the 'Kuroko' bit. He knew of the pale boy's dislike of the redhead, he wasn't gonna outwardly give Akashi something to tease Kuroko about.

Finishing his tale, Akashi simply looked casual about it, having just given another nod before heading to the changing room. Aomine in tow… yet slower.

The annoying blonde (well, in Aomine's opinion) appeared beside the ganguro, looking uncharacteristically worried. "Something happened to Kurokocchi?" Aomine would have ignored him but…

"Yeah. Some guys tried bribing him into tutoring them. They must have overheard us talking about it during practice or somethin'." Kise's frown deepened, maring his usually handsome – cheerful – face.

"Bribing him with what..?" Kise wasn't too sure he wanted to hear the result considering how hesitant Aomine was in answering. The copycat watched as Aomine paused in his step before leaning over and whispering into his ear. He couldn't have been more shocked…

"Sex…"

As Aomine backed up, he was shocked to see the blonde's expression had shifted from shocked to angry. He's never seen Kise like this. The model always tried to keep a happy facade up but now… "Kise?"

"Who was it?"

"H-huh?" Aomine asked stupidly.

"Who were the guys that dared to threaten Kurokocchi?" Aomine would have responded if a voice hadn't cut him off.

"Oho~ Ryouta's angry? How funny~" a gray-haired male with cornrows and a nasty smirk said, leaning his back against the wall. "Lose another girlfriend?"

Aomine almost groaned. "Leave Kise alone you bastard, this is none of your business, anyways!" Haizaki raised his hands in mock surrender. "My bad! What seems to have your twos' panties in a twist?"

"Well, Aominecchi. Who was it?" Kise repeated his question, either having ignored or not noticed the gray-haired teen. Aomine's shocked expression arose again. Was Kise that pissed off?

"Not sure, too many faces on the team for me to remember exactly what their names were… but I can point them out to you if I see–"

"That won't be necessary."

Aomine and Kise flinched at the sudden voice, snapping their heads toward their captain. "A-akashicchi… You don't understand–"

"I understand plenty. Those three will be kicked off the team for harassing a student. We don't know what they could do in the future, keeping them would be counterproductive," Akashi replied matter-of-factly, leaving no room for question. Aomine and Kise nodded; though the blonde still felt angry.

"Oh! I see, so a friend of yours was harassed today, huh? Well, that sucks," Haizaki barked out a laugh before storming into the changing room. "I'm sure you two couldn't have done anything anyways."

The last statement was barely audible but Aomine definitely caught it. "What did you say you–"

"Daiki, change, then practice. Understand me?"

The tan-teen was reluctant but made his way into the changing room, regardless of his inbound objection to it. Kise followed silently, mentally killing whoever those bastards were. He and Kuroko may not have been friends for long, but he cared about him deeply. More than anyone else.

Akashi watched the two go with a frown. Haizaki's attitude was getting out of hand… and Kise? What was his problem? Kuroko may have been pestered a bit – but that was no reason to get enraged over. Kuroko wasn't hurt and Aomine seemed fine. So what was it..?

Perhaps there is more to the story... Akashi reflected in his mind. Whatever it was, he'd find out eventually.

"Ne~ Aka-chin, are we doing a lot of work today? I'm feeling tired~" Murasakibara came up beside the redhead, chip bag in hand as he munched away 10 per bite. Akashi gave him a look and the purplenette downed the whole bag before heading to the locker room–no questions asked.

Soon, the other members started filing in, immediately following suit of the purple-head after seeing their captain all ready to go. Once everyone finished, Akashi explained their training regime; the same one they'd be continuing until the National Sports meet and Winter Cup.

Obviously, some things would need adapting depending on the players' growth, but for now, everything was staying dupe.

"Summer is coming quickly and finals are approaching, I expect every single one of you to pass–otherwise you know the results…" a series of gulps were heard throughout the crowd of teens. "We shall endure the same amount of training for the next few weeks; extra practice is appreciated. You all will do your best and be the best of the best. I accept nothing short of perfection. Remember Teiko's number one rule… win at all costs. Do you all understand me?"

"Hai!"

"Good." Akashi smirked noblely, content with how easy it was to captain such an elite team. There were the few strays who tended to roughhouse and be boorish–but they were exceptional players. He had no place to complain. "Dismissed."

Speaking of 'strays'... Heterochromatic eyes raked throughout the reeling teens as they quickly found their owner's targets. Found you.

"Ogawa, Abe, Okada, I need to speak with you." The offending teens flinched before dropping their basketballs and heading straight to their captain. "Y-yes?"

"From this point on, you three are dislodged from the team. If you'd prefer, I would accept it if you quit right now. I don't prohibit hound behavior and you three have shown me quite a… display of such," Akashi directed with a firm narrowing of centromeric orbs.

"W-wait what? We didn't do shit! What the hell are you talking about?" the blonde male exclaimed, taking a few steps closer to the redhead. Akashi refrained from rolling his eyes. That would be ill-bred, and he was nothing of the sort.

"I see and know everything, you cannot hide anything from me. How about we ask Daiki, I'm sure he'd be more than pleased to explain things," Akashi suggested with a slight smirk. Got them.

The brunette male swallowed nervous spit as he placed a hand on the blonde's shoulder. "H-hey dude, let's just go. I quit!" – and he was gone in a flash with the other two following shortly after. Akashi watched impassively before focusing back on practice. Those three learned their lesson; he was sure of it.

"Akashi."

Green orbs met red and gold as the owner slowly approached the captain. "What was that about? You aren't the type to randomly kick out players–nanodayo." Akashi chuckled softly. "Observant as ever, Shintarou."

"Not observant, just attentive." Midorima readjusted his glasses before narrowing his eyes. "You still haven't answered my question." The president averted his attention toward his team before answering after a few moments. "It's not important. They were simply worthless." – with that, he snatched a ball off the floor and padded toward the court. "Don't worry yourself with people like that, Shintarou. It could ruin you."

Green eyes watched the captain leave as he released an exhale. Akashi has – and always will be – an enigma (at least to him). Midorima could never tell what he was thinking; Akashi was above them all in intellect and power. There was no point in questioning him.

The Oha-Asa fanatic shook his head frivolously before joining his team on the court. Thinking too hard would make him stir-crazy–practice is what's important right now.

"Tadaima."

