Alarms blared as Sasha uttered her warning towards Ratchet through video call. The screen went dark and began to static as she soon realized that she had lost connection.
"Ratchet?" She exclaimed, confused. "Ratchet!?" The more worried call of her boyfriend's name echoed throughout the room as she played around with the controls on her communicator. "Dang this thing." She sighed, closing the communicator. She'd have to make sure Ratchet was okay, and quick. She didn't like the split second she heard of those alarms at all.
Currently in Metropolis, making sure everything is in order, Sasha raced back across town and towards her ship.
"Mayor Phyronix!" She heard someone say amongst the people she passed. "Have you heard about the-"
A holoscreen in a store window announced the current news about Dreadzone, only scaring her more. It can't be, they couldn't have taken him- not this quick! She had to get back to them at the Starship Phoenix before it was too late. She skidded onto the ground, her boots scraping the floor badly as she stopped herself before crashing into her ship. She hopped into the air as quickly as she could, turning the ship on as the window closed behind her.
"Mayor!" A citizen with purple and blue skin came by outside of her ship.
"I'm sorry!" Sasha said, putting up a hand. "I have something to take care of."
"But!" The citizen began, but it was too late. Sasha took off without hesitation, setting her coordinates to the Starship Phoenix, where she had called Ratchet from.
Sasha flew as quickly as she could back to the Phoenix. She immediately parked in the hanger, not caring how bad it looked. The cazar jumped out of her ship as quickly as possible, rushing over to the head control room. "Ratchet! Clank!" She was using all her energy, pushing herself and not stopping. She had to make sure they were okay! The floors were a mess, a real battle had gone on here. Parts of the walls were scattered on the floor, gunshot marks both on the floor, walls, and even ceiling. What really scared her were the blood marks staining a select few of tiles. She just hoped that wasn't Ratchet's. Yellowish orange fur soaked in red debated otherwise. Sasha held her breath as that caught her eye. She stomped through the blood unintentionally, leaving tracks on the floor. Finally, she reached the room. Doors swung open as she fell immediately. "Ratchet…?" She breathed, panting as she propped herself up with her arms. She looked up, to see the room empty. The chair Ratchet was sitting on had what seemed to be a gunshot through where his chest would be. A big slash through the head of the chair. The lack of blood on the chair indicated the lombax had gotten up in time. Sasha put a hand on her knee as she got up, and decided to further inspect the room.
Dreadzone… They have to be there.
Problem was, Sasha had no idea where this so-called place even was. It of course was a secret to prevent it from being shut down. You can get in, but you can't get out. But, how do you get in?
She had to think, and quickly. Sasha rushed to her office, ready to conduct some research on how she could get there. Or at least, find a way to communicate with Ratchet.
It had been a while since she had gone to her office in the Phoenix. It was just how she left it, papers scattered everywhere. Sasha was typically a neat person. But it had been left like this since their mission against Nefarious, and she didn't want to get started explaining that one. Sasha sat down at her chair and reached over for the power button. But just as she was doing so, something caught her eye. A single piece of paper, taped onto the front of the control board. She picked it up, inspecting it.
A badly drawn Ratchet with his tongue sticking out playfully was on the side of the paper, as the words 'Miss You!' were written in big letters on the left. The exclamation point with a heart for a dot. Sasha stared at the paper, it looked to be Ratchet's handwriting. A little sloppy, but she could always make out what it says. Would he write this? Sasha smiled at the paper and chuckled. She hoped with all her heart he was okay.
Gently setting it aside, she powered up the monitor.
"Don't worry, Ratchet. I'll save you."
After some online research, she managed to find leaks of how to find Dreadzone channel. After a few complications, she finally managed to play it.
"That is the eviscerator's fourth victim already this season!" An announcer exclaimed. Sasha was a bit taken aback by the dull colors which filled her screen. The place was eerie, with only the dullest grey and darkest red filling the stadium. It cut the reporters, one a green male and the other a redhead robot. "Next up we have- uh let me see here…"
Sasha continued to take in the surroundings of this place she had not yet seen before. As she was doing so, a familiar name popped into her ears.
"Ratchet? Eh- I've never heard of him!"
