"Oof," I grunted being thrown to the side for the fourth time today.
"Not bad, I actually had to try this time," Nari said.
"You got this Izumi!" Hina said from the padded side of Gym Omega.
"Agh!" I screamed charging Nari, activating a venom tendril.
"Woah, I thought I said no quirks," she said, parrying it with one of her own.
"AHHHH!" I yelled, throwing caution to the wind. Must win, must win, must win, must win.
"Izumi, what are you doing?" a voice asked from the side.
"While I like the enthusiasm, let's knock it back a couple of levels," my target said.
"ARGH!" I grunted as a fist hit my face. "HAH!" I proclaimed, grabbing the fist. I pulled it towards me and looked up to catch my prize just as an elbow followed by a fist hit my face.
"Izumi!" the side voice yelled as my vision faded to black.
I opened my eyes to see what has become a familiar sight.
"Nari you buffoon, you could've seriously hurt her," Recovery Girl exclaimed.
"But I didn't, and you saw it too, something's different," Nari said.
"I'll give you that, I have a theory, but let's ask her," Recovery Girl said as I sat up.
"Why does my head feel like it's pounding?" I asked.
"What's the last thing you remember?" Nari asked, looking at me.
"We were sparring in Gym Omega and I got thrown against the wall before I don't remember," I said, my head getting fuzzy.
"You went, for lack of a better term, feral. Your eyes also shifted color and you gained, well, I'll just show you," Nari said, grabbing a mirror.
"What?" I asked, looking at my now red iris and the two fangs on my top row of teeth. "How did this happen? Hero's Will?" I questioned.
"No, there is not a quirk that causes changes like this to happen," Nari said.
"I do have a theory, it could be that your quirk was locked by your genetics being male, but when they changed to female it unlocked," Recovery Girl explained.
"That sounds possible," Hina said, sitting on the counter. "What I want to know is why it activated and how to control it."
"Hina wants to know why it activated and how to control it," I said for the others.
"Well, what amazed me was you had no injuries, not even a scratch so I would say accelerated healing, but with your eyes changing and growing fangs, I dare to say your blood heals you, but you need to regain that blood so the fangs," Recovery Girl started.
"Are for me to drink blood?" I finished. "I've heard of that being the case for some people but how would we know?"
"Drink this," she said, handing me a metal thermos.
"Is this what I think it is?"
"Drink it," she said, holding her syringe up threateningly.
"Alright," I said, opening it and putting it to my lips. I drank the liquid and found it tasted pretty good. Before I knew it the thermos was empty.
"I would say it worked," Recovery Girl said, looking at my eyes.
"Yeah," I agreed, feeling my teeth to find no fangs. "So, am I a vampire now?"
"That could work. Other than saying you have a magic quirk with no upper limit we can say it's a vampire quirk and you can use magic to do what vampires can do," Nari said. "I mean, vampires are known to be strong, be able to shift into animals, have slight control over spiders, and be able to do a lot of other things."
"Yeah, and then my explanation for being able to see Hina and being the only one who can use the sword can be that we're siblings so it works," I agreed.
"Yay, we are a spooky duo," Hina exclaimed.
"Well, now we know. So are you ready to learn to transfer magic to allow Hina to do astral projection?" Nari asked.
"Oh yeah, so I don't look insane in front of everyone," I said, grabbing the katana and standing up.
"Stephen said he would meet us in Gym Gamma," Nari said, leading the way. We walked outside of the main building heading towards the gym in question.
"Ah, about time, what took you so long?" Dr. Strange asked, standing in the middle.
"Um, we learned what my quirk is," I said. "It uses my blood to heal me but I get feral and need to drink blood. We decided to say it's a vampire magic quirk that allows me to do magic similar to what a vampire could do and I just need to unlock it through training and meditation," I said, adding how I thought would be the best explanation.
"Amazing, well let's work on some real magic," he said, sitting down cross legged. I followed his example with the katana across my legs. "Now, close your eyes and imagine there's this energy around your body, tell me what color it is."
"It's green, and red. I also see orange, blue, purple, and yellow," I said, with my eyes closed.
"Ah, so you see all six, that's good, each color has a meaning and represents something in the natural world. Green is Time, Red is Reality, Orange is Soul, Blue is Space, Purple is Power, and Yellow is Mind. Now, focus on moving that energy away from your body, but keep its form."