"Ah! Tetsuya, okaeri! How was school?"

The male-blunette sighed in relief as he dropped his heavy school bag on the living room floor. That thing is gonna mess up his shoulders in the future–he just knew it! After slipping off his shoes and placing them neatly on the rack, Kuroko faced his grandmother who was sitting contently on the couch.

"Ran into a bit of trouble this morning, but otherwise good." Kuroko decided to keep this morning's incidents to himself. There was no need to worry his oba-san with something so trivial… especially if no one was injured.

"You weren't hurt, were you dear?" Tame asked, looking up from the novel she was currently reading. Kuroko shook his head. "No, of course not."

"That's good to hear."

Sensing the conversation was over, Kuroko gathered all his homework from his school bag and approached the vacant dining table. "I'll be in the kitchen if you need me."

"Alright."

The teal-head dropped his things before slumping down into a seat. Today was tiring, that's for sure. All day, he's been thinking back to this morning's 'events'. He's never experienced such… vulgar people in his life. People usually ignored or didn't notice him (with his low-presence and all).

Kuroko was a relatively cautious person–he liked to people-watch. It was better for him if he knew who and when to avoid something. But today… things got a bit out of hand and now most of the first and second years were talking about him.

Well, maybe not him in general–but he could hear the whispers from people passing by and the murmurs from his classmates. People were talking about that. It bugged him; more than bugged him.

He preferred staying hidden and unnoticed. No drama, fights, or arguments. Things need to be peaceful for him to even think straight. And today..? Nothing about today was peaceful.

"I'm so glad it's the weekend…"

"Did you say something?"

Kuroko snapped his head up, blue eyes immediately focusing on his obaasan who was still in the living room reading. "No, nothing." Not even waiting for a reply, Kuroko busied himself with his work, deciding to sleep the rest of the day away after finishing.

About an hour passed before Tame entered the kitchen, watching her grandson half-heartedly reading a novel. The boy's sky-blue eyes appeared distant, as if he wasn't actually paying attention to the book yet still reading it.

"Tetsuya." Kuroko jolted at the sudden voice, looking up at Tame nonchalantly. He recovered from the shock rather quickly. "Yes, obaasan?"

"You look distracted… Are you sure you're alright?" A matching pair of blue eyes watched the teen nod his head with a small smile. "I'm alright, I swear."

"If you're sure…"

Kuroko focused back on his book for a second before shutting it close and cleaning up his stuff. After everything was neatly put away in his book-bag, he looked back at his obaasan who had taken a seat while he was busy. "Want me to make you something to eat? I'm not a good cook, but I can make something simple if you'd like."

Tame made a ghost of a smile with a small nod. "That would be nice. Thank you."

"Any preferences?"

"Not at all. Anything you make would be wonderful."

Kuroko chuckled softly while shaking his head disbelievingly. His grandmother sure had a charming side… if only his grandfather was still here to see her living such a carefree life.

"How does tofu miso soup sound?" It was a bit too hot for soup but it was basically the only thing he could make besides boiled eggs. Hearing a 'that's fine' from his obaasan gave the confirmation that he needed as he left toward the kitchen.

It didn't take him too long– after about 30 or so minutes, the soup was done and ready to be served. Hastedly snatching a few bowls and filling them with the stew, Kuroko approached the dining table before placing down the bowls. "Here you go."

"Arigatou."

Kuroko took a seat across from Tame before they both said their thanks and began eating. "So what did you do all day today, obaasan?" Kuroko asked as he blew softly on the soup. Tame drank a sip before offering another smile. "Not much. I sat around and read most of the time, did a few tidying up here and there. You are surprisingly clean for a boy your age."

Blue orbs rolled yet the owner had an amused grin planted across his face. "I wouldn't call it surprising. I just don't wanna die in my own filth." Tame barked out a laugh. "Of course, of course."

The two finished their meals in a comfortable silence: Kuroko washed the dishes while Tame wiped off the table. They made a surprisingly good cleaning duo.

Once all the dishes were put away, Kuroko stretched his arms above his head earning a satisfying 'pop'. It has been quite an eventful day, he could use some sleep.

Making his way back toward the dining table, Kuroko pulled his book bag over his shoulder. "Alright obaasan, I think I'm gonna hit the hay. I'm extremely tired from today." Tame gave a curt nod. "Wakarimashita."

Kuroko dropped his bag back onto the living room floor just as he settled down on the couch. It wasn't the most comfortable, but it worked. His grandmother was worth it anyway.

It felt like he had just shut his eyes when the sound of the doorbell shook him from his sleep. Groaning rather loudly, Kuroko rose to his feet (he was almost positive he looked like a zombie; bed hair and all) before whipping the door open.

"Hel–"

"Are you Kuroko Tetsuya?"

The blunette blinked his tired eyes a couple times before slowly nodding. "Yes..?"

The opposing male released a sigh of relief as he leaned on the door frame rather gruffly. "Thank goodness! I've been trying to contact you for ages!" Kuroko tilted his head slightly yet his face remained passive.

"Do I know you?" The man paused for a second before proffering a friendly smile. "I apologize. Let me introduce myself."

The male stood to full height before placing a hand over his chest. "My name is Nash and I worked with your parents." – the blonde male bowed slightly and Kuroko raised a fine eyebrow. "You should know my parents aren't home right now. I apologize for the inconvenience."

Nash laughed woefully, rubbing his nape. "Actually… that's what I wanted to talk to you about." Kuroko's eyes narrowed in suspicion. "You said you 'worked' with them, right? Did you get fired… quit?" The blunette knew he was being rude but this man was raising too many red-flags. He was always cautious.

"No no, nothing like that. Um… there is something I'd like to discuss with you. Do you mind if I come inside?" Kuroko glanced behind him, searching for his obaasan who didn't appear to be awake just yet. Sighing, Kuroko opened the door wider.

"Alright, but only for a bit. My obaasan wouldn't be very happy with visitors so early in the morning," Kuroko said as he closed the door after the man entered. "We can talk on the couch."

The two stalked toward the living room (Kuroko cleaning up his blankets and pillows) before plopping down on the couches. "So, what is it you'd like to say?" Blue eyes observed the blonde in front of him. The male was tall – much taller than himself – with messy gold hair and piercing green eyes. He was fitted in a black blazer and slacks; ones much too imperious in such heat. And he appeared to be in his mid-twenties (at least that's what Kuroko assumed).

