What is Mal didn't wake up after she grabbed the scepter when they were on the Isle?
(NO ONES POV)
"What happened? Why isn't she waking up?" Evie asked as she towered over Mal's unconscious body.
"I don't know," Jay said as he picked Mal up into his arms. "She knew this stick was cursed," he said as he stomped on the scepter and broke the dragons eye.
"What?" Evie and Carlos asked in shock.
Jay ignored the two. He didn't mean to spill the beans of Mal's plan, but he let it slip. He just hoped that when Mal woke up she wouldn't be pissed off at him.
"Jay! Stop!" Evie exclaimed, making the thief stop to turn around.
"What do you mean, Mal knew the scepter was cursed?" she asked.
"Not now, princess," Jay said with a scoff. "I have to get Mal back home."
He turned away from Evie and Carlos, and walked on ahead. He was more worried about his best friend than explaining to Evie that she was the one to be cursed. He kicked the door on Maleficent's castle open with a loud bang.
"MAL!" Maleficent exclaimed.
Jay walked into the throne room with Mal in his arms and Evie and Carlos following behind him.
"Where is my scepter?" Maleficent asked and she continued to file her nails.
"You're not going to worry about Mal?" Carlos asked.
Maleficent looked up from her filed nails and rolled her eyes when she saw Mal unconscious in Jay's arms.
"What am I supposed to be worried about?" she asked.
"How about the fact that she is cursed," Jay said through his teeth.
"She knew the consequences," Maleficent said with a shrug. "Not my problem, but where is my scepter?"
"You told her that she wouldn't be affected because she is your daughter," Jay exclaimed.
"I say a lot of things, you dirty little thief," Maleficent said. "Now, give me my scepter," she said with a growl.
"We don't have it," Jay said.
Maleficent froze. "What?" she asked.
"We. Don't. Have. It," Jay said as his blood started to boil.
"I gave you two one job!" Maleficent exclaimed.
"And it may have cost Mal her life," Jay snapped back. "I don't give a shit if you're mad about the scepter. I'm actually glad that you'll never be able to get off this trash hole," he said as he turned away from Maleficent.
"How dare you…" Maleficent said as she started to charge in Jay's direction.
Jay handed Mal to Carlos who was holding her with all of his strength. Jay turned to face Maleficent, who was coming at him with her fist in the air. Before Maleficent could hit Jay he grabbed her hand and twisted it, making her wince.
"You really should think about who you are fucking with before you try to hit them," he said. "You may have tortured Mal, but I'm not her. You don't scare me. You don't control me. And you will never touch or talk to Mal again," he said as he threw her fist back, pushing her to the ground. "I would feel lucky if I were you, because the next time that we talk it won't be pretty for you," he said before he turned, picked up Mal from Carlos, and walked out with Carlos and Evie following him.
They walked all the way to the hideout that Jay and Mal stayed at all of the time. He walked up the metal stairs and through the living area that only had a couch and a small table. There were spray paintings all over the walls and a bed with purple and green blankets and pillows. He walked over to the bed, and laid Mal down before he rubbed his hand over his head in frustration, while Evie paced around.
"I can't believe that she knew that the scepter was cursed and she was going to have me grab it," she said, making Jay snap his head in her direction.
"Hey!" he exclaimed, making Evie and Carlos, who was sitting on the small couch, jump. "Who grabbed the damn thing?"
"She did," Evie said.
"Right. Good," he said. "And her plan was for you to grab it, but she did. Why do you think she did that?" he asked only for Evie to shrug. "Because she changed her mind. Did you ever think of that?" he asked. "She is the one who is cursed, and you want to stand there and shake your head at her because it was supposed to be you? Why do that when you can appreciate that she sacrificed herself to save you?" he shouted, making Evie feel bad about the way she was acting.
"I'm sorry," she said shyly.
Jay shook his head as he looked back down at Mal.
"Will she wake up soon?" Carlos asked as he slowly walked over to Jay.
"I hope so."
Nine years had passed and a lot had changed. The VKs overthrew their parents to make the Isle a better place to live. Most of the villains were sent into The Isle of the Doomed, and were never heard from again. Jay, Evie, Carlos, Gil, Uma, and Harry were in charge of the Isle. They worked on trying to make the Isle a more capable place to live for the younger kids. The parents that had a change of heart were more than willing to assist in the new living conditions.