I tried but when they moved the shape broke apart. I tried reforming it but it just went back to where I was.
"That wasn't a bad first attempt, try moving it to an object," he suggested.
I tried keeping its shape but moving it to the sword. I then felt a slight connection to it.
"Good, you can now transfer magic, but try making a small stream to form a constant connection."
I focused on them and noticed the red and blue energies glowed as they all changed shape and formed a string-like connection. The yellow and orange energies then glowed.
"And you've done it. You are now bound to the relic. You can transfer a small amount at a time to allow Hina to astral project."
"Really?" I asked, opening my eyes.
"Yes, I don't know what else she can do with it but she should be able to do astral projection," Dr. Strange said.
"Yay, I hate being able to just hear but not be seen or touch things," Hina whined.
"You'll still be just a projection and not able to physically affect the world. But I understand the sentiment," Dr. Strange said.
"Woah," I said, wobbling as I stood up and getting light headed.
"Be careful, you're going to be running low on energy after forging a connection with a relic. It's something that most sorcerers don't just get up from. You should go rest," Dr. Strange explained.
"I like that plan, we can go home and you can get used to Kuro's demon form, maybe see if you can understand him with a magic bond?" Nari said.
"I wouldn't form a bond like that until at least tomorrow. If you want to try I'll stop by, not like I really have many other things to do," Dr. Strange said.
"I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or serious," I thought out loud.
"Honestly it's a bit of both. I don't have too much but there are a couple of things I will need to check on at some point but they can wait," he said. "Well, see you tomorrow I guess," he added, opening a portal and walking through it as it closed.
"I am still amazed at magic like that. Well, let's get going," I said, slinging the katana over my shoulder.
We walked out to the car and I got in the passenger's seat while Hina appeared in the back seat to me. The ride home was a little long and we held small meaningless conversations. We pulled up as it was getting to be around six.
"Alright, I'm hungry so why don't we get food and then I can work on some swordsmanship?" I asked.
"Sure, I know enough to get you proficient enough to not hurt yourself or someone else. Originally I was going to use one similar to Rimuru but decided not to," Nari said, getting out of the car.
"I still can't believe there's a quirk that can be passed like that," Hina said.
"I know, I was the only one who was deafened yesterday after you freaked out," I said, rubbing my ears.
"Hey, magic is more believable," she countered.
"Wanna know what, I'll give you that," I agreed.
"Alright problem kids, let's get some training in," Nari said, opening the door to an aroma of what smelled like pork mixed with beef.
"Thought you would be back soon, I made lunch so you can sit at the table," Nemuri called from the kitchen.
We all sat at the table, Hina stayed in the living room since she didn't need to eat and I wasn't allowed to have the sword at the table. Nemuri walked out with two bowls of ramen with a bit of beef and pork in each. She then went back and came out with one for herself. We got to eat and the food was amazing.
"I have a quick question about your quirk Nari," I said.
"You mean our quirk? Remember it's your quirk just as much as it's mine now," Nari said.
"I never thought of it that way," I realized. "Anyway, I know the Venom suit powers me up, but you don't get bulky ever, how is that?"
"There are two forms of the suit, or well, two that are useful," she started. "There's the bulk suit and then what I call the stealth suit. I'll show you when we start sword training so neither of us gets cut."
"Oh, this ought to be fun to watch," Nemuri said.
"I'm going to get to see the whole thing. Yay," Hina said, sarcastically.
"I'd say more than that, remember that you might still be able to use your quirk on the sword and help me fight," I said, finishing the ramen.
"Oh, yeah. Who would control it though, you or me?"
"We'll find out," I said.
"Alright, if you're done having a conversation let's head down to the sparring pit," Nari said, getting up.
"Alright, Hina let's go, we won't try astral projection right now but maybe we can work on figuring out how your quirk will affect the sword if at all," I said, picking up the sword and heading down to the basement where a dirt pit for sparing was located.
"Alright, first let's see if her quirk will work on the sword," Nari said, going and grabbing one off the wall.
I unsheathed the sword and it was enveloped by a light red flame.