Nash sighed, leaning back in his seat while folding his arms across his chest. "How long have your parents been away on business? Or at least how long do you remember them being gone?" Kuroko looked thoughtful for a second before saying, "About 3 months… I think."

"That's what I was afraid of…" The statement was murmured but Kuroko caught it–just barely. "What do you mean?"

Nash leaned forward slightly, leaning his elbows on his knees while lacing his hands together. "And you haven't heard anything from them these last few months?" He grimaced when the blunette shook his head, confirming his notions.

"What about rent–they pay for this apartment, am I right? Has any bills come claiming the rent is overdue?" Kuroko curled another eyebrow before shaking his head again. "No, none of the sort."

There was silence for a couple minutes; Nash emerged in thought while Kuroko watched him carefully. After five minutes passed, Kuroko was sick of the stifle. "What is this about?" Nash winced having been pulled from his inner turmoil at the sudden voice.

Gaining his bearings, Nash pulled out an envelope from his pocket as he slid it across the 'coffee-table' toward the blunette. "This is for next month's rent. I have a feeling you're gonna need it."

"And why is that?" Kuroko didn't take the money, let alone look at it. He didn't need this stranger's help– what was he even getting help for? The apartment is being paid for by his parents. Fair, he hasn't gotten any allowance money this past month, but that doesn't mean he is impotent.

"Your parents are Akiko and Hakaru Kuroko, right?"

"Yes..?"

The man looked distressed again before releasing another exhale. "I don't know how to say this gently… but it's best if you are told. I'm sorry to say this but your parents ha–"

"Tetsuya! Who is this man?" Kuroko's head snapped toward the small flight of stairs, instantly setting sights on his obaasan who looked tired yet... frightened? Kuroko shook his head slightly to clear his mind.

"He said his name is Nash and he works with otou-san and oka-san," Kuroko explained, gesturing a hand toward the blonde. The older blunette narrowed her eyes in mistrust as she approached the two seated males. "I think you should leave."

Green eyes widened for the slightest second before he glared at the woman. "You haven't told him yet… have you?"

"That is none of your business or concern, leave this house at once!" Kuroko was startled at the sudden outcry. He has never seen his obaasan so angry, so... upset. "Obaas–"

"Quiet child! This is a conversation for the adults," Tame hushed, irking the younger teal-head. Kuroko snapped up from his seat with a frown. "What has gotten into you? This is a guest, you should show a little more respect, mind my manners."

Tame sent a quick glare at her grandson before her face softened at the sight of his lour. Feeling lament, she sighed and took a seat beside the blunette. "I apologize. It must be too early for me."

Nash crossed his arms again as he averted his attention back toward the male-blunette. "I believe your grandmother has something she'd like to tell you." Kuroko took his seat, turning toward his obaasan inquiringly. "Hai?"

Tame ran a hand down her wrinkled face while evening out her breathing. "Tetsuya… there is something I've been needing to tell you for some time now."

Now Kuroko was straight-out curious and rather anxious. His obaasan looked stressed and Nash looked mournful yet sympathetic. Something was definitely going on under his knowledge. "And what would that be?"

"Before I say anything else… I have to say sorry. I'm truly, truly sorry for keeping this from you. I really hope you won't hate me after," Tame held her grandson's hands gently, caressing his palms with her thumbs. "I'm sorry."

"Obaasan… I could never hate you. Whatever it is, I'm sure it's not as bad as you think," Kuroko assured with a soft smile. Oh goodness, Tame felt even more ashamed now. That smile… her grandson's precious smile. Was she going to be the reason it disappeared?

"Tetsuya, your parents… they passed away a month ago. It appears they were in a horrible car crash and by the time help arrived, they had already… died. The reason I moved in with you was because the house they were paying for me to live in–the rent was overdue and I couldn't afford the payment. You were the only person I could come to at the time… I'm sorry. I'm so so sorry…" Tame gazed into her grandson's wide, distraught eyes. The light seemed to drain from the sky-blue orbs and his skin seemed paler than it already was.

Nash sat quietly, hands laced together over his lap. He was sort of glad he wasn't the one to deliver the news… however it didn't make the scene any less painful to watch. "I think you both need some time… I'll dismiss myself. Thank you for your time."

The blonde left but neither blunettes paid him any mind. Kuroko seemed lost in thought while Tame looked close to tears.

The death of her daughter was traumatizing–heartbreaking even. When she first heard the news she was ready to march her way to the crime scene and find whoever that son-of-a bitch was that had been so recklessly driving. However, she opted for curling up in bed and crying herself to sleep. It was such a childish thing to do; but could you blame her? Her only child had died before she could even say goodbye. A truly distressing thought.

Now though, Tame sat in front of her grandson who hadn't said a word in over 10 minutes. Feeling sick of the silence, Tame opened her mouth to speak before Kuroko's hushed words cut her off.

"How long have you known..?" Tame didn't respond which seemed to irritate Kuroko further. "How long have you known?!" Kuroko repeated, albeit louder.

"A-about three weeks… I'm sorry, Tetsuya. I truly am," Tame answered, averting her gaze when those teal-eyes seemed to narrow further. The older blunette heard Kuroko release a shaky exhale and his hands seemed a bit clammy.

Slowly, the blunette moved his hands away from his obaasan before swiftly pulling her into a hug. Tame was surprised for a few moments before her confined tears started spilling over her pale, old cheeks. "Oh Tetsuya…"

"It's gonna be alright… We're gonna be alright…" His words were quiet yet it sounded like he was reassuring himself more than her. Tame wrapped her arms around the teen tightly. "You can stay here as long as you need. I would never be mad at you for something like this… I can understand why you kept it from me for so long, you needed your own time for grief."

Kuroko could feel his grandmother's tears wetting his shoulder along with her suppressed hiccups and sobs. He patted her back delicately. "I'm here and I always will be. I promise."

The blunette felt Tame nod as he closed his eyes, holding back his tears. He didn't have time to cry. He needed to be there for his grandmother and protect her. He was sad of course… probably more miserable than ever–but his obaasan was more important than his own feelings. He was never the type to wallow his emotions onto someone else, afraid it would bother them. He'd rather be alone when expressing his feelings.

