"give my best to the mess i've had my fill of it

and give my worst to the curse i've had my fill of it"

-the drugs, mother mother

At the edge of the woods, Jay pulled the car over and Mal told the hitchhikers to get lost.

"So what? Do we just walk back to town?" Lana asked. Evie opened the door and slid out of the passenger seat to let the soccer star out of the car. It was beyond dark and Evie rubbed her bare arms. The mayor's daughter didn't own as many leather jackets as the evil queen's daughter had on the Isle.

Jay said something sharp to Lana that Evie couldn't hear from outside, but it got the tall girl to step out of the front seat. The little one followed suit. Evie scratched her head for a name for her, real or otherwise, but she couldn't remember it at all. Carlos fumbled with his hands, trying to help her without touching her. They were both blushing red and Evie would have found it cute in other circumstances.

"You know my real name is Lonnie," the Asian teen spat to the driver before stepping back and letting Evie take her place in the car. She slammed the door shut behind Evie. Jay pulled away, leaving the two girls alone on the edge of the dark forest.

"Are you sure they'll be alright?" Evie asked.

Mal replied, "Who cares?" at the same time that Jay said, "They'll be fine."

" That was pretty confident," Ben said, earning a nasty look from the tiny faerie at his side.

" Whatever," Jay said, staring ahead at the dark road leading out of Storybrooke. Evie watched his jaw tick and wanted to ask him what he knew, but she knew him well enough to leave it alone. He'd tell them eventually.

"Right here," Mal said as they neared the town line. They stepped out of the car and made their way to the line. The dark forest stretched out all around them, vast as the sea around the Isle. And they weren't alone.

Of the three people standing at the town line, Evie recognized her friend - Evelyn's friend - Gilbert from Art Club. His blond hair was out of its ponytail for the first time ever. Beside him stood Harrison, the dreamy star kicker of Jahar's football team. And then there was-

"Unity," Mal said in a shocked whisper at the sight of her best friend. Or at least, they had been best friends back when their rivalry had been wiped from their memories. They were inseparable and they practically ran the school.

"My name is Uma and you know it," the tiny girl seethed.

And, yeah, Evie recognized them, the true them. Bert was Gil, son of Gaston. Harrison was Harry, son of Captain Hook. Unity was Uma, son of the sea witch. They'd all been stuck in that reform school together and now they were all three glaring daggers at the king-to-be standing shyly behind Mal.