"Woah, it works, let me try this," Hina said, looking at me with the sword. The flames turned from a red to a light blue. "Try touching it," she said.
I put my hand by the flame and felt nothing. "What's it supposed to do?" I asked.
"You don't feel the difference?" Nari asked, shivering.
"The flame doesn't affect you," Hina said. "That's interesting."
"Yeah, so what do the different colors you can use do?" I asked.
"Red is hot, blue is cold. The deeper or darker the hotter or colder it is. That's about all I learned about it before cursing myself to a sword," Hina admitted.
"Have you tried other colors?" I asked. "Like purple, green, orange, and colors like that?"
"I haven't, that's actually an amazing idea," Hina said.
"What is she saying?" Nari asked.
"Different colors are different temps, blue cold red hot, deeper or darker the more so it is," I summarized. "I asked if she's tried different colors and she said she hasn't and might try it."
"Hmm, let's go with green," Hina said, looking at the flame as it turned an emerald color.
"What does it do?" I asked.
"Let's find out," Hina said.
"Alright, let's start with a basic attack," Nari said, taking out a thick log with many small cuts. "With katanas you need to have the blade facing the direction of the swing or you won't cut and the blade might break. I don't know what that flame will do but don't destroy this thing," Nari said, stepping back.
"Alright," I said, taking the katana in both hands facing the log. "Hyia!" I said, slicing the log. The cut wasn't deep but emerald flames stayed on before leaping at Nari who quickly dodged causing it to land on the floor.
"This is amazing, it jumps from what is attacked by it to a different person. I wonder if in the future I can control who," Hina said.
"That strike was perfect, turn the flame off and keep at it," Nari said.
"Alright," I said, reading the sword as Hina put the flames out. I then started striking the log and I didn't know how I knew how to do this but just did what felt natural.
"Amazing, I don't think you need training with how to strike or even fight, just how to use the flames. How did you learn to fight with swords?" Nari asked.
"I haven't, could it be that the relic is giving me the ability?" I asked.
"Try using mine," she said, holding her katana out. I gave her mine and holding hers felt different.
"This feels off," I said, reading to strike. I pulled the blade out and when I went to strike the blade bounced off the log not even marking it.
"I'd say that's it. You're lucky you don't have to learn. Took me years to get to the point the relic puts you at," Nari said, handing the sword back to me.
"So, wanna try different colors of flames?" I asked Hina.
"Sure," she grinned.
"Stay away from anything important," Nari said, walking back up.
We continued working on different colors and made a list of what color had what effects. We made the following list for our parents and teachers:
Red- Hot
Blue- Cold
Green- Hot and jumps to a different target
Purple- Speeds up the sword
Black- Stuns who is hit
Yellow- Puts a slight outline around the person
We went up and after dinner I went to bed and collapsed as I was exhausted from training both in the morning and afternoon. This went on for three more days of me both training with the quirks I had, sword fighting, and channeling magic. Then the day I was slightly dreading, first day back to classes.
"Alright, you can do this, just try not to make a big deal out of it," I said to myself.
"Alright problem child, let's go," Mr. Aizawa said, leading me from the teacher's lounge to the classroom. "Look at me if they start asking too much stuff," he added quietly before opening the door and walking in. "Alright, I got someone to introduce," he said to the class before turning his gaze to me.
"Um, h-hi, I'm Izumi Kayama, but you'd know me better as Izuku Midoriya," I said, offering a small smile.
"What!?" the class exclaimed.
"Well, that could've been worse," Hina stated.
"What happened?" Negi asked.
"Um, I got hit by a quirk that changed my gender and actually unlocked additional parts of my quirk that I've been training along with a couple of other things," I said, adjusting the sword on my back.
"Um, what's with the sword?" Jirou asked.
"Well, I was cleaning my house and found it. Turns out my older sister I never knew about had a magic quirk and somehow managed to put her body and mind into the sword," I said.
"Don't lie fucking nerd," Bakugou said.
"I'm not, Hina," I said, sending some magic to the sword.
"Hi," she said, looking at the class.
"The fuck?" Bakugou asked.
"Hey Katsuki, glad to see you're still an angry pomeranian," Hina said, looking at him.
"This is my sister Hina Kayama," I said.
"Wait, Kayama, why do you have Ms. Midnight's last name?" Rose asked.