Tame pulled away sluggishly, placing a hand on Kuroko's cheek. "You need time to grieve as well. Don't keep in your emotions like this, it's not good for you. I know you're an altruistic boy who wants to convince everyone that you're void of emotion, but Tetsuya… you are only human. You feel things just as everyone else. Promise me you will keep living the same as you always have. Keep being that caring and smart young boy I know you are." Kuroko gulped, repressing his tears a bit more.

"I promise." Tame smiled sadly, kissing Kuroko on the forehead tenderly. "Arigatou."

After calming down a bit, Kuroko fell asleep on the couch again – he was woken at seven that morning, after all – while Tame prepped a small breakfast for herself. After eating rather slowly, she strolled toward the small restroom, washing her face and freshening up a bit.

Once back in the living room, Tame inspected the sleeping male as she pulled the blanket over him more. "I'm sorry, Tetsuya. I really am…" she whispered to the blunette feebly. Patting his shoulder gently, she grabbed her novel from yesterday before taking a seat on the couch opposite of him.

She's had almost a month to mourn, however Kuroko would take a lot longer than her. She was an old hag, after all. Kuroko was a young boy–he needed his parents. At her age, she wouldn't be able to work, so it'd be up to him to find a job (no matter how much she despised the idea) just so they could keep afloat. Thankfully, that man had given them enough for another month's rent, however, that wouldn't last long.

All she hoped for was a happy Tetsuya. She doesn't want to see the boy she loves more than anyone, fall into a depressed, dejected state to the point of defeat. He has so much more potential than that. He was a kind boy – no matter how nonchalant he appears – he cares for everyone, mostly for the people he is close with. He is selfless and benevolent… something she hopes never changes.

Eventually, the evening rolled around and Kuroko was still asleep. His back faced her so she wasn't sure if he was asleep or pretending. Although, after today's news, she couldn't blame him for not having the energy to get up. She'd give him his time to deplore.

Just as she was about to head upstairs, she saw a slight shift in the blunette's – previously – motionless form. Kuroko rose to a sitting position, rubbing his forehead indifferently. After a second, he gazed toward his grandmother, offering a miniscule smile. "Good… evening obaasan."

Tame smiled dismally in return, approaching the groggy teen. "How did you sleep? Are you feeling alright?"

"Hai."

"That's good to hear." Tame looked out the window, seeing the sun setting slowly in the distance. "It's a bit late, but you haven't eaten anything all day. Let me make you something, alright?"

Kuroko nodded slowly. "Sure…" Tame gave an appreciative smile, walking to the kitchen speedily. She'd make him something good. A full stomach relieves heartache–at least that's what she's heard.

Reheating the left-over miso soup, Tame added a bit of rice to it and a couple soft-boiled eggs before heading back to the quiet – awaiting – teen. Nearing the living room, Tame noticed Kuroko sitting on the couch observing the multiple item frames hung on the wall. She frowned as she placed the soup on the table in front of him.

"Here you go, eat it quickly before it gets cold."

Kuroko nodded, dazedly examining the soup before him. Finding it edible, the teal-head picked up the bowl before taking a spoon-full of it and cooling it down with his breath. "Arigatou, obaasan."

"Itadakimasu…"

Tame took a seat opposite of Kuroko, leaning her cheek on her hand. "It was no problem."

It took Kuroko quite some time to finish the bowl (Tame urged him to eat the whole thing) but he eventually did and was now sitting on the couch, observing the photo frames again. Tame had just come back from washing the dishes when she saw him. She watched her grandson with sad teal-eyes.

"Tetsuya," Tame said, getting the teen's attention. "How about you sleep in your room tonight, I'll be fine out here." Kuroko looked ready to object before Tame raised an authoritative hand. "No refusal. Go. Now."

The teal-head sighed defeatedly, rising to his feet and walking toward the stairs. "Alright, good night obaasan."

"Goodnight Tetsuya."

After shutting his door closed, Kuroko raced toward his bed before flopping down hard on it. He grabbed one of his pillows, hugging it tightly to his chest. A stream of tears escaped his tired sky-blue eyes as he silently sobbed himself to sleep.

Despite sleeping most the day, he was still exhausted. Everything seemed dull… lifeless. At first, he thought he could handle this. The pain of losing his parents… but now – he wasn't so sure.

How am I going to live without them? – was his last thought before drifting into the land of nightmares.

It seemed that Kuroko had caught a fever the next morning. Tame had come upstairs to wake the boy up for a light breakfast when she noticed the puffy eyes and sweat dripping down his pale face.

She hurriedly grabbed a bowl of cool water and a towel to cool him off but he ushered it aside stubbornly. Saying things like, "I'm not sick," or "I'm fine." She knew he wasn't fine.

He eventually gave in, feeling absolutely drained and feeble. Everything was a blur and he felt both hot and cold. Luckily he didn't have to throw up yet...

The fever lasted a few days because Tame couldn't get him the proper medicine. They had a low budget and spending unwisely would be rash. It wasn't a high fever so Kuroko was feeling better around Tuesday, however Tame suggested he stay home one more day to ensure he's well.

Aomine and Kise stopped by on Monday – Kise more worried than ever after seeing Kuroko in bed with a towel over his forehead looking close to death. Aomine looked restless and refused to leave Kuroko's side until Kise dragged him away.

Aomine brought as much of Kuroko's homework home as he could. Even skipping practice both Monday and Tuesday to come take care of him. Kuroko was thankful, but he wasn't dying; he could take care of himself perfectly fine. Not to mention, his grandmother was there as well.

On Wednesday, Tame gave her consent to let him go back to school, much to his gratitude. Aomine and Kise arrived at his house early that morning, offering to walk him there – mostly to watch after him in case he collapsed.

"Eto, Kurokocchi… are you sure you're alright. You've been unusually quiet…" Kise piped in feeling slightly unnerved with the silence surrounding the three. Kuroko was always quiet, but today seemed… different.

A doleful aura surrounded the blunette as he walked with his head down, easily avoiding any eye contact. It just caused more worry to build up inside the blonde. "Do you still not feel well? We can take you back hom–"

"I'm fine, Kise-kun."

Kise didn't look convinced but shrugged nonetheless. "If you say so…"

Aomine glanced between the two, walking a little ways behind in case Kuroko faints. He had noticed the slouch in the teal-head's shoulders and the way he would mumble his speech, yet didn't think it was important to mention. It seemed Kise noticed it as well, though.

