Haruhi woke up to the sound of her phone ringing loudly. A generic ringtone ringing in her ears. She sat up on the uncomfortable waiting room couch where she had spent the last several hours. She answered, still not fully conscious just barely registering where she was. "Hello?" "Where are you? You didn't come home we've been worried sick!" Her foster mothers loud screechy voice was on the other end and Haurhi pulled the phone away from her ear in an attempt to save her hearing. "Oh gosh I'm so sorry, I'm still at the hospital." Haruhi yawned again as her host mother continued to yell. Haruhi rolled her eyes, letting her have her tirade. "I will come home later after I know that Tamkai is going to be okay." Haruhi hung up even though she was still being shouted at and she didn't care. She looked at the clock in the waiting room, 7:30 a.m. The surgery must be over by now. She ran to the front desk to check.
There was an older woman at the front desk now. She gave Haruhi a warm welcoming smile, a big change from the night before. "Hello dear what can I do for you?" "I'm looking for my boyfriend. He had an emergency surgery last night. Could could you help me find him?" SHe yawned still worn out. "What's his name dear?" The woman was still smiling as she pushed up her rather gaudy rhinestone reading glasses. "Tamaki, Tamaki Souh." The woman typed quickly not even asking how it was spelled. "Ahh yes, he has been moved out of recovery into a private room on the sixth floor." The woman beamed and Haruhi nodded. "He must be something the sixth floor is where all our celebrities stay. You'll need this clarence badge to even get up there." She opened a drawer on her desk and pulled out a badge on a black lanyard. "Just wear this and you won't have any issues. It's room 644. Normally I wouldn't allow you up there but since I know this kid isn't famous and you knew his name I'm allowing it." She winked Haruhi liked her already. "Thank you Miss?" "Barbra." The woman finished. "Now go go." She shooed Haruhi off and Haruhi headed over towards the elevators. He'd made it out of surgery and it sounded like he was going to be okay. A great sense of relief washed over her as she pressed the up button and the elevator doors opened.
Haruhi stood in front of the door to room 644 taking a few steady deep breathes. For some reason she was nervous. She didn't understand why. She'd been alone with Tamaki loads of times but this somehow felt different. Maybe it was the fact that he'd almost died the night before or that this was a hospital. She wasn't sure. She just knew that her heart was pounding and she felt a little bit sick. She took a few steading deep breaths before she opened the door. The room was huge and nothing like what she had ever seen in a hospital before. First of all unlike back home there was just one bed in the room, it also had a couch and its own flatscreen tv and a private bathroom. It almost looked like a hotel room instead of a hospital room. The one difference was the bed with bars on the sides and the beeping machines.
Tamaki was awake and tried to bolt up when Haruhi walked in but let out a loud moan when he sat up instead. "Tamaki what are you doing lay back down you just had surgery." Haruhi ran over and pushed him back down and he complied. 'Haruhi? What are you doing here?" He was smiling at her but he looked slightly confused. "And where's here?" He himself had just woken up and looked around the hospital room. The last thing he remembered was being at work and checking out a little old lady buying cat litter and carrying it to her car for her. Now he was in a room that smelled like bleach and was in a lot of pain and Haruhi was pushing him to lay down. "You mean you don't remember?" Haruhi looked at him worried as he took her hand. "No I don't, what happened?" He managed that little half smile that used to make all the girls back home go crazy, Haruhi just sighed. She supposed she'd tell him what she knew which admittedly wasn't much.
"You're saying I got shot at work last night?" Haruhi nodded, sitting in a hard plastic chair next to the bed not letting go of his hand. "Yeah at least that's what I heard from Kyoa. He's the one who called me so he might know more about what happened." Haruhi yawned. A few hours sleep on a waiting room couch weren't cutting it. Tamaki yawned, still drowsy from all the drugs. "And you stayed here all night? You do love me!" Tamaki still had a goofy grin on his face. He wanted to kiss her so badly but it hurt to move. "Don't rub it in or I'll leave." Haruhi was smiling to and Tamaki could tell she didn't mean it. Right now she was just glad that he was okay. After finishing her explanation she kissed his temple then his cheek. Tamaki pouted a little. "Come on Haruhi one real kiss?" He gave her the puppy dog eyes and Haruhi sighed. "I don't want to hurt you. You said you were still in a lot of pain.'' She was suddenly feeling that strange nervousness again that she'd felt at the door.
"Come on please?" He sat up a little taller wincing as he did so. Haruhi suddenly felt better. If he was strong enough to beg he'd for sure heal. She crossed her arms. "You're in the hospital hurt, just wait until a doctor looks you over okay?" She sounded tired and she hadn't said no much to Tamaki's delight. "Okay okay, but you look exhausted maybe you should lay on the couch over there?" He didn't want her to leave but he didn't want her to make herself sick either and that couch did look more comfortable then the one in the waiting room. "Maybe I should go home and sleep. I'm sure Karen is losing her mind at the fact I'm still here. I thought when I was here I wouldn't have to deal with overbearing parents." Haruhi sighed looking at Tamaki. "No I don't want you to go. I want you to stay right here, I feel so much better already knowing you're nearby." He gave her another puppy dog stare and she of course relented. "Alright, I'll stay but only because I want to." Tamaki beamed as she went and laid on the plush blue couch in the corner of the room.
Haruhi was awakened a few hours later by Kyoya. "What are you doing here?" She sat up rubbing her eyes noticing the twins were behind him messing around with Tamaki by throwing his cellphone back and forth over his bed. "The doctor says Tamaki's free to go I came to pick him up. I thought you'd want to leave too?" He pushed up his glasses sounding bored and like being there was a huge inconvenience.
Haruhi looked out the window, noticing that the sky was high in the sky. It must be well past noon. She sat up stretching and walked over to the twins, swiping Tamaki's phone from them. "Grow up both of you." "When did you become such a killjoy." "Now come on Hikaru, that's not fair Haruhi has never been that much fun." The twins chuckled looking at her as she rolled her eyes. "We're just waiting for the nurse to come with a wheelchair." Tamaki smiled brightly at Haruhi. Haruhi handed Tamaki his phone. "That's great, I know Kyoa is here to take you home but what are twins doing here?" She was confused by their presence. Kyoa sighed. "They threatened to destroy my car if I didn't bring them along. What happened is all over the papers and the news so everyone at school knows." The twins smiled. Haruhi still looked exhausted even after her nap. "Do we really have to wait for a nurse?" "As Tamaki can barely stand and he charmed his way out of here I'd say we should wait." Kyoa sighed and Tamaki pouted. "Stop talking about me like I'm not here. All I said was that I could hire an in-home nurse if I needed to, so they could give the bed to someone who really needed it. I was trying to be kind." He gave them all puppy dog eyes.
No one said anything else. They all just sat in an awkward silence. A young pretty blonde girl came in. "Alright are you ready to get out of here?" The nurse giggled. "It looks like you were having a party are you sure you want to go home?" Tamaki nodded for once in his life wishing he was actually going home instead of the penthouse apartment at one of his families hotels. At least he'd have Kyoa for company.