"Um, let's just say that for reasons I was adopted," I said, looking at Mr. Aizawa.
"Alright, that's enough. Go take your seat and then we can get to work on class," Mr. Aizawa said.
I went and sat down as Hina just stood in the back.
"Alright, in one week your fight will continue," Mr. Aizawa said.
"More villains?" Negi asked.
"No, the UA Sports Festival," I said.
"Exactly, you will get three chances to prove your stuff at this event over three years," Mr. Aizawa said.
"Is it a good idea to hold after an event like the USJ?" Blake asked.
"The HPSC asked us to still do it as it not only comforts the masses but it is just as important as the Olympics used to be. Honestly it's irrational but we have to. Now, onto actual class," he said, starting the lesson.
Classes went by as normal with the only awkward bit being when Nemuri came in and when teaching people would make a small comment or joke. During lunch I sat with Jirou, Hina, Tokage, Ashido, Blake, and Rose.
"So, are you going to stay as a girl?" Jirou asked.
"Yeah, I feel more comfortable in my skin if that makes sense. Like it was always supposed to be this way," I explained.
"I mean, I understand," Hina said, sitting in the empty space between Tokage and Blake.
"Of course you do," I sighed.
"What?" Rose asked.
"I can constantly see Hina and if someone holds the sword they can too. She uses mana to make herself visible," I said, sending a bit more her way.
"See," she said, looking at Rose, causing her to jump a bit.
"Pfft, and you call me a scaredy cat," Blake said, giving her girlfriend a playful push.
"Sh-shut up," Rose pouted.
"Awe, I didn't mean to scare you," Hina said.
"It's alright," Rose said, moving back to her place.
"So, do you have to eat?" Tokage asked Hina.
"No, honestly the only thing I need is sleep," Hina admitted. "It's really weird as I used to live as a normal human."
"So, how exactly did that happen?" Blake asked.
"Well, I have a magic quirk and was focusing on using it with the sword when I accidentally used too much mana and I went into the sword. Anyone who holds it can see me, but for me to be seen by all I need to use mana to do this. Izumi can see me constantly because it turns out her quirk is a magic one too and we're sisters," Hina explained.
"Wait, your quirk is a magic one?" Jirou asked me.
"Yeah, I'm calling it Iron Legacy because I kinda like the idea of my punches being as strong as metal and Legacy is because my quirk lets me use mana to do things vampires can do," I said.
"Wait, so the black sludge has to deal with vampires?" Rose asked.
"Yeah, we think it's because in a couple of books and stories vampires could control monsters and in another they can become the creatures they control. We think the blue slime is for smaller creatures and the black sludge is a creature itself. We still are trying to figure it out, but when I became a girl a second part of my quirk came to be and it isn't magic. Technically I have two quirks, the magic one and one that allows me to do a small transformation," I explained. "The thing is they both deal with vampires so it could be two aspects of the same quirk, we aren't fully sure yet."
"Wait, so do you gain fangs?" Ashido asked.
"You'll see," I said.
"Ugh, but I really want to know!" Ashido said.
"Don't worry, we have heroics next," Togake said, making me freeze.
"Um, Kayama, you good?" Jirou asked.
"Y-yeah, just realized something," I stuttered.
"Oh, I know what it is," Hina said, grinning.
"Shut up," I said.
"Izumi's scared to change with a bunch of girls in the room," Hina said.
"Stupid sisters," I pouted.
"It's alright, it's understandable," Ashido said, looking at me. "I mean, you've been male up until this point so it's going to be weird."
"Thank you Ashido," I said.
"Kayama, I've been wondering, do you have clothes?" Blake asked.
"Just call me Izumi," I said. "And, I have the basics, just nothing for myself."
"Ooo, maybe we can all go out and get you some soon, as a group?" Ashido asked.
"I'd be down," Tokage said.
"Sure," Jirou agreed.
"I don't see why my parents wouldn't let me," Rose stated.
"Sounds like a good time," Blake said, making it a full table of agreement.
"I'll have to talk to Nemuri and stuff but I don't see her saying no," I said.
"Honestly, she'll probably push for it," Hina said.
"Well, it's almost time for heroics, let's go," Tokage said, jumping up.