The trio was silent as they entered Teiko High, promptly exchanging brief farewells before heading to their respective classes. Aomine took it upon himself to walk Kuroko to class – Kise's being on the other side of the school so it would be a waste of time.

"Thank you for walking me to class, Aomine-kun," Kuroko acknowledged just as they approached his classroom. We gave a small wave over his shoulder before rushing through the door. Aomine had barely gotten a 'bye' out before the door slammed shut.

Shoving his hands in his pockets, Aomine took off toward his class. He could tell Kuroko didn't want to talk about what was bothering him, so he'd leave him be for now. He could always ask Kuroko about it when the blunette seemed more like himself.

As Kuroko entered the class, he felt multiple pairs of eyes glance at him before their owners resumed their 'chats' and work. It was odd having people look at him in such a way. He was always unnoticed, even when entering class, however now…

Kuroko sighed as he slumped down into his seat, he glanced out the window watching the birds fly around the trees, chirping and living life freely. Oh how he wished to be a bird at that moment. To feel no pain, no heartache. Fly around the world and do whatever he'd like. Be free and jovial to his heart's content.

Kuroko crossed his arms over his desk, resting his head in the crook of his elbows. He felt tired– drained even. He has done nothing but sleep these last few days yet here he was, worn out and stale.

Finals were coming up next week so he better get his act together. It wouldn't do him any good if he failed because of something as insignificant as sleep. Kuroko desperately needed a break but school was important. Once the break came–he was gonna sleep and do whatever he wanted.

Or wait...

Now that his parents are… gone, does that mean he's gonna have to get a job? There is no way they can afford that apartment with only the check that Nash guy provided. And there was no way in hell he was gonna allow his grandmother to work. She served her time, she needs to relax and take it easy for the rest of her short life.

Kuroko inwardly groaned. Where was he even gonna get a job? Who would hire a first-year high school student with no work experience or knowledge. This was gonna be harder than he first expected.

"Ah Tetsuya… I need to speak to you about something." Kuroko let out a leveled exhale, peeking up from his arms at the all too familiar redhead. "I'm not in the mood, please leave me be."

"Are you the reason Daiki and Ryouta have missed practice these last couple days?" Akashi questioned, blatantly ignoring the blunette's statement. Kuroko sat up, kneading his temples in an attempt to calm his raging headache. "I didn't tell them to skip, they did that on their own accord. Don't blame me for that."

Akashi quirked a brow. "Oh really? And why did they skip?"

Kuroko shrugged idly, resting his cheek on his palm. "I was sick, so they offered to take my homework home along with helping me with my illness. I refused but you should know how stubborn they are."

Not even waiting for a response, Kuroko dropped his head back between his folded arms. "Now please leave me alone. I'm tired and cranky–something I know you'd despide dealing with." Akashi smirked amusedly while shaking his head. The two of them might not get along but Kuroko was surely too blunt for his own good. It was almost astonishing.

Kuroko heard the patter of feet as the redhead left toward his own desk. He was relieved Akashi didn't start something this early in the morning; he was most definitely not in the mood.

After class, Kuroko stayed behind a couple minutes to explain his absence to the teacher, requesting extra work to make up for his inadequacy. It would also do him good considering finals were approaching rather quickly.

Kuroko rushed to the library (he was told that Riko had already collected the books that morning) prepared for a much needed nap.

He slept through most of the second period, only waking when the third-period committee member shook him awake, before begrudgingly heading for his next class. Lunch approached, in his opinion, much slower than usual.

Arriving at the cafeteria, Kuroko found an empty table before dropping his body into the seat–basically hugging the table. Aomine soon came, a tray of food in his hands; Kise followed shortly after.

"Hey Tetsu, I see you're the same as usual," Aomine jokes, taking the seat beside Kuroko. Kise took the seat across from the blunette, poking his arm playfully. "Kurokocchi, you are hogging the table."

Kuroko pulled his arms back toward his body, he sat upright looking something akin to miffed. "Jeez, what's got you all daft?"

"That's a big word for you, Aomine-kun."

"Oi!"

Kise laughed not so quietly before offering a soothing smile. "I'm glad you are feeling well enough to make fun of Aominecchi at least." The darker blunette sent Kise a pointed look, almost a glare.

"I don't know what you mean. I've been feeling fine all day, Kise-kun." Of course that was a lie. A horribly told lie.

"Sure." Aomine rolled his eyes, merrily bumping shoulders with the tealnette. "Has anyone ever told you that you're a terrible liar, Tetsu?" Blue eyes remained monotone, however there was a small glint in them.

"I am an amazing liar, Aomine-kun," Kuroko quipped sarcastically. He wasn't feeling the best but he could at least lighten the mood a bit. He was quite the debby-downer that morning. His friends shouldn't have had to see him in such a state. How pathetic.

"Whatever you say."

The three ate their meals in a comfortable silence – with the exception of a few 'arguments' here and there. Kuroko was glad to have such caring and humorous friends. They didn't pressure him to talk, just accepted him as he was. He was incredibly thankful.

Lunch soon ended, same with the rest of his classes. His spirits were lifted a bit, but he still felt… sad? No. He didn't feel sad. Regretful? Gloomy? He wasn't completely sure.

There was a series of emotions flowing through him at that moment and he couldn't comprehend them all at once. All he needed was a break.

Before Kise and Aomine left for practice, Kuroko informed them that he was feeling a bit under the weather and wouldn't be waiting for them after they were done. The two agreed reluctantly, telling Kuroko to get home quickly and safely before taking off toward the gym.

In all honesty, Kuroko was feeling fine–at least physically wise. He wanted to go around town and search for a job as quickly as possible. It's best to get that handled before rent comes and they end up losing the apartment. Then they'd have nowhere to go.

Maybe he was being paranoid, but you couldn't blame him. Anything could happen in the next few days; it's better to be safe rather than sorry.

It wasn't too late so Kuroko stopped by a few convenience and grocery stores on the way home, however none of them gave any confirmation. Their reasons being – one: they had too many people – two: he was 'too young'.

Exiting the fourth store, he took a moment to lean on a pillar before taking a deep breath. Things were not going how he wanted so far.