The only thing that had not changed was Mal had not woken up. In the nine years that had passed there was no sign in Mal ever waking up. People had asked Evie, Jay, and Carlos to put her body to rest, but the three never had the heart to do it. They had moved into Maleficent's castle after she was banished to The Isle of the Doomed. They moved Mal into her old room, and Evie would change, bath, and do her hair everyday. They never wanted to lose hope that she would wake up, and they would go into her room each afternoon, and tell her about their day. They watched as she grew older as they did too. She was still a vision of beauty. And one they were sad would never see the good changes they had brought to the Isle.
"Come on, Jay," Evie said as she placed her hand on his shoulder. "The king will be here soon."
Jay looked at Mal. Evie had put Mal in a long flowy lilac satin dress with spaghetti straps, and ger dragon pendants around her neck and laying on her chest. Her hair was long, full, curled, and it rested below her chest. Her lips were still plump and pink. Her cheeks were still rosey. Jay prayed everyday that his best friend would wake up. That she would call him 'street rat' again. That they would sword fight. But that day hasn't come yet. He was afraid that he lost his best friend. That he lost his sister. He stood up before taking one more look at Mal, and leaving.
"I still can't believe that King Ben is coming here," Evie said as they walked down the stairs.
"Well, after we denied his invitation to go to Auradon 8 years ago, what would you expect?"
"I know," she said.
I know you, I walked with you once upon a dream
I know you, that look in your eyes is so familiar a gleam
And I know it's true that visions are seldom all they seem
But if I know you, I know what you'll do
You'll love me at once, the way you did once upon a dream
Her voice was so angelic. Ben had been having the same dream for 10 years. One where he is on the Isle chasing the girl with the angelic voice. He never got the chance to see her face because she was so fast. The only thing he would see was her purple hair and her enchanting green eyes when it was too dark to see her face. He would chase her for what felt like hours while she sang the same song. He never gave up and when he was about to catch her he would wake up from the dream.
The 25 year old king sprang up in his bed panting. "Oh gods," he said before someone knocked on his door. "Come in."
"Ben?" Audrey said as she peeked her head into his room. "Are you up?"
"Yeah," he said as he threw on his shirt. "What did you need?"
"We're just waiting for you downstairs," she said.
"Okay, why did you come and get me?" he asked as he walked to pick his phone up.
"Because I'm trying to get back into your good graces," she said with a smile.
"We are even okay," he said. "You don't need to keep apologizing," he said as he walked into his closet and grabbed the bag he packed the other day. "You cheated on me 6 years ago with Chad, Audrey. Then karma bit you in your ass, because Chad left you and is now engaged to Jordan."
"I know," she said with a sigh. "But I know how you feel. It's horrible, and I want you to be my best friend again," she whined, making Ben laugh.
"Audrey, you were always one of my best friends," he said as he threw his bag to her. "We may have dated and stopped talking when you cheated on me, but you were still my best friend."
Audrey gave him a bright and happy smile. "I love you," she said as she hugged him. "But as a brother. You're gross now," she said, making him laugh again.
"Thanks. Love you too," he said as he walked toward his bathroom. "I'll meet you downstairs. I just have to shower, brush my teeth, and change. I'll be down in about 20 minutes."
"Okay. I'll take your bag," she said as she walked toward the door.
"Thank you," he shouted before he closed the door to the bathroom to get ready for his trip to the Isle.
"We're here, your majesty," the driver said as he stopped the limo just on the other side of the barrier.
Ben and the rest of his friends looked outside of the limo windows, and it didn't look like the Isle that Ben was dreaming about. This Isle looked nicer. Not gloomy and dirty like the one in his dreams.
"Let's go," Jordan said as she opened the door and stepped out.
They all piled out of the car and looked around the place. It was gloomy, but that was because of the barrier. The streets were cleanish, and there were people staring at them.
"King Ben?" Someone said, making Ben turn to see a young girl who was about 18 standing in front of them. "Hello, your majesty. My name is Dizzy Tremaine, and I'll be taking you to Dragon castle," she said.