"What!?" Sasha sat up immediately, her chair being pushed behind her. She slammed her palms onto the controls as she felt her whole body freeze up in fear. Her worst nightmare had come true. Just as she could come to the far-fetched conclusion that it was another Ratchet, she could see the yellow lombax walk out of a grey cell.
"Well… here he is!" The announcer chuckled. "He's a little guy, ain't he?"
Sasha stared, mouth agape.
"Well don't bother getting up for drinks, folks. This guy won't last two rounds!"
The camera cut closer to Ratchet as he mouthed two words.
"We'll see." His helmet closed immediately after they were muttered, shielding his face from the audience.
"Oh, no no no!" Sasha fretted. There had to be a way to contact him! He hadn't been wearing the same armor, which had a way for her to track his location and vitals to make sure he was safe. Could his new armor perhaps have something? Or… Clank? Could she contact Clank? Al? Or would Dreadzone block off their signal?
Only one way to find out. She attempted, but to no avail. Only the sound of static answered.
"Clank, right now…" Ratchet's voice rose among the chaos of enemies, she caught sight of him shooting down a giant enemy and putting his foot down as he continued shooting at others. "I just wish I could contact Sasha."
Me too.
"I tried to track you down for years…" Sasha said, a hand on her arm. "I didn't expect to finally find you today. Not in this dimension, no less."
Ratchet stared at her, eyes in shock. His anger returned as more questions began invading his brain. "And you didn't hear about us on the news?" The lombax waved his hands up. "I tried contacting you after we escaped, and you didn't answer! And, hell, we're the easiest to find in the galaxy!" His fur bristled.
"Not in this world." Sasha stated calmly, shaking her head. "You don't exist in this world."
Ratchet paused, eyes darting down at her. "What?"
"This dimension is very different." She stated. "You have not seen anything yet.
Ratchet lowered his arms, forgetting his anger to give her a more quizzical look. "How did you end up here?"
Sasha paused, silence filled the room for a couple seconds longer than what Ratchet felt comfortable with.
"An…" She searched for the words. "experiment. Went wrong."
"Experiment?" Ratchet questioned. "What kind of experiment?" The lombax shifted uneasily beneath the covers. The fork in his plate making a noise at it slid due to his movement, reminding him that she had brought him food. The lombax had forgotten how hungry he was.
"That… could be a story for another day." Sasha finished, looking at the tray as she stood up. "I recommend you eat that before it gets even colder." She pointed towards the food. "Get your rest right after," She eyed his bandages. "you need it."
"Wait!" Ratchet protested, needing to ask more questions. And possibly a big favor. His ears lowered at the sound of her boots as she left the room, the door swinging shut right after her. The lombax pouted, looking down at his food. So, Sasha had been looking for him. He remained lost in thought as he picked up the fork, getting a view at what Sasha had brought him. Pancakes on the plate, with a generous amount of what appeared to be orange juice filled into a glass cup. Sasha had even placed a select amount of berries on the side. Ratchet smiled. She did still care about him.
He used his knife to cut up a piece of the pancakes, which were stacked on top of each other with some syrup lathered on. It tasted sweet, and delicious. And Ratchet enjoyed every bite. It wasn't long before the lombax was fast asleep. The tray was placed onto the table nearby.
The lombax yanked the cored out of Clank's head, trying her best to organize everything she had just seen inside her head. Clank shook his head as his glowing optics came back to life. The girl quickly looked away, dropping the cored. "So." She said, crossing her arms in a way to comfort herself. "Looks like you were telling the truth."
"That is what I have been saying!" Clank exclaimed.
She was stuck in thought and Clank received no response. She looked as if she was about to say something, but nothing came out. Clank wondered if she was alright. Finally, after a brief minute of silence, the mysterious girl uttered one word.
"Rivet."
"What?" Clank asked, wondering if he had heard her correctly.
"My name." She replied, holding out a hand. "It's Rivet."
Clank looked down at the purple lombax's robot hand. The bright yellow glistened in the artificial lighting. Clank hesitated before taking her hand into his own, as the two now had a proper greeting.
"It is nice to meet you, Rivet."
Rivet smiled as they shook hands, before letting go. "Well!" She exclaimed, clapping her hands together before placing them onto her hips. "How about we find your friend?"