"Hey kid, you looking for a job?" Kuroko snapped his head toward the young, male voice. The teen looked about his age. Dark gray hair formed cornrows matched with a… – Teiko?! – uniform. The male was definitely taller than him and looked admittedly terrifying. He emitted a spine-chilling aura.

"Yes..?"

The dark-haired male rose a brow, examining the blunette conspicuously. "How old are you, anyways? I have a feeling I know why they didn't hire you. You look like a middle schooler."

Kuroko felt his brow twitch in annoyance. "I am in highschool, for your information and it appears we go to the same one. Just look at our uniforms." Kuroko lifted the chest area slightly, showing the Teiko symbol. Gray eyebrows rose at the revelation.

"Oh shit! I didn't even notice." The teen laughed loudly. "So you go to Teiko, huh? Don't think I've ever seen you around before." Kuroko retained a nonchalant expression, not feeling the need to express anything more. "It appears so."

There was silence for a couple minutes and Kuroko started feeling uncomfortable. "Well if you have nothing else to say, I shall be off. Have a nice night," the blunette bowed, turning away.

Just as he was about to take a step, the male's voice caused him to pause. "If you want, I can offer you a job with my gang. I'm sure they'd be more than happy to accept you."

Kuroko considered it, but decided against it. He didn't want to be part of any 'gang', especially this teen's gang. Something about him didn't sit right with the blunette. "No thanks, I'll manage on my own."

The gray-haired teen simply shrugged, shoving his hands down his pockets. "Whatever man. I was actually being considerate for once and that person turned me down. Tch, what a shame." Kuroko would have felt bad if it wasn't for the smirk growing on the opposing teens face.

Kuroko quickly took off toward his home, not wanting to anger the other teenn further. Once inside, Kuroko quickly took off his shoes before greeting his obaasan in the kitchen.

They ate dinner and Kuroko slumped onto the couch with a sigh of relief. His back was hurting all day and he had the biggest headache. Too many things were happening at once.

xXx

"Tetsuya, it's time to wake up." Tame gently shook Kuroko's sleeping figure. She had just finished making a small breakfast for the two of them and was now focused on waking her slumbering grandchild.

Kuroko slowly stirred awake, with the exception of a few hand slaps here and there. He rose to a sitting position, rubbing his eyes tiredly. "I'm awake~"

Tame held in a laugh at her grandson's comeliness. "I can see that. Come on, let's go eat and you need to get ready for school." Kuroko nodded lazily, seemingly half-asleep. "Alright."

The blunette excused himself to the washroom – rinsing his face along with brushing his teeth – before taking a seat at the table. "Itadakimasu!" The two ate cozily, Kuroko felt more awake now that he's had cold water splashed on his face.

Finishing up, Kuroko offered to do the dishes while his grandmother washed a few clothes. Kuroko quickly finished, rushing into his room to grab a new uniform and change. Trampling down the stairs, Kuroko snatched his book-bag before saying a swift 'good-bye' and exiting the home.

He raced to the school, a book in his hand. He enjoyed reading while walking to school – mostly because there was nothing better to do. He slammed the book shut as he neared the highschool, briskly shoving it into his bag and storming toward his locker.

Turning the corner, Kuroko felt a body collide with his own and he fell to the ground with a thud. "Itai…"

"Getting in my way again, Tetsuya?" the well-known voice had Kuroko jumping to his feet in an instance, blue eyes clashed with red and gold in a harsh glare. "A 'sorry' would be nice. Mind your manners, Akashi-kun."

"I'm almost positive we've had this conversation before… don't you think? Haven't I told you already that I don't condone the weak? You should be apologizing to me," Akashi reprimanded, hands placed jeeringly on his hips. Kuroko almost sneered.

"I see you're the same as always, Akashi-kun. Condescending and arrogant." At this point, Kuroko didn't care that he was being rude. This is a more than frequent event now, he was used to speaking to the 'great and powerful' Akashi in such a way.

He could sense the peering eyes of his schoolmates but didn't heed them any mind. This was an interaction between him and Akashi only. No one else had to get involved, unless things got out of hand.

"I would say more superb rather than 'arrogant'. Arrogant people are weak, they feel the need to express talents they believe are superior to others in order to make themselves feel better. I am exceptional in every way possible–nothing stands in my way because I eliminate anything inadequate. No one exceeds me," Akashi countered with his usual eminent speech. Kuroko was sick of this ruse. The asshole needed to be brought down a peg or two.

"I don't believe you are as 'amazing' as you think. I'm sure there is someone out there much more excellent than yourself–don't get all cocky now. You wouldn't want to seem like those 'weak and arrogant' chumps," Kuroko retorted, arms crossed across his chest. Heterochromatic eyes narrowed devilishly.

"It appears you have been sheltered too long, Tetsuya. I feel you need a lesson on how to speak to someone of higher rank than you. You should respect the prestige." Now, Akashi was plainly pissed. Kuroko was speaking to him as if he was some spoiled child needing a sermon. Akashi has worked too hard to get where he was to have someone of such inferior stature tell him off in such a manner. Kuroko would regret mocking him.

"'Higher rank'? Puh-lease, you have no right to say that when we are both still highschool students. You may come from a well-endowed family, but that makes you no better than me. We are both human and almost the same age. Nothing about us is superior in any way and thinking like that is satirical." Kuroko smirked after seeing Akashi's face twist in anger. He was finally getting somewhere.

After a few seconds, Akashi smirked, red and gold eyes glinting in amusement. "You sure have guts. How interesting~" Kuroko remained indifferent.

"I can see why Daiki and Ryouta hang around you so much. So feisty yet calm and collected. Being on the receiving end of that fire is grueling, although humoring. You truly are something else, Tetsuya." Kuroko didn't know how to respond; his blue eyes stared holes into the redhead's immutable expression.

A loud screech of the bell knocked Kuroko from his pensive mood. He glanced toward the ceiling before averting his attention back toward the captain. Akashi's smirk grew after seeing Kuroko's muddle.

"Come, join me to class. We are going to the same place, anyways," Akashi offered, giving no room for argument as he turned toward the direction of their math period. Kuroko froze for a second before rushing toward the redhead.

"So you start an argument with me just to be nice again? What is with you? It's like you are two-faced…" Kuroko mumbled the last part, hoping Akashi wouldn't catch it–however he did.