"Hello," Ben said with a smile as he reached his hand out for her to shake. "These are my friends Chad Charming, Jordan Gene, Doug Dwarfson, Jane Coggs, Audrey Beau, and Lonnie Shang."
"It's very nice to meet you all," she said in excitement. "I can help with some of your bags and then we can all make our way to Dragon castle."
"I thought we were staying at Bargain castle," Chad said as he walked over to Dizzy and gave her a hug and surprised her. "Sorry, it's just really nice to meet my cousin for the first time."
"Oh, it's okay," Dizzy said in surprise. "I didn't know Ella still thought of us as family."
"She does," he said as he put his arm around her shoulder.
"Okay, and Jay, Evie, and Carlos changed the name of Bargain castle when they moved in, 6 years ago," she said, making everyone nod their heads.
Everyone went to grab their bags and when Ben grabbed his he froze when he heard a familiar voice.
I know you, I walked with you once upon a dream
"Did you hear that?" He asked as he looked all around.
"Hear what?" Doug asked.
"You didn't hear someone singing?"
"No," they all said, making him shake his head.
"You're probably tired," Lonnie said. "You didn't get that much sleep yesterday."
"Yeah," he said. "You're probably right," he said but wasn't completely convinced.
They walked through the Isle. Meeting people as they walked. Everyone was very welcoming, and not like what they had first imagined the people of the Isle to be like.
I know you, that look in your eyes is so familiar a gleam
Ben snapped his head back and forth, turning around to see where the voice was coming from. His friends behind him were looking at him like he was crazy.
"What's up?" Chad asked.
"You had to have heard it that time," he said as he continued to look frantically at his surroundings.
"Heard what?" Jordan asked.
"The girl singing!" he said in frustration.
"Dude, no one is singing," Chad said as he rested his hand on Ben's shoulder. "Are you okay?"
"I'm not crazy," Ben said.
"I'm not saying you are, but how many hours of sleep did you actually get?"
Ben shook his head. He knew he didn't go to bed until really late last night, but he had never been this sleep deprived to be hearing the singing girl from his dreams.
"Maybe 3," Ben said. "I don't know."
"Well, let's get to Dragon castle and maybe after we get acquainted you can take a nap," Chad suggested.
"Yeah," Ben said as Chad turned them back to where the others were headed.
"Right this way," Dizzy said as she walked up to the biggest castle on the Isle. "Jay, Evie, Carlos, Uma, Harry, and Gil will be waiting for you all."
"Wow," Audrey said as she looked up at the castle. "Grammy said this place would be scary, but it's not.
"And how many times has your grandmother been wrong in her life?" Jane asked as she walked up next to Audrey.
"True," Audrey said in agreement, making everyone laugh.
They walked into the castle and it was really clean. It was dark, but it was clean. The dark wood floor looks like it had been worked on. There were large carpets in each room and in the hallways. And thick curtains hanging from the windows.
"Oh, here," Dizzy said as she threw the curtains open, letting the gloomy light come through the window. "That's… a little better," she said with a little hesitation because it did not make as much as she thought it was going to make. "Anyway. Let's go," she said.
The Auradon royals followed Dizzy through the castle until they ended up at a set of thick wooden double doors. Dizzy knocked, making a loud bang as she did.
"What's the password?" someone called from the other side.
"What?!" Dizzy exclaimed.
"Nope," they said.
"Jay!" She whined.
"Not even close," they said.
"Open the door you doofus," she said, and then the doors opened revealed a tall man with long dark hair.
"The password was 'buffalo butt'," he said, making everyone chuckle before he looked at the group in front of him. "Hello, everyone. I'm Jay," he said with a small bow.
"Hi," Ben said as he held his hand out to Jay. "I'm Ben, and this is Audrey, Doug, Chad, Jordan, Lonnie, and Jane."
"Hello," he said as he looked at everyone. "Here," he said as he held his hand out behind him. "Come on in and I will introduce you all."
They all followed Jay into the room, and saw a handful of people sitting at a large table.
"Okay. Huys," Jay said, making everyone at the table turn to him. "This is King Ben," he said, gesturing to Ben. "And I only got first names so can I guess who your parents are?" he asked.
"What away," Ben said.