"You wound me, Tetsuya," Akashi replied teasingly, much to Kuroko's dismay.

Kuroko could still feel the eyes of other students watching them walk off and he started feeling a bit uneasy. Now he was gonna be the center of attention… and not the good kind! He was gonna be known as that one quiet yet uncouthful person that dared speak to Akashi – of all people – in such a boorish way. Just great…

Good thing Kuroko had taken his books home with him the previous night and didn't have to stop at his locker to get his things. Then he'd be late and that wouldn't be good for his image. Well, it's not like the teacher would notice, anyways.

Kuroko and Akashi walked in an awkward (at least for Kuroko) silence. The captain certainly had a striking aura surrounding him while Kuroko looked down-right bland. You could definitely sense the difference in 'power' between the two.

As they arrived at their class, Akashi opened the door beckoning Kuroko first – much to his annoyance. Resentfully, Kuroko strode into the classroom, hearing Akashi's footsteps following in tow.

Other students started filing into the room as well just as Kuroko took his seat. A few whispers were heard here and there causing the blunette to drop his head between folded arms. He peeked toward the redhead, finding him unperturbed by the whispers and pestering glances.

Damn him!

Teal eyes rolled exasperatedly while the owner covered his afflicted ears. Things couldn't possibly get any worse…

xXx

"What is Midorima-kun doing here?" Kuroko asked, taking a seat on the floor of the roof they were currently occupying. Not only was the greenette there, Momoi and Murasakibara were sitting next to him eating their lunches happily. It was quite the sight to see the giant purple-head looking completely blissful while eating his bento.

During his second period, Kuroko had gotten a text from Kise telling him to meet them on the roof for lunch instead of their usual place in the cafeteria. He obliged… involuntarily.

Midorima pushed his glasses higher on the bridge of his nose with a grunt. "This is where we usually eat lunch. Kise and Aomine haven't been present recently considering they've been hanging out with you." Kuroko didn't know whether to feel offended or guilty. Was he taking Aomine and Kise from their friends..?

"Don't say it like that, idiot. You're making Tetsu feel bad!" Aomine slapped the back of Midorima's head iratedly. The megane shot him a glare. "Don't do that–nanodayo."

"Mido-chin is mean~" Murasakibara piped in, shoving a maiubo bar into his mouth. Kuroko would have cringed if he was ill-mannered.

"Don't talk with food in your mouth!" Midorima scolded, waving a… – small crab toy? – in the air. Aomine laughed after seeing the item. "What the fuck is that?"

"It's my lucky item for today–nanodayo. Got a problem with it?" Aomine shook his hands in defense. "Nah man, you can get off to whatever you want… be that Oha-Asa or your lucky items… I'll keep enjoying my Mai-chan~"

Kuroko watched as Midorima's face turned bright red. "Idiot! Don't compare me to your repulsive nature!" the greenette screeched.

"Dai-chan, no one wants to hear about your pervert magazines…" Momoi complained, closing her bento box. Aomine shot her a look. "They aren't perverted–I just appreciate life's greatest gifts… big boobs!"

"Aominecchi is a pervert…"

"Shut it Kise!"

"So what exactly did you want me here for, Kise-kun? Is there something you needed to tell me?" Kuroko asked, hoping to redirect the subject. Luckily it worked when Kise grinned gaily.

"Actually yes! Momoicchi and I have been planning something for quite some time now and we wanted to reveal it all to you as one!" Momoi jumped up in excitement, leaning an arm on the model's shoulder. "Yes! Yes! Wait… should we wait for Akashi-kun?"

"I'm already here." Almost everyone jumped when their redheaded captain appeared at the roof doors, he held a small bento box with his ever-present smirk laced across his face. "Is there something you wanted to say?"

Kuroko narrowed his eyes at the redhead. What was he? Kuroko? Only Kuroko was allowed to scare people with his low-presence–no one else!

"Ah! Akashi-kun, come, come! Sit down! Ki-chan and I have some news to tell you all!" Akashi obeyed, taking a seat beside Kuroko tauntingly, irking the blunette.

Kise and Momoi exchanged a look before they both exclaimed loudly, "We got an RV!"

There was silence for a few seconds and Kise felt a sweat drop down his face. "No reaction? Seriously?"

Midorima sighed, hand placed delicately on his forehead. "If you'd explain better, maybe we'd have one." Murasakibara nodded in agreement.

Kise pouted, looking at Momoi for help. Thankfully, she was more than happy to clarify. "So~ We were thinking that during this month's break… we could all plan a trip together! Y'know, the seven of us! It would be super fun!"

Aomine looked thoughtful for a second before shrugging. "I don't mind, it could actually be kind of nice."

"I don't kn–"

"I think it's a great idea." Green eyes stared incredulously at the owner's redheaded captain, wanting a thorough explanation. Akashi caught the gaze and his smirk widened. "It would be nice for the… seven of us to bond. I could include some extra training as well during this 'vacation'."

Aomine clicked his tongue. "This is a vacation! That means relaxation. No. Training."

"Do I need to double your practice before this 'vacation' then, Daiki?" Akashi threatened, smiling all-too innocently causing Aomine to sweat-drop. "N-no."

"Good."

"You spoke about a 'trip', but where exactly were you planning to go? Someplace outside of Tokyo?" Kuroko asked a more logical question, mostly because if he was gonna go–he'd need to know how far away from grandmother he was gonna be.

Kise shrugged, glancing at Momoi again. "Have any suggestions, Momoicchi?"

Raising a hand to her chin, Momoi thought of multiple travel ideas however nothing seemed pleasurable. Going anywhere other than Tokyo could be fun, however they'd need to rent a hotel or something…

"How about camping?" Everyone's eyes shot toward Akashi who had a hand raised in askance.

"Camping? Like in the woods..?" Kise pursed his lips together in distaste. He was a model, outdoorsy things weren't really his thing. Akashi sighed quietly.

"My family has a vacation home out toward Aokigahara forest. We could stay there in an attempt to avoid any futile expenses," Akashi suggested, much to Momoi's appreciation. That idea wasn't half bad.

"I think that's a great idea, Akashi-kun!" Momoi exclaimed, hugging the redhead before pulling out her phone. "What's the address?" Akashi gave the terse location before another thought plagued his mind. Before he could speak it, however, Midorima chose that moment to pipe in.

"I don't mind the idea… but how exactly will we get there? None of us can drive the RV. Mind you, we are merely first-year high school students."

Akashi considered his options before concluding on one. "I can hire one of my butlers to drive us there. It would be unwise to keep a camper unoccupied while staying at the family home so I would suggest he can take it back to Ryouta's home after dropping us off. I'll contact him a day in advance on when to pick us up." Mostly everyone nodded in agreement.

"So… is everyone down?" Kise asked, more than excited for his, much needed, holiday. Luckily, he didn't have any shoots coming up, so he would be free for most of the break.

"Let's plan the date before confirming anything. We all need to make sure we're free," Midorima petitioned, causing Kuroko to nod in agreement as well. "Midorima-kun is right."

"Well, considering the break begins the 24th… how about the monday after? We could go for two to three weeks, estimating... we will return on the 8th," Akashi concluded.

Kuroko looked hesitant for a moment. Two to three weeks? He would be gone and away from his grandmother for that long… Why were they inviting him anyway? He barely knew half of them and rarely got along with their captain. Why him?

"I don't see why not. This could be good for us… like Akashi said before," Aomine replied, crossing his arms behind his head, using them as a pillow as he lay down on the floor.

"I agree with Aominecchi! I want to go on vacation so badly along with all of you!" Kise hollered, crying comical tears. Momoi giggled at his silliness. "I also agree with Dai-chan and Ki-chan."

Akashi glanced at Midorima, silently telling him to answer. The bespectacled male sighed before nodding. "I suppose I could tag along, but I'm not doing this for any of you. I am only coming because I would like a relaxing vacation." Kise and Momoi laughed at the tsundere response.

"I'll go since Aka-chin is going," Murasakibara replied simply, licking his fingers of any crumb remains. Akashi looked proud. Too proud…

"I suppose that settles it th–"

"Actually, I don't think I'm gonna go."

Aomine jolted upright, staring at Kuroko bemusedly. "What?! Tetsu, you have to go!" Kise blinked his eyes a couple times before jumping toward the blunette. "It won't be any fun without you, Kurokocchi! Please come along! I know you don't know everyone very well but you could! Three weeks is more than enough time to bond and get to know them!"

Kuroko cringed seeing their dejected miens. "No, it's not that. It's just… I have to take care of my obaasan. I can't leave her alone for too long, y'know?" Kise deflated a bit after hearing that response.

"You mean Tame? The lady we met when we came over?" Kuroko nodded. "Yes, that was my obaasan."

"What about your parents? They can't watch her?" Midorima intercepted, readjusting his glasses again. Kuroko grimaced at those words. "N-no, they can't."

"B-but… Kurokocchi please~ How about we ask Tame-san? I'm sure she'd want you to have fun with friends! She seemed very capable and well on her own," Kise suggested, albeit a bit rudely. Kuroko shook his head. "I don't think so."

Aomine averted his gaze in thought. That was a good idea. He was almost positive Tame would allow Kuroko to go. She seemed very healthy and strong. She would be fine for a few weeks. Okay–maybe he was being coarse but he truly wanted Kuroko to join them. It wouldn't be fun without him.

"Drop it, Kise. I'll ask her myself tomorrow."

"Aomine-kun!"

The ganguro glanced at the blunette apathetically. "You ain't changing my mind, Tetsu."

"Y-you– I-I–" Kuroko started, stammering. "Absolutely not! Even if she agrees, I wouldn't leave her side!"

"You must have a close bond with her, huh Tetsuya?" Akashi questioned after being silent throughout most of the ordeal. Kuroko would have glared at him if not for the multiple people surrounding them. Instead, chose to merely glance at him. "You could say that."

"I want Kuro-chin to go~" Murasakibara looked something akin to crestfallen. Even though he hasn't known the blunette long, he still found him enjoyable to be around. Not to mention, Kuroko always gave him good snacks.

"Alright enough, this is Kuroko's decision. What he says, goes. Alright?" Midorima snapped, green eyes raking throughout the collection of rainbow haired teens. Aomine scoffed, laying back down on his makeshift pillow (arms).

Kise released the blunette before pouting and crossing his arms childishly. Kuroko almost sighed. "I'm sorry, Kise-kun."

"It's okay, Kurokocchi. I'm not mad at you, just… sad you aren't coming." Kuroko's eyes saddened at the sight of the doleful blonde. He patted the golden hair softly, smiling. "I'll take you somewhere nice before you guys leave."

Kise seemed to beam after hearing that statement. "Alright!" Kuroko laughed quietly.

Akashi watched the interaction unfold with unreadable eyes. Kuroko has wormed himself into the hearts of his teammates in a matter of months (at least with Aomine and Kise). Murasakibara has already warmed up to him and he could tell Midorima didn't mind his presence.

Kuroko truly was a mystery to him. He was tempted to find more out, but decided against it… for now at least. Around him, Kuroko was brash and rude but around everyone else, he was kind and generous.

Perhaps Akashi rubbed him the wrong way–that's why he gets such a reaction. Fair, whenever he talks with Kuroko, he calls him out on his insignificance and tends to be haughty – but could you blame him.

Kuroko tended to rub him the wrong way at times as well. However, after seeing such a display… his views have definitely changed a bit.

How interesting…

A/N: A bit of angst... bet you didn't see that coming! HA! Y'all probably don't even care LMAO.

Look at that- a long chapter? Wow! You guys deserve it–ya'll have been so patient with me and I'm extremely grateful. I apologize if the story has been a bit boring... let me explain. So what I meant by: "Everything is planned out" is that (as said before) this whole story is 'written'–or more like summarized in a separate google doc. I have everything set in stone however the beginning of the story and how things will pick up has been a little on the... indecisive side. But I'm pretty sure I'm content with how this story is going so far... Yeah!

I used a few japanese kana in the story- most of you probably understand or looked it up, but if not then I'll give a brief overview.

Obaasan: Grandmother.

Tadaima: I'm home/I'm back.

Okaeri: Welcome home/welcome back.

Arigatou: Thank you.

Wakarimashita: I understand.

Eto: Umm…

Pshh and yes... there is a lot of OOC but that happens in Fanfics so deal with it :P – Anyways, thank you for reading! New chapter is coming soon! Don't forget to review!