"Okay," he said as he scanned the Auradon royals. "Audrey," he said as he pointed to her. "Pink outfit, rose barrette, and a bird necklace. I'm going to say Aurora. Chad, with his golden locks, hands down Cinderella. Jordan, high ponytail, and a cuff with a lamp. I'm going to say Genie because you don't seem the princess type. Jane, brown hair, blue eyes, and a giant pink bow scarf. The Fairy Godmother. Doug, Glasses, green sweater, and purple bowtie. Dopey's son? And Lonnie," he said as he looked her up and down. "Mulan and Shang. No questions asked."
The Auradon royals looked at him with wide eyes.
"How'd I do?" he asked.
"Very good," Jordan said. "But there was one thing you got wrong," she said. "I'm not princess like. I'm queen like," she said as she held up her engagement ring.
"Consider me warned," Jay said with a laugh.
"Okay," Ben said. "My turn. Dizzy already gave me names, but let's see if I can match and guess your parents."
"Be my guest," Jay said.
"Jay. Snake cuff? Jafar. Evie," he said as he looked at the other people sitting at the table. "I'm going to assume Evil Queen, and a line from that tale is 'skin as white as snow, lipid as red as blood, and hair as dark as the ebony woods'. So, two of the three would suffice," he said as he looked at the girl with the ruby red lips and the black and blue hair. "Uma. I am going to assume by the shell necklace around your neck that you are Ursula's daughter," he said as he looked at the girl with the dark skin and teal hair. "Gil. Not many villains that start with a 'G', but judging by the bull horns around your neck," he said as he pointed to the dirty blonde boy. "You're the son of Gaston. Only two left," he said as he rubbed his chin. "Captain Hook," he said as he pointed to the tall man with crystal blue eyes. "Only because of the hook hanging off your belt, but for a name I am going to guess Harry because Carlos Hook doesn't sound right. And Carlos. Black roots and white tips. Curella. No questions asked."
The Isle residents looked at the king with wide eyes.
"How'd I do?" he asked.
"Very good," Uma said. "I'm impressed," she said as she stood up to shake his hand.
And I know it's true that visions are seldom all they seem
Ben looked every which way again, making everyone in the room look at him weird.
"Okay. You had to have heard that," he said.
"Heard what, Your majesty?" Evie asked as she walked over to Ben in concern.
"The singing," he said. "A girl. Singing."
"No one was singing," Carlos said as he walked next to Jay.
"He had been hearing someone singing, but we think it has to be from the lack of sleep he is getting," Doug said.
"Well, let's get you all upstairs and to your rooms," Jay said. "Then you can all rest before we have dinner."
They all agreed before following him out of the room and toward the stairs. Once they were all shown where they were going to be staying, Ben laid down on the queen sized bed that was in the room. E looked up at the ceiling before closing his eyes to try and sleep.
But if I know you, I know what you'll do
He sat up from the sound of the singing. He looked at his watch and saw that he had been asleep for 3 hours, and he was due down for dinner in 30 minutes. He opened the door to the room and followed the sound of the voice.
You'll love me at once, the way you did once upon a dream
He kept following the voice, making it grow a little louder as he wondered. He had walked past the room where he had met the other residents, and was now walking in another wing of the castle.
But if I know you, I know what you'll do
The voice was getting louder as he went further into the wing. He turned down a hallway that had multiple doors, but he felt a pull toward the purple door.
You'll love me at once
He walked down, what felt like to him, the longest hallway ever, but the voice was getting louder.
The way you did once upon a dream
He opened the door once he had gotten to it, and slowly peeked inside. He saw a light shining in the corner of the room, and next to the light was a bed with someone sleeping on it. He slowly walked in and walked up to the bed to see the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. Her hair was purple, her lips were plump and pink, her cheeks were rosey. Ben had never seen anyone more beautiful than her. Without thinking he sat down on the edge of the bed to take in her beauty, and before he knew it he started to sing the song that had been in his dreams for 10 years.
I know you, I walked with you once upon a dream
I know you, that look in your eyes is so familiar a gleam
He slowly brought his hand up to stroke her cheek. Her skin was so soft. It was very fair and made her hair stand out more.
And I know it's true that visions are seldom all they seem
But if I know you, I know what you'll do
You'll love me at once, the way you did once upon a dream
He finished singing and before he knew it he had leaned in and gently pressed his lips to hers. He pulled away and when he did the girl's eyes started to flutter. Ben watched as she opened her eyes and then he was met with the enchanting green eyes he had been dreaming about.
"I know you," she said as she looked at Ben. "Haven't we met before?" she asked as she slowly sat up to be face to face with him.
Ben smiled and stroked her cheek. "Yeah," he said. "We met once upon a dream," he said before he slowly leaned in and gave her another gentle kiss.
"Where am I?" Mal asked as she finally took in her surroundings. "What am I wearing?" she asked.
"We're at Dragon castle," Ben said.
"Dragon castle?" she asked, making Ben nod his head. "This is my room at Bargain castle."
"Bargain castle?" Ben asked. "This hasn't been Bargain castle for 6 years," he said.
"What?" she asked in disbelief. "What year is it?" she asked as she took his hand into hers.
"It's 2024," Ben said.
"It's been 9 years?" she asked.
"9 years?" Ben asked.
"Since I tried to get the scepter," she said. "It was cursed. I have been sleeping for 9 years," she said as she looked at her lap.
Everything started coming back to her. Her feeling guilty for planning to curse Evie and grabbing the scepter herself instead. She remembers hearing Jay's voice, asking her to wake up, Evie apologising for being mad at her, and Carlos thanking her for always protecting her. And then she remembers the dream. The dream of her sitting beside a crystal blue late with a honey brown haired boy. The boy sitting in front of her. She looked up at him with a small gape in her mouth before trying to stand up.
"Woah," Ben said as he helped her before she fell. "Your legs may be a little more than just wobbly."
"Thank you," she said as she looked up at him.
She tried to stand, with Ben letting her use him as support.
"So, I'm guessing you're Maleficent's daughter?" Ben asked as Mal steadied herself.
"What gave it away?" she asked as she started to take small steps with Ben.
"Well, one the dragon pendant around your neck, and two the dragon spray painted on the wall."
"Lucky guess," she said with a laugh. "Bet you can't guess my name," she said.
"Starts with an M," he said. "Mallory? Malinda? Malanie? Malissa? Malina?"
"Yes," she said.
"Which one?" he asked.
"Well, it's Mal," she said as they started to take bigger steps, and neither of them noticed that they were walking out of the room.
"That's a nice name," he said.
"Well, thank you," she said. "Assuming your parents named you something regal?"
"Why say that?"
"Because in my dream we are in Aurason," she said. "And I am assuming from the beast crest stitched into your shirt, you are former prince, but now king, Benjamin," she said.
"Lucky guess," he said, making her laugh.
They both stopped when they heard laughter coming from the dining hall. They both turned to see that they had walked out of the farthest wing, and all the way down the stairs. Mal smiled when she heard a familiar laugh. She saw that there was a table full of people, and the ones she knew had their backs to her.
"Those are my friends," Ben whispered to her. "And I bet yours are going to be so happy to see you."
Mal looked up at him, and gave him a smile before they walked into the dining hall. Everyone was still laughing, but some of the Auradon royals stopped when they saw Ben walking in with a girl.
"That's a laugh I haven't heard in 9 years," Mal said, making everyone turn to her and Ben.
The Isle residents looked at the purple haired girl in shock. They were all on the verge of tears, not knowing if this was real or not. Jay was the first to stand and slowly walk in her direction.
"Hey, street rat," she said.
Those words made Jay sprint to her and engulfed her into the biggest hug ever.
"You're awake? This is real? I'm not dreaming?" he asked, not letting go of her.
"Yeah," she said with a laugh. "I'm here."
The rest of the isle residents walked over to Mal and gave her hugs. Each one telling her how much they missed her.
"How did you…" Evie started.
Mal smiled at the blue haired princess as she peeked at Ben. "True loves kiss. Works every time," she said, making Ben smile.
"Wait," Chad said. "How? When? What?" he asked as he pointed to Mal and Ben.
"You know the singing I have been hearing?" Ben asked, making his friends nod. "It was Mal."
"But she's been asleep for nine years," Uma said. "And you two met today."
"That's not true," Mal said. "We've met before," she said, making her friends look at her weird.
"She's right," Ben said as he walked back over to Mal. "We met once upon a dream."
